Here's the original limo: And here's my 6-wide mod: Palace Limo Mod by Legoogel, on Flickr I chopped a stud off the overhang at each end and one stud out of the mid section, then added proper doors, windscreen, wheel-arches and some compound tires. I actually like the original front end, so no change there. And here's the 5-wide version Both use exactly the same bonnet / hood assembly. I cheated slightly on the 5-wide bumper / fender: I used one of the disposable pins from a set of lego railway tracks - cut to length. Here's a comparison shot. The 5-wide looks a much better scale when placed next to the 6-wide lego truck sets. More pics on my flickr.

Great mod. I'll definately be copying this when the LR sets are finally released in the UK. One suggestion: From the side it looks like the front axle could do with moving back one more stud or maybe a half stud. The wheel base still looks slightly too long for the carriage. Maybe this wheel holder from the coffin car would work? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2926 (Ed: Maybe not - I see you need 6 wide, not 4) Apart from that it's perfect.

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
Missing Brick replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The complete tower has 12 faces in total. The set provides 7 faces, so you need to build 5 more faces to complete the tower. So a 2nd set would only provide enough bricks to complete the tower plus enough to add another floor. If you wanted to increase the diameter, say by 2 studs all the way up, it's gonna take alot more than 2 sets. Personally I'm quite happy with the size of the set (it's huge!) The bottom 3 floors all have a decent amount of floor space. -
WIP - LotR Helm´s Deep (minifig scale)
Missing Brick replied to Altezza's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Your first MOC you say? How about starting with something a little less challenging? May a 2:1 scale model of the Eiffel Tower or Sistine Chapel? Seriously though - great job. The scale actually looks larger than the film. I think they could have withstood the assault if the walls were that high and thick.- 124 replies

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc

Thanks guys. Good point about the arches Eurolock. At the moment I'm using http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=88292 which looks OK - but you're right, I can probably swap things around once I get the set. In the designer video they said they used 26 new arches - so should be pretty easy to swap a pair to use for the back wall. I'm just waiting for my thirty 10x1 slopes to arrive now, so I can finish the snot base section. This thing takes a huge number of bricks and plates. I thought I had alot of black bricks - but nowhere near enough without some major bricklink orders. -

Generally I prefer not to apply the stickers for many reasons. (always crooked, prevents brick reuse, mint sticker sheet increases resale value etc). Anyway, I think you'd be better off printing your own white hand banner on paper since it will look more like a real cloth banner. I used the following method: 1) find a white hand jpg you like on google images 2) use paintshop to resize and print the image. Make the black border oversized so you have room to cut a frayed edge with scissors, 3) now use paintshop to mirror the image 4) Using trial and error, try to align the mirror image on the other side of the paper - so you have a double sided banner / flag 5) Cut out with scissors 6) Use a pin to make mounting holes in the paper. 7) Build a mount using lego bar/torch holders/arms/clips etc -

I started building the back wall for my set from the top down. Looks like the top floor 'trophy room' reduces to nothing once you add the back wall. The set 'cheats' by adding an extra row of studs to the floor space. Once you add the back wall and remove the cheat row of studs, all you have left is a cross of 10x2 studs. So it's a bit cramped :) No great loss though. My uruks need that white hand armour anyway. -

Thinking about doing this - but I think the problem is going to be that it will require quite a few of those new pointed arch elements to complete the back wall - and those are only available in this set - and likely to be pretty expensive on bricklink if available atall. Still, it might be a fun project for the next 2 months - to see if you can build the back wall in advance - just from the pics. Quite how to attach it is another matter: hinges, or technic pins... Of course it's going to need to be full of stairs to get between floors... Lots of fun modding ahead. -

I agree that's the best view: you can see the Palantir and that awesome new arch too. However, the model isn't 100% symmetrical at that angle due to the open back. That's probably why they chose the head-on view. Have to say I'm not 100% sold on the 90 degree doors. Shame they couldn't find a way to place them at 45 degrees like the Palace Cinema. Prolly not enough room up there to fit them. -
Great idea to add a step inwards - back from the road. Just like the Mann Theatre Hollywood. Interior's great too.

Super bus - the striped coachwork, opening door & seats all look awesome. I may have to make myself a copy of this beauty.

LOTR Project: The Return of the King
Missing Brick replied to Nuju Metru's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Supported. Like Nuju's other excellent Edoras set, this does a great job of capturing the essence of Minas Tirith in a practical sub $200 set. While we all like to drool over movie acurate models like OneLUG's 8-foot-tall Orthanc - very few people would want such a huge hunk of plastic in the house, even if they had the money and space for it. Like the recently announced Orthanc, Nuju's Minas Tirith is an excellent compromise between size, practicality, realism, playability and price. Those that have the time and money can buy multiples to increase the size and realism. That's what Lego's all about: The set it just the starting point for your own creation. -
Looks fantastic. Looking forward to seeing the minifig scale version ;)

Review: 10228 Haunted House
Missing Brick replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Still waiting for a better price. You can currently get the 2200 piece Grand Emporium for £93 from Amazon.es, so £150 for the HH with only 2100 pieces is over 60% more expensive. I like the Haunted House set, but feel there's got to be a better deal on offer at some point. -

Nice. Perhaps a trans-orange plate for the iconic "taxi" sign on the roof ?
-
Wow - that combo looks cool. Must be a tight fit. I guess bathing the tires in hot water first might help with stretching them. Many thanks the info. I will definately be adding a selection of different tire sizes to my next Bricklink order.

Hi EROL, I'm very interested in the 'compound tires' you describe because I've often found the standard lego wheels either too big or too small. I think the standard limo uses these 17.5 x 6mm tires http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=51011 The next size down appears to be these 14 x 6mm slicks http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=50945 I'm not sure about the next size up, but I think it might be these 21 x 6mm motorcycle tires http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=50861 I think it's possible to combine the latter two tires to fit the palace limo hubs as shown here: But I'm not sure. Can anyone please confirm?

Looks great until you see the minifig next to it. Looks a bit too big with those wheels. The chauffeur can barely see over the bonnet. Perhaps small wheels plus wheel arches would be better? Or perhaps 5-wide?

Looks good. With all that internal space you could certainly make a great sloped auditorium over 2 floors. I'm thinking 100 seats+. PS. I think it would look better if the 2 centre poster windows move one stud towards each other to get a regular spacing (or else add a central pillar to justify the gap).

Very nice MOC. Lovely gardens and interior details. The black turret maybe throwing the symmetry off somewhat when viewed from the front and back - perhaps it would look better without the turret?? - Maybe just a regular loft window instead. Either way - great work.

Nice MOC Jacob. Great throne. There are some more great little GoT mocs here: http://www.legogameofthrones.com/ Here's hoping for a GoT Lego licence if the Tolkien licence expires. Yeah I know; too adult. Would need a 'battle pack' of naked female characters for all the sex scenes in season 1 alone.
