(I searched and didn't find a similar topic in the first 5 pages of results, so here goes.) When I was a kid, I'd open up all the bags in a new set, dump them all out into the flip-lid box, then root through them for the next few hours all while building the set. A few decades later, shortly after coming out of the dark ages with the Architecture line, I bought the UCS R2-D2 set and discovered numbered bags. My first thought was how cool it was, and how much easier it was to build a larger set without having to search through hundreds or even thousands of pieces. Heck, a few months later, I was actually upset when Tower Bridge DIDN'T have numbered bags... But now, I'm not so sure I like them any more because smaller and smaller sets are being broken up into numbered bags. Recent examples I found egregious were 75015 Corporate Alliance Tank Droid which has 2 numbered bags for 271 pieces and 75003 A-Wing which actually has 3 numbered bags for only 177 pieces! Am I the only one who finds this trend somewhat disturbing? LEGO has always been about encouraging creativity and flexibility, and somehow this just seems like a dumbing down of the product. As I said, for large sets with thousands of pieces, it doesn't bother me. It even makes sense. But for sets under 500 parts, it doesn't seem right. Does anyone else feel the same, or am I overreacting?

As a kid, probably Galaxy Explorer. I don't remember how many weeks of delivering papers it took me to save up for it, but it was quite a few. As an adult, I'm not as sure. I really love the way the UCS B-Wing looks on my dresser, though.

Do you know how bad the resolution is for the GG instructions online at LEGO.com? I ordered the wrong quantities of two different parts because I thought the black 1x1 plate was a tile and I thought the black 1x1 tile was a plate. Yeesh. I got three orders from TLG today, and was able to start assembling the ground floor, but I'm still missing lots of tiles, so I couldn't go too far. I did finish my TH tonight, too. With three buildings, it's finally starting to look a bit like a street.

Yeah, I started by printing out the 3 pages from the instruction book that show the parts list, looking through my loose parts and crossing off anything I had enough parts on hand. Then, armed with that, and the knowledge which parts were considered rare, expensive, or difficult to source, ordered those parts, plus those lots were utilized in the first few steps between BL, BnP and PAB, and crossed those off. I hit my local LEGO stores next and raided the PAB walls and just the minimum minifig accessories needed. From there, I started adding parts to my wanted list on BL and using the 'by shops' function to order as many things from as few stores as possible.

Darth Revan minifig (and other May the 4th promotions)
rollermonkey replied to Debricker's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That would be the fastest turnover from winner to release if it was. Although the set as designed looked ready for release, I cannot imagine TLG not tweaking it at least a little. The only thing listed for May in the 2014 Press Guide is the Simpsons minifigs. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Picked up the Modular Town Hall, (double-point promotion!) and the manager sought me ought to say she was glad to see me picking it up before it retires. At this point, if PS goes first, I'll be pretty much shocked. -
Nah, pram isn't exclusively British, as far as I know. I think it's just a word that isn't used very much any more like baby carriages or parasols. When I think of prams, I think old-fashioned, like baby Herman in Roger Rabbit or the ones seen in Tom and Jerry or Lady and the Tramp. Now everybody gets an umbrella stroller or one that the baby carrier clicks into the top, instead.

Good, as I think the wood grained pieces make it look too much like there are windows that have been boarded up... Not sure that's a look you want, unless you have hooligans and/or thieves in your town?

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Before y'all pile on... the original suggestion was for a brown Maggie Simpson part for the Jawas, I didn't realize that they'd made a new torso/feet for her instead of using blue kids legs, and had used regular minifig legs again. I still say that fitting that part into the control positions for the 'crawler or speeder is reason enough to not do so. -
The position and future of Friends and minidolls in Lego?
rollermonkey replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Just remember: These were the original minifigures: TLG has come a long way since I used to play with these guys. I could definitely see a future where LEGO figure design meets somewhere between minifigs and minidolls, and I'd be OK with that, even if it means we'd need the thousandth iteration of Luke Skywalker. -
Ah well then. I kept getting to 32 and losing track, and I thought I was half-way across. :)

I'm starting to wish I had done BL orders instead of BnP / PAB for the parts in the first few steps... I didn't expect such great, QUICK service from BL, especially compared to TLG, but there you go. 253/311 lots in hand, and cannot start level 2 or 3, and can't proceed past step 2 on level one. :(

I keep going cross-eyed trying to count... How many studs is that base? I think it's 64x64... Is that right?

Darth Revan minifig (and other May the 4th promotions)
rollermonkey replied to Debricker's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Oh! I was thinking that you meant April 17th! That's intriguing. Narrowing it down, I don't follow many themes apart from the Modular Buildings, Architecture and Star Wars, and it isn't one of those three... Some searching has found these suggestions: Either a Creator Expert Mini Cooper (to replace the VW minivan) or a fairground set. (Possibly a waltzer ride as sequel to the Creator Expert carousel) -
LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I've got like 4 or 5 unopened Clone Lieutenants on my desk right now. :) You could always BL some brown (or reddish-brown) kid's legs and try it out. I definitely agree that since we know Jawas are little that they should use short legs, but then you can't put them in seated positions in the control room or on the 'speeder' cart. I'm guessing that particular restriction is the reason they have regular minifig legs. -

Should be Sandcrawler -
There's one on there with 321 supporters in a year, and although yours looks a lot better, they actually brick-built theirs...

Suggestion? On the ground floor, you could put a pair of side-by-side dressing rooms, still using the capes for curtains, but with brick wall sides, you wouldn't need to bend the curtain rod, so you could run one rod straight across both openings.

What are your Lego Star Wars collecting habits?
rollermonkey replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I buy what I like. Preference is OT stuff, but there have been some really interesting sets from other areas, like the Sith Fury-class Interceptor was just too cool to pass up. Oddly, unlike most folks, I don't actually care about MF, though. (If they make a new UCS one, I'll jump on it, as I love the UCS line.) -
