  1. So, having worked perfectly for years, it seems Yahoo decided it would be a good idea to break flickr a couple of weeks ago - so it doesn't work anymore on anything but the very latest browsers. I'm running Safari iOS5.1 on an iPad2 and now I get an 'unsupported browser' message when I go into the photo preview page - so I can't comment anymore. Kind of annoying since I've never encountered any other page anywhere else on the internet that doesn't work with Safari 5.1. 'Why not upgrade to iOS7 or iOS8?' I hear you ask. Because they run like treacle on iPad2 with more lagging than my loft. I also hate the 'every-app-looks-the-same-flat-white' style that Johnny Ive imposed after Steve Jobs died - and the confusing way the wifi networks jump around when you click them. Anyway, guess I'll have to get used to using flickr on my tiny Android phone screen. /rant
  2. Looks great - but wasn't there a very similar moc recently published? Maybe a case of great minds thinking alike but otherwise it's probably to a good idea to credit the earlier version.
  3. These are really great. But too expensive for me. I really wish lego had made a Gondorian army builder. PS. Your custom orc armies look great too.
  4. The writing on Vasquez looks great - even if it's not quite readable. I like the Adios on her gun too. Not suprised to hear they take a long time to make. Each is a mini work of art. The fluorescent paint on the shoulder lights is great but it's not really bright enough to show up on camera unless everything else is completely black. I've got a bag of 5mm diameter white LEDs which are a bit too big for the shoulder lights really. So I plan to position the figs so the camera can't see the LED directly - just the beam. Will see if it looks OK. The alternative would be to buy some 2mm LEDs and drill/mod the minifigs but I want to avoid that if I can. Glad to hear your girlfriend liked my mocs :)
  5. Wow. These latest figs look great - I guess you get better at it the more you make. I'm working on a scene with LEDs on the marines shoulders. I didn't want to damage the existing painted shoulder lights so I'm just sitting my LEDs on top of them and running the wires down their backs into the floor. Hopefully it'll look OK from a distance. Hoping to add some fog so I get nice light beams in the photos.
  6. Good thanks. I'm working on a new moc featuring your Xeno figs & marines - just waiting for a bricklink order to arrive so I can finish it.
  7. Gotta agree: I don't think mother-&-child-friendly Lego would ever touch a gory horror franchise where people get brutally killed by insect-like Aliens. Not gonna happen. But no problem: Blacktron can supply better-than-Lego-quality figs and you can copy fantastic Aliens vehicles mocs from great builders like Larry Lars, Grant Masters & Legohaulic on flickr. Who needs Lego Ideas! Here's a gallery of some of the best aliens builds on flickr
  8. Interesting video. Thanks for the link. So far I've tried to do all my effects in camera. For me photoshop feels a bit like cheating when it comes to Lego MOCs. I mean - why build anything if you're going to add CG elements to the photo? May aswell just do the whole thing on the computer. But muzzle flashes do present a problem for practical effects.
  9. I really like DrJoseph's roof conversion mod. It preserves the look of the building while solving the height disparity issue - and even manages to look like the sort of addition that would be made to a real building- rather than a total rebuild or change of the original structure. Anyone else get the feeling they're suffering from 'double vision' when looking at some of the 2-set mods? :)
  10. I totally missed the whole Blacktron thing due to my Dark Ages - but I saw that Jangbricks review today - and wow - that's a very cool space base. I love the two rack and pinion features - so cool the way that launch area opens out.
  11. Really nice powerloader, minifigs and Aliens. I used the Frodo hair for Ripley too! Good match - looks even closer if you pull it up off the stud slightly. I like the use of the technic gear for the queen's teeth too. Good job. Perhaps the Powerloader scale is a little more Matrix APU than Aliens - but it looks cool. Actually it's near impossible to build a true scale powerloader cos the one in the movie is only about 1.6x human height. Lego need to make smaller bricks! PS. If you're on flickr please add a couple of shots to the Aliens group: https://www.flickr.com/groups/alienslegogroup/

Nice. If you put power functions in that prop do you think you could actually make it move?
  13. What Fred said - but I would add it's also possible to DIY without soldering, using crocodile clips to connect everything up (ideal for exterior lights on a building assuming you can tolerate having a mess of wires and clips inside of the building). You can get some ridiculously cheap sets of croc clips on amazon - so with a 9V battery, some 3mm LEDs and a selection of radial resistors - you can make a very cheap lighting system (< £4). That's what I used for the wall lights on the middle picture below. By contrast the official powerfunctions lights are ridiculously expensive ( £5.50 for 2 dim LEDs + £12 for a battery box!! )
  14. This thread on lighting the winter village may be useful. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77308&hl=+winter%20+village%20+lighting#entry1465122 I tend to use powerfunctions leds for small lamps in the build and LED torches for ceiling lights. I also tried using discrete 3mm LEDs wired up with crocodile clips on my most recent moc.
  15. Yup, Larry's powerloader is a brilliant design - great fun to copy - and most of the parts are very cheap on Bricklink because yellow isn't a very popular colour generally. Only downside is the model is pretty fragile and can be tricky to pose (the feet and arm connections were a bit loose on mine). But once you've got it posed it looks awesome - very movie accurate.
  16. Nice little scene. Can't beat the Hazmat guy head for that all-purpose worried look.
  17. Lots of interesting technique demos in this flickr group: https://www.flickr.com/groups/788191@N24/ Ace builder Tardisblue also has some interesting demo's of how his intricate ships go together: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tardisblue/ Plus there are some great tutorial threads here on eurobricks, eg. Derfel Cadern's medieval village tutorial: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60907 Tree building techniques: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68638 Advanced building techniques: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21936&st=50 Just google 'eurobricks' + whatever you're trying to build - to get some inspiration.
  18. Hi, You could try posting questions about a particular model on Pete's flickr channel here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/legoloverman/ However, don't expect to get LDD instructions. His builds are incredibly complex and use alot of rare parts and innovative connections. If you're a beginner I'd suggest trying to copy some of his simpler mini-builds first. Good luck
  19. Another great issue packed from cover to cover with interesting articles. Many thanks for giving me the opportunity to contribute Carlos :)
  20. Great model and really nice job on the photoshop background.
  21. Very clever. I like working out how the main ship comes apart to form the mech and small ship. Really nice feature.
  22. Thanks all. Yes, for the interior I re-used some of the wall and door sections from previous mocs to save time. I always spend too long on the interior: I add lots of details but 90% of them aren't visible.
  23. Scene from James Cameron's 1986 movie 'Aliens' The colony complex looks deserted.... but they still have power. PS. Please check out the Aliens article by Blacktron and I in the latest free issue of HispaBrick magazine: http://www.hispabrickmagazine.com/en/content/english-hispabrick-magazine-021
  24. Nice to see the mon calarimi has brought his toy panda. Nice design. Like the left/right colour split.
  25. I posted my hands-on review of Blacktron's latest Xenomorph figs in his Forsale thread, but in a word: They're awesome! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=58464&st=75
