Oh my. Is that a row of museum cases? Is this in a museum? Cuz that belongs in a museum. <pulls out hat, whip>

I paid kind of a lot (for me anyway) to buy and restore one of these. It was my favorite back when and my parents gave it to my cousin's kids when I wasn't looking...

Well, a town hall in real life is often set apart in a plaza or square of some kind. Maybe the restaurant can be down the street

I dunno, I see girls discouraged from taking an interest in cars or firefighters... -
Quality of service at LEGO stores.
parksroad replied to Gatthekid's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I never have my VIP card and they always just look up my e-mail address, no problem. Been to LEGO stores in California and Florida and they not only invite me to take the survey but always write their names at the bottom of the receipt in case I wanted to mention them (I always do :) Just shows that they take pride in their level of service. -
I was a big Star Wars fan as a kid and then when I came out of my dark ages I hardly recognized any of the supposed Star Wars sets. Too much effort to figure out what it all was and where it came from. Not sure how I feel about Disney Wars either but we've safely forgotten those "Return to Endor" tv movies so I imagine things will sort themselves out in the end...

I prefer the new red car to the orange one, which looks unfinished to me. -
There's something odd and charming about the buildings being asymmetrical like that. If you think about it being roughly half as many bricks as the Pet Shop (and remember the Pet Shop had that cutesy "unfinished" apartment to make up for its lack of interior in most of the reddish building) it actually does seem like a convincing 1000-piece set, to my mind anyway. I wonder what 1000 pieces applied to just one building would look like in an official set...

I think I can see a bit more interior details through the windows--maybe a ceiling light? Liking the barbecue and little roof garden; now I'm even more intrigued to see a photo of the insides of these things...

Thanks. Yeah, the Riddler's vehicle is a little lame, but the Batmobile!

New Action Themes for 2014?
parksroad replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Right? I was in a dark age during the first Agents, so I'll be taking a closer look at these -
I don't keep all of my sets built, so if I feel like putting something together there are tons of disassembled sets in my toolbox I can choose from. I also take something else apart at the same time, so I don't need to buy a new set to have a nice build to appreciate. Since most of my sets are disassembled most of the time, I tend to forget the little details and enjoy re-discovering them. Of course there's nothing like opening a new box for the first time, but I think carefully about what any new set will add to my collection: is this car really different from the ones I have? Is this building nicer than the one I have? Can I just mod something I already have to get some detail I admire in a new set? This keeps me pretty happy, and keeps LEGO from taking over my life and my living space, which honestly wouldn't make me very content in the end...

EDIT: Whoops, just realized it's right there on the outside, on the side that's out of view on the box front.

I really like that the fold-up buildings give multiple options for a street scene. Does the last alternate build have a staircase piece coming down out of the right side? If so, I wonder if that's in the interior of the main model somewhere.

I thought I'd heard somewhere that they eventually swapped them out during the initial run. The Lego Legends re-release doesn't have them

The Parisian Restaurant is just fantastic. Sometimes you can get a lucky deal on ebay, but sometimes it's more expensive than bricklink, so look around. If there was a set you always wanted as a kid and could never have, or that you had and it was given away when you got older, it's often really great to track one down as an adult

Always my favorite! Does yours have the spring-shooting cannons?

Lovely! I want to go to a cinema like that for real...

CMF Emmet! Aw, he's so happy looking . . .

Yes--I also got the 4-stud version instead of the 2-stud piece pictured in the instructions. It's not noticeable at all once you put the 1x4 tiles over the studs anyway (and maybe the better grip on the tiles is why they were switched?) But it certainly threw me at first, and I had to check the inventory to make sure there was only one kind of 1x4 fence piece in the set.

Yeah, that's about the age when kids feel too old to be kids and are hunting desperately for acceptance/superiority to childish things. Some handle it more gracefully than others.

Pleygo: Netflix styled Lego Rental?
parksroad replied to Legononymous's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Not to drag up an old thread but I was just looking this over. There are a lot of bigger/older sets I'd like to build and I can't buy all of them, and $15 or $25 a month isn't a lot, really... Has anybody used this? -

Oh, hm. Somehow I wouldn't have thought the Bike Shop would be a "House"? Nevertheless, heading over there as well!
