  1. I got a few questions. The Sbrick handles 4 peripherals, so: Doies it have thermal protection? If so what is max current rate for the SBrick and Is there a max current per device or a combined one? If it is unprotected when using uncapped power sources like custom Lipos could it handle 4 5292 motors? Well any info on power ratings for the SBrick will be welcome.

  5. The sad part is that Lego will never release a fly ready motor, because if it is fast and powerful enough it can become a circular saw. Not very child friendly. It will never release a battery powerful enough because that poses electrical/fire hazard risks. Even a proper propeller may prove too sharp and dangerous. So pure Lego will never ever flight. So the real question is not if Lego can fly, it can´t. What is the bare minimum non Lego needed to achieve flight? I'd say propellers to achieve some hovering with ground batteries and motors for a real flight. Batteries can be ok with AA LiFePo cells and old style boxes. Science: crushing dreams one by one since.. well ever. On the other hand dreams can't make Lego fly, science can. So I'd say thanks Blackbird for the sanity check.

I did not expect it to be easy and not even a close estimation -by now -, Indeed I had some notions about work, force and friction, and those equations Hrafn put in are bringing back some memories. Now at least I got a start point. I remeber using two distinct formulas one to calculate initial rolling resistance and a second one for ongoing resistance, both taking different coefficients of friction, so there are a lot of factors to consider. But again thanks guys. Physics + Lego? Double the fun
  7. Let me start saying that Philo technical pages are awesome. There you can find all the useful data for any Lego motor and friction coeficients for different wheels. Also that 4x5292 prolific Sariel did got me thinking about Lego and speed. And what it takes to go fast with Lego. Now I barely remember my physics lessons, but I think that with Philo charts it could be somehow predicted maximun theorical speed for a model based on weight, motors, voltage, wheel diameter, gear ratio.... Even transmission friction could be factored in based on number of gears and axles to get a better aproximation. but that goes beyond my main goal. Is this possible? Could anyone point me in the right direction for this or give a hint with some formulas?

  9. Some fresh LiFePo AAs can provide up to 9.6 volts and high current in an old style battery box... that would be max power without really cheating or going too far out of spec for the motors. And even then rpms may be not enougth and those propellers are completely useless
  10. No fourth one? It is very disappointing given the amazing evolution .This last one looks fantastic. What scale is it? Hummer is already a heavy vehicle, I wonder how those 4Kg relate to the real weight and the scale.
  11. Gliding is easy but you need some plastic film, silk paper or something so non pure Lego. Blimps have been seen before too. I bet some hovering is possible simply using non Lego propellers while keeping the power source at ground. For proper autonomous flying batteries can't be Lego ones and even with some custom Lipos I don't think it can work with Lego motors.
  12. My vote goes on every tube is a part, otherwise it won't be fair for LA's, that may need many axles and conectors.

  17. So I was daydreaming at work and some doubts came to mind... Proper bracing and appropiate gears can avoid grinding and broken parts but how much torque can be applied to an axle before it starts deforming? What happens first broken gears or axle fatigue? I know some people reinforce them with half bushes; how effective is that? what happens to the axle sections across beams? Sometimes a vehicle with a good drivetrain and enough grip can get stuck with the motors stalled, what does it take for the axles to become spirals? How many XL motors at 1:1 does it take to achieve that... Well I guess you get the point...
  18. What I like is that it is almost a full PF set, just missing the lights. Are the receivers V2?

  20. LLD DDL... More like LDD You need to put the gears in order and turn them so the teeth match when you do it. edit: Btw I don't see axles, it is easier to put some axles before, you can remove or replace them later.
  21. So If the non disclosure agreement lifts in June is there a release date already? (even if that date can't be published until June)
  22. It is interesting,somehow with a clever mechanism a tensioned rolled fabric could be used as flat surface between the arms of the bridge. I'd like to see the outtakes of that video by the way, did anything fall?
