I’ve been paying attention to the recent run of best minifig polls he’s been doing. I will say that the Clone glaze in them is abysmally shocking half the time.

I’m a Jang, Brick Yoda and Solid Brix guy myself. But I’d definitely take Lonely over Brickreporter or JediBricks any day of the week even despite the latter arguably now being a reliable leaker. I just really dislike their click bait, it’s way worse than most YouTubers.

Yeah, those clone mini figures seem to win all those polls. It's silly. I will check out some of these other Youtubers you've recommended if they pop up while I'm browsing.

And thanks for the welcomes all others.

Thank you! It's good to be back. This community here on Eurobricks is a rare breed of decency and civility on the internet, and I wouldn't trade it for nothin'.

Trust me, when I think of one, I immediately remember the other. They both even out in terms of coolness factor for myself; one worked with Revan, the other fought Malgus, and both of them stand out regardless. But yeah, ultimately it came down to whichever one lacked a minifig.

Lol, it's true. TLG have never been renowned for their tech, which may clue into why they're marketing Smart Play so much.
Seeing but two OT playsets on LEGO.com just brings to mind all those mini-essays I wrote last year, lol, and the discussions we had then as well. For what they're worth, I'm glad the Smart Play sets have brought the OT trio back into sub-$100 sets—although there's nary a sub-$30 option in sight, which is still a shame since kid-Swordy could never afford most sets northward of $50. :hmpf_bad: I don't know how kids make it these days.
At least there's an easily accessible set for kids to buy immediately after seeing Mando & Grogu; my top wish for 2027 is for the same to be true of Starfighter and even the original Star Wars.
The list of deals I found were at the usual place. Which I assume is understood as r/Legoleaks? (Rancor don't eat me.)

Swordy, Thunder Lord; Chapter One: The Built Revenge

Seriously though, physical merchandise helps me connect to new Star Wars in ways the actual show/movie sometimes cannot, so the lack thereof does sting. I'm so glad that we've had TCW Maul and Marrok in the past few years, because that does help tide me over; I can't imagine being a fan who missed out on those two figures. Even purist customs can't work completely here, since we've never had a pink/red Twi'lek headpiece, and pieces for yellow-skinned Zabraks and all-black Mandos are hard to obtain.

Glad to hear it!

It's a shame Malek soft-deconfirms us getting KOTOR stuff anytime soon.

I won't even give them that, given Luke, Han, and Chewie are "smart" minifigures, not normal lego minifigures. (I think Leia is normal, but then again she's also $90). I refuse to count the "smart" sets as normal ones given the prices and compromised figures/builds. The Mando/Grogu speeder is an excellent set concept, though.

I cannot find this list, even searching in the usual place. Was there anything good on it?

If we're doing this, I call one of the Blackout Mandos who sticks with Maul and Kast.

Yup. Honestly even Marrok doesn't work very well- Lego has an odd hangup on giving the generally very lithe inquisitors bulky armor, and Marrok's rusting gunmetal armor is a far cry from his black appearance in the show.

As far as purists go, yeah, we're in a rough spot. Maul obviously is no issue. You could do an OK Lady Kast without too much trouble (and I will probably go do so). I would argue the nightbrothers, while more orange than strictly red, probably aren't too hard either. Characters like Lawson and The Crow could also be done alright.

But you can't do the blackout mandos at all. You can't do Imperial Era Marrok. You can't do any of the Janix police or two-boots. And most telling, you can't make Devon, who's one of the three main characters.

That’s Bob l’éponge to you, mister! :laugh_hard:

But yeah, this year introduces a surprisingly low number of new pieces compared to previous years, given there’s a new movie which is usually the source for a whole bunch of new parts!

Maybe there will be a couple more in the remaining sets, but I’m not expecting much here. I guess we can also blame the SB sets for that one  Their budget has to come from somewhere, after all!

No, I'm an american, our whole dialect came out of mispronouncing foreign words and removing u's.

I do wish we'd be able to someday see how the smart brick development worked. We know it'd been in development for ages, so while there is of course a pretty big chance they just ended up taking the money from the 2026 budget, I wonder how much R&D costs factored into that.

Sometimes they make sense, but some of the ones I used to see would have a random clone battle pack beating an AT-AT or something for "best set" and it's one of those things that make you stop and realize just how many fans are just in it for the minifigs.

But Tapal has his own clone legion and oh, right, it'd just be 4 of the 13th legion clones chilling with a crab droid or something as a battle pack. Honestly they're running out of legions I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the Iron Battalion at some point.

Man I’m just not into the mandalorian stuff at all, vehicles or ships at this point the light cruiser being the last set I bought but the interior/play features on that was just so disappointing. The lambdas the only set I really want for obvious reasons. I haven’t been up to date on the leaks but I think that’s all for me this year unless they have a mbs hoth or Endor set coming at the end of the year.So many sets on shelves yet almost all are skippable for me

I don't have a ton of time this weekend, but I'm hoping I get a chance to try and track down all the pieces of my two 8014 Clone Walker Battle Packs in there. The minifigs are honestly the hardest part. I haven't sorted them because I think a lot of them got separated from the pieces. Most of the pieces of sets I have, at least. The minifigs I think went on some far-reaching adventures in my parents' house from which they have not returned.

Yup. There was a brief, beautiful month or so where it looked like Smart Play would be something that, while not what we wanted, didn't take away from the sets we'd normally get. And then leakers started saying the august wave was actually "a lot of" 2027 stuff.

I still hold out a bit of hope- "a lot of" and "literally all but one of the sets on the list" aren't exactly the same. But it's definitely a darned fool idealistic cruscade.

I've been working a little on Shadow Lord customs, and mostly stand by what I said earlier. There are some goof parts availible- Reaper from Overwatch has a perfect head for The Crow, for instance- but as @Swordy has said there's just no way to make Devon, which is a glaring omission given she's the (protagonist?) of the show. You never know. At some point, Disney has to realize the need to pivot to KOTOR, and perhaps with a movie or TV show we'll see sets.

Leia's "smart" too. It is annoying to see the logo on the back of the figs, especially since that's only helping resellers and collectors than kids, whom they promote as the target demographic. However, compromised or not, they are functioning minifigs of the iconic characters. The lack of separation between the torso and hip isn't great, but it's better than no minifig at all. Only short-cape Vader bothers me—a great deal at that—because it does compromise the look of the character.
The prices and builds are the biggest concerns to me. I do have a theory about the compromised builds: The smart bricks are electronics and thus potentially prone to overheating, so it's probably wise for them to sit out in the open. Plus given not every set includes a smart brick, it makes sense that the brick can be swapped easily. The pricing of the sets still don't make sense no matter which way you pull at it, and even moreso if the target audience is supposed to be kids. The only market TLG could catch with those prices are the kids who already own a tablet, which will always be more entertaining than a plastic ship that makes generic sounds.

Mando's helmet, UCS TIE Interceptor, Jabba's Sail Barge, buildable 3PO, brick-built Star Wars logo, and UCS AT-ST are all rumored for a 20% off discount. Other than that, I'm 90% sure that, except for every 18+ set, every other LSW set is set for 2x points, including the sets set for retirement in July and the most recent M&G wave.
It's great news to me since I don't care for most of the 18+ slop anyway, although 2x points would've helped offset said 18+ sets' marked-up pricing.

You have a deal. (I would parody "The Empire's betrayal must have consequence" line, but CloneCommando's done it already so I'll have to think up something else.)

True, although you could just remove the armor piece. I don't mind the rust terribly, and the appearance in the show leans to me as shadowy rather than Vader black. To each his own, though; an updated Marrok would be maul-velous.

Kast should be easy, definitely; I'm waiting for the Siege on Mandalore BP to go on discount first. True about the Nightbrothers; I find it awkward to use multiple Maul faces in the same group, but it can work. Both Lawson and the Crow are achievable, true, although I personally lack the parts necessary.

If we're open to slight interpretation, I could see the Blackout Mandos using the old Durasteel Mando helmet; an actual Mando torso and legs in black doesn't exist but general black/gunmetal armor does. Janix police are tougher; they have the same colourway as Pre-Mor security, so maybe Syril could work? (Not like everyone has a bunch of Syril's lying around… I certainly don't.) Like I said, the inability to recreate Devon hurts the most—between her and Lawson, probably my favourite characters on the show.

The problem with the Crow is, while that head is perfect, it's also from a 5-year old Overwatch character. (Am I just upset I don't own the figure? Probably. I'll do my best to track it down.)

I'd classify Maul as the Sherlock-type of protagonist; not always in the open but always driving the plot. While Maul is a villain, he's also the title of the show, which does elevate him as the central focus, thus protagonist regardless of his questionable morality. It's hard say whether Lawson is an antagonist then; he's working against Maul, but who knows where he ends up by the end of this season, since he's clear about avoiding the Empire. To that end, the Empire would be the societal antagonist; like the French Revolution in Les Miserable, which isn't intentionally attacking our characters (other than Maul) but squeezes them to make difficult choices. As for Devon, again, it's unclear where she'll go by the end. I can see her as another antagonist to Maul alongside Lawson, or joining Maul by the end, making her journey to be from enemy to ally.
What I love about this show is how it doesn't shy away from showing these villains as evil, but forces us to observe their actions and thought-processes anyway. It doesn't flip bad guys and good guys; just our perspective.

Likely the worst offense about smart bricks to me. I remember listening to a Star Wars podcast (who are of the Kenner generation rather than LEGO) interviewing someone about Smart Play. The interviewee made the statement, "Well, add least Smart Play is adding to the portfolio as opposed to taking away." Immediately I thought, No, I got a bad feeling about this. Because shelf space is an issue; because the design and research into these sets are still a factor; factories around the world still have to produce these "smart" sets in addition to the others on the market. It makes a lot more sense that Smart Play would eat into this year's lineup. I still hold out hope for an adequate summer wave, but to say that Smart Play wouldn't take away from this year's lineup does, as you say, sound like a fever dream looking back.

Good picks. I personally would add Kanan to that list too - I agree he’s not the most interesting in S1 too but I still think it sets up his long-term character arc really well.

What’s upsetting (I use this word within the context of a hobby that involves plastic building blocks) is the precedent it sets with Lego Star Wars now. You can have some genuinely amazing content coming out and there is a significant chance Lego will just ignore it in favour of largely bland and uninspiring sets. As @Swordy put it so eloquently, Lego collecting is a way of connecting with the Star Wars stories we love in a tangible way, but we can no longer rely upon this theme to at least try and fairly appeal to a range of demographics.

I wish Lucasfilm as a licensor would be a little more assertive with Lego. In my opinion, every major show and video game should get at least (or at most) one playset. Given the amount of buildables and 18+ nonsense they pump out, you can’t tell me there aren’t enough slots to do this. I’ll reiterate that Lego should look to Hasbro, Jazwares, Hot Toys etc. as a lesson in why it’s important to maintaining diversity of source media in your product portfolio.

I didn’t think about the implications of the Smart Bricks potentially overheating, that’s a good point! Especially with the wireless charging aspect too.

”18+ slop”, I am so using this moving forward.

I’m being a tad hyperbolic but this is the sort of thing that reinforces my opinion that Lego Star Wars’ overall direction is tone-deaf to the extreme. The worst part is the self-congratulatory attitude they seem to have about it too.

Ahsoka could be fairly grating pretty much until around the time she got the second costume and lightsaber. Ezra I didn't mind quite as much because I felt he suffered for his hubris more than Ahsoka, but he certainly could be annoying for awhile as well.

Devon is somewhat irritating for about one scene and then becomes by far the best "young protagonist" of any of the animated shows almost immediately. I'm gonna give a shoutout to the voice actress again because she's delivered a couple of screams of rage now that I'd put on the level of Steven Yuen's acting in Invincible, like you can feel their vocal chords shredding in the audio.

I don't think there's any way it'll flop, but if it's not very good it could certainly end up causing the sets to shelfwarm. The AT-RT one specifically- it's too expensive to be in that "birthday gift for friend's kid/kid's friend" range, but if you're a kid looking at it there's literally no draw. Mando and grogu are availible for way cheaper. Every kid has an AT-RT- or could just get the set with an AT-RT and like five more figs for the same price. Anzellen ship could also do poorly- though it's the only TMAG set I'm personally thinking I'll buy. The Crest is close enough to show material that I could imagine it doing alright even if the movie flops, though.

Yeah- if we're saying FLAWLESS I would only put Cal and Baylan on there, but Devon, Kanan, and Shin are all great as well. (Sabine? Does she count? I know people dislike her choices in Ahsoka but I also think that was entirely the point- she makes an Anakin style decision to save her loved on at the expense of the wider galaxy)

Yes. And, like, look. I get that some years are going to skew one way more than others. But sometimes it's just ridiculous. Especially the faction stuff- you would imagine that kids want separatist stuff for their clones to fight, but the MTT vs juggernaut is I believe the only time in the modern era of the theme that the seppies have had a counterpart vehicle.

Eh- I would say to an extent. I can understand them not pumping out content for andor, as good as it was, and I think they dodged a bullet on Acolyte. But Shadow Lord is just such a toyetic show you would think Lego would imagine that it's worth it even if the show does poorly just because it's sets with Maul and Mandalorians.

It's broken out of the lego fandom specifically- I get memes on social media that aren't from lego-related accounts but are mocking how many buildable grogus they've put out recently. Unless sales correspond to the tone of these memes it won't change anything, but it's amusing to see.

I really think so many of the brand's image problems would be solved by added transparency. I bring this up all the time but Hasbro reveals products by having their designers show them off- they bring toys from home to compare the new products with, they know their stuff, and they're incredibly transparent on "we had X budget left so we had to make this transformer a recolor" or "there was only X space left on the sprue so he has a sword instead of his mace". (And on a more cynical level, it's very easy to be excessively negative with a faceless company, but when John Designer says he knows this figure has a little less articulation and it's because they wanted to focus on adding more weapons, it's hard to be rude to him.)

Yeah- while some may think it won't do well I don't think anyone is HOPING for it to be bad or fail. I assume we would all love it if it turned out to be peak mandalorian.

As much as I'd love them to, they've dug somewhat of a hole. The High Republic retcons a lot of tech, so unless they want to drastically change a lot of aspects of the era, or create a dark age that sets tech back thousands of years (which would retcon the time of peace thing but TBH I think High Republic already escalated conflict beyond what you could call generally peacetime), they can't do it right. Of course, they could also just generally retcon out chunks of the high republic, which would be my preferred option.

I suppose they're generally functional- unless you look at them from the back, or try to take their legs apart from the torso, or vader. But I agree the builds and prices are the bigger issues. It's an excellent point at the end there, and one that has wider usage with lego's tech integration attempts- lego is very focused on creating a bridge between ipads and physical toys, when kids are either using the physical toys as breaks from or instead of ipads. If a kid gets unlimited Ipad time legos that beep at him aren't going to draw his attention anymore than normal legos. That child is lost to the tablet. And a kid who's already eschewing tech or being made to partially eschew it by good parents probably isn't going to want his legos to beep at him.

Eh- not bad, I suppose it's not like black friday where sales are expected. With how much I've been enjoying Rook I might break and get the 2x points on the 332nd pack.

Looking at him again I can't tell for sure- I'd personally say he's closer to black then gunmetal, but you're right that at the very least he does HAVE a minifigure, which is more than can be said for most characters.

Icarus having the bandana helps keep him distinct, and luckily there's a number of different maul faces/expressions to use, though new dedicated prints for the nightbrothers in that tomato soup color lego recently added would be preferrable of course.

It's the closest we could get, but the blackout mandos not having black helmets would be frustrating to me. The issue with Syril for Janix police is that as an army-buildable figure who appeared once in a $70 set, he's now around $13-15 each in the US, and only his torso would really be usable- with no helmets that fit at all. And as you say Devon just doesn't work.

True, but he's also somehow significantly cheaper than Syril- I may pick a few up since the one copy of his head I have from back then keeps getting shunted between a number of characters in my collection, and it never hurts to have more of those trenchcoats or commando torsos.

True about Maul, though I'd say he's unquestionably a villain. He may be a protagonist and a villain, but he's 100% an evil character- sort of like what they've allegedly done with Bullseye in the daredevil reboot I refuse to watch- he may be trying to ally himself with the protagonists, but he's also just a mentally unstable mass murderer in it because he has a personal grudge against other villains. I think Lawson's unquestionably a protagonist through and through. There was a big leak around the time the first episode aired with some major spoilers, so I won't speak on anything relating to how Devon ends the season. Absolutely agree on the latter part, and it's part of why my only major complaint with the show is that they don't extend that exploration to the empire, or characters like Kebris. But it's nice to see so much development for characters like Maul, Rook, Vario, etc. Even Daki, Lawson, Two-Boots, etc, while not antagonists, are characters given greater ambiguity and depth than you'd typically see from star wars.

Immediate buy of the Hutt and Droid set! Embo and his wolf look great, and I love the droid's almost warhammer-esque design. Plus it'll be a nice way to get that new Grogu.

Dunno about the calendar. It's partially just because of how excellent the prior one was, but this one is back to the standard. Elements of it are excellent- I love the little dewback and blurrg- but some other ones, like the Mudhorn, are pretty rough. I don't know how to feel about the new IG unit head- it looks nice, but was it necessary? I'm unsure.

IG-11 gets a moulded head! *huh* The new piece will also be used for IG-88 in the UCS Executor, they say.

hoping it is the same print for both that they just call IG-11, would hate a new molded head for IG-88 behind a $? pay wall for a super star destroyer

I am so averse to dust collecting on sets that I only build and display a handful of sets at a time. The majority of my collection is sets I’ve yet to build  Maybe I’m being too minimalistic to a fault.

This may be unpopular but I often think more minimalist displays look better. Too many sets together just look like clutter.

Speaking of voice acting, I find Two Boots voice VERY annoying, why didn't they make a droid with a nice suave voice. That's my only real knock against the show.

It has a pretty low budget so it probably wont truly flop, but I'd be surprised if it made a lot. It comes out in less than a month and no one seems to be talking about it. The hype for TFA, R1, TLJ, felt much higher to me. Perhaps people are excited for it and it's just me who's not? Idk
