  1. About the parts that look unfocused use a smaller aperture.
  2. Resistance is futile. Also expectations in this thread tend to skyrocket so disappointment is unavoidable, just not another 42039 fiasco please
  3. lipko Old school Technic is like playing Commodore games, yeah, those were amazing... back then, when we did not know anything better. My favorite set is still 8860 but when the time to build comes I simply want more, because now I know better. I prefer Old School being an option, not the only option, so yeah, bring the new parts.
  4. The Volvo front Loader is clearly "yellow heavy machinery", the Unimog not so much. So how does the Volvo franchise relate to the Mercedes one in Lego Terms? I don't expect the new Mercedes to be anything in the "yellow heavy machinery".
  5. While I understand to a point comments like Lego is not for you or move on from Lego, there is some narrow minded thinking there. Even if small scale is not one of my concerns I understand piterx frustation. If Technic is what it is today is because designers wanted to overcome limitations and designed new parts, even whole systems. Also there is a perpetual request for new parts, remakes of older models like 8455 and 8880 and new designs in these forums, so he is not alone. Anyways any new parts that solve any Technic problem make Technic richer and open the doors to new designs. So don't quit Lego, keep asking for more parts
  6. Having to quote myself is pretty sad as it implies you are answering to something that you did not even read. Anyways Lego had hard times some years ago, I expect them to appreciate feedback before wallets begin hurting them hard, and correct course.
  7. There is so much wrong in this somewhat ad hominem comment... I will take care myself about my feelings, my possible deep "pyschological" needs and the sensible solutions for them thanks. In the technical plastic construction toys there are other minor systems aside form Lego Technic and there are some minor third party manufacturers. But unlike in RC world for example there is a de facto monopoly. Now if you focus in the facts instead of the feelings and try to think by yourself what does that mean for the end user. And then think a bit more. I am pretty sure you will be able to go beyond the "stop buying Lego"
  8. I don't understand why the number of motors is so important. My take on this would be "Use the 4 channels of the SBricks on at least 4 different remote controlled (motorized) functions " If every function takes one motor or more motors or if one motor controls a gearbox to multiplex functions ... who cares?
  9. We are locked in a monopoly. Lego is on average expensive, some Lego parts are absolutely unreasonably priced, and prices differences within the UE for example are ridiculous. In the long run unless Lego learns to take more care and do less milking of their customers, I foresee a part of the AFOL community getting their parts from 3D printing services. 3D printing is not yet there but it is just a matter of time.
  10. Just trying different things in LDD, the chain thingy is for a fork lift.
  11. I don't own any wide tread link and I am building in LDD, which is awful managing chain links. It was getting hard to get something useful but I already improved what I was trying quite a bit, thanks. Nope.
  12. Is there a specialized part to attach any of those to a studded or studless part? I need a "fixed end" and the solutions I came with are a bit bulky, suggestions are welcome.
  13. That only means there are many ways of building a yellow mobile crane Since 8455 -11 years old- every couple years there is a model with 2-3 pneumatic cylinders. and zero flagship pneumatic sets since. but in less than that we got 3 mobile cranes. How is that possible? Budget oriented building is probably hampering development. Furthermore I reckon big half empty orange boxes for example signal a too big influence from the marketing department. All in all I think 2014 had somewhat "innovative" models, Cargo plane and Construction crew come to mind. For 2015 there is 42038 and 42039, although changes to 42039 from beta pics highlight how subtle compromises can take quite a bit from a set. Is there stagnation in the "technic" part of Technic sets? I wonder how many new molds did they make for the Lego Movie sets and how many for Technic?
  14. I want to do some custom air tanks to begin with, then based on exit/failure a full hydraulic system using silicone oil. The reason for using Lego instead of other means is that I don't want it to be bulky. Also there isn't a "ins't Lego" thing for me, some projects use Lego parts only, others don't. Chocolate may be no 100% chocolate, you know, with the insect parts and all in it, I still call it chocolate. And I still call this Lego all the way.
  15. Nice necromancing powers. Anyways... I'd say yes.
  16. For me that and stacking beams are technics within the paneled style rather than styles.
  17. Anyways aren't electric cars the future? If so PF motors are already there
  18. Based on your experience do scale become a factor when choosing the building method? For example does Technic base with model team body require a "minimum size" to start getting good results? Do the these techniques gain or lose appeal on bigger/smaller scales?
  19. There is a special place in TLG for AFOL wishes, is the place where dreams go to die, where hope kills itself and innovation is hammered to the ground. I think they call it board meeting.
  20. Edit: now I understand the question silly me There is potential in there but in my opinion only for compact models, and I can't see it being cost effective at all.
  21. Tie it to a couple of giant engines and it becomes a pod racer. The "wings"? look neat Oh man, no parts limit for that, crazy things might arise from such a contest.
  22. There are many different parts that I may need to glue together, some may need some kind of glue able to fill in some gaps while others are flat and narrow surfaces so anything might work. The hoses are standard Lego ones. "foam safe" CA is something I didn't know of, looks promising for just gluing parts, however the air tight requirement makes me wary of it. I might have use for it in another project anyways so good to know. I have worked with epoxy before but it isn't cheap so that will be my last option, although it has good filler properties. From your comments and some more internet research I think acetone and abs dust made from old bricks might be a good all around solution and very cost effective. I guess it will take some practice to achieve polished results, and filling gaps may require a lot of experimentation with the mix.. I just remembered that I used some PVC glue in my aquarium installation and the type of bond is exactly what I have in mind. Not sure if it will work on ABS, It might be worth a try. For the hoses I will make sure the nozzles are clean using some alcohol , but it might be complicated as at some point I want to make some experiments with silicone oil and everything will get a bit messy. But I might have that solved your mention of the clamp gave me the idea of tying some fishing line around the hose at the nozzle and that will give it some extra grip. Thanks for the answers, I now have to do some tests before having definitive answers. Edit: After looking more carefully into it acetone albeit cheap won't make the kind of bond I want, I guess it suffers the same process Blackbird explained for CA. So the "foam safe" CA may be better after all. The PVC glue looks perfect if it works with ABS, otherwise I will need an equivalent for ABS or go for the epoxy.
  23. Is there any specific glue recommended for ABS? I have seen it is possible to use acetone and abs dust. I knew this was possible with acrylic, did not know about ABS. Is it a good option? I was thinking of model glue too, I remember it was able of melting the plastic, so I guess that could work. Indeed I want not only to glue a few parts together but to achieve a perfect seal and a bond strong enough to keep the parts together at max pressure possible with the Lego pneumatic system. Any idea of how ABS and epoxy bond together? Any recommendations on how to keep hoses from coming off? Also thinking of melting bricks... I know, I know I will burn in hell for my unholiness
  24. Hmm that thing can provide up to 8 amps. enough to melt something if the motor is stalled.
