  1. Thanks Blacktron. Yes the bodywork's all dark bluish grey with some white and red markings here and there. She's 90 studs long and weighes about 2.5Kg when fully loaded with APC on the ramp and battery box for the lights. I'm up to version 5 of the folding arms for the missile pods! They're definately the most challenging part of the model. I think I may have finally found a solution that is both functional and looks good. Although they will probably still need some kind of metal reinforcement to prevent drooping when in the open position. The above photos show an older version using clicky hinges and plates that don't fold very well - so I'll post some closeups of the new version when I'm done. Thanks again for the awesome Aliens minifigs that inspired me to build this thing!
  2. So I finally got round to watching the Desolation of Smaug on download, but when it got to the Necromancer scene (one of the few good bits) my main thought was "why doesn't he look even remotely like the Lego minifig?" In fact, when not in swirling black cloud form, he looks pretty much like the cool Sauron in armour from the prologue of Fellowship of the Ring. ie. Alot closer to the 'Mouth Of Sauron' minifig than this set's bare black minifig with glowing green nipples. A decent Sauron figure with cool helmet might have pushed this set over the line for me, but as is, it's a definate 'pass'.
  3. Nice and chunky. Can the guns be aimed upwards too? Looks like they'd be good for anti-aircraft fire.
  4. Great mod. Now kids csn actually reach the serving window. Back end still needs some work but that would probably require additional parts.
  5. Great job on the wall & floor decorations, the telescope and the chandelier. Cool that you managed to pack all this into 16x16 without making it look cramped.
  6. Nice asymmetric ship. Like the interior and the medlab.
  7. Scene from James Cameron's 1986 movie Aliens: "Close your eyes baby. Don't look at it"...."Bishop!" "Punch it Bishop!" Special thanks to Matthias aka Blacktron for the custom Ripley & Bishop minifigs: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58464&st=25 Background photo kindly provided by James Addison (Extramatic)
  8. Hey, just seen this: That black APC looks great - and the marines look badass. Very nice. All you need now is a giant black dropship! Larry's been making some improvements to his original APC design so I may have to dust off my copy. In particular I'd like to shorten the nose a bit so it can roll on and off the dropship ramp easier without scraping the floor.
  9. Scene from James Cameron's 1986 movie 'Aliens': Bishops uses the uplink transmitter to remote pilot the second dropship down to the planet surface for evac.
  10. Looks good. One problem though: Looks like you can walk straight off the street up the stairs and find yourself in a bedroom. Probably need to add a corridoor around the stairs with doors to the individual hotel rooms - I agree it's a challenge given the tight space. I ended up modding mine to reduce the double thickness walls on the 1st floor to single thickness - to make a bit more room. Now have a grand total of 3 hotel rooms with 2 ensuite!!
  11. That's a really nice MOC / MOD. It's great that you've captured those 4 key moments from the movie. Also the eye-level photos are superb. Good job.
  12. My vote would be for a Minas Morgul set since we've already seen some great looking renditions - and it has a unique castle style. IMHO it's very hard to render ruins in Lego without it ending up looking like a half finished pile of bricks. PS. I'm always disappointed when I click a thread expecting to see some cool mocs of Minas Morgul and or the Ruins of Osgiliath and instead find another poll about which 'dream set' people would like TLG to produce. This seems to miss the point of Lego which is to build your own 'Dream Set'. Pretty sure Lego have already released all the parts necessary to build an excellent Minas Morgul or Osgilliath MOC. Get building people!
  13. Love the lava bubbles and the lighting. Great job.
  14. Fantastic work. Love all the greebling on the walls and the attention to detail in each room. Mechs look great too.
  15. Custom Aliens Minifigs by Matthias: http://www.eurobrick...pic=58464&st=25 Power loader design by Larry Lars
  16. No mention of the new firing blasters? Seems they're quite interesting parts with lots of possibilities. Larry Lars showed some stuff you can do with them on flickr: Possibilities by Larry Lars, on Flickr
  17. Hi, In case you're not aware of it, the bricklink catalogue page is a good resource for identifying bricks: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=P Identifying parts from your pic with the question marks from the top: 1) Orange 1x2 plate or maybe a http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3794b 2) looks like a regular 1x2 dark bluish gray tile 3) regular 1x2 brick 4) joints from top: - ball and socket, - Possibly http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2921 or similar - click hinges http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=44302 I hope this helps
  18. Here's hoping the official Smaug set looks this good.
  19. Nice review. Think I'll pass: Radagast is OK but I can do without the rest. Not a fan of bald orcs and weird looking figs like Azog that aren't even in the book and which Jackson just made up to pad out the films.
  20. Nice review but shouldn't the Eiffel Tower be 'Dark Tan' rather than 'Dark bluish gray'?
  21. Shakespear, Lincoln, Panda And Starbucks guy are great. The rest; not so much. Maybe some useful individual parts, but £2 is expensive just for a helmet or hairpiece.
  22. I really like the way you use those turn-table top plates to hold the leg joints together.
  23. Very nice. Thanks for the tutorial Legonardo. Some great techniques in there.
  24. Very nice old school ships. I like the missile design on the LDD ship too (beats flick-fires anyday)
  25. The windscreen looks great. It's a good job the droid pilot doesn't need to see out thanks to all his sensors and wot not - so he can have a cool looking stripey windshield instead :) Shot 7 has a really nice shape too, with that 45 degree tail fin.
