LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
parksroad replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Tonight there was exactly one Series 12 bag in a box for something else at my Walgreens, so I picked it up without checking what it was. Turned out to be the swashbuckler, and his chest printing was just fine! I'm quite happy with this one. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that he rang up at $4.49 before tax. At that rate, I'm likely to just ebay the remaining few figs that I want; the markup isn't even that bad at this point.- 1,109 replies

General questions about buying LEGO in the US
parksroad replied to Ojik's topic in General LEGO Discussion
To compare one example, in the UK, VAT is included in listed prices, but it's a higher percentage than US sales tax. There are also Council taxes for your home and income taxes are at a higher level, although there are much more extensive public services. The tax situation in the US isn't unique, it's just different to navigate. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
parksroad replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm really bad at this. I often find myself thinking that some small roundish thing is hair or a hat and realizing it's the head, or thinking I've found a tile and realizing it's the generic 4x3 base.- 1,109 replies

General questions about buying LEGO in the US
parksroad replied to Ojik's topic in General LEGO Discussion
According to the internet, NYC sales tax on "most personal property" is 8.875%, which would be on top of the listed price. And a lot of retail is marked up in Manhattan to begin with. -
FWIW, this thread has got me thinking again about how much I'd like something like "Pleygo" (the LEGO Netflix) if it were good. There are lots of sets and types of sets that I'd like to try out and build and experience, but that I really don't feel the need to keep around my house and don't want to lay out a lot of cash for. Hmm...

In addition to the other great suggestions, you could do something like limiting yourself to minifigs or ~10 dollar/pound/euro/your local currency-type sets. You get that "hey, new LEGO!" feeling, you can build it quickly and mess with it, and then put it away without having to rearrange anything in your life. Maybe partially disassemble and put in a ziploc bag. And if what you have is feeling like a huge mass of stuff you never use, then yeah, it's probably time to donate or sell some. If you don't want to sort, sell in bulk lots. It will free up some space and maybe make you feel like there's room for newer stuff you want.

FWIW, the Exo Suit appears to be in stock on the Target website in the US.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
parksroad replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Indeed! I was thinking that since the Modulars had included a fire station the police station was inevitably next. The Fire Brigade was great but I was a bit less interested in the idea of a police station. This sounds like it could be a fantastic, fresh way to do that. If it's true. By the way, the October LEGO store calendar mentions a new exclusive set being unveiled. Any chance it could be the next modular, whatever it is? -
Ooh! It's up now!

If the set is built I just take it apart. Then I can make sure all the pieces are really there and maybe clean them up a bit anyway ;-)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
parksroad replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Another thing to remember is that say, UK prices already include VAT, while in the US sales tax varies by region and so is not yet reflected in the advertised price. Where I live "$2.99" means paying about $3.30 to actually walk out of the store with that figure, while $3.99 sticker price actually means $4.40. Still not quite equal, but not as bad a discrepancy as it looks on paper.- 1,109 replies

Wow! The other day when it was Out of Stock I assumed they were going to be making more.

I'm the big LEGO fan at my house, and even I don't *really* like it when my partner builds sets on the dining table (I guess I'm also a big fan of dining, at tables)... although I do appreciate that this only further enables my LEGO habit.

Love all the microbuilds, especially the dinosaur skeleton. I prefer it brick-built, but I'm old-fashioned I guess. Will definitely be picking up a couple of these.

60054 Light Repair Truck. Fantastic little set; I've never been much for City because I was always more excited by action themes but I may be branching out...

BSB is the most prominently displayed set in my apartment (really the only one most visitors see) and people love it, whether they're into Lego or not. It's that classic, it goes with everything.

Lovely! The in-progress shots really show off the details of your ships.

Whoa, just clicked through to the flickr album - this is incredible work!!! The interior detail is stunning.

ReBrick "Name the Ship" Contest - and the WINNER IS...
parksroad replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hm. I'm tentatively excited, although what's sticking out of the box looks like a revamp of Brickbeard's Bounty which was itself a revamp of BSB. The way the sail is attached and that crow's nest make me think it's an actual design... -
The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
parksroad replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I found Cloud Cuckoo Palace on the shelves of City Target. Guessing that collectors/resellers maybe head to the big suburban ones to stock up? Or maybe things have just settled down.- 2,626 replies
