BrickBob Studpants Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) Not sure where the fears about next year are coming from. We already know about the Ewok Village and the Bounty Hunter Chase! Both of them are absolute wins, no? Sure, I expect most of you wouldn’t be happy if they were the only non-SB Skywalker Saga sets next year, but that doesn’t sound overly likely to me. I think 5 Starfighter sets, 4-5 Skywalker Saga sets, the gimmick sets we know about, 2 M&G spoiler sets, 3-4 SB sets, 1-2 MSL sets, 2-3 Ahsoka S2 sets, and our glorious TIE Avenger would be a pretty plausible selection. Not every, but yes. Dedicated action figure brands tend to produce better action figures than lego, because lego isn't an action figure manufacturer. It's a construction toy manufacturer, so it's minis correspondingly are primarily focused on fitting that construction system rather than being particularly affordable, articulated, or accurate. It's not a diss on the minifigure. It's a different item with a different focus. I don't think it's something I could put into percentages- obviously it would vary for each set- but again I have nothing against minifigures, my point is rather that minifigures serve the sets, not the other way around. I mean, there's even figures I would buy mid-range sets specifically for, it's just that if, say, there was a $50 chariot assault tank with Mara Jade, I wouldn't say it's a $50 Mara Jade action figure, because, well it's not. Me choosing to buy it for a small component of the set doesn't mean that that's what it actually is. Maul finale was excellent, though heartbreaking. If lego doesn't produce sets for it, they're fools. I agree I was never saying Lego minifigures are action figures but they are figures. I don't think anyone collecting minifigs wants action figures, if they did then they'd just buy action figures... Minifigs have a unique charm which people like. If LSW made a CMF line would you still say there are better options? It sucks how it's the only animated show that didn't get any sets (tales series doesn't really count). We should've got an imperial gunship, TK troopers, Mauls crew, devon/daki, lawson, that walker maul took down, imperial speeder. Quote

Also in that same breath Lego shift to the adult market will look at 50 years and maybe target the AFOL market even more and have more sets specifically aimed and marketed as 50th anniversary purely but it’s just more buildable figures etc. we already know we are getting movie posters. how many is unknown I think but I guess they’ll start off with the OT. Then my other thought is that they might just treat it as a 50th year of ANH and do a whole wave focused on that but then my thoughts go to well what would they actually release for ANH? ATM we’ve got a cantina, landspeeder, falcon, x wing, vaders tie, all locked behind smart sets if Lego are serious about smart sets I can’t imagine them releasing normal sets of the above all the time the smart sets are on the shelves. So then you look wider and think well maybe they’ll do a Sandcrawler but then again there will be the Mando one on shelves so that’s unlikely. No ISD as one is retiring this year. Realistically the only thing they might do from ANH that hasn’t got another set anywhere else is a TIE or Y wing. Just makes me feel like next year won’t be as special as you all want it to he. We’ve also got a film and Asoka series 2 coming which again combined with the current rumoured sets reduces the chances of sets you think we might get even more. Even going down the classic OT set route there won’t be much I think it’ll genuinely be the ewok village and the bespin dual. Everything seems like it’s either locked behind smart sets or has already been released from a different media or sitting on the shelf’s already or recently retired. my god I’m very pessimistic apologies for the long lost post especially at 5am UK time. I just can’t see 2027 being the year you are all thinking it’ll be. What play sets we do get I hope Lego give us figures we desperately need (Dookus, Greivous, any form of battle droid that isn’t a B1/2/X) mean the list of figures needed can be debated until the cows come home but at least with the bounty hunter pursuit that’s one figure ticked off the list maybe Lego won’t give us proper anniversary sets like you all hope and pray for but maybe they go down the HP route this year an give us force ghost figures with sets, the HP ghosts look so good these days I’m shocked that SW hasn’t had any. Okay, I want to take the opportunity and clarify my expectations for next year. First of all, it's impossible to please everyone. There will always be people who won't get what they wanted and are left disappointed. No way around that. You may just try to satisfy as many people as possible. As everybody grew up in a different era of Star Wars, I still think it's a sensible decision to deliver a little bit of everything. And if the leaked list is any indication, at least as far as the PT/OT is concerned, this seems to be the case. Like you said, given the currently available Smart Play sets sorta functions as a Greatest Hits OT Collection, I find it highly unlikely that the 50th anniversary will be based solely on ANH. Even though it would make sense in a vacuum to base it on the one big thing that started it all, in the grand scheme of things it does not. I can be optimistic with my hopes and dreams all I want. It would be foolish and no fun not to. But at the end of the day I want to be realistic as well. Next year won't be Lego pulling out all the stops and completely go out of their way to give only what fans want to become reality. And frankly, that's not what I expect to happen. That's why I also don't think new content getting represented is problematic at all. I just want 2027 to be much more versatile in terms of the overall timeline compared to this year. Better balance in both sub-themes and price points. Make more sets that everybody can afford. That's all I'm looking for. As nice as it would or could be, it doesn't need to be an all-timer. I would gladly settle for less. Just as long as you sprinkle in the occasional highlight set like the Bounty Hunter Pursuit Remake. 10 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: Hey, no problem. Simple mistake. Yup- it's just a big droid. They are more muted, but the issue is lego has no "extremely muted green" or "extremely muted maroon". The closest colors in lego's aresenal to the ones on that droid are dark green and maroon. (And in either case, would a big grey droid have been better? I feel like people complain about all SW sets being grey on a regular basis.) Was it worth it? I'm increasingly tempted by those mandos, and those nice dark red curved slopes, but $23 is just such a hefty price for a battle pack with that little content. Yeah, I know, it's just those simple mistakes can get to me. You feel like something is off, but you can't quite pinpoint it in the moment, so you may end up writing it anyway. And when somebody points it out it becomes that much more obvious. ^~^ It's funny, I actually got reminded of the Bounty Hunter Droids from Fallen Order/Survivor and never associated those with Mechs. It truly has to be just the Boba Fett colour scheme that screwed with my head. Yep, that's what I wanted to tell. Partially creative freedom, partially due to the somewhat limited brick colours available. Not that I necessarily complained about it in the first place. I'm usually glad when there can be much more than grey, black and white at play here. Just thought it was funny it resembles the Boba Fett Mech design that much. Especially considering it's more than triple the price. Considering the asking price of 13 bucks, I would be hard pressed to say that it wasn't worth it for any Battle Pack out there. I mean, for reasons we already thoroughly discussed, this is obviously not the most exciting new BP in the world. But everything else is good. I enjoy both of the new Maul Mandos. And the Speeder I'd actually consider to be among the better BP builds. However, as you can imagine, for full price it's another story entirely. Then it would need to be something super special and sought after to get it day one like in the good old days. But for the proper discount, albeit less exciting than it used to be, sure thing. Mandalorianknight Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) 9 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: That’s the joke As for the M&G and Starfighter discussion: M&G is in a special position since it’s the first SW movie in almost 7 years, the first movie in the streaming era, and a spin-off / sequel to a show, which is also a first. Starfighter will be a more “normal” movie in comparison and likely not get more than the standard 5-7 sets. It also won’t have a specific built-in fan base (beyond the larger SW fan base I mean), unless you count Ryan Gosling fans The show sets this year weren’t really necessary, but they’re all among the best of the year I’d say As much as I want MSL sets, I wouldn’t want to sacrifice any of the Mando sets for them. Fingers crossed for next year! I will assume you meant "pour one out for the continued good health of Spoiler Lady Kast , who is very much alive, and the starwars.com article saying they originally had a more graphic death says so because they decided to keep them alive after all, for sure." Exactly. There's no reason to expect Starfighter will get even half of TMAG's content. I would sacrifice the Cobb set in a heartbeat (sorry, @BrickPrick, maybe we could have gotten a Cad Bane microfighter instead), the AT-RT set, the X-wing, probably the Babu ship, and ABSOLUTELY the grogus. I'd be more conflicted on the Lambda, but we could always just swap the figs out. We can hold onto the sandcrawler, crest, and $10 speeder. 3 hours ago, Meaf said: Agreed on the Starfighter speculation, I think we'll get a decently big wave for it but there's zero shot it's going to monopolize the year like Mando did for 2026. I mean, we already know that it pretty much certainly won't since we have a pretty decent list of leaked sets to work off of. I just hope it's more like the 2010s movie waves where it doesn't eat into the other waves of the year as much (not expecting this tbh just hoping). Same here. Maybe with the anniversary it will. 2 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: Not sure where the fears about next year are coming from. We already know about the Ewok Village and the Bounty Hunter Chase! The second part of your post I think answers the first- though I agree there's no way 2027 doesn't end up being at least better than this year. There's just so much to cover, and we're assuming that things like smart brick, clone battle packs, etc stay limited, not to mention all the 18+ stuff. Even in the list you give, if we assume there's 2 clone trooper sets (the bare minimum, it seems), we're already down to the only other Skywalker Saga/50th celebration sets being the village and Zam's speeder, plus potentially one other set. I personally am hoping the 50th gives us at least a half-wave of ANH stuff and some good sets for the other films beyond that. 1 hour ago, Darth_Bane13 said: I was never saying Lego minifigures are action figures but they are figures. Kaijumeister Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s too difficult to cover the breadth of Star Wars content next year as part of the overall 50th anniversary celebration. An approach of one key set per film or piece of major content (assuming the core 6 films for now but I wouldn’t be against coverage of the ST either) that balances demand and desirability seems quite reasonable to me, at least as a starting point. Plus from the list we’ve seen so far, that roughly looks like Lego’s approach too. For example, the Bounty Hunter Pursuit, Bespin Duel (assuming this isn’t a Christmas set), and Ewok Village are all sets that most of us can agree we’ve been wanting for a while, and if each is the sole representation of their respective film next year, I personally think that’s fine. I think 2027 has the potential to be a decent year provided Lego don’t go overboard wasting set slots on things people simply aren’t expressing an interest in. Heck, even if there are 16 or so playscale sets for 2027, there is a lot of ground you can cover with that. I’d love if Lego could take a page out of Hasbro and Jazwares’ book by keeping a finger on the pulse of what has been demand for a while but hasn’t yet been realised in Lego form, and not just for the clone bros with vocal chords made of beskar. A Fondor Haulcraft and Stinger Mantis for example would tick off two major vehicles people have practically been begging for for years at this point. There are plenty of easy wins they can achieve in playscale. Edited May 5 by Kaijumeister Quote

Oh, yeah, I just meant a clone wars era CAD with his starfighter or something. Though if we needed TBOBF specifically they could have given him one of those pyke wardroids- they aren't piloted, but I doubt anyone would actually care. The boba mech was actually, I want to say, $18 back in the day, though I think it's clear lego tried to overprice them and that's why they're now only $15 (which is a lot more reasonable). The hutt droid is a little bigger and a lot thicker/fatter/chonkier/whatever adjective you like, which does add a lot to the piece count and size. I would say it's at least twice the value of a normal mech. Throw in the door (which is deceptively sizable for a size build- with Embo and his dog and I think $50 is a reasonable price in 2026 dollars, though obviously in an ideal world it would be $45 or even $40. I'll at least give them points for it being something that could hypothetically have existed, though certainly not on that planet, so definitely the worst of the undersized vehicles. Honestly that set should never have existed in the first place- I have no idea why the 332nd are pushed so hard. $13 probably, $16 is fairly standard and not a price I'd mind. It's objectively strange and bad, but from the outside perspective it is really funny to me that the shuttle, and the shuttle specifically, just has wild, nonsensical exchange rates whereas everything else for the waves are normal. 5 hours ago, brimbolet said: So stupid not to have bought the cheap version from 2021... this much I'm certainly not willing to pay especially since it's M&G and not OT. It’s as toyetic as live action can get! Those ancient droids would be excellent buildable characters whilst still maintaining minifigure compatibility. I’m very curious to see what the world of Starfighter will look like. Cool new ships? Interesting character designs? I hope it feels a little fresher than simply iterating on OT / ST designs. No I completely understand you. Getting ‘definitive’ sets for ANH would really be awesome, models that go above the usual mild iteration of previously made sets that this theme tends to do too much of. As long as they allocate a generous number of playscale slots next year that prevent the brutal triaging of good set ideas, they can throw in as many buildables and 18+ as they want. Quote

I think Shawn Levy has done films with imaginative premises, but I think his "look" is not exciting in the movies that I have seen. Maybe Free Guy and Real Steel look good, I haven't seen them. Real Steel ads all looked like (brown, ugly) PS3 games to me back in the day. I'm perhaps an outlier here, but Deadpool & Wolverine is visually bland in my opinion. Real Steel, Deadpool, and Night at the Museum are imaginative (adapted from [comic]book) premises, so that's promising for whimsy. I'm skeptical Starfighter will look great, though. The movie is written by Jonathan Tropper, who has history with the director. He's written some books that I don't know, movies based on those books, and a movie called The Adam Project. Which appears to have been a Netflix sci-fi movie directed by Levy starring Ryan Reynolds. Frankly, I've never heard of this movie, the reviews are middling, and I'm tempted to call it Netflix slop. But that's a space movie by these two guys so that's probably where you'd want to start getting optimistic or discouraged. I hope it's an awesome movie. I'm not inspired by the track record of the folks behind it. Quote

Also not sure how I feel about an actor as big as Ryan Gosling being in Star Wars. Obviously big names are nothing new for star wars, I assume you meant moreso one of the leads being a big name since they're typically not. Stars like Ford, Isaac, and of course the more-saturated-in-movies-than-chris-pratt Pascal were all pretty early in their career when they got picked up. But even then, Liam Neeson set the precedent, being one of the main leads of TPM. 2 hours ago, RyansRebuid said: I worry. There's a short video on youtube called "the cinematography of deadpool and wolverine" that shows off a lot of his work- I think he's definitely got the capacity for it. 16 hours ago, Kaijumeister said: Preach. Yup. Hopefully there's a big january wave this year. They really need to give Gosling something iconic for the titular starfighter. I also hope the enemy faction is some sort of criminal group with a new look, maybe one from the unknown regions- doing the first order would be quite a blow to the movie, especially given a lot of fans don't like the sequels, but also because they have an existing aesthetic that's already very derivative of the imperial one. YES- that's exactly what I want. I'd take a $200 falcon if it was a significant enough improvement. (Though I also wouldn't mind a downsized one at a more affordable price- the falcon is one of the few ships I think lego still makes too big, as evidenced by the designers never knowing how to fill up the interior.) The concern being that shelf space is a factor, and we know they like to celebrate anniversaries with 18+ stuff. 2 minutes ago, CloneCommando99 said: Alec Guiness, Samuel L. So either there’s some crucial overlap between this percentage and Lego’s market or times have changed in the last 24 months. I was going to respond just with "BMF", but yeah, obviously there's a whole list of them. Tack on Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, etc. The issue is demos, as always. I've said before Andor emmy-baits (nothing against it, it's a great show and deserves some awards), but the prestige television crowd and the lego set buying crowd don't have the largest overlap. It's certainly a case where prospective buyers are probably the ones that lego's market research is showing are scared of minifigures. So maybe they put an 18+ Fondor into the works or something, but unless lego has access to better stats showing that Gen Z's second most watched show was Andor, I think we're not in the best position. But hey, they wouldn't have had access to any of this when they decided whether or not they were making one for the 1HY 2027 slot, which I still think is the most likely time slot aside from concurrent with the show's release. Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of coverage of that. One kid said something like "I don't really like anything that came out after I was born", which is brutal even if he's missing a few gems. It may be 18% of viewership, but my guess is it's significantly more than 18% of lego-buying viewership. 2 minutes ago, CloneCommando99 said: This with 2 remnant stormtroopers and 2 remnant snowtroopers would be a great January battlepack. It'll have been 5 years, but they were in the only imperial battle pack we've received in the modern era. If they had the removable heat masks they'd be different, but also a bit more niche. A pack just of four stormtroopers, or three and a scout/navy trooper/imperial crew/something might be my preferred option. Quote
Llewop Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I was thinking earlier and maybe I am wrong but is Mandolorian and Grogu going to be the first film (minus the prequels) to not have some form of TIE fighter be released by Lego. Maybe they won’t have any TIEs or they aren’t that prevalent in the film. It’s not like I’m desperate for one either just found it odd that it’ll be 9 non-prequel films and the way SW pumps out merchandise Lego always had two constants new Stormtrooper type and some form of TIE. MKJoshA Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 I've moved the last 6 comments into our Media Discussion topic. The comments are very relevant for that topic, not so much for Set Discussion. As a side note, if you want to talk about Maul that topic is a great one as you don't need to worry about Spoiler Tags. Spoilers are assumed if you go into that topic. Quote

Something like Peridea I could maybe see, but no, I think if you look at a $50, 415 piece set and think the only value is a minifigure and small molded animal, I think there's an element of projection going on. Disliking the build doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And to that point, if you think the only value in lego sets are the minifigures and that it's basically just tiny black series with pieces thrown in... why not just buy black series? i get where you're coming from, hopefully other folks like the build more than me, i wish they had done that big robot instead of a giant vader minifig. The real stop-motion miniature looks cool but this just looks like a mech + gorbage to me. I would just bricklink embo and the dog. The build isn't worth shelf-space imo. I think the new shuttle looks really good. I can't wait to see reviewers get a hold of that one. I wonder how sturdy it is, some of those flat 4x4 pieces above the gears look like they might move a bit. Edited May 7 by Alex_South Quote
RyansRebuid Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Going to my parents house this weekend. Hoping to see if I can uncover some minifigures. And going to look explicitly for pieces to 7670 Hailfire Droid & Spider Droid. The last time I was there I found the big clear disks, but I seem to have missed grabbing everything else. Hopefully I can find some stuff, and hopefully my parents don't demand I take home the whole box of Indiana Jones legos as I simply don't have space for that right now. Quote

Oh man, I would have taken a brand new TCW Bane any day of the week. Will probably Bricklink both of those variants at some point. I want to own the complete Cad collection. Brickset has it at $16 but yeah... they clearly course-corrected the Mech pricing. I agree with the rest of your posting. The build is noticably larger and the price is not that terrible, at least for 2026 standards. Hold on a moment... the Swamp Speeder is not an actual thing in the Star Wars? I always thought it was. I just think what we got now we should have received in the first place. You would have done one Battle Pack for both factions and called it a day. But since we are in the year of the Mando merch they may have wanted to take every opportunity possible. So now you basically have to recycle those 332nd Troopers again. Though I think a BP consisting only of Super Commandos would have been totally possible as well. Just my two cents on this. Oh okay. Good to know you're not forced to pay unreasonable prices in order to get the occasional Battle Pack. Well yeah, there have been plenty of sets with higher Dollarydo price tags than Euros as of late. Now it's our turn, I guess. Oh well, if next year's GWP is to my liking, this set will be primed for almost breaking the threshold for May the 4th. 3 hours ago, CloneCommando99 said: Day #378 of being in the mood for a tie avenger Quote

He gets expensive, but there are times where you just want to complete the collection. At the end of the day if you have the money, and it's worth it to you, go for it. My walmart overcharged me for the stormtrooper mech back in 2023 then. Oh, no, it is, I just meant they definitely weren't on Mandalore. I think they were on kashyyyk? There are so many republic and separatist vehicles that show up for 0.5s in the background of ROTS, really the only reason a lot of these are known at all ARE the lego sets or if they managed to get into TCW. If it was a battle pack of only supercommandos I'd have bought two on release day, even with how overpriced that $23 tag feels. As the username may imply, I'm a sucker for mandalorians (but honestly not the biggest fan of their portrayal in THE mandalorian, funnily enough. I always preferred the disparate factions and noble houses of TCW/Rebels) Yup. Though I did give in and buy the new one at full price- I had an amazon gift card and after MSL ended I just really wanted the parts for a Rook Kast figure, which pushed me over the edge of "I want the mandos and speeder but not the clones"- honestly I really do like the speeder, though obviously I've already put the clone barricade parts into the bin. If anything I think it also just illustrates how wild it is that MSL didn't get anything. Of course the alt-universe comics wouldn't get much - lego rarely does stuff for new comics and we did get an Ultimate Goblin design- and with the state lego DC's in Superman getting even the indirect tie-in was a minor miracle. Andor was a much more mature show meant for an entirely different demo than lego's target audience and STILL got a set. But MSL? The cartoon with Maul, Jedi, Mandalorians, troopers? Nothing? All excellent choices. I think the INT-4 really does have a chance, it's the perfect battle pack build. I wish they'd do more micromachines in battle packs, though the preferred option of canon vehicles is probably best. We should just get more battle packs in general so we can do both! Canonizing TIE Drones would be sick- it's the type of thing that makes perfect sense for the remnant to have, if they still have a backwoods factory or shipyard under their control somewhere, but have the problem both canon and legends do of not actually having willing troops/pilots. The Spaarti cylinders are my preferred option, but Thrawn's current zombie strategy makes sense for what he had in that galaxy, and for Officer Bald who wouldn't have access to Spaartis, drone TIES would be a good option. TIE Drones are the perfect way for Thrawn/ Remnant to keep a standing defensive fleet for their territory. No recruitment or life support systems required so they are cheaper to make and virtually unlimited due to lack of needed manpower (aside from maintenance) Thrawn I imagine is going to have a cache of TIE Defenders waiting for him back in the main Galaxy for offensive operations. (It was established in TOTE that Morgan was producing some and her factory was still in operation during Mando S2, assumably batches were probably picked up frequently and ASAP by Pellaeon or Faro in case similar events to those in that episode transpired) In an ideal Galaxy the remnant would have the resources to mass produce TIE Avengers. My one very minor gripe with a INT-4 being the next imp BP build is that the last 2 imp BPs (Dropship v Speeder and Night Troopers) also had air based patrol ships as the build. Granted the INT-4 is much more the empire’s equivalent of the T-47, but still imperial troops are in dire need of reinforcements in both infantry and ground support systems currently. Smart Play still isn’t really moving anything extra on Amazon despite all the May 4th discounts. Everyday I am thankful that there wasn’t a Smart Play Wolfpack Gunship in the March wave. Then the theme would truly have been cooked by clone bros who would have been too short-sighted and single-minded to understand what they’d be unleashing. Edited May 9 by CloneCommando99 Quote
