With TMaG releasing this week (ignoring the reception thus far), now would sure be a great time for Lego to reveal the Sandcrawler and Remnant AT-AT.

Which, of course, means they won’t. Wild to think that high-resolution images are already on a server somewhere and they’re just sitting on it.

Just a reminder to keep Media discussion (that is divorced from set discussion) in the Media thread. Talk about HTTE and the new Mando movie probably belong there rather than here.

They‘ll get revealed on June 1st at the latest anyway I‘d say, which is close  That said, revealing them today or tomorrow to celebrate the movie‘s release would make sense too!

Also, I‘m gonna watch it later today! I‘m still excited ^^

thats going to drop their price by a fair amount. Thank god the figs have been bit hit and miss recently for me.

Wouldn’t put it past Lego to reveal them on July 1st as per last year’s summer wave (catalogue scans aside), but I hope you’re right!

And great stuff, looking forward to hearing your thoughts :sweet:

Galactic Marine would be a cool figure to have in a Battle Pack! Glad they're becoming less expensive regardless.

Where the recent reviews have gone there will be nothing.
Only hype will remain.

Holy crap! You’re alive?!

I guess.

All that’s needed to save the SW brand is a Lego TIE Avenger (Day #390)

Yeah the troopers look great. No sign of the AT AT Commander unfortunately.

Wow, those Remnant Snowtroopers do get a new moulded helmet! They look great.

My first impression of the Remnant AT-AT isn’t ecstatic, but that’s solely based on unflattering angles from an animated short. Will reserve some optimism and full thoughts for the proper set images.

Yes, I just saw it! Ever since the Turbo Tank turned out the way it did, I was hoping for the Galactic Marine's inclusion in the Magazine. Now less than one year later, I'm very glad that it does happen. One highlight to get up extra early for sure. To me that's the most crucial step from skipping this set entirely. :moar:

Leak looks legit. Those animated YouTube shorts are usually rather accurate. I remember last year's Slave 1 being leaked this way too.

I really liked M&G! :sweet: Of course it’s not the most substantial story ever written, but it was very charmingly made, the action was great, Embo kicked megablocks, and Rotta was a stand-out  As many have said, it‘s like a long episode of Mando, but in a good way ^^

Swordy, Thunder Lord; Chapter Two: Sinister MOCing

(Folks, I'm no CloneCommando when it comes to crusading—probably because of the lack of English blood in my veins.)

Looks like the AT-AT drivers have transitioned back to the white/LBG colourway, which I appreciate. I think we can also assume that any and all snowtroopers in the AT-AT will be sans-mask—probably an easy assumption but just something to note.
Struggling with the head-build, but that might just be due to insufficient coverage throughout the video. The build overall looks different enough to be a pleasant experience for even an owner of any previous AT-AT.

Yup- which is what I choose to do, unless the material just has no redeeming qualities in my eyes. I know Ahsoka's not Andor, but it's fun. It feels like star wars. I can look aside some of the points I dislike (Sabine using the force, Filoni turning Ahsoka into an actual demigod) in favor of all the good it has.

They can definitely do it if they soft-retcon or at least handwave some high republic stuff, but a galaxy-wide civilization losing all that tech would have to mean not just a dark age but galaxy-wide cataclysm to cap off the old republic. Which now that I say it, could actually be pretty sick and lead to a really impactful finale. (Though I'm also one of those weirdos who thinks TROS should have ended with the Force ascending from the living to the unifying force, so  force users can no longer directly wield it and the galaxy is freed from the struggles of jedi and sith- Jedi becoming a philosophy rather than a powerset.)

The torsos at least- do you have a helmet you'd suggest.

If you're in an area that receives bricklink, it's often much cheaper than secondhand stores even with shipping, since most of them don't require brick-and-mortar stores or paid front desk employees. The Overwatch figures are definitely all great, I say as someone who's never played the games or really seen anything of them besides the lego sets. Lots of good new parts.

I see, and agree. (Though I will say Saw for sure falls into the latter category- the Inferno Squad book describes some activity of his that doesn't even need to be removed from SW phrasing to mirror some tragic real-world attacks. And on a less objective level he's directly responsible for Tech's death.)

I can't say what format the leak is because it would sort of imply one of the major things from it, but we've only a few days to wait anyway. Agreed that the show is extremely good- I'll say again probably minute-for-minute on par with or even exceeding Andor. And yes, Kebris feels uncharacteristically one-dimensional for this show. (And what, Agents of Shield? You've never mentioned watching that before, - I should probably give it a try at this point.)

I agree, I will always give Ahsoka props for feeling the most StarWarsian; much more than Andor or even Mandalorian. I just can't ignore my issues, and if those issues are ever resolved, then my opinion will improve. I don't know if it'll be like the Prequels in that further analysis helps it over time, and my issues on a macro-level (the dialogue, lol) don't entice me to revisit.
Anyway, wrong thread. XD We can move this over to the Media Discussion if you're welcome to it.

Yep. My idea is that the Sith eventually conquer the whole Old Republic, and the Jedi scatter into hiding. Once the Sith are in charge, though, their desire for conquest turns toward one other and the Sith Empire splinters into dozens of pieces, each amassing technologies for various planet-killer weapons. They start to wipe each other out one by one, then Darth Bane kills them all and establishes his Rule of Two. Once the Sith disappear, the Jedi and old allies of the Republic emerge and begin rebuilding what was lost, leading to the Galactic Republic of the Prequels. [My explanation for why the Old Sith Empire isn't truly a Galactic Empire is because the Old Republic wasn't necessarily galaxy-wide; the Sith gained a little more territory than the Old Republic, but the Galactic Republic manages to unite the whole known galaxy.] (I mean, that is what happened eventually, right? Given I've seen no one actually wield the Force.  Jokes aside, that is an interesting concept. There does need to be some finality to the Force at some point—if the dark side reemerges after destroying the Sith, when is the Force ever going to be in balance?)

I hadn't considered a helmet for Janix cops since most are sans-helmet in most of their scenes. Maybe—and this is a stretch—the black helicopter pilot headgear with a trans-brown visor? Looking at pictures online, I think that Syril torso would only work well for Lawson and a couple of in-office officers; the riot gear is a completely different ballgame, and now I'm realizing your initial dilemma.

For minifigs, yeah I can't argue there. I do prefer the connivence of going in-store over the indecisiveness of buying an unseen prospect online. Plus there's something exciting about seeing a lot of old LEGO together again, so I like supporting for that reason alone.

So, was the spoiler that

Vader shows up and kills our favourite Jedi insurance agent?

Not necessarily one-dimensional; just that his one-defining trait was introduced right when the plot needed it. I guess their motivation was foreshadowed in Chapter 3ish, but it was weird to put a face and a name to it so last minute.

(Dew it. The very first episode of S1 is garbage—uncharacteristically for this show—but from there the show builds and builds over its run into something awe-inspiring. Probably one of the most smartly written TV shows I've ever seen. S1 and 2 are better in hindsight, but it was S1 that got me to fall in love with the core cast. S3 & 5 are spectacular, while S4 is most definitely the peak. Points if you enjoy the Phase 1 era of the MCU, since it carries those vibes.)

Anyways, with how predictable the Lego Star Wars theme can get nowadays, having recently watched several reviews of the new Razor Crest, do you guys sometimes think you're watching this stuff just for completion's sake at this point? Like these reviews, fairly measured and finely put together by any stretch of the imagination, don't tell me anything I absolutely didn't expect beforehand.

I've felt the same way several times in the past… and that is usually when I pulled away from watching reviews altogether. I'll watch a review if I'm contemplating adding the set to my to-buy list, or if I need an extra boost of motivation before or after purchasing (I get buyer's remorse bad, lol). Besides that, "It's all just noise." Nowadays reviews feel more like pushes into the social media algorithm rather than genuine enthusiasm. (Not the case with a lot of blogs, to be fair, but the same feeling you described still lingers.)

I do think reading/watching reviews is helpful for informing a new fan's tastes on LEGO in general, helping him find the balance between objective and subjective value. For the seasoned fan, not so much, I think.

That quote goes too hard to be just a joke in a lego forum. I get the joke that it's a motto, but it's a very "let the game begin" type of threatening quote.

There certainly are issues with it, though like you say, many are things that can be fixed or recontextualized in the future like with the prequels. (Please let it be that Sabine was able to access the force only because Peridea is such a force-imbued place)

I like that idea. You could run through the KOTOR plot for the first one, rework the KOTOR ll plot in movie 2 a bit to have the sith empire directly taking over rather than the jedi schism into more sith, then a final film with Revan, Meetra, and their allies facing off against the Eternal Emperor, with a sort of reverse-ROTS ending of Bane establishing the rule of two and helping engineer the downfall of various other lords so the Jedi think they've won completely. I just read the Revan novel and it follows some similar bits. (Also, while I'm sure it was constrained by the games, dear lord is that a horribly depressing ending. I had to reread it a few times because I was coping and thinking it was just a character's vision, but then it kept going on and on...)

Yeah, exactly. The idea is in part that the ability of sentients to wield the force in such a tangible way is in itself a symptom of the force's imbalance- the world of the unifying force crossing over into the world of the living- and as such when balance is finally restored the ability to "use the force" disappears.

It could work for some of the cops, but I was thinking more about Two-Boot's helmet, and I just don't know how to accomplish that one.

That's fair.

The spoiler was a poster of Maul and Devon in which they're both wielding red blades. (I think? It's been a few weeks)

Yeah, Kebris should have been set up earlier.

Perhaps. I've been procrastinating on a show a friend of mine keeps recommending, so I'll have to get through that one first, but AoS is now next on my list. Though I just finished the unquestionably greatest show I've ever seen, so it's probably good that there's a buffer before I get into one that you say doesn't start too strong.

This is the one thing everyone seems to agree on, Rotta is well-done and I'm glad to hear it. Not that I would have expected any less from Jeremy Allen White, he's done great in what I've seen him in before.

This, on the other hand, is NOT something I'm glad to hear any more than all the other places I've heard it. I've always thought star wars movies need to be special- and we should have waited until 2029 to restart them- but "A long episode of the show" really doesn't feel like something justifying a movie. (And if we were going to extend part of the show into a movie, for the sake of the unifying force WHY WAS IT NOT THE RETAKING OF MANDALORE? The plotline that would have benefitted the most from more time and budget, and serves as a narratively impactful point with major plotline resolutions and deaths?)

I'm a little iffy on them just because I was under the impression the lower part of the helmet was DBG, which I don't see here, but these are such perfect McQuarrie snowtroopers that I honestly don't care too much.

Yeah, this would definitely be a case of judging too early. I'm not eager on the build either from what we've seen here, but I also think it could easily just be weird angles like you say.

The guns on the ATAT head aren't very big, but that might be accurate for this variant. I think the tile vs brick ratio looks great, and the shaping they did on the legs and joints looks clean. I wonder how different the interior will be. The 2020 one had the visual dictionary accurate interior with the chairs and the speeder bike + e-web storage, but I wonder what they did with the interior of this one. In the video we can see there is a hatch on the top of it, I am assuming that's for mando to fly out of. The color blocking looks good, I dislike how lego cheaps out on doing metallic silver, it was nice to see Jang rip into them on that with the N-1 but I do appreciate how the designers have been mixing different greys, I especially like it on the new Razorcrest, and it breaks up the light grey on this version of the ATAT

The feet look like they might articulate a bit more than usual, they look perfect. I want to see them do a snowspeeder with the new canopy piece.

I think we crave finality in our stories, but I'm open to the "balancing" of the force being a constant and intentional act. Keeping the world a good place is never just "done." In WW2 the Nazis were defeated. That probably felt quite final! But there is still a wave of people openly inspired by those (soundly) defeated who have access to power in many places. There are triumphs in the struggle over evil, but there's never a final victory in our world. Perhaps the balance of the Force is sometimes achieved but can also be undone.

My boss complimented the Lego X-Wing I've been keeping on my desk. (75301 Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Fighter.) So I got that going for me. Which is nice.

I have viewed Mando and Grogu, The Movie of All Time. My thoughts on the movie itself aren't for this thread (I'm going to sit with it a bit before posting them in the other, but they boil down to "this is the first four episodes of season 4 stitched together so transparently you can tell where one ends and the next begins"), but I'll give my updated thoughts on the sets now that I've seen the movie:

Spoiler

We have the battle of hoth at home (AT-RT attack)- this may be a case of lego getting the short end of the concept art stick, but the turret wasn't even in the movie? I think the AT-RT did need to be present but it should have been a side build in the AT-AT set. Figures are fine, for $45 it needed some snowtroopers but seeing the movie isn't what told me that.

Assemble the -legally distinct- minions! (Anzellen Starship)- like the AT-RT, this is absurdly large. This should have been a $30 set, and while it still would have been oversized it wouldn't have been as absurd. I don't think it's even just a case of the lego anzellens/grogu being out of scale- it looks in the movie like they all just sort of cram in there, rather than the much more spacious ship in the set.

NR X-wing (NR X-wing)- was in the movie for like a minute, there are much more important scenes that could have been represented and the X-wing could instead have been made for ANH's 50th next year. Ward was pushed heavily across all merch lines so I assume it was a Lucasfilm mandate, but I don't get why since she's a generic human in generic flight suit and is barely in the movie.

Does it come in yellow? (Razor Crest)- best set of the bunch. Important vehicle, figures included all make sense. The biggest omission is Rotta, but I can assume lego wasn't given art of him in time.

Embo's Aura Farm (Hutt Droid)- suffers from it's price point. The droid looks good and accurate, and the door is actually important enough to warrant the side build, but this set needed to be at a larger price point and include more. Ideally it'd have been a full Hutt palace set and included the three hutts (brick built, IMO), a throne room, and the Dragonsnake+pit with some Amani and Gotra added, but I would settle for this taking the Anzellen Starship's slot at $75 and just including the other sentry droid and a Gotra or two.

The biggest omission here is a Hutt Starfighter. 100% should have been included. The Gladiator Arena, Dragonsnake, Zeb's U-wing (Well, maybe not since we just got the Andor one), and Remnant Speeder all would not have been unwelcome.

spoiler-free TLDR: Some of the sets should have swapped sizes/price points and some should just have been vehicles or builds we didn't get.

Got back from seeing M&G I enjoyed it. Not worth hating over. Without spoilers I think it’s more of a season 1 vibe. Some potential for couple of follow up sets if they think it’s worth it.

on Reddit there is another Vader Xmas fig ? Is there a rumor of a special Christmas set this year guessing that’s going to be a thing now after the gingerbread AT-AT success?

Posted (edited)

Watched it too, 7/10 for me, but I’ll save my thoughts for the other thread at some point. Ludwig Göransson’s TMaG score is fantastic though.

Lego-wise, I think they played it far too safe with the choice of sets. Not having Embo’s ship nor the Hutt Starfighters with some of those really cool Mercenary Droids is a misstep IMO, especially as there is nothing for the Razor Crest and NR X-Wing to actually dogfight against. Again they carry over a similar issue from 2025 with copious ‘hero’ vehicles without a single compatible enemy starfighter.

@Llewop One of the main Lego leakers (Carterbricks) made a post on 1st April with a plethora of real and fake leaks, one of which was that the Bespin Duel from the set list leaked in January was actually a Christmas-themed set for this year. The leaked torso seems to corroborate that specific rumour was indeed real.

Overall, it’s interesting that playscale Lego Star Wars is 95% Mandalorian and Smart Bricks this year, I found the film enjoyable but going all in like this still strikes me as a short-sighted move. I wonder what the sales numbers will be like by the year’s end and what lessons the Lego Star Wars Team will learn from this, but it’s hilarious that the one (toyetic) piece of content this year that’s been unanimously well received is exactly what the LSW Team chose to ignore.

August-wise, we have the AT-AT, Sandcrawler, and Boba Fett statue await their reveals and that’s pretty much it for this year outside of the UCS Executor and potential Christmas Bespin Duel set.  This year as whole has felt like such a blip for the theme.
