Pretty cool! It's a tough shape to do but I think you did it justice

This is awesome, and also the main reason I will never have an airport in my town - lots of real estate needed for it to be great!

Minifig arms for an A-pillar? Clever!

Pretty intricate details, I like it. Any plans of turning it into reality?

I think it's time for me to start posting some finished LEGO work again, it's been a while Here's my latest creation - an LMP-style race car. Inspired by both the 60053 (which I found too stubby) and the upcoming Speed Champions line. It can sit minifigs upright. Since I'll probably buy some of the Speed Champions stuff I am contemplating moving my future car MOCs to full 6-wide body, as well. Also, it started off in LDD. Here's my POV-Ray render (and my current wallpaper) Here's the whole album with the full-size images! https://www.flickr.c...57650317055727/ Thanks for looking! I am looking for other CITY/Friends cars to modify. I gotta get my feet warm again before I post some of my bigger stuff!

Well, can we try to 'appraise' the individual components of 60097? -Auto dealer has a moderately sized 2-storey building, with 2 cars. $40-50 -Tow truck seems to be the same size as 60017. $20 -Tram has big rare pieces, I would say $30-35 -LEGO store + truck seems to be the same size as 3661 bank, minus 1 car. $40 -helicopter $10 -I could see the kiosks being $10 each, $20 total. Also reiterating 14 minifigs total. Add all those up, I'm looking at, at least, CREATOR expert modular level pricing! I can see why someone would be turned off by the pricing if they don't like some of the components. I don't care for the helicopter but fortunately I like what I see with the rest of 60097.

That City Square is actually a marvel. 14 minifigs? Since when was the last time town/CITY had that much? If I had a gripe, it would be a minor one: Like its predecessors (which I would consider 7641, 8404 and 60026) it seems to be a collection of $20-30 sets instead of a BIG set, thus it doesn't have the presence of, say, the Grand Hotel in the Friends summer line. Only Fire and Police (which is without question the main theme of CITY) gets such buildings. Wouldn't it be awesome if CITY had a "Financial District" set with one building that towered over the rest of the CITY buildngs, had coffee shops, hotdog stands and buses/cars to compliment it? But I might actually buy one of these guys! Divers look ok. No care for rest of CITY,

Grand Hotel's width (40-wide!) and high floor-ceiling ratio makes it fit in better with the big CREATOR Expert modulars than other CITY/Friends buildings. Why couldn't CITY have anything of this scale (that isn't a Police Station)?
-
That hotel may easily be the best looking (top 5 at least) LEGO building set that isn't a 10xxx modular. Wow! The color scheme isn't screaming I AM FOR GIRLY GIRLS either! Friends sets impresses me more and more (IMHO their only dud is the jungle theme)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
wooootles replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Didn't have time to reread some of the posts since DO's unveiling, but if we can consider that a Police building then it's time for a commercial, corner building: CC - commercial, corner GG - retail, residential FB - govt GE - commercial, corner PS - retail, residential TH - govt PC - commercial, corner PR - retail, residentail DO - govt I do like the idea of a corner bank some of you guys are saying. -
I really do believe that none of the modular buildings are 'bad' or even 'okay'; they're all unique masterpieces. That said, I do have to give a shoutout to my personal favorites: 1. Green Grocer - pulled me from a decade of not caring about LEGO. It's got to be my #1 just because of that. Still my favorite in terms of interior, exterior, color and pieces. 2. Cafe Corner - GG may have pulled me from the dark ages, but CC definitely put LEGO back in my radar. Even though it has literally the worst interior (read: none, lol), it still has one of the more unique exteriors. This set definitely changed the way I, and I would assume most town MOCers build their buildings. Game changer. 3. Parisian Restaurant - It's like Green Grocer's rebirth, but slightly smaller. My favorite of the "CREATOR Expert" era. 4. Grand Emporium - It's the most commercial set out there, and that's bonus points for me. IMO it's the most expandable set without it looking weird. And I like all the others too, though I won't find them being put into my city. I enjoy MOCing more than building from the instructions. I only have GG and CC built from the instructions, and not part of my planned city (more like some weird legacy thing on standalone displays).

A CREATOR town set with buildings much smaller than CITY buildings... that's a first, especially from a line that once looked good and proportional back in the day next to the Cafe Corners and green Grocers. Back in the day CREATOR sets didn't need to be bought in pairs to look up to par FRIENDS retail building sets look more substantial.

Very nice! I've been dying to get my hands on those sets (for a good price), but your modular interpretation is nothing short of awesome. Your PAB wall is pretty good too. Cheers!

City Layout - Inspired by Los Angeles, California
wooootles replied to parrafilmsguy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm a big fan of skyscrapers. I like your interpretation of the LA buildings. The US bank tower looks just as imposing in your city! Any plans of doing Little Tokyo and the Concert Hall? -
CITY release pattern: Police Fire Police Police This doesn't even belong in the city Fire Fire Police Fire Something mildly interesting Police Repeat Everything is awesome! Meanwhile, it has long been since we've had this decade's interpretation of 6561 (but thanks L@go), 6543, any decent Gas station that is of 6472's scale. I'm not even asking for "AFOL themed" buildings like restaurants or stores (unfortunately that's covered by Friends already, and a certain $150+ line). Guess building a police state is what the kids are up to nowadays But we can't even have a decent Fast-and-Furious style underground racing bit if they so like releasing Police sets every year (too realistically criminal?)

This is an awesome building --- the interior in particular is classy as heck. 10/10 I might even have to steal some of your ideas there
-
Wow, nice! The interior colors are so soothing! And I really admire the way you were able to pack everything that's in there in a 16x16 space!

Hello guys! I have a few updates regarding my (somewhat relative) absence and lack of new MOCs. Basically I'm just gearing back up to build some more LEGO. A few factors that stopped my progresses: -Moving to a new apartment: I had to prioritize my finances, and when it's all said and done LEGO isn't as high as other real-life priorities. -The apartment is smaller: I had grand plans for a grand district, but that's on hold for now -10243: My next MOC was to be a restaurant, and not as big as my other building MOCs, but the release of 10243 blew me away and am now struggling to top it On hold indefinitely! -I moved downtown. I see more downtown/urban/city-like buildings more frequently now, and I have to say my earlier building MOCs doesn't measure up anymore. Several things will need to happen to my older MOCs: legohouse14 by wooootles, on Flickr - Tearing this one down. Wasabi District is a downtown-like city, and with space being valuable (in my LEGO district and in real life ) it's out of place unfortunately. I'll draw up something to replace it in LDD, to enter in the contest, though! pizza2 by wooootles, on Flickr - Will tear this one down, but will be remade. It's basically the look of the buildings where I live right now (and where I got the inspiration), but I've got access to new colors and pieces now. This one was made pre-bricklink. eaglebar1 by wooootles, on Flickr - Tearing this one down. My 3rd building MOC, its style, color, presence and purpose is basically taken over by my much more awesomer Avenue Residences. Midtown Condo 1 by wooootles, on Flickr - Will tear this one down, but will be remade. "OMG this is my crown jewel MOC!" Was my first thought, but living in a downtown apartment now, and seeing the way it's built, made me rethink this MOC. After all, it doesn't even have a full interior, and the 3x1 baseplate setup is too unwieldy (See apartment space issues). I will cut this down to perhaps 1x2 baseplates, same as Avenue and Barnes and Noble, but maybe raise its height, and add many, many more amenities. There. Basically my issue is all about cost and space (which is pretty much among the top issues when it comes to real life). This move will gain me 10,000+ building-appropriate pieces to play with. All in all, I'm just playing with LEGO, and I didn't use any Kragle on any of my MOCs so it's all good. Who knows, maybe a year or two for now, Avenue and Barnes and Noble may be staring down the wrecking ball also? Oh, and thanks for supporting my CUUSOO project - a 4600-piece monster is always a tough business case but thanks for the vote of confidence anyway!

Store in Nashville didn't have it in stock 2 weeks ago.

Nice set! This is probably the modular to unseat GG in my head as the best looking modular of all time. Best interiors in the line, rarest colors in the line (at time of release), best rear view of the line. $10 increase is nothing; it has more pieces than everything else save TH, and still ringing close to 0.066 cents/piece. Cheap, when you think about it LOL! Still keeping track... 2007 - CC - business/corner 2008 - GG - business/residential 2009 - FB - govt 2010 - GE - business/corner 2011 - PS - business/residential 2012 - TH - govt 2013 - PC - business/corner 2014 - PR - business/residential 2015 - hmmm

Yes! This is awesome. Finally my sports cars will have proper, low-profile tires! I do hope they come in black, though.

Awesome! Congrats to all the winners, and congratulations to all who participated! :D I was there on last year's event and had a blast---I imagine this year's event had no shortage of fun! Maybe I'll make it again next year
