  1. @Shiva thanks! And yes, I do have one or more. Main posted modified today, 12/8/23: coaches added to first post, all-new pictures uploaded and text restructured.
  2. I don't understand what you mean? It's a 6 wide train, and is as long as most of my other trains... EDIT: It's actually 28+ studs per car, so it's pretty long.
  3. Thanks @Shiva. I have now finished it, just need to find time to take more photos...
  4. Back when Emerald Night came out, people were all upset it DIDN'T have special molded side rods. Now that we have them, people don't want them? I wouldn't blame LEGO if they give up making steamers entirely, as this is ridiculous!
  5. @legoturtle Like it or not, Dreamzzz is an Action and Adventure theme and is current. Logically then, Adventure themes made by LEGO are not dead or dying. Dreamzzz very much resonates with the core theme of LEGO, which is imagination. (Why else would their one-time slogan have been "Just Imagine..." if this was not the case?) And, just because you think a theme is viable, doesn't mean it will sell to their market, which is still mostly children. Example: In the book "The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks", it is clearly stated they've been playtesting a great many steampunk themes / sets for over thirty years, and kids don't seem to understand it - which means it isn't produced for sale. As for your underwater idea, if there was money in it being an independent theme, Lego would sell it. As it is, City has a handle on underwater themes. Also, core theme? Town is the founding core, followed by trains, space, castle, and pirates with Technic thrown in someplace. Action / Adventure themes with clear cut stories and bad guys /good guys - like Adventurers - come in much, MUCH later. (I don't count the Aquazone themes as Action / Adventure, as they were originally SeaTron from space and were pitched in the mid-late '80's before being spun off.) Nowadays, of those themes only Town / Trains (merged together around 2006), and Technic are still going strong. Ninjago and Friends are the newcomers, with both having themed subthemes that take the spot of the old themes like Pharaohs Quest, Atlantis, or Exo-Force. (Ninjago having the lions share of these) Pirates, Castle, Space and Trains just can't support themselves on their own anymore - as evidenced by the cross-theme SPACE branding for 2024.
  6. Construction finally began today on the Pioneer Zephyr after nearly a month of it sitting around waiting. Only one car out of four finished, but all undercarriages / wheels were built as well. I was going to build another car, but my neck was starting to get a kink in it so I stopped for today. The rest should be done in the next couple days. Thoughts?
  7. Great MOC! Love the cryogenic Walt in the background. Mickey, however, will be haunting my nightmares.
  8. I couldn't help myself - it's not my fault. Let me start over: I made a streamlined New York Central 4-6-4 Hudson digitally a few days ago, and suddenly had the intense, uncontrollable urge to make matching passenger cars for it. So, I took the 20 year old Santa Fe Super Chief cars and designed some NYC passenger cars from the bones of the older sets. The original train was MUCH too long for my needs, and it didn't have regular, ordinary coaches so I modified it a lot. I kind of got carried away, but it should work in real life. (I hope) So, like I said: I couldn't help myself - it's not my fault... I blame my insane need for every engine to have a train to go with it.
  9. Personally, I would love a 2003-era Lord Sam Sinister update. Maybe recolor the new top hat from Disney 100 CMF and give it to him. I've often thought about putting the one worn by Dr. Facilier on my revamped Sinister, but haven't bit the bullet yet... I don't like the purple feather, (unsure about the skull and bones too) and I don't erase prints!
  10. It's also on the designer's Bricklist on Brickset.
  11. 2015 bluecoats, and I voted other as a stand in for dark blue, like on that one Revolutionary Soldier CMF. (Dark green for Hessians would also be cool.)
  12. Simply put @karrit, the postal service is all backed up in a major way. For example: there was a mercury spill (it was on my local news channel) back on October 26th in St. Louis, Missouri's main distribution / sorting hub which also spread to a satellite facility. A LOT of packages go through both those places, which created a ripple effect in other places country-wide. Apparently (from what three different mail workers told me on different occasions), they just got through (as of a month after the spill) the backlog of things that had to be scattered all over the country when that happened. The Christmas rush has also started around that time, so they have piles and piles of packages that are WAY behind. My local mailman actually were telling me they split the route I'm on in half because one truck can't hold all the extra mail they need to deliver daily. It took me nearly a month to get a package from a Indiana BL seller to me in St Louis. (shipped October 21, received November 20th.) and this was just with a small Bricklink order! ...Long story short, it will take longer this year, especially the close we get to Christmas. Besides, as I found out, if it gets lost, you have to wait 30 business days from last tracking notice and the SHIPPER has to start lost item proceedings. You, as the receiver of said items, can't do anything, per USPS rules.
  13. Thanks for the kind words @SD100! Yeah, I know it should have six tender axles, but adding in a sliding middle axle to the two tender bogies would make it cost more, and I'm also really trying to cut back on unneeded complexity of my MOC's.
  14. don't feel bad @Toastie, I didn't spot it either.
  15. Thanks @Shiva! Progress notes: I just realized Anthony Sava's second version of the Dreyfuss Hudson from 2016 has the same number as mine. I swear it was a total coincidence, as I have only a few numbers left in my stash and that was the first one I picked out of the bag. I guess I will up the number to 5448 to keep it from seeming like I'm copying him too much. Also, I've found 172 parts for this model since yesterday, leaving 560 out of the 732 I started with left to go.
  16. @zephyr1934 I have gone nearly cross-eyed trying to spot the difference between your two pictures. What are the changes you made?
  17. I almost had a heart attack from the title alone.
  18. NOTE: As some of you might be able to guess, the loco was inspired by pictures of @SavaTheAggie's original streamlined Hudson locomotive from 2007... no instructions were used to build this engine. See the inspiration here on Flickr. So you think I'm building a streamlined passenger train too, right? After all, it's a streamlined locomotive... ..WRONG! Yes, I know the streamlined Hudson's never pulled freight in the real world. HOWEVER: The Iron Giant animated film has a New York Central streamlined Hudson pulling a coal train that is badly wrecked (accidentally) by the robot. As I have the Iron Giant model already built, this was a no-brainer to make. Along with the engine and tender, there are going to be four coal hoppers, as you will see. Front view of the loco. This Dreyfuss-style streamlined 4-6-4 steam loco is numbered 5448 and is mostly modeled after a real, long-scrapped New York Central engine. The tender really should say the railroad's full name of New York Central instead of its initials, but I don't want to shell out the money for all those 1 x 1 tiles, so I'm using fewer 2x2 tiles instead to spell out NYC, as it's much cheaper that way! The cab of the loco is actually unable to fit a mini figure inside. (It's a brick too short.) These four heavily modified copies of the 1991 set 4536. (Blue Hopper Car) They lack the drop--bottom dumping feature of the set, as I made it much simpler (and cheaper!) by removing the playability from the cars. As you can see, I also had to shorten the train by one car from the original five down to four. This was because I ran out of room in the box to store them with some other freight cars. Now, if the train gets wrecked by a big metal man, I obviously need to add him to the post too! This is not my MOC: I bought the instructions for the model from B3 customs back in 2021. I found them on my hard drive again in late July 2023 and decided to build him in LDD. Then, in mid-August, I built him in real life... and promptly forgot to take photos of the completed model for over four months until November of last year. (whoops!) The rear of the robot. The original models' rotating hip joints (as used in the Build Better Bricks instructions) were removed from this version of the model because it was not strong enough. If the parts were worn even slightly, then the robot would not stand up under his own weight, breaking at the hip. Thoughts, comments or questions welcome! Updates: 1/30/24 real world photos added of everything, including Iron Giant!
  19. I'm calling it now - the Flying Ford Anglia is the best speed champions set of 2024. EDIT: Hedwig gives me the creeps, to be totally honest.
  20. I can't find the post I thought I read about PU going away in... must've dreamt it. Sorry for the confusion! As for the apps part, Lego apps never stick around. They are removed from the app stores and basically stop working.
  21. @JohnsLegos - 60052 is Power Functions, while 60197 is Powered UP. They are different systems with different plugs which are not compatible with each other. You have as battery box and motor with PU, and battery box, motor, and infrared sensor with PF. PU can be controlled with your phone via Bluetooth or a remote, whereas PF needs a remote and can't do it with your phone since it doesn't run with Bluetooth. (side note: Since Powered UP will be gone soon from what I've read, so don't use the app as Lego apps are notorious for being outmoded when the systems are replaced.) I would personally do Powered UP since it doesn't need a separate sensor block, but I would buy the remote instead of using my phone. You will need to slightly modify 60052. I hope this answers your question.
  22. Thanks! I haven't seen Lightyear either, but I did see a documentary about it on Disney+. The director Angus MacLane (who has sadly since been fired because of the film's failure in theaters) designed all the ships in LEGO before putting them in the film, and made the XL-15's windscreen trans-yellow at one point in the film so LEGO would have to make the part in that color. He seems like the biggest LEGO space-fan since the original set designers in '78, and a real awesome guy... I just wish we could have gotten more of his ships from the film!
  23. The Sound of Music (watched it on Disney+) Why? Because I was bored and had three hours to kill. Sadly, I'll have a few of the songs stuck in my head for some ungodly amount of time, which is why I don't usually watch musicals. (The Beatles Yellow Submarine is the exception to that rule!)
  24. I just added Katy caboose and Linus - the brave locomotive to the main post, which has been completely redone! Any and all thoughts welcome!
