Liebherr LR 11000
nerdsforprez replied to Dawid_Szmandra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really can't compare the two...... as they are made from different materials entirely. One high grade steel, the other, plastic. What can be said is what I mentioned earlier in this post..... others have built some good looking cranes with really little to no lifting capacity. they really only support their own weight. Others still have built something that is also quite functional, and can lift quite a bit, but the looks are primitive at best. IMO, this is the first crane that truly combines both..... Having built several large cranes myself I understand the complexities of building such a crane (although mine have never even been in the ball-park of Dawid's). Just the reeving of the string through the hook block must have taken forever..... -

Check out Dawid's youtube page. Although this is a recent amazing build, he has a long history of just outstanding Lego crane builds. Videos of the 1750 and 1070 are there....... -

So agree with everything mentioned thus far. I will point something else out..... not only does it look fantastic... but it is incredibly functional as well. Others have mentioned, on other posts, that for cranes this big it is wonderful that they can just support their own weigh, being made out of Lego and all. Well...... this does a lot more than support its own weight. Not to mention how smooth the functions are. Rotating a crane that weighs this much, with the backlash normally accompanied with Lego, is very hard to do. But this wonder does it so smoothly. I think we could probably take this thing apart... and have a variety of the components, such as the slewing ring, booms, winches, etc. be HoF submissions in and of themselves.... they are so well built.... -
Wonderful job here...... Very satisfying video to watch. This is something I will be following with a lot of interest....

Very excited to see a video. I have followed several or your creations in the past with great enthusiasm. Excited to see this thing in action!

Wonderful submission - as always. Your builds are always top-quality but the photos and videos, editing, and presentation keeps improving at such a fast pace. I agree with you that looks-wise, there are areas for improvement - that is only said to provide objectivity and balance to the comments. Overall, the build is excellent. I especially love how the engine runs at a different speed than what the car is running at. I think that has always been a gripe of mine. Why add a fake engine when the speed at which it runs is obviously fake as well.....i.e. running at like 100 RPMs when the car is cruising along somewhere..... -
I think this is a really good question, even if it has been discussed, in similar form, before. I also really liked the former discussion's spectrum conceptualization, and I think it is important to consider when musing on the topic. I am not sure there is a "right" or "wrong" answer here.... rather, the best we can do is articulate where we fall on that spectrum and why. But one error that I am seeing is the way things are worded. I think, the spectrum idea, as well as other comments posted, pits looks versus function. As if having one precluded the other. I am not sure that is the case. I think, if anything, lately we have seen some outstanding MOCs in terms of both looks AND function. I also think that having an emphasis on one does not make the other irrelevant or less meaningful. One may point to 42056 to highlight an example of looks versus function.... .but that model was a product of TLG under their self-imposed constraints. Take those constraints away, and some of the recent MOCs we have seen lately, at least in my opinion, are increasing in both looks and function. We have tons of "looks versus functioning" conversations, I hope this thread doesn't disintegrate into that. Really what I think the topic is hinting at is simply the "liking" of a paneled, covering look versus a more transparent look. I actually like the paneled look, and don't think it distracts or takes away from the function of a model, or the appeal of the functions at all. In fact, IMO, it increases my interest in the model. It helps compartmentalize it. First, by seeing its visual appeal, then, when panels, etc. are removed, to be stunned that there are surprises underneath and appreciate its function. When people build in modular form it also helps with this compartmentalization. I could even insert the cheesy quip "its like an onion..... there are many different layers"..... Or.... even make an even cheesier connection to like a romantic interest..... first, the visual appeal and connection to the person, then the emotional and intellectual connection/appeal.......but, I won't go there....

42078 - Mack Anthem
nerdsforprez replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not sure what you mean here. In the video @kbalage lifted 600g. That is what I was referring to. I do not think most people will be even attempting or surpassing that. Most than that would seem excessive, given that other Lego models whose primary function is to lift stuff (8288, 42042, 42009) didn't lift that much without modifications or some difficulty . Upshot: I think the lifting capability on this this model is above average. In fact, even though @kbalage showed that the model can lift 600 grams not sure many will want to actually do that and drive the truck around. Remember the weak connection pointed out by some of the trailer to the truck....I am sure this would bend even more with heavy load in the container...... -

Wonderful 2nd video. Lifting 600 grams was a big surprise, even if it was hard to do. Other models, even well-loved ones put out by TLG, like 42042 and 8288 could not lift this much without some modification. I think lifting 600 grams should appease most buyers...... -
Very clever builds and brilliant colors. Many of these ships could be seen gillions of miles away based on their colors alone! thanks for sharing.....

Wonderful build, as always. Thank you for sharing. I am curious about your experience with using lifelites. I have used them in the past alot on my projects, including lighting kits for the Arocs and the Porsche. I found them super nimble and wonderful as far as lighting goes. they look great. However, I also found them very fragile and once you had plugged on light into a unit it was nearly impossible to get it back out. How did you find them?

Hmmm, then probably maybe move it to the Technic forum? This location doesn't seem to fit either and it is likely to garner to attention locked away here...... -
The original builder is member of EB, but doesn't post here often. Says he is having difficulty with logging in so I am posting this here for him. Needless to say, wonderful and accurate build. I only wish there were a video. The amount of functions fit into a model at this scale is terrific, and boy, does it look great!. All five axles are with suspension. Four stage boom where the height better resembles the real thing. Check out the link for full details, and I have posted some pictures as well. http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/443667

Its early. ?Hopefully you get more. Right now i think you are only in the "view" stage in terms of customers. Not likely to get much donations at this stage. But, when people actually decide to move to the "using" stage, i hope you get more donations. I know if i decided to those this modification i would donate.

With discussions of instruction cost, making money, etc popping up here and there the fact that this is offered for free isn't just fantastic or great, it truly reflects what a great contributor to the community you are Sariel. Wonderful function to a set that will likely become very popular. We will leave the placement of the thread to the moderators, but I know this would also be a smashing hit in the SW community thread a well.

I am kinda saddened this has not got more attention. I think it actually has quite a bit of potential. Being mostly a Technic builder myself, although there are not many functions, the connections are fairly complex. Couple of questions..... why all the different colors? It is not that the colors are a bad combo., there just does not seem to be much fluidity to them. Also, if it is finished what happened to the arms, hands, and feet? I really like the torso, but it looks like you got bored and quit after the torso, shoulders, and legs.....

Wow..... just a wonderful build. I also love the back shot, pretty much no gaps and the pieces are in pristine condition.... makes the ship look real. I would have never guessed the Duplo piece.....

+1 to this and pretty much all other comments. Summary: Those that have bought the product are happy with the performance, but not with the reliability nor the app. So, to have more performance but no news about increasing the reliability nor the app addresses issues that pretty much no customer had (performance) while not addressing concerns that nearly all customers had (reliability and the app). Doesn't seem to follow the first rule of business...... identify the demand and create a product that will fill it.
