Lance, if you click thru to my flickr you can find a number of pictures that show how it all slots together. RedViper, I had alot of the parts already but black parts are generally quite cheap. I remember I got the long curved slopes for a ridiculously cheap price like 2p each or something.

You mean the gothic arches? If I remember correctly they use 8 in the model - 6 on the windows of the potion room and 2 somewhere else internally. So you can just substitute the internal ones to provide the 8 arches needed for the complete 4-wall exterior.

Nope. I did it the old fashioned way.

It's amazing how the professional offence-taking industry has trained people to self-censor their own thoughts and desires. I'd like some confederate minifigs and don't much care if it offends someone. Same as I'd like WW2 figs. You don't heal wounds and past conflicts by pretending they never happened or ignoring them. They must continually be re-examined so we don't make the same mistakes again. And yes - that includes teaching kids about them - and kids learn alot through play.

Thanks for the positive comments. Yes - I used mirrors at either end to turn 3 cryo tubes into 15. They used the same technique in the actual movie to save money on the set design: See the 'Making of Aliens' documentary here ( they cover the hypersleep scene from 4:40 ) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n7QDzToLl70&list=PL8D6D1EDD0AF5543A

Spot on. Peter Jackson's done a Lucas. Looks like yet another CGI fest with cheap plastic sets, made-up padding characters & scenes that serve no purpose except to boost the running time. Not to mention rubbish looking CGI orcs. There's more atmosphere in 10 seconds of live action from the LOTR Amon Hen battle than the entire Hobbit trilogy so far. You could literally hear a pin drop in the theatre when Aragon chopped Lurtz's head off. Here's hoping for a final wave of LOTR sets.

Got my Exosuit signed by Pete At Bluewater today. A very enjoyable build - a great model - and a fantastic selection of parts for sci-fi mocs. Also the price wasn't too bad at £30 - much better than the BTTF & Ghostbusters sets (£45??! No thanks - think I'll wait for a discount on that one). The Exosuit even beats the price on similar-sized unlicenced sets like the eradicator mech at £35 - despite having much cooler design and much more useful parts. I may buy some more when the double points sale comes round. Highly recommended.

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Missing Brick replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Like so many other products, Lego is made, manufactured and transported by oil by-products. It's thanks to companies like Shell that we have such a huge variety of plastic products, from Lego to life rafts to hip replacements. It's thanks to companies like Shell that we have warmth and light in our homes, fertilisers on our crops, food in our shops, on our tables and in our stomachs. It's thanks to them that we have fuel in our cars and planes, semiconductors in our iPads, phones, TVs and life support machines in our hospitals. It's thanks to them that we have long lives of comfort and leisure instead of the short harsh lives our ancestors suffered ; labouring away all day to scrape a living off the land. Greenpeace was founded with noble intentions to protect the environment and to stop whales being fished to extinction - but those battles have been largely won. Now they have become a $multi-billion organisation that rakes in donations by running bogus scaremongering campaigns against legitimate businesses like Shell & Lego that produce products we all need and love.- 214 replies

Great looking model. Definately getting one to build and perhaps a second to keep BNIB. But I'm not sure it will be much of an investment. TLG continue to produce lots of 'mechas' in their regular line-up, so I don't think this set has the uniqueness or rarity of a set like say Emerald Night. eg. http://brickset.com/sets/6862-2/Superman-Vs-Power-Armor-Lex http://brickset.com/sets/70707-1/CLS-89-Eradicator-Mech http://brickset.com/sets/70008-1/Gorzan-s-Gorilla-Striker None as cool as the Exosuit of course, but a continual supply of similar new sets will certainly sap aftermarket demand.

Really nice lines. Love the stern, the leaning sides and the arc made by the gun hatches. Looks like the rudder is missing though?

I built the dropship in dark bluish grey with the APC in LBG - although Larry Lars' original APC was DBG - so I had to make some substitutions on the APC for parts that were only available in DGB.
-
Thanks all. @smiffy: I don't think Lego would ever make a set based on a horror movie franchise - but thanks anyway. It should be quite easy to copy from the plan view picture I posted. I'm sure you could make lots of improvements too: stronger folding arms, more rounded body, get rid of the seam where it tapers to the tail and use snot to get rid of the ugly studs under the tail etc. There's also a much better piece that can be used for the air nozzles - but I think they only make it in LBG - see Red Spacecat's dropship: AV-24B SeaHawk by Red Spacecat, on Flickr .

Aliens - Colonial Marines Custom Minifigs
Missing Brick replied to Blacktron's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
A quick review of Blacktron's Aliens Figs: I've bought about 10 figs over 3 separate orders and I'm very very happy with them. Postage was fast and the figures were very well packaged. They look as great in the hand as they do in the photos - each fig having been skilfully hand crafted and painted. The body armour and helmets are removable so you can easily swap the armour and change heads for different facial expressions. The moulded parts are very robust - I've dropped mine many times and no breakages yet. One thing to bear in mind: since the helmets are moulded they don't have the same 'clutch power' you get from an official piece of lego head gear. As a result it's easy to accidentally knock the helmets off or rotate them into the wrong position. This can easily be solved by placing a small piece of tissue paper over the head stud so the hats grip better. So, overall I give these figs 10/10. Well worth the money and highly recommended for all Aliens fans. -
Great re-imagining of a classic. And thanks for the tree technique demo - very cool.
-
Thanks for the demo. Very cool technique. I'm thinking this might be a useful technique for an organic curved Alien structure in one of my Aliens mocs..
-
Very nice atmospheric corridor and lighting. I would suggest making the wall at the far end a closed blast door instead - to give the impression we're only seeing part of a much larger ship or moon base. Maybe some piping on the walls too. Good job though.

Scene from James Cameron's 1986 movie 'Aliens'. Custom minifigs by Blacktron http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57638&st=50 After featuring on 'The Brothers Brick' a few weeks ago (thanks guys!) these Lego Aliens pics went viral in the wider movie fan community, with appearances on a number of movie blogs like these: http://flavorwire.com/460553/james-camerons-aliens-recreated-in-lego http://www.avclub.com/article/cuteness-coming-out-walls-lego-aliens-photoset-205446 https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/aliens-scenes-recreated-lego-155000751.html As a result I've had 88,000 views on my Aliens album page so far - so I guess Blacktron will be needing to make some more of his awesome colonial marines. Thanks everyone!

LEGO Ideas: 21110 Research Institute/Female Minifigure Set
Missing Brick replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Town
That old canard? If women are under-represented in the skilled workforce it's because 80% of them sensibly choose to focus on having children and raising a family rather than devoting themselves 100% to work as most males do. A much more serious problem in the UK is the lack of ambition and academic achievement among boys from poorer backgrounds. In the UK it's because the State is slowly taking over the role of the father due to the benefits system favouring single mothers. And of course the State makes a lousy father. -

Meanwhile, back in the real world: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/10608739/Boys-being-left-behind-as-university-gender-gap-widens.html "Boys are being left behind as university gender gap widens: The number of girls seeking a UK university place this year is more than a third larger than that of boys, who university chiefs say are becoming a disadvantaged group." "In at least 20 institutions, there are twice as many female full-time undergraduates as males. The growing divide in further education follows a similar trend at school level, where girls now outperform boys in all age groups and subjects. Last summer’s GCSE results showed a record gap, with almost 25 per cent of exams sat by girls graded A* or A, compared with less than 18 per cent among boys... The figures show that the gender gap is particularly wide among poorer households." Personally I think TLG should include at least one male minifig in this set and stick two fingers up at the 'Millie Tant' militant feminist brigade.
