Absolutely agree that the first two do nothing for me... I do think GG is a decent starting point, though.

MOC SR-71 Blackbird, would love feedback!

Way to glom on to someone's thread asking for feedback on a MOC to advertise selling your own. :/ -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
rollermonkey replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I never quite understood the fascination many AFOLs have with these, but having just set the second level on my GE, I'm definitely understanding it now. They really do look pretty fantastic in your own hands. At least I have some catching up to do before I run into the problem of having to wait for the next year's set. (Not too much though, what with FB arriving tomorrow and only one BL order left to be invoiced on my GG. TH will be an April 1st buy for double points, which will get my balance to over 1000 points towards a suddenly very affordable PS.) I ought to be caught up by Summer at that rate. -
(Like) ^ Button pressed. I'm doing the second level of my GE tonight once the wee one is in bed.

You could always buy one today and sit on it until either you can't resist building it or selling it for big profit?

REVIEW: 75040 General Grievous’ Wheel Bike
rollermonkey replied to HandofBobb's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I was this close to picking this up the other night, but opted for Bad Cop's car... Looks like I'll be hitting the LEGO store again, because the new Grievous looks pretty fantastic. (And the wheel bike isn't bad either.) Is the Boga the lizard that Obi Wan rides? -
^Absolutely. I'm sure I could have saved money if I'd spent more than 2-3 hours sourcing the bulk of the lots.

I wish mine would hurry up and get here. Ten days already, but the tracking says it's in this county. Finally.

I got the 1x8s for 108 Euro with shipping, which the day I bought them was $138. The grooved sand green 1x2s were $56.54 The girl's hair was $7.95 (which is insane) Train windows were $18 Blue arches were $8 One surprise was that the correct cat was in BnP when I ordered, I'm sure that saved me $. I tried to balance prices with minimizing the total number of stores, but I still ended up with 15 BL orders, 3 or 4 BnP orders, 2 PaB orders and I went to two LEGO stores to hit the different PAB walls. I can't add it all up yet, as I'm waiting for two more BL orders to be invoiced. I'm considering getting glass for the train windows, but I'm going to see if I like the way it looks without glass first.

Are any of the EU countries getting this at a better price than the UK? I'd think that would be an easier route than trying to get one from the US.

So am I the only one who is doing this right now who went with all accurate parts? Sand green 1x8s, medium blue awning, correct hairpiece, etc... No wonder my price total is quite a bit higher... :/

You're going to have to make a spreadsheet and look through lots of sources to get it all absolutely as cheap as possible. I didn't bother with any of that, so I'm sure I paid more than I had to, but at the same time, I wasn't planning on buying it all in one week.

Maybe this is wrong of me to say, but I think that looks nicer than most of the official modular sets! Stunning. I'm going to be mad if this isn't the new modular for 2015.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Pretty unlikely to release a new System Falcon, since there's already one on the shelves... Yes? -
I think if the area immediately around the 'windows' and a couple studs down were clad in tiles it would look better, but I'd have to try it out to decide for sure.

Y'all should have warned me that BrickLink is so addictive... I'm up to 222 lots of 311 ordered. 89 to go... 295 lots ordered, 16 to go. ...and with a BnP order of 15 lots, all that was left was the boy's torso to find on BrickLink. I guess now I wait for invoices and packages now?

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
rollermonkey replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hey, Brickdoctor... Can you add the pictures/info to the first post for the sets that are announced and/or released in certain regions? I mean I have 4 microfighters on my desk, and they still aren't on the 1st post. It'd be nice for those of us in regions where some items have been released elsewhere, but not here yet. Then we don't have to dig through 200+ pages of posts for some info. -
^Hah! That's awesome. You're actually much farther along than I am. The highest mine goes is the 1x1 earth green bricks attached to the baseplate. :) Orange hinge bottoms for the vegetable boxes? Tsk, tsk. ;) I kid because those are definitely very difficult to find in the sand green.

There are emoticons for sarcasm, I just haven't figured out which of the little lego heads here is the right one, unless it's just the wink? -
Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
rollermonkey replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The kids wouldn't love WWII themed sets. As far as most kids under 12 are concerned, that theme is almost as much of a historical fantasy as is the medieval theme, due to pop cultural WWII references like Captain America, Indiana Jones, etc. I think they'd prefer a more generic period military theme, but at the same time, I think that kids are less interested in realistic war-play then previous generations. They still incorporate conflict and strife into their play, but I still think even then, they lean more towards futuristic concepts like space aliens, a la Halo, or fantasy combat in the vein of WoW or LOTR. For Millenials, WWII is something that happens in Call of Duty games, sad as that may seem. -
Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
rollermonkey replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't have Taj (and never will at those prices), and even though I do have London Bridge and both versions of the Sydney Opera House, I do not consider the Creator Expert sets as part of the Architecture line. As for "rollermonkey" the roller part is from roller coasters... The monkey part was a nickname given to me in my twenties, right about when the internet started becoming prevalent. My first e-mail address was actually munkey@aol.com. The roller was added later because six-letter words for e-mail and logins were generally not available or permissible when I got divorced, (the aol was her parents account) thus the 12-letter rollermonkey, which I've been using since about 1999 or 2000.- 31 replies

Top 5 LEGO Architecture sets? What's your favorite?
rollermonkey replied to henrysunset's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have, and have built, all of the sets including Marina Bay Sands. (I did have to Pick-a-Brick the John Hancock though.) I'm not going to use the $50 ceiling, as that eliminates way too many of the sets. In no particular order: Robie House Marina Bay Sands Imperial Hotel UN Building Guggenheim I don't have a favorite, I like some more than others, but no clear favorite. I do have a least favorite, though... White House. Totally meh. As for what makes a great Architecture set? An iconic building, faithfully recreated at an appropriate scale.- 31 replies

I decided that I was going to order the remaining parts for GG that are not available via PnB on BrickLink tonight. Those lots, I think it was 11 or 12, required that I go to 5 different BL stores to get them all. At each one, I added lots until the order was at least $12-15 to justify the shipping costs. The last one I checked, I ended up getting FIFTY lots for under $20! 91 additional lots, 370 pieces in total, about $75 before S&H, including a couple of the most expensive individual parts. 170 of 311 lots ordered, so 140 left to source.
