Also, you joke, but the Umbara atmosphere in S4 was very much vietnam based with the clones dealing with the constant traps and guerilla attacks, which from what I've heard from those involved was pretty accurate.

Very cool and dramatic episodes btw; I hope we'll see more battle packs with mixed factions in the future like the recent Mandalorian one - can't even remember the last time we had any human/alien Separatist adversary. A few Umbarans with new molded helmets would be amazing.

True, I'm pretty sure Lucas was the one who made sure Delta squad had unique personalities and armor in the Republic commando game. I just wanted to give Karen Traviss some credit as I do believe it's the first time we really see any individuality in clones in the book hard contact, published in 2004.

Would make sense, by then it'd have been settled how RotS would go so it probably came down from up high to other writers doing stuff tieing into the era.

The clones' existence is pretty much a war crime, child soldier slave army of people conditioned to just be weapons. I don't hate the chips but if you look how characters like The Bad Batch or Rex abandon the empire it feels so much cleaner, something as simple as Cody not knowing makes his views on what he's done so much more interesting, like Clones weren't a good concept that turned bad, they're just a completely morally ducked idea and I feel like the ones who defect should struggle more with the idea of how much were they making choices and how their existence was so cruel.

Idk, idle ramblings but I think clones who defect shouldn't have a get out of guilt free switch. Like even without chips it was never really "their fault" but the drama rings hollow if they don't struggle with their existence at all after it

Yeah, I think it'll make LEGO more egar to use the 212th after it retires but definitely is a key factor as why they've not yet.

LEGO is surely aware they can have another Rex and Cody to insanely boost any set with the phase 1 versions. I expect they will at some point do more Phase 1s. Maybe this year not introducing any new clones could be a sign it's the end of the road for the P2 domination

Yes, I agree.

I think this year is less against Clone overkill as it's in favour of introducing the Smart Play tragedy as well as banking in on the Mando hype as much as possible. So I'm not necessarily seeing it as a sign of Phase 2 phasing out for good just yet. We might be starting to get a clearer picture next year. But yeah, it at least seems to be the end of the yearly streak of keep on pumping out new P2 units.

Yep, it's gonna be the 2013 version, pretty excited.

You also remember I had trouble to get the Battle of Peridea set at all, because it just vanished on Amazon DE long before retirement? Well, I at least get Thrawn basically for free via another happy family trade.

I don't mean to get in your hair with that stuff, Mando man. I just happen to enjoy picking up on these loose ends and report back to the original participating person.

Not that I mind, but I sure am really curious why; I suppose 95% of parents don't read AFOL reviews anyway, so know nothing of how bad the figures sound - though perhaps most even don't care for accuracy for that matter. The price for the TIE seems quite reasonable compared to other new sets, people buy overpriced sets all the time, I'd even argue they are better than the 4+ sets, so why? Lego claimed that Smart Play is so versatile and yet no other theme will get one in 2026. City should have a few sets too by now...

Well, actually, it's funny you mention the TIE, because it's the only one that's doing alright, at 2k+ sales/month. Not anything particularly good, fairly middle-of-the-road, but not poorly- and the only smart set NOT to be doing poorly.

I imagine the reasons it's not doing well are plenty. Many of people I know personally who aren't into lego have texted me a picture of the smart set display at their local target/walmart/whatever asking what the heck it is. Most adults, at least that I know, complain about how every appliance has to be "smart" nowadays- why would they want their kid's legos to be "smart" too? And I imagine most kids have either figured that out at this point, or are wrapped into screens enough that "this lego makes noise" isn't going to get them off Fortnite.

Oh, absolutely, those episodes may be my favorites in the show (aside from the Siege of Mandalore, but that's essentially a movie anyway).

I totally agree with you on this. Opposing faction packs are the only way to go if lego insists on giving us one per year instead of the old 2-4. I think in general the umbarans might be a bit niche for that role (again in the case where it's only one pack a year), but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to them showing up in some capacity, and given how many 501st packs we get a mixed back with a 501st, 212th, and 2 umbarans would be refreshing.

I agree with the first part- I think it's just a case of a heavy focus on Mando and "Smart" play. Unfortunately, I think what little we did get implies lego's bursting at the seams to continue shoving Jango's DNA onto every shelf possible- note that the ONLY TWO STANDARD SYSTEM SETS this year that aren't for Mando or "Smart" are clone trooper sets. Even in a year that's otherwise devoted in it's entirely to Din Djaren and our new droid overlords, lego couldn't resist ensuring two legions still made an appearance.

5 years after the events of Waiting Game… the TIE Avengers are no more. But when the chance at victory rears its head a lone wolf will form a brand new team to infiltrate the Lego House and extract the experimental TIE Avenger model. Will this ragtag group complete the mission the original TIE Avengers fought for? Will they undermine the corrupt Corncob? Or are they stupid?

They are…

Yeah and the award ceremony scene at the end of ANH is very reminiscent of Triumph of the Will. What did Lucas mean by this?

Oh I know. The carpet bombing of that ridge from those Y-Wings in the 1st episode made it very obvious. Also when Umbaran infantry showed up it was always close quarter combat. Which really fits the Viet Cong “grab their belts to fight them” strategy.

Also dug out a lot of parts for the 6206 TIE Interceptor, which even as a kid was always busted up and unbuilt. Would be exciting to revive it. And my parents told me they're officially moving, so time to start figuring out how to store lots of Legos in my little apartment or try to assemble & sell off the ones I can't hang on to. Absolute Perfection.

I really don't understand why the AT-AT's still under wraps. I think it's the only TMAG set we haven't seen images of yet (though the sandcrawler images were leaks). They already revealed the Hutt and Droid set, which is more spoilery than the AT-AT.

Somebody just needs to explain to Lucasfilm that there have been more than one large military gathering in human history, they've based at least one scene per trilogy off it.

This is, in effect, how they defeated Void, at least on a surface level if you don't consider the character arcs.

They literally showed off the scene the set assumably takes place in already at a number of showings. I have no idea why lego's hiding it when we've seen the two other TMAG august sets.

Now Minis Tirith has been revealed think all of Junes releases are done now so it must be soon for the AT-AT to get leaked. I’m surprised we haven’t even had complete confirmation on figures yet have we? Considering it’s based on a scene they’ve shown so much of wonder what is keeping them quiet about it?

I can only speak for myself, but I display both Phase 1 and 2 Clones united on a blue baseplate. Even alongside all B1 and B2 Battle Droids..a prequel plate, if you will. Tell me, is this enough to cleanse myself of the infamous Clone Bro rank? Or does it require more on the path to absolute redemption? I don't wanna be associated with that cult anymore.

There is already an entire wave of ANH sets on the shelves though…. Just that they are smart sets. There is zero chance of Lego rereleasing anything that is already in those smart sets. The only thing ANH will get will be a couple of 18+ sets, the way Lego does anniversaries recently is with special figures. Harry Potter and Batman and Ninjago all had gold figures. This year Harry Potter has different patronus animals  (great colour for force ghosts hint hint Lego) and SW did rare characters. So if they are inclined to do something special for next year it would be along those lines a special figure. The rest of 2027 will just be a small Asoka wave, a starfighter wave and if Mando and Grogu is a success probably more of them and also don’t forget more smart sets  what a time to be a Lego SW fan……….

I for one am actively rooting against an ANH wave. We just got a bunch of sets based on that movie, and we need the set slots for Ahsoka S2, a spoilery M&G set or two, the Starfighter wave, MSL sets, and of course our glorious TIE Avenger

Things like the buildable posters are enough of a tie-in to celebrate the anniversary I’d say.

My request for 2027 is that the Lego Star Wars Team just…make good sets.

Also, I doubt we’ll get Shadow Lord sets next year. If Lego decide to make them in response to the show’s popularity, then factoring in the development cycle for an average set means there’s no way we’ll see anything until winter 2028 probably. Otherwise I can’t imagine why they’d choose not to strike while the iron was hot with the show actually being released.

I know the double whammy of Mando and Smart Brick has eaten up this year’s slots, but if they really wanted to make a Shadow Lord set they would have done so IMO. A single set based on the show wouldn’t have completely usurped the Mando and Smart Brick lineup.

(I will very gladly eat my proverbial hat if we get a set of the Hex with a full interior and some dazzling minifigures next year)

I hope that whatever Fan Media Day presentation they have planned for January is actually good. The one for this year knocked it out of the park for most other themes whilst all Star Wars had to show was the buildable BB-8 and new Starship Collection sets.

IMO the ideal scenario for 2027 would be:

1) Good coverage of legacy films and shows (the January set list already indicates this will happen).

2) A decently sized wave for Starfighter (5 sets would be my guess).

3) Coverage of Ahsoka Season 2. The show by all accounts looks as epic and creative as live action Star Wars can get. My personal approach would involve covering both halves of the main story in set form; something representing the mystical side of the story on Peridea, and another set covering the main conflict between Thrawn and the Nightsisters against the New Republic.

4) Something special to do with ANH. This is the film that started it all, and it seems appropriate to highlight it in some way either with definitive system-scale versions of certain ships and scenes, or even just a UCS set based on it. It doesn’t have to dominate the year.

On Point 4), the McQuarrie concept figure idea people on this forum have previously come up with would be PERFECT. Heck, they could even make a set or two based on his concept designs of OT ships.

5) This is pushing it, but also use the anniversary celebration as an excuse to push out some sets that people have been unanimously clamouring for; like the Fondor Haulcraft, Stinger Mantis, Shadow Lord sets, etc.

It’s funny because before the LSW started diversifying its product lineup across more 18+ sublines, you could hit all five of the above points and that would just be an average year for the theme.

Surely having a 3.5 year gap between seasons of show with divided reception isn’t the best business move? I’m just waiting for a hopefully awesome Thrawn campaign tbh.

I fear the best we can hope for right now is at most 2-3 sets. A Starfighter Duel Pack for the NR vs Thrawn conflict (NR A-Wing vs TIE Defender with Thrawn, Enoch, Ezra and Hera?), a Peridia set with the titular character and maybe a NR vs Empire BP.

You forgot to mention something really important. HERETIC!/s (Day #383)

But no. There’s literally no reason not to reveal it. The entire scene has been on kriffing Disney + for a week now. I absolutely agree. Especially on your account of allegedly having suffered irreparable damage to your ears with all the Smart Play stuff already. Please don't do anything beyond that next year. Even without it... don't waste even more precious play scale set slots. The occasional 18+ display model based on ANH would suffice.

With that I kinda disagree. The release of a new extra sub-theme is not enough to celebrate any given anniversary, let alone half a century of Star Wars. Though it would hardly matter when sets like the Bounty Hunter Pursuit Remake still released. Even without anniversary packaging and exclusive line-up of bonus minifigs, this set would still feel very nostalgic and like it launched this time on purpose.

1) The January Wave... did I miss something? You mean the originally assumed "Summer Wave" with the Bounty Hunter Pursuit, Ewok Village, Bespin Duel etc.?

2) It will be interesting to see how Lego deals with movie releases nowadays. Mando being Mando might not be the best indication of that. Will they treat it like any of the Disney Movies from last decade with multiple waves or more like a regular Disney+ Show with coverage of just two to three sets and that's basically it? I wouldn't exactly be shocked if it's the latter.

3) If only I could get hyped for that. Maybe with the first proper trailer.

4) A sweet spot for ANH would be in order. With the many "smart" sets already available, no need to shove it further in our faces. But given it's cult status and basically unmatched iconography, they still can't ignore it completely. So make a couple of 18+ sets to do it justice. UCS, Diorama, Bust, the rumoured poster, you name it.

4.5) That still sounds almost too creative and interesting of an idea for Lego to come up with. If they do it, it's only because of Eurobricks.

5) Yep, that's really pushing it. Realistically speaking, almost none of that will happen. Just not enough shelf space to accommodate some extra wishes. Shadow Lord sets I can see. Stinger Mantis and Fondor Haulcraft I cannot.

So true. Before the dark times...

From the sounds of Asoka S2 does sound like a lot of set potential. Ie new republic ships, imperial remnant ships. Supposedly more  night sisters, whatever’s happening on Peridia. You kind of hope that would be the time they do a New republic and imperial remnant BP at least. Still need to get Enoch you don’t introduce a man with a gold face mask and not let the toy companies merchandise the hell out of him.

also don’t think it’s a big prediction but I reckon there will be some tie in at the end of Mando and Grogu to series 2 of Asoka.

Think ANH UCS is certain and TIE interceptor should have retired by then maybe? So why not. But as someone else suggested the movie posters are probably good enough for a nod. I’d still like to have some anniversary figures but this time just like gold ones or force ghost ones.

In the way that we got force awakens sets last year, maybe. The smartslop experiment isn't exactly the anniversary wave people are asking for.)

Besides, there's plenty they can do that wasn't covered in those sets. (Though a new flagship Falcon would be nice, and I think you HAVE to do a definitive Red Five.) It's been forever since the last Y-wing, Tantive IV, hell, the droid escape pod would make a nice $10 set. You could do some interior death star playsets like the trash compactor or detention block.

This isn't even specific to star wars, but the streaming era has killed TV. Years between seasons, extremely short seasons, it kills the momentum of the show. You always get people saying "it's better it's delayed and good than if it's rushed", but... that's a false dichotomy. Most shows used to be yearly releases of 22-23 episodes, and they weren't all terrible- and plenty of the shows today that take three years to make four hours of content aren't any better. I just got done watching an incredible show, had a 28 episode season, I start the next season and... bam. The whole thing is under four hours. Feels like somebody dropped the floor our from under you.

Rant aside, as it relates to Ahsoka, yes, this is a problem that is going to hurt viewership- not that it matters, since IIRC they already decided this is the last season. And who knows when the Filoni movie will come out to resolve this, if ever. I have faith he won't just end the Thrawn storyline in this show, but it's a difficult line to walk regardless- Thrawn can't be successful enough that people who haven't seen Ahsoka will be confused at how this blue guy took over a chunk of the galaxy in the Filoni movie, but if he's defeated or does nothing here people who have seen the show won't see him as a threat. And Star Wars shouldn't be dealing with these late-stage marvel issues anyway- as much as I liked the Ahsoka show I do feel like there's too much live-action content.

Enoch was a breakout design, too. There was that viral Roman Empire tweet, but in general he's very much the "military guy with sick design and some sense of honor" archtype that always does well.

Spoiler

I saw somebody who claimed to have seen the movie in a test screening heavily imply Thrawn shows up.

I think a $300+ UCS Tantive IV would make a lot of sense in 2027. It could replace the sail barge at around that price point since it's retiring this year. It's probably the most due for a remake as far as big sets from ANH go. I think a UCS Tie Advanced is also likely for the may 4th set.

EXACTLY. I didn’t dislike any of the shows, but 3 seasons of Mando, 2 seasons of Andor and Ahsoka, plus TBoBF, SC, Kenobi, The Acolyte, and all the animated shows and miniseries were a bit much for a relatively short time period. They overdid it with the streaming content, and Marvel is even worse :snicker: Granted, I liked all of the SW shows way more than most of the Marvel ones, but it was still overkill.

I think they learned their lesson since the 2028 slate is still empty.

I think the slate is empty tbh because all future releases are waiting for existing projects to release.

I’ve been a fan of all the live action series boba fett wasn’t the best but I think he’s overrated as a character anyway so wasn’t too disappointed. The problem they have is like most TV shows these days is the massive gap in time between seasons. Used to be able to get 23 episodes every year for 5 years for a good Tv show now they struggle to do 6-8 every 2-3 years. Something has gone wrong on the production side of TV shows.

im hoping to get some more info on whatever is coming for the rest of the year soon
