Amzaing, great way to spend a weekend. Worth the price of sending her away! -
Which 9v freight train set would you prefer 4564 vs 4563 ?
paul_delahaye replied to jaesroe's topic in LEGO Train Tech
4564 is epic, such great cars and very playable. It would be my choice if only 1 could be picked. However 4563 is Epic and basically along with Metroliner, the start of 9v trains. There should in theory be more of these available on the second hand market, and at a better price. (which Bricklink confirms). For any collector, the start of a theme is linked to these 2 trains. (and maybe the Crocodile engine) -
Loving the balloon ferris wheel, I've been wanting to get a few of those balloons, hoping they offer them as a standard Lego City set as well in the futue.

Where is the love for exo-suit?
paul_delahaye replied to TakeaBrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
They still had them on the shelf of the Watford Lego store just a week ago. Paul -
The tricky bit is knowing whether Lego will release another set in the future using those Tan Train Window frames………If they do, likely these would be about 50p to buy from Lego directly, however how long do you wait. I built an extra 3 carriages, and they were not cheap as you say, Blue 1 x 2 x 3 train windows are also killer expensive when I needed 14 of them. Paul

How do you build your Lego sets?
paul_delahaye replied to Wonderpants's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I tip them all out and hunt for the bricks during the build steps, I find this adds to the build experience, now as an adult, some of the sets would just be speed builds if I just used the numbered bags. I especially do this on the flagship technic sets, 2000+ pieces, makes the build last 8 - 10 hours usually. -
Portsmouth (UK) Lego Show - 23rd May 2015

Sorry to hear this David, was looking forward to this. Hope you have more luck in the future finding an alternative venue. Paul -
For me, if it does not say Technic on the Box, (or expert Builder) it's not Technic. I totally appreciate it's made of 99% Technic parts, so many would say it's Technic, but to me this is part of the Racers theme. I have to draw a limit as I'm running out of storage space, so this is my view on the product category. Paul

Lego set import charge tax to UK from Australia?
paul_delahaye replied to jaesroe's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is an interesting topic and one that has annoyed me on several purchases I've made from the USA and been charged VAT and the Dreaded Post Office stealth charge. If the bricklink seller is running his shop as a business, purchased the goods from his supplier and reclaimed the local state Tax, then yes I can understand when he sells it to me, I should pay VAT at the full rate value of the goods. However, if I buy from a private seller, (who has not been able to reclaim any Tax on his original purchase and is unlikely to be declaring his earnings from his shop in his tax return) and he is selling a product which he paid $20 when new, but due to supply and demand of a discontinued product, he has managed to get me to pay him $200 for a now second hand product, it is frustrating that most of the time, the seller wants to declare the goods at $200. when the true value of the goods is $20 (What he paid for it). I then end up paying tax on a product which has already had tax paid on it once, but at a much higher rate. I'm sure a HMRC tax expert will be along in a minute to corret me, but just my opinion. Loved this set, got it for birthday/Christmas back in the 90's It did have a design flaw I recall with the steering on the tractor unit. When playing with the set, pushing too hard on the cab caused something on the steering to pop apart. It's still a great set all the same and one that brings back great memories. I took mine apart and cleaned the dust of the bricks last year. Paul

and now it's more a sequal to the Caroselle ride than the mixer. Massive disappointment from my side, I'd really hoped yesterday's picture was a prototype, the colours are just weak IMO. I really wanted it to pack down onto another truck,
-
this is great information, and totally plausable based on the lack of anything we have heard so far. Although I can't help but be a little disappointed if true that it does not pack onto a truck, this travelling fair idea could have been a great long term theme, even at 8 wide trucks, I can imagine the limitations it also places on the designers.

I keep hinting to my local toy shop that has some of those oversized bricks and some of the oversized minifigures, that they need a new home,

I've just finished my build today, and I like the set, however I'm not sure if I built the set wrong or whether you may have missed a pin during the build, but I only had 4 of the black technic friction pins left over at the end of my build? All other spares were the same

Stickers are the most annoying thing ever, The models often need them now days to look finished, but the are such poor quality, the cost difference between 1980's stickers which are still stuck to all my bricks, and current day stickers must be minimal, but the old stickers can easily still be warmed up and removed or repositioned, LEGO should so go back to these. but on the other hand, they have also proved they can print onto almost anything now, even trans clear glass in the detective agency, so anything is possible, they should do this for more expensive collector sets.

Your thoughts on "cutting lego" ?
paul_delahaye replied to Breakdown's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So how did you actually cut the notch? Did you file it in the end or Circular saw it? I don't know I could bring myself to do this, but I can certainly see how well the outcome is, and it makes you wonder why LEGO don't make this plate modifier in this way. -
I bought this set from my local Woolworths years ago, for £40, when I got it home, the bucket was missing from the box, in those days, Woolworths used to remove the contents of high value toys from the box, and just display the empty boxes on the shelves, when they sold me the set, they had lost the bucket, No email/websites or bricklink back then, but LEGO still replaced it with a freindly letter

Very tidy colour scheme, must have taken ages to get in all those details.
