[MOC] Iveco X-way 2021
amorti replied to Rebel_Lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Could the drive motor be connected without universal joints and the second bevel gear which isn't with a bevel frame? They seem a bad call for such a big model, I bet it clicks teeth if you flip power from back to forward. -
@Yoseep those CaDA monsters pack a punch. In the front you'll definitely snap plastic universal joints in a second, no matter how many rubber bands you twist around them. CaDA joints are the strongest metal ones I've found so far (except darkicedesign, but the use of a grub screw to tighten against an axle is no Bueno). In the rear you'll definitely have crunching from the 12 tooth gears. If you look through the thread you'll see I've given some options to strengthen the rear swing arms. Those mods work fine for mouldking motors, however CaDA motors are even stronger. I think you'll need some carbon axles out from the motors, as plastic axles bend in the middle and allow the teeth to skip. Also check out my suggestion of an even tighter method to bind the wheel to the hub. It helps the universal joints a lot by keeping movement in the expected plane and putting the wheel's crosshole nearer the power.

[MOC] [WIP] Small RWD Drifting

Looks good! Remarkably well controlled. I think hanging two more motors out the back will upset the balance. Try drifting in an early Porsche... How purist are you? CaDA Pro L motors deliver significantly more speed and torque than Lego L motors, and they're pretty cheap. https://www.custombricks.de/motors-cables-sbrick/cada-power-functions-l-motor.html -

That'll work! However, while those joints won't snap, they do wear out after a while. Metal joints would work better. -

Looks cool. I'd be surprised if it has a positive caster angle though, considering the rake on the chassis. -
Looking good! Try to lose the red bushes behind the front wheels. Without it, the wheels will swing back and forth less, so you'll be able to build a neater wheel arch.

42126 - Ford F150 Raptor

That 140 CAD is 150 AUD. The USA price is 100, which is 133 AUD. 100USD is also equal to 85€, a 40% reduction on the actual euro price. Lego's pricing is an insult to us mug punters outside North America. -

Looks so much better. Of course, that took dozens of pieces for the face, where Lego needed 3. -

+1 My little girl is approaching her 6th birthday. Her Lego collection consists of Disney princess towers including Anna's Ice Castle at 700 pieces (this is a lot when you're 5) and Lego Friends junk including the big dolphin rescue boat at 600 pieces. She wants this stuff because her YouTube videos tell her that's what little girls want, but when I watch her play Lego, what she actually wants is her mummy's Harry Potter and 3-in-1 sets. I could get her that stuff anyway, but the marketing engine doesn't let her want those, so she'd be disappointed even if she'd play with it more. Weird world. -

Loving how they put orange pins in the black running boards, and the usual nice shiny blue ones in the orange front fender. -

Ford don't even make the Raptor as a 2wd, right? -

That's a great job especially on the suspension. I see caster angle, and Ackermann geometry, I think? That's awesome at this scale. Also great for Lego - the tyres are in scale! These are 20mm wide, and original 911's came, apparently, with 205's. @nicjasno - ICYMI, always interesting to hear your opinion on 'proper' suspensions. -

But that's not only impossible to take apart, it's impossible to build it. -

Even so you're saying you're happy paying up to 120€ for 1375 pieces. For me, a set without any electrical parts should be RRP'ed at that sort of money, the retailer shouldn't have to swallow 30€ loss to give it you at that price point. These discount tactics don't hurt Amazon. They hurt the small retailers who can't afford those discounts. -

@2GodBDGlory only time will tell for sure, but if 1375 pieces is right, then that's half what the land rover had and all bets on any gearbox >2 speeds are off. -

Too bad it's only Lego allowed. Cobi has a piece that's more or less just a cylinder, it's used as two studs to put plates together bottom to bottom. Would be ideal for that. -

Agree. If we compare it to the red abomination, it's cheaper, smaller, and has fewer parts. Anyone who expects a gearbox here is, sadly, dreaming. At least we can look forward to some wacky C-models (B-models)
