Welcome to a new addiction! Luckily, if you pick the right thing to collect, your collection will grow in value, if not, you'll still have an enjoyable collection. Welcome to the club

I think we can probably keep the dream alive a bit longer than the information of a friend who went on an inside tour. OK, I've not yet committed to this inside tour, but just hearing and reading bits on this forum, if there was even just the most remote chance they would have divulged this kind of information to your friend, your friend would have had to sign a legally binding non disclosure agreement, so I personally can't see it. They would have most likely just said no, but they were never likely to tell him even if there was. I don't think the inside tour covers the new set design building, on the TV that place was more secure than Fort Knoxx, so the chance of him seeing anything that was not already known about…..slim I'd think. But lets keep positive, maybe they will surprise us next summer? Paul

Could be wrong, but makes you wonder if the fire truck is not cancelled, but will end up being a TRU exclusive or something like this? This catalogue is more of a retailers catalogue, there is no sign of the exclusive sets like the new modular bank, and even some of the City sets are missing, (actually another small fire truck is missing) I think this happened before with the Technic racing truck.

I save every box as well, I do regret as a child, I had an idea to save some space, I cut the back and fronts off the old 80's boxes, and kept just them. A bit like my mistake of hold punching some instructions……seemed like such a good idea at the time! I do agree with some peoples comments, storage space is really becoming an issue.

Hey dude, I saw your models up at brick at the weekend, and I you were looking tired on the Saturday afternoon policing that line of kids waiting for a go. It looked like that queue was not going down at all! Real crowd pleaser Paul

Review: 71173 LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack (Xbox 360)
paul_delahaye replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I might pick this up at some point, I just have concerns about the long term future of a game like this. I appreciate the likes of WOW have their regular followers, I'm just not sure people are going to spend £500 on a complete set, and then buy more and more figures over the next couple of years as they come out. I hope it's a success, but a little bit of me thinks it might be better not to get sucked into this one.- 15 replies

LEGO Early Discontinuation?
paul_delahaye replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I never really understood this, makes sense if a product is end of life, or they want to sell off the old one before they release a new version/successor product, but with this train, we've all been patiently waiting and nothing? It would to me have made more sense to keep selling the old one at full price rather than discount it? at least until they have a replacement? weird -
I agree, I personally could not believe how quickly that limited Technic 4 x 4 crawler set sold out. I ordered mine at midnight, on the day it was released. And it was gone the next day. I really thought that one at that price point would have taken a while to sell out, I did not think there would be 20'000 people queuing up buy that set on day one. It's not like 10'000 of those people were buying it for a bricklink investment, as there is only around 100 for sale on there. The only other set which sold really well, was the Santa Fe Super Chief limted train set from the early 2000's. I think they made 10'000 of them, and they went very quickly, which is odd as not that many people then purchased the additional carriages, as they were sold off cheap. And then of course, there is the impossible Mr Gold…….Where did they all go to?

What 2016 Themes/Sets Are You Most Hyped For?
paul_delahaye replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Apart from that Bank, Mixels and the Technic sets which I always buy, next year is not doing wonders for me, I'm now holding out for the 2nd half year sets. I'm even starting to wonder how long I can justify buying the collectable minifigures, they are great, but the novelty factor is wearing thin. The City sets really disappoint me next year, there is one or two small ones. but that's it.- 64 replies

I looked into Chroming some bricks a while back that the sellers on bricklink did not have available, a seller Chrome Block City in Poland offered for me to send him the specific bricks I needed in chrome, and for a price he would chrome them and return them. I never got around to getting this done, but seems the option is out there. Paul

Lego are really missing a trick selling a box of 50 or a100 pieces of straight track in one box, I'm sure this would go down well with Adults and children alike.

100%, always a set backlog, and as many have said, it's usually down to storage space. I reckon around 5 to 10 of varying sizes is normal for me

Good job everyone, a tough building challenge this one, I'm slightly in awe at the scale of the 2nd place Harbour crane!

EB Xmas Raffle 2015 - Your ideal Christmas tree entry thread
paul_delahaye replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Town
After seeing the amazing designs I feel like i've let the side down with my primary colour tree! I just don't know were you get your inspiration from! Luckily thanks to CopMike, it's a random draw! Good luck everyone -
I actually think the Lego stores are becoming more generic, in the old days they used to each have a unique benefit. Kingston always had unique items in their pick a brick wall, and sold the old bags of mixed bricks nice and cheap. When that one closed, my nearest was Bluewater, which I went to a couple of times a year. I got some great finds in their pick a brick wall, and they used to have a discounted section at the back of the store, but since the store moved from down stairs to the 1st floor, I think it became a lot more generic. For me now, the Watford store is my favourite, it's quite a small store, but the staff are always friendly, parking is cheap and it's easy to get to without the traffic hassle of central london. I'll sometimes pop up to the Stratford store if I have a travel card and am in London, but that shopping centre is always so busy. I really detest the pick a brick wall at Milton Keynes, they only have a small wall, so to make up they mix 2 or 3 styles of brick in each pick a brick hole, Which is a real pain if you want to pick one style of brick. For me the pick a brick walls used to be the draw for the different stores, they would vary from store to store, but now the pick a brick wall contents is more based around the bricks required for the kids monthly make, most stores pick a brick walls are the same which is a shame. I'm only into a couple of themes, mainly City, Train and Technic. City, they are just playing it safe all the time. I can understand they sell Police and Fire, a bit more variety might help, but I can't see this changing any time soon. Train, they are almost letting this theme die, ok, they have kind of attached it onto City, which makes sense, but there does not seem to be any real dedication to this theme in the last few years Technic, the second half of the year is always exceptional, but the first half almost appears like they are releasing sets for the sake of releasing them as this is what they did last year. I don't doubt one of two of the 1st half sets will be good, but usually nothing to write home about. As for your question on declining on originality. It could just be that we are all getting older and they are making more and more sets which appeal to kids rather than their smaller demographic of AFOLS. Although you cannot doubt in the last 5 years they have made some exceptional AFOL sets which kids would never have been able to afford.

So Many Lego 'Themes' - Where is TLG headed?
paul_delahaye replied to DrJB's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I kind of agree with what has been said above, if your not interested, you don't buy it. I personally don't get some themes, I think it's all to do with age? I completely missed Pokemon as an example. I totally don't get it. And I think some of the Lego themes are the same. I don't understand Ninjago, but it appears to be a strong brand/theme. Is there a risk of a repeat of the early 2000's? I think the world has changed, I don't think Lego will end up in that senario again, I think it stands the test of time, and the way it can be passed down through the generations, although I was a little worried when I saw those oversized Star Wars figures with the funny heads, it did bring back memories of Galidor! Hopfully these will sell better for the collectors of Star Wars?
