That's the best large police set I've seen in a while. It could also be more of a supplement to the previous large Police Station rather than a replacement. Plus the camper's awesome! We just need to lengthen that van by 3-4 studs and she'll have perfect proportions!

It's becoming a pattern that the Friends sets are the best darned things a city-building AFOL can buy , even though the new CITY Police is some of the best of it's kind I've seen in a while. I still have the old Friends bakery waiting to be MOC'ed in somewhere else, and the cupcake shop will be the best addition to that! And what does it mean when a Friends house set looks better and more substantial than a current CREATOR house?

Nice job! I believe your modular game is strong; interiors are super packed with detail, and the creepiness does add a story/twist.

The mods are great, and today's CREATOR houses is definitely scaled with the CITY buildings nowadays. Even the commercial buildings like the 31026 Bike Shop and the 31036 Toy Shop are like the CITY buildings now. IMO it's too bad because CREATOR houses used to be the suburban equivalent of the big $150 modular sets. And now the new $160-170 modular sets seem to be about 3/4ths the size of the old modulars like the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium. Oh well.

That is one epic piece, right there. The stage detail is something I have never seen before. Awesome job!

I also consider modulars to be de-facto "UCS" City sets. Also, the new Fairground theme in the CREATOR Expert line seems to fit the bill (one set is a truck that has 1700 pieces, LEGO 10244). Plus other UCS sets isn't exactly in scale with their Walmart/TRU-shelf brethren; Case in point, 10225 R2D2, 76023 Tumbler, 76042 Helicarrier.

This. This is what I want to do with my City when it gets big enough! Fantastic work!

There aren't as good looking as the first wave, IMO. The Mustang is the best, I think the headlight can be fixed by SNOTting a 1x2 cheese slope on the front instead of SNOTting a 2x2 curved on the side like they did here. I would also maybe lengthen the "fastback" by 1 or even 2 studs, the Mustang does not have a prominent notchback ( at least not 3-studs prominent). From the weird angle I think the Camaros look good, too. The Audis look like disasters without stickers

I think it's alright! If I had a gripe, it's the lack of unique colors. Totally common white, light bley and dark bley dominates, though we'll get all the 1x2x3 sand green windows we'll ever need. Oh, and that $169.99 USD tag, didn't expect that. It matches up so well with the DO's size and architecture style.

I like it lots---awesome job showcasing amazing choices of warm/earthy tones, making this MOC look ultra-realistic!

Huh. For a few days I thought someone was just necroposting the old Toy Shop thread, then boom, re-release. I don't mind it---in fact, if they had to re-release a Winter set I'm glad it was the Toy Shop. I remember the heartache it caused when the first one seemingly ran out of stock forever after its first winter release. People will get to experience the toy shop more = yay for those who missed out. Kinda not glad about the $20 price hike over the original, but oh well. Slightly off topic, wouldn't it be funny if we next see a modular Cafe Corner, re-released for $160, with interior bits?

Just some commentary --- I still literally see some 4429 Helicopter Rescue sets in some Wal-Marts in where I'm from, at clearance. Wasn't this discontinued like a year ago? lol. Not a mover like Fire/Poilce buildings (at $100+ they sure move in the local stores, I can't blame LEGO for rehashing them every year or so). I have pretty much lost all hope of seeing a full-size, $90-110 hospital being a city set in leagues with the latest and greatest Fire and Police buildings. But maybe Friends can do a take on a Hospital set? :classic:

Simple and nice, what's not to like?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
wooootles replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thank goodness I only MOC nowadays and therefore not dependent on official set themes to have fun with LEGO. All I care about is whether they would have new, useful bricks. Come on sand red, be mass-produced already! -
Hah, alright! I want to see how the Z06 and R8 compare to my MOC'd versions (whose techniques used and pieces are pre-Speed Champions) If I may be honest, I don't think the last Speed Champions cars were all that great looking as a whole. The 911 and the LaF were decent

Ah, thanks all! Finally got my LDD render up. As for the file, I unfortunately forgot my brickshelf password, so just PM me your email if you want a file (not 100% accurate but it's close)

Heh, I could do a better job of updating. Here's my next entry---my casual build that I planned was sidetracked for these. My version of a Rolls-Royce Phantom! 4-5.) MOC: Rolls-Royce Phantom (06/03/15) With an extended wheelbase, this car is almost as long as my pickup truck MOCs (same wheelbase), but these things are basically limousines anyway... Since I plan to do a hotel MOC soon I believe it's only right to step away from the supercars for a bit and add cars like these. I haven't had time to do a LEGO LDD Render! I'll update it when I can As usual, there are a few more images in the flickr folder so check it out. Thanks!

It's really not unusual for a CITY set to be hovering around $0.12 USD / piece. Here are some of the bigger summer sets that hovered around that mark (all before US sales tax): 60026 Town Square, 2013-2014, $119.99 / 914 pcs = $0.131 USD / pc 4207 CITY Garage, 2012-2014, $119.99 / 933 pcs = $0.128 USD / pc 8404 Public Transport, 2010-2011, $99.99 / 864 pcs = $0.116 USD / pc 7641 City Corner, 2009-2011, $59.99 / 483 pcs = $0.124 USD / pc Also, much of the numerous Fire/Police sets in the past few years have hovered around $0.12 USD / pc. Marvel/DC/other licensed sets can get away with around $0.15 USD / pc in some cases while CREATOR sets always tend to have lower price / piece on average. And since I restarted this hobby in 2009 I think the price/piece ratios have been rather stable. TL;DR: $0.112 USD / piece (before taxes) isn't bad and is a CITY set norm.

I NEEDED THIS Thanks very much for sharing this! This would work well very much on a park that I've been concepting!

Very nice stuff---I feel like modern buildings in the Modular MOC being rare and underappreciated in general (in favor of the rustic/antique/European look that most MOCs fall into), however I do like this; am a fan of the sliding doors, the concept and the greenery right behind it (this forum in general needs more trees !!! ) Good job

Review: 31036 Creator Toy and Grocery Shop 3-in-1
wooootles replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Town
I would have voted 8 / 10 for this, if it was labeled a CITY set. But as a CREATOR set, with all the expectations of a meaty build just short of a true CREATOR Expert Modular that comes along with the tag, I feel like this set fails, just because of how small in scale it is. Not a fan of the downward trend the new CREATOR house line has taken; hard to believe that this set's ancestors were the mighty 4954, 6754, and even the 31012 (I thought the 2015 beach house is a new low point) However as a parts pack it's not bad at all, just because of tan doors/windows and sand green (never enough for those!)... Actually I think the majority of the pieces in the set are good for using in a full-sized modular, or even for turning this set into a full modular. Overall, I'd buy it on sale and assimilate it immediately into my inventory... thanks for the review! -
Wandin Valley IGA Supermarket & True Value Hardware Store
wooootles replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Town
I do like the treys/stands for produce. Plus the scale is something I've never seen done before I'm contemplating doing a mini-mart (or a bakery) myself...- 14 replies

Nougat/tan---can't go wrong with that combo Although it's purely a personal choice, I'd rather not have the top floor fully tiled, to keep it open for addons

This is all good and inspirational---It's funny since the real cars have had so much aerodynamic research put into them, they all end up pretty much having the same profile more or less (which is to say, like the McLaren F1, master of aerodynamics IMO) It kinda makes me want to pull a Dubai and make cop cars for all the supercar designs, haha!
