My LEGO vignettes based on Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace take you on the journey of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi from Naboo via Tatooine and Coruscant back to Naboo, where they must face the sinister Sith Darth Maul. In 2024, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace celebrated its 25th anniversary, which inspired me to recreate the chronologically first film of the space saga in the form of small vignettes on a 14 x 14 stud base. My MOC series was created (with a few breaks) over the course of the past eighteen months. 01 - "Master, Destroyers!" Star Wars Episode I begins with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi being sent for negotiations aboard the Trade Federation blockade ship above the planet Naboo. There, however, they get into an ambush and must fight their way free. While battle droids barely pose a threat to the Jedi, Droidekas are a much greater challenge. 02 – Rescuing Queen Amidala After the two Jedi escape to Naboo and reach the capital city of Theed by a detour, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi free Queen Amidala, her advisor Sio Bibble, her bodyguards, and her handmaidens from the droid army. Together they manage to escape Naboo aboard Amidala's royal starship. 03 – "This is getting out of hand! Now there are two of them!" Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation must report to his mysterious client that Queen Amidala escaped with the help of the two Jedi. Darth Sidious subsequently sends his apprentice, Darth Maul, to track down the group. The entire operation is now developing in a direction that does not please the Viceroy at all. 04 – "Are you an angel?" When breaking through the blockade around Naboo, Queen Amidala's starship suffers damage to its hyperdrive, preventing a quick escape to the galactic capital Coruscant. After setting course for the remote desert planet Tatooine, the Jedi and Amidala's handmaiden Padmé Naberrie visit a junkyard to get spare parts for their ship. In Watto's workshop, they meet a boy named Anakin Skywalker, who soon shows a special connection to the Force. 05 – Boonta Eve Republic credits are worthless on Tatooine, so the Jedi must find another way to buy the parts needed for their hyperdrive. Young Anakin offers his help and promises to win the necessary money at the big podrace, the Boonta Eve Classic. But his strongest competitor Sebulba doesn't think much of fairness. 06 – Jedi Council With their hyperdrive repaired, the group heads to Coruscant, where Qui-Gon Jinn presents young Anakin to the Jedi Council. But the Council is initially skeptical and thoroughly tests the boy. 07 – "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!" In political Coruscant, bureaucratic processes paralyze the Senate's ability to make a quick decision regarding the Trade Federation blockade. This prompts Queen Amidala to call for a vote of no confidence against the sitting Chancellor Valorum. Surprisingly, Naboo's Senator, Sheev Palpatine, is one of the candidates for his succession. 08 – Gungan Patrol Queen Amidala returns to Naboo, where the Gungans have been hiding in the swamps from the Trade Federation. At a meeting with Boss Nass, the leader of the Gungans, Padmé Naberrie reveals herself as the true Queen and wins his trust. The Naboo and the Gungans join forces to liberate their planet together. While the security forces return to Theed with the Queen to find Nute Gunray, the Gungans prepare for battle on the great grass plain. Their plan is to lure the Trade Federation's droid army out of the capital to facilitate the recapture of the palace. 09 – Recapturing the Palace While the Gungans confront the Trade Federation's droid army, Padmé Amidala and her security forces infiltrate the royal palace of Theed to capture Viceroy Nute Gunray. 10 – Duel of the Fates In the palace hangar, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi encounter the mysterious Sith who had already attacked the Jedi on Tatooine. Their lightsaber duel leads them into Theed's power generator, which contains numerous platforms, plasma rays, and security gates. 11 – Obi-Wan Defeats Darth Maul In the lightsaber duel between the Jedi and the Sith, Darth Maul severely wounds Qui-Gon Jinn with his lightsaber before throwing Obi-Wan Kenobi into a shaft. However, the Padawan just manages to hold on to a small ventilation opening. Using the Force, Obi-Wan jumps back up, draws his master's lightsaber to himself, and strikes Darth Maul right through the middle of his body, causing him to fall down the shaft in two halves. 12 – "Always two there are" After the Battle of Naboo, a ceremony for the deceased Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn takes place in Theed. In addition to numerous Jedi, representatives of Naboo and the Republic are also present. In the background, Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu discuss the implications of recent events and the significance of a Sith's appearance: "Always two there are. No more, no less. A master and an apprentice." "But which was destroyed? The master or the apprentice?" That brings us to the end of my MOC series for Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. One of the starting points for choosing the scenes was, among other things, the selection of minifigures. All scenes are based on minifigures that I either already owned or that were easy to obtain. So a vignette with the junk dealer Watto quickly fell out of planning, as the minifigure wasn't really worth the asking price on the secondary market to me. For orientation, I frequently used supplementary material from books alongside film clips, where vehicles and buildings are often shown from a different perspective. Building the total of thirteen models was a lot of fun, and as my first long-term, multi-part building project, I was able to gain many new experiences while building the vignettes.

Hello! Would like to present my second MOC after my dark ages. (Sorry, i build like a 12 year old, twenty years ago.) (You can check out my first MOC here!) I joined Nocturnus a few days ago, so i decided to (try) build something not too big, because i don't have that much bricks, and it is easier to start small i think. So i had a little scene in mind, then it slowly changed and transformed into this final form. I made an order on BL, and built it. Sorry, i do not own a professional camera, so i just used my phone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Saga of Gutkeled the Tangled I. Swamp Rescue: As dusk settled over the dangerous lands of Nocturnus, Gutkeled the Tangled was gingerly heading East, passing through one of the deadly, and smelly swamps to stay hidden from the happenings of the civil war going on his beloved homeland. He was just getting across a dodgy bridge, when he heard the murky water splashing, and a woman's screech as well! First he thought it is just a crow with its raucous voice complaining about something, somewhere in the dense vegetation... Wasn't good for his ears, i tell you that. Anyway, it was really a woman. Or something like that. His mama Leofflæd taught him well, to be a good and honorable man, and to be helpful, especially to ladies, so he decided to lend a hand to the stranger. Even if she seemed like a vampire, or should i say swampire. - Good evening Ma'am! Don't you worry, i will pull you out in no time! - shouted Gutkeled, whilst he cut down a long, strong vine with his sword from a nearby tree. No answer came, just panic, screams, and the swamp's greenish water stirred up even more. The young wanderer cautiously stepped on the edge of the bridge, and held the vine in front of the woman. - Grab it, and don't let go! - said Gutkeled in haste. He wanted this to be over as quick as possible, because above them on top of the tree, in its crown, two swamp spooks nested. Some people and other life forms called them bog bogeys, and those creatures didn't like anyone near their home! Especially noisy ones. Usually the female laid a crystal thingy on top of a tree, while the male caught and killed some lesser creatures, and took their souls to trap it in the crystal. A few nights later the next generation of swamp spooks were born from it. They were always born during, or after full moon, because the crystal needed to catch the moon's rays to transform the souls into those nasty little spirits. Although they were only preying on smaller beings, they could mess up Gutkeled with an attack, if they wanted to. They literally just fly through someone's body, or head, causing headaches, nausea, dizziness for long hours, or in some cases, days. - Almost have you! - Gutkeled managed to pull the woman closer to the bridge, then lay on his stomach, and reached down with his hand to grab her. Soon both of them were sitting on the bridge. Safe and sound. - Are you all right, Ma'am? - asked the man, looking at the soaked and wet, and needless to say malodorous bloodsucker. - Handsome, ye call me ma'am one more time, an' ah wull have ye for dinner! - voiced the exhausted woman, as she observed her savior. - Be careful, vampy! Your sharp tongue might cut your throat one day... - stood up Gutkeled, and put his left hand on his swords hilt. The woman immediately get on her feet too. - Please, before we get carried away, let me introduce maself! Cailleach Bheur, at yer service! Ye assistance is much appreciated! - the change of her tone was comforting. - You are welcome, Cally! I am Gutkeled. Nice to meet you, i hope! What were you doing out here in the middle of nowhere alone? If you don't mind me asking! - Ah've heard some avalonian adventurers roaming these swamps. They are usually delicious. I almost had them, but lost ma footing on this cursed piece of poor woodwork. Dinna have to tell ye, i am not fond of watter and stuff. - I assure you, i taste nothing like avalonians, that's for sure. But i have some dried meat and even some red wine, if you are still hungry. - lied Gutkeled, as he was half avalonian (- half amazing) after his mother. - No need to worry darlin'! I won't bite, for now. But ah take the meat and wine! Let's find a good place, an' get a fire gaun! This scene shines a little light on what happened to Leia's golden bikini. For those of you who thought she just threw it awayafter she escaped Jabba's sailbarge, I can assure you that wasn't the case. Hi everyone, I have build several vignettes with the minifigs from polybags (giveaways). I have done something similar with Star Wars minifigures. The first one is Hank Pym, who has turned into a giant. The second one is the Winter Soldier inside a Hydra facility. The third vignette is with Rocket Raccoon with Groot, The fourth vignette is with Rhodey as Iron Patriot. The Hulk is on a rampage and is still angry. Tony Stark in his Silver Centurion suit. Greetings! Thanks for stopping by! I would like to present my first varlyrian vignette. It is for the Varlyrio Guild Challenge 1A- Family Affairs- Who's in charge. Sorry, i do not have many bricks, nor skills. I tried to use all the advice you gave me on my other mocs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mer- ry meet! I am Ein. Take a note on that, because you will hear it in the future, i guarantee! I am a blewe elf. Yes, i am not blue. I live in the blue. Hope it is not too complicated for you. Some others would know my kind as finvolk, or marmennill, or something like that. First of all, excuse my incidental grammatical errors. Your common tongue, is not my strongest skill. Usually, i prefer to pick up just elvish languages. Hope you will understand mer. Let's get started, shall we? Mer father was born in the mernificent polis of Tethys. He swam in the waters of Kalypsō, what sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to do so. Came to this world looong after that dreadful catastrophe. You know which one i am talking about, right? The one that happened in the place you probably know, or heard of as Varlyrio. Mer home is the spectacular underwater city of Thalassa. Would be a fool to tell you the exact location. Keep it a secret for now. About mer birth... What do you think? Are we from eggs or born alive? Like fish, or like humans? I will let you figure it out by yourself, if you can. Good luck with that dryskin! Haha! So, where was i before i've got tidetracked? Oh, yes! Mer father is called Ægir, Protector of the Blewe. Mer mother's name is Rán. Queen of the Blewe. I know, i know. Those titles are not very creative... Just for the record. They are not blue neither! I also have nine sisters- imagine that, but you don't want mer to list their names here. Would be long and boring believe mer, and i don't want you to know their names. You probably not even worthy to lay your beady little dust dweller eyes on mer beauteous sisters anyway. By the way, they have terrible personalities, and i am sure all of them are much older than you. Not to mertion nobody in their right mind would want to be their boyfriends. Not to mertion... husband. Enough of those margygurs! Let's talk about mer, merself, and i. Grew up in the eerie waters of Lorelei Loch. Had an adventurous childhood. The Children of Ceto always stirring up the deep waters yonder. There weren't many boring moments i can tell you that. Fortunately these days, we have less and less problems with them. Guess what? Even befriended a few. Who could have foretell that. I will speak to you about them another time, i promise. If you behave yourself well. Be nice, you hear mer! It is no secret, we are not a fan of your kind. Maybe one day, this will change, but in the mertime i will tell you about mer useless titles. Yes, i have those, like mer parents have. Let's see. I am the Lochagos of the Warriors of Vortex order. Lord of Lorelei Loch. Guardian of Thalassa. Have a few more, but those have no interest to you. Oh, i have one more, which is a "cool one"! Krakenslayer! If you were wondering about the scar around mer left eye. While my dad is somewhere in the great waters of Ōkeanós on some diplomatic mission to contact other finvolk, i am trying to build connections with your kind. That is why i revealed myself to you. Do you want to know more? EinIntro by Erhard Maas, on Flickr - Many- many tides ago, there was Erda. The dust dwellers call it Varlyrio, or was it Valrylio, or Varilyo? Well, it doesn't really matter! Erda it is named in our ancient tongue. Two lands, one with an inland sea, what was known as Kalypsō. That is where our ancestors were born, in the beautiful city of Tethys. The water was crystal clean, and warm. Full of life in it, and in its vicinity. The drylanders didn't bother us much. Our neighbours, and distant relatives the Kolgari lived close by. Sometimes dwarves came to trade goods, and news in return for the fruits and rare treasures of the deep. Other than that no two legged people dared to walk those lands, and swim or sail those waters. Life was good, because the water was good! Then out of the blue, cataclysm hit! Erda quaked, cracked, and shattered, deadly gases leaked from the deepest parts of the underworld into the waters, and up in the air. Soon, Tethys was destroyed. As the ground opened, most of Kalypsō drained. Ran down into a cavern that might wasn't even there before. Many of our volk swam for the last time that day, crashed on the rocks by deadly currents, or swallowed by hazardous maelstroms, engulfed by the abyss. But others survived and just let the flow to take care of them. The water takes, but it always brings. So, they found themselves in this huge new cave, in a subterranean lake fed by underground rivers, and hot springs regularly. Other survivors of the catastrophe arrived too! Even the Kolgari couldn't continue their lives on the surface. They moved into this great cavern, we call Horthol. Those were hard times on them, and on our volk. On everybody, who found refuge there. Magic was used on a daily basis to help establish a new life. The Kolgari built an amazing place, what is known in the legends as Sunken City. We built our new home, the magnificent city of Thalassa, on the bottom of the lake we know as Lorelei Loch. We were lucky. Very lucky to survive. Water is vital for all of the beings. With the new place, came new discoveries. Ones that changed the fate of our volk forever. Found waterways which connected our new home with the vast water Ōkeanós, so some of our brave ancestors departed. Ōkeanós... The final frontier. Those were the longest voyages of our volk. Its continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life, and new civilizations, to boldly swim, where none one has swam before. To find new adventures, to meet never seen distant relatives. We also met new creatures, for example the Children of Ceto emerged from the depths of Lorelei Loch. Some of them were friendly, others are not so much. Water can be wild. Recent times, the surface strollers constantly grew in numbers. Not just in Erda. Don't have much respect towards the land, towards anything! They spill, and drink the waters, even fighting over it! Kill, murder for it! Sometimes they contaminate the wells, springs, rivers, and oceans! Litter the whole world! All that matters to them, is what can they take, what can they destroy! Almost always at war, those dryskins! Want power more, and more. Want everything! It is never enough! They know nothing! Nothing yet... Our volk are everywhere. We are watching. Where water is, there are we. Water is life, so we are! You cannot crush water, so you cannot crush us. We were here before you, and will be after you. I was looking for an older photo when I came across the Coveted Crypt, which was done for a theme month on Eurobricks some time ago. This gave me the idea to do one for Halloween and change my avatar - just for October.

Hello everyone! What kind of ideas pop into your head when you hear of a "cmf 8x8 vignette contest"? Mind you, I eventually thought of Micromotor, 9V, Fiber Optics and a matching figure capable of delivering the goods (hint: it did). Here's what came out of that idea... Just a dance club, folks! Nothing to see here, carry on... It is fairly tall for a vig, but it certainly works give the space restrictions. The dim lights were a pain to film in my setting, although I tried my best. The show must go on, no excuses allowed! And no regrets for that matter. Welcome the Catwoman from the Batman Movie franchise! Double the fun!! Some technical shots. The old 9V system is invaluable for how smoothly it integrates into Lego System. Fitting the fiber optics element into 8x8 was one hell of a task. At times I felt like a car thief on a job... The floor, oh, the floor! Don't even ask. Some bits and pieces. The pole absolutely had to be chrome - a choice afterwards regretted... I dare you to find a sound, functional and purist solution of proper length if you don't believe me. A rubber wheel was the only option of attaching the piece as far as my knowledge of pieces goes. ...And the heat goes on... Now that's a club I wouldn't at all mind visiting... An entry for the LEGO Life logo contest on Rebrick. Under each ‘stud’ on the brick, there is an 8×8 minifig scale vignette, in the same theme as the microscale build above it. I tried to represent three of the core themes of LEGO: City, Space, and Castle. This was a very enjoyable build, as I got to dabble in several themes, but it still all came together fairly quickly and easily. Lots more pictures on Brickbuilt Thanks for looking, C&C welcome

Hi everyone, here is a MOC/Vignette based on this Star Wars Bad Lip Reading: So I got the crazy idea of making that scene in LEGO Digital Designer. Here is the result: Heart shapes are in there to represent the "Bushes of Love", and here is a picture of the thing which has a "chicken head with duck feet… and a woman's face too". This is just a vignette I made for fun, but C&C is still welcome as always! VaderFan2187

Deep in the bowels of a Star Tours spaceport; G2-9T works on repairing a broken R5 series astromech, constantly distracted by passing spacefaring tourists... This is a small vignette I made out of spare parts the other day. Sector 2 from the original Star Tours ride has remained one of my favorite moments of Star Wars. Growing up it was a ton of fun entering the ride in Disneyland and walking through the dimly lit and dirty Sector 2 seeing dozens of droids sitting in disrepair and abused states while two Goose Droids slowly worked on repairs. While the current Star Tours ride is technically superior and far more repeatable of a ride; I have always felt the trim and polished Sector 2 with the two droids handling TSA duties feels less Star Wars-y than the original madcap world of ill repaired droids the original presented. For reference to those of you who weren't familiar with the scene: The vignette is the result of combining spare pieces from my Lego parts bin together. This is probably the third time I have attempted to recreate the feel of Sector 2 in Lego. Admittedly it seems hard to create a pile of random junk in Lego while maintaining focus on the core aspects of a scene! I admit its not perfect, but its a fun litte vignette to display in my Lego collection. C3P0 on the observation platform. I also redesigned my Goose Droid using a plethora of new parts which weren't available when I first built the figure many years ago. I know the mix of new and old gray in the fig might be an eyesore for some of you, but for the dingy droids used in the actual attraction, it seems fitting . I made these for the Rebrick contest for the 10th anniversary of modular buildings. The task was an interior vignette up to 16x16 studs in size which would thematically fit in any of the modular buildings. I tried to refrain as much as possible from using many ready-made items and accessories. Hotel Lobby for the Cafe Corner Baby room for Pet Shop (the building, not the store, lol)

Halloween is round the corner. Seasonal sets are always widely received, regardless of whether you celebrate it or not. This is the first seasonal vignette released in Singapore. As such, queues were long and stocks always ran out within 2 hours of restocking. Vignettes seem to be more popular than the brick built animal seasonal sets, like the 40090 Halloween Bat. As a young AFOL, I couldn't bring myself to lug LEGO boxes to college, even for a short 1 hour. I enjoyed the various role play scenes on the back of the box. The lack of a theme logo like "Limited edition 2015" may suggest it may make a comeback next year. Purely my own speculation. After all, sets like Birthday Table Decoration had an extremely short shelf life, but on S@H, it says it is in production. Last year's halloween bat made a comeback this year, in my local stores. Front: Back: Random page of instructions: Here are the sealed bags. Eyes lit up upon earth green plates.. haven't had those in my collection since Winter Village Post Office.. Everything laid out. This is quite therapeutic. Some parts of interest My first 65 2 x 1 x 2 slope. Surprise find was the dark orange brick with stud on side. Didn't think they'll include that colour in a halloween theme set.. The olive green stem is solid, for those who didn't know. Had always thought they were rubbery. One of those nice elements you can't help but wish they included more. Finished build. The roof looks smoother than expected, but the tip is a bit off. The centre should have had another 1 x 2 plate before putting the double slope. But what's LEGO for, if you don't customise things. The transparent brick and plates were used nicely. This is a good time I seen it being used, other than stained glass windows. *cough* Pet Shop *cough* I love the miniature pumpkins. Always nice to have plain minifig heads. Small tree build is beautiful. 4 x 3 leaves simple and elegantly placed. If they had the bigger leaves instead, it would look out of proportion. Spare parts. They gave extra bones. Pleasant surprise. After all, this is my first skeleton since 1997.. "Trick or treat" Old and new skeleton..from 1997 Witch's Magic Manor. I like the new torso mould. Now the arms are posable. The old hands were great for play though. Used to connect 2 arms together and treat him like a gorilla, since they swing freely. Now I just take pictures. Size comparison The height seems to be standardised for vignettes. Around 8 studs tall. Personal thoughts: At first I had no intention of getting the halloween or thanksgiving sets. Only wanted the 2 christmas ones. However after looking through the parts list.. price per part was pretty good, and I needed something small to practice for Reviewer's Academy. Previous submission hasn't been graded, so I posted this here. I love the colour combination of purple and black as the primary colours. Much better than orange and black, which tends to be overused around this season. As a town builder, this is a great set for inspiration on how to beautify your door fronts. Summary Review: Playability: 7/10 (Lots of knock knock jokes) Design: 7/10 (Roof is a little off, but transparent colours used to great effect) Parts: 8/10 (They were great, but none exclusive, and no printed tiles) Minifigures: 8/10 (Detailed back printing, no dual face print, but nice hat) Price: 8/10 (Great price per part, not the best. But the best always comes in big sets..) Overall: 8/10 (A solid affordable set)

My 10th and last entry to the Colossal Castle Contest (small miscellaneous category). This was mainly a small fun build to mess around with new designs. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out, and that I was able to get every element actually attached, except the 3 logs which rest securely in the firewood bin. First installment in the story. After his first successful meeting with the Jarl of Balkr, Glorfindel had high hopes that he would meet with similar success when visiting other jarls and lords on the Nocturnus border. Dedan had set off for another clansman village, while Glorfindel's next trip took him to the medium sized town of Firoir. A single guard stood watch at the gate, or rather sat watch, as he was resting on a stool. "What's your business here?" He questioned, not bothering to stand. "I need to speak with Lord Tuinis," Glorfindel replied, taking in the somewhat disheveled uniform of the soldier. "Just straight on down the main road to his manor then, can't miss it." "Thank you, and good day," said Glorfindel, to which the guard merely grunted. Continuing on his way, Glorfindel saw that the guard was right and that it would be almost impossible to miss the large ornate manor. After an equally brief conversation with the steward, Glorfindel found himself face-to-face with Lord Tuinis in a lavish wood paneled room. "And what brings the esteemed Sir Glorfindel to the humble town of Firoir?" Asked Tuinis with a sneer. "Urgent orders from Elon Chorian no doubt, more men and supplies needed to defend our beloved capitol city?" Somewhat taken aback by the lord's belittling manner, Glorfindel tried to be diplomatic in his response: "It's always an honor to be received into any town of Mitgardia, and while the capitol is secure, I do bring word from Chorian that the villages, towns, and cities along the Nocturnus border should be fortified against a possible attack from the darklands. Tuinis jeered, "Of course! It's easy enough for him to order new fortifications and more soldiers to be trained, but we lords always pay the price for his petty concerns. Not a year ago, I was ordered to send troops and reserves of goods to the North for defense against the Algus threat. Yet this supposed threat to our existence was never even sighted by my scouts!" "Surely you don't mean to question the validity of the Algus attack?" Glorfindel asked incredulously. "Northern Mitgardia paid a dear price to keep the Algus from advancing to your doorstep! And if your scouts really never picked up on that threat, that only betrays their incompetence!" "You dare insult a lord of Mitgardia to his face at his own hearth?" spat Tuinis, "I know your kind, merely a lackey of Valholl, constantly sticking your nose into your better's business, and getting rewarded for it!" For a moment, Glorfindel could only consider the satisfaction a swift blow to the insolent face before him would provide, then with a great effort he controlled himself and turned from the room. Tuinis aimed one final insult at the retreating figure "That's right, crawl back to your fancy city and learn not to meddle. You have no authority here, boy." Another view of the build. INTRODUCTION Ever since January 2015, the mini seasonal sets started to appear in a new format that would appeal to a wider audience. They represent a piece of life in the appropriate season, built on a tiny 8x8 vignette. Usually these sets include some interesting parts or rare colors and are jam-packed with cool accessories. This added detail makes them especially attractive to "afol's", "moc" builders and collectors while the older style sets seemed to mostly rely on novelty value and targeted children and the common buyer. So far, they've proven extremely popular. Painting Easter Eggs comes after the Valentines set, and will be followed by Halloween and Thanksgiving accordingly. TECHNICAL: Set Name: Painting Easter Eggs Set Number: 40121 Number of Pieces: 153 Theme: Seasonal Availability: LEGO Exclusive / retail Year Released: 2015 Price: $ 9.99 / € 9.99 Stickers: 0 New elements: 0 Exclusive minifigures: 0 Brickset entry Bricklink Inventory The set consists of 153 pieces, two minifigures and one animal. Most of the pieces are very small so it's advised to build in a controlled environment, (leave your cat in the other room) The box is the smallest available LEGO box after polybags. There is usually a short and simple story printed on the back, in this case the kid dropped one of the eggs on the floor while his mom observes unamused. PARTS SELECTION: The obvious stand out is the white chicken, but there's also a number of cool accessories included; you get a paint brush (plus one extra), a painters palette, a black pot, one green bottle, some cookie tiles and the common mug in red. These vignettes have a habit of including 1x2 bricks in rare and interesting colors, you get 7 masonry 1x2's in dark red and two in dark tan. The 1x1 transparent brick is also infrequent and you get 3 of them, 1 of which is hidden in the build. I believe the bricks representing white eggs were previously seen in Bionicle used for eyeballs, but are pretty cool as eggs, although in Europe our eggs are closer to tan than white. Did I mention the awesome chicken? MINIFIGURES: Two mini figures are included, a child and what is presumably his mother, or sister or whatever you like. We have seen her torso before in many creator and city sets. I am personally not a fan of the blue blouse, but the kid's torso print makes up for it. The cosmonaut t-shirt is fairly uncommon and popular. Both characters have double faces which adds to interactive play features. BUILD: Building is straightforward, The instructions start with the tiny additional plate of grass with the chicken's nest, I guess the chicken isn't allowed in the kitchen. The kitchen is built entirely on a 8x8 base and has a neat tiled floor in a checkered pattern which gives it a great finished look. The appliances and sink are in very lively colors and the dark red masonry forms the outside wall. The cookies are in the oven, the egg is boiling, almost ready for Easter. The espresso machine, transparent oven door and lively green colors give the kitchen a modern-day look, but still very cosy and cute. Almost done, The top shelf is up, the clock is ticking we need to start painting those eggs. There are four different colors of 1x1 round bricks included which represent paint cans. I think it would have been cool to have one or two of those egg pieces in a new color to represent an already painted egg, but the white's are more versatile if you want to use them to stock up a grocery or something, so I am not complaining. And the kitchen is done. I tried to copy the setting that was depicted on the box with the kid smashing one egg on the floor. That smashed egg is a nice piece to use on a plate too. The back view is not lacking in detail, The great color combination and texture of the outside facade could easily work as is, even in it's flat form. The light bright orange window curtains are a nice touch... uh oh, what's that kid up to? Given the size of the set, you get a lot of pieces left over, this is off course due to a lot of small 1x1 pieces. Nice to get an extra paintbrush and cookie. CONCLUSION: I consider myself fairly critical, but there is simply nothing to critique about this set. LEGO always put special effort into staying neutral in regards to race and religion, so depicting Easter may be a slight bend in those principles, but that could be said of almost any seasonal set. It's amazing how much value can be fitted into a tiny box, this set excels at "playability", "collectability" and parts selection, something that is generally hard not to compromise at this scale. I can picture anyone buying this, from an office clerk as his desk ornament to a little kid who wants to interact with the characters. It just has a hugely wide appeal which is probably why they sell out so quickly. If you collected some of the older Creator houses that came with sparse or no interior furnishings, and you are short on "moc-ing" ideas, these seasonal sets could serve as greatly detailed packs to fill the void. Overall Design: 10/10 - There is nothing I can think of, that could have been designed better, nothing falls off nor is clumsy to handle. Parts selection: 10/10 - This set must have skipped the optimization process as no element is spared or recycled. + you get a chicken! Play features: 7/10 - While the set provides sufficient scene for play and plenty accessories, there are no specially added play functions out of the obvious. Challenging build: 6/10 - The build is simple and easy, but far from boring or repetitive. Minifigures: 6/10 - Minifigures are not what makes this set, but from all the generic prints we could get, one of them has the best of the bunch. Price: n/a - I am sorry, but i don't like to comment on price as this varies between countries and individual expectations, but compared to sets of similar size and piece count, sans licence, I consider it good value. Overall: 9/1
