  1. That's a good point--little bit of a risk, but, the buyer protections are always there to catch you. Hmm. Maybe you shouldn't have told us about this ;-)
  2. Yes :) I just mean there's a real lack of an adventure theme or any classic themes. Sets that don't require a TV show to make sense. City is kind of the main attraction.
  3. ...although having said I really like this series, I've got to say I don't understand Where's My Pants guy. Granted kids will think it's hilarious
  4. Wow, those towers are beautiful!
  5. Wow, that is impressive. Closer to the real thing and much sturdier
  6. Awesome. Now which monster does he get to fight?
  7. Yeah, eBay shopping is a skill but not a difficult one. Read people's feedback (skim the comments) and filter your results to your home country only. Also never bid on a listing that only has stock photos. I've had great luck getting discontinued Lego sets, clothing, candlesticks, shoes, briefcases . . .
  8. Interesting. Any sign of the Destroyers yet?
  9. Bah, I had almost convinced myself to save cash and only buy small sets this year and then that Brickset review has put this firmly back on my shopping list. Happy holidays to me
  10. Now THAT is a cool thought....
  11. The Chinese Theater in Los Angeles is pretty much one of a kind. A lot of the older theaters still around in California are Art Deco, newer ones are the nondescript suburban stucco (or whatever) I've seen all across the country. I'd have to second the idea that San Francisco is certainly a city with enough diversity in architecture to contain all of these buildings...
  12. I'm really pleased with this series. Lots of the characters have a lot of crossover appeal--you wouldn't have to see the movie to recognize them. I had sort of been worried this might not be the case.
  13. Also withholding judgment until I see the alternate models. I wonder if it will be more like a Creator total rebuild or if there's some kind of transformer-style play feature.
  14. Yeah, there's not really much of a story, mainly pictures of sets with lots of minifigs in action poses. It was this sort of teasing "The End --- or IS IT?!!" that lets them re-open it if they want to, but didn't really promise much or suggest a new direction...
  15. Am I wrong in thinking that City (and Friends/Creator, which seem a little separate in my mind) is the only theme we've heard about for 2014 with no TV/movie tie-in?
  16. Nice! thanks for the heads up. Anybody see the comic in the last Lego Magazine? Kind of looks like they're wrapping up the GS storyline.
  17. Three cheers! Still the best pirate ship, and this is a brilliant expansion upon it!
  18. Haha I was totally thinking time cruisers when I saw the trailer. Aaand here we go.
  19. Nice I just had a huge bucket of basic bricks at first. When I realized at about age ten that there was so much more than that my mind was blown...
  20. It seems hard to imagine a childhood without LEGO, but did anybody here become an AFOL without ever being a CFOL? I've recently bought a couple of the sets that I wanted but never got as a kid and wondered how much nostalgia has to do with keeping LEGO as an adult. There's certainly enough (modular buildings, Architecture, Creator, all the big exclusive sets) to get an adult interested even if they never had LEGO as a kid. If you weren't a fan of LEGO as a kid, what brought you here?
  21. Ok not much but I got an old 6899 Nebula Outpost - one of those little sets I always wanted as a kid and never picked up. I love all the neon translucent parts and wanted a small-ish space build that wasn't just a ship (i.e., a station of some kind). Love it, especially the brick-built telescope on top. Despite the negative comments about that set, I was always most interested in building sets and carefully positioning the minifigs for display, so I don't mind if it's a bit fragile. Also got a couple of the S11 minifigs, because I can't help it. Gingerbread Man and Welder.
  22. Yeah, I like that the engines stick out--more of an Original Trilogy aesthetic Also really like the sort of fan-design of the front.
  23. Isn't ten sets a lot to be up for consideration all at once? I seem to remember only four or so being up at once previously. In that case, even though it's surprising to see 90% of the sets fall by the wayside, Lego is still producing CUUSOO sets at about the same rate. It's just that more people have heard of CUUSOO so more projects are hitting the 10k mark. Possibly.
  24. Maybe, but it *sounds* potentially awesome?
