Efferman's Custom Parts
aol000xw replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As I picture it the cylinder container of the "wormgear housing" does not need to be perfectly round it can have 2x1 bricks with pinholes and longitudinal beams reinforcing it, so the base can be well supported and the cylinder be rigid enough, after all two concentric "cylinders" compose it. -

Efferman's Custom Parts
aol000xw replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was thinking In something like current LA Done this way So the only job of the metal rod is hold those parts in place. It could be hide with And it would not damage any part as it does not move. But part 3 needs to be done with custom parts, something similar to the one you linked but round and with matching grooves top and bottom so when stacked, the stack of parts turns as a whole. Then a cylinder holding the stack can be done with parts like this for example Or the more compact brick that I mentioned.... something roughly like... Excuse my awful modelling skills. As I said it is just an idea, don't know if its is worth further developing... -
Efferman's Custom Parts
aol000xw replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Reading some comments in the Jennifer Clark's Demag AC-50 Crane I was wondering how a big, "cheap", strong and of any length LA could be made, so I want to throw an idea. Threaded rods are readily available and cheap. So some ¿M4? perhaps hide inside a few parts like this one... .. and then a custom small part with pinhole threaded at one end of the rod and custom wormhole threaded at the other end of the rod could make the shaft? And this part with wormgear threading instead of cross axle so the wormgear could slide trough it. It would need to turn, so some casing -the cylinder- would be necessary but that could be achieved with current parts... Of course a custom 3x3 part could be designed to make the cylinder more compact with half pin holes on the sides. to reinforce with a beam on one side. I don't know if that would work, but something like that would allow any LA length as long as a suitable threaded rod were cut to appropiate length. -
[HELP] Legal Building Technique

Some techniques were used in the past and the time test proved them to be wrong, making them obsolete or illegal. -
MOC Sharing Dilemma
aol000xw replied to Cumulonimbus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You pretend to stand by the above ideal however If the above sentence is true what do you care about what others do? No matter how good you think your designs are, assuming that you are going to be copied is arrogant, and then are you vain enough to be worried about not getting recognition? Worst thing is being selfish enough to want the benefits of publishing MOCS like getting advice and learning but don't want to take any of the "risks". Not that considering there are "risks" is anything good either. An are you going to give recognition for every single idea you already took from others, perhaps over the years be it consciously or not? Summarizing: Bad boy. -

Generic Contest Discussion
aol000xw replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yup it is obviously outdated, as there are way more than six billion people and with a net growth of roughly 3 people per second vs more than 1000 parts per second that 62 figure is going up every day. I did like the idea for a contest, not really concerned with the exact number that only TLC can estimate at any given time... -

Generic Contest Discussion
aol000xw replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was procrastinating and by chance ended in the Wikipedia entry for Lego; a remark called my attention: "If all the Lego bricks ever produced were to be divided equally among a world population of six billion, each person would have 62 Lego bricks" So that could be a nice idea for a mini contest. What can you do with your 62 "bricks"? -

Pneumatic Cylinders Testing
aol000xw replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You are right when you said mineral oil I though of synthetic oil. My fault here. Anyways on this kind of application not a big amount is needed and silicon oil is the perfect oil for everything Lego. -

Mineral oil can react with ABS, use silicon oil instead.
