  1. The build is great..... the video even better. I love Ken Blocks stuff..... and your rendition is terrific. The multiple camera angles....the shots of the drift close to edges..... wonderful stuff. How many takes did that require anyways?? Thanks for sharing.
  2. Not only would an adder not add much power due to loss of torque......but the added weight would also add to the inefficiency, not to mention you would have to add the extra battery box.
  3. This would be really cool to see in some nature-themed or victorian age diorama or something as the waterfall. Think of it....a real waterfall all made out of lego....in a real moc.
  4. Im afraid there are things to be purist about and others that are best to not be purist about. LPEs are one of those. The switches are just too rigid, cylinders holes too narrow, and tubing weak and insufficient. I have Alex's engine and also one I made non-modified. There really is a night and day difference. non-modified engines will keep their torque, just not the speed. I should make a video demonstration of them side-by-side......
  5. You may now take your base .... But seriously, this set really turned out to be a disappointment. Lol....I am the infamous one who pointed out 42056 price tag was not really that bad, and usually try to advocate for Lego set's behalf in that there is something inherently wrong with children sets being judged by adults. But even I can't find much to be happy about with this set. And that says a lot!!
  6. Thxs.....but I got it separated....I just needed a tool to do it. I am a long term user of tools for lego. Created a topic here: And a little video of one of my favorite tools here (That I have not posted yet.) My other favorite tool is my surgical calipers (pictured and discussed in thread above)
  7. This is not a moc, it's a small modification of a real set.
  8. It is closed. Can't poke through. Which is a shame b/c I needed it to for my build.
  9. Okay.... so i am using the Porsche rims for a new project, and the rounded tiles with "RS" printed on them are nearly impossible to get off. The stud is embedded in the rim and nearly impossible to get access to the time. Given, I don't have any fingernails, but I could not do it without a tool
  10. Am I missing something here? I mean, these are not the same models.... but we just had the EXACT same model posted earlier this week by a different user: And the music in the youtube videos is even the same. I mean, the models are different, several similarities but definitely different. How is this possible? Was there some collaboration on the projects? Don't get me wrong, I think both are great but the probabilities for both exact same models (which we never even see anyways) in the same week with the same music in the videos is just too weird.....
  11. I have always loved your builds.....lights on this really are cherry on top though. Having put lights on a lot of my own models, it can actually be challenging. Lights under the belly of the trailer are just a delight.
  12. I love that you offer some stats here on how much time building, rendering, takes. I think the time aspect of our hobby is so underappreciated sometimes.
  13. I bought the first book almost immediately when it came out. Funny, my guy friends came over one night for beer and football, saw my lego room, and quickly the teasing begun. But they saw Sariel's book and quickly the ribbing turned to "that's so cool" "awesome" and then playing with my collection. I need to get the second, if only for my collection
  14. @jrx- good video/discovery. I have never seriously considered the sbrick. But the other popular thread we have going and this discovery has me thinking....
  15. Not sure a pullback will give you the power you need. But, there are other methods that use no pneumatic elements, no motors, etc where lego can still go pretty fast.
  16. IMO your best models so far. Both the dump truck andriver the Volvo. Great application of the Claas tires. The trailer in the video needs work.....very flimsy.....but I don't think that was your area of focus.
  17. And I just added another for hybrid Ultimately I think u get more functions with hybrid. Remote control can only control so much with the limitations of Lego. A hybrid approach allows one to rc lots of stuff, but manual can add detail functions, like opening doors, bonnets, etc that often aren't even bothered to be motorized.
  18. Kinda pathetic that I am just getting around to view this. Terrific review. Wonderful Saturday morning read. Love that you added the poll with tire combinations.
  19. Replacing clutch gear is easy. Don't disassemble the whole build. 5 minute fix, tops:
  20. Absolutely terrific. Right down to every detail. I mean, even the lights in the face appear correct, with the red ones shining just a tad less than the yellow.......
  21. Good point. I don't own a regulated power source, so just a regular pf battery pack was used but I actually think it better that way, as results are more generalizable that way. When any of us build a moc, we don't use regulated sources, just good ol' battery packs. Therefore, results more applicable to what we actually experience when building a moc.
  22. Not entirely true. As demonstrated in the video, the forces on hard-coupling motors is much greater than when in regular use, or even the forces from regular stopping models. Stopping models does not constitute whole rotations, let alone 40 in a minute. Not to mention hard-coupling motors causes resistance on top of the resistance from regular use (like those forces you mentioned, weight of vehicle etc.) which can degrade performance over time. I admit, as mentioned in the video though, the effects are likely very small, but not non-existent. These are essentially the same conclusions arrived at by others. But I do think the main point still stands; when using two motors hard-coupled together, I would check first to see how similar they are in RPM. I know in my project, I will be using the XL motors that were 100% in agreement one with another. In cases such as that, I can be reassured there is essentially 0 problem because they run at exactly the same speed.
