Neat idea. Interesting output. I do agree, it seems pointless since LEGO has done it with the architecture line already. And something of this magnitude will require close to $900 to complete and that is being generous. I think before you build something for IDEAS, you need to ask yourself: Is there play value? Will it offer new techniques or ideas to fans? Is it something that LEGO doesn't currently offer? If you can honestly give viable options to any of those three questions, then I'd be surprised. Best of luck.

That's really neat. I like the inclusion of new/old here. The Classic exo suit looks way better than the official exo suit (I didn't care much for it, blasphemy I know). I don't have very much CS, but this looks like a neat diorama. I don't look into Sci-Fi too often.

^Exactly. You can't expect realism when looking at Modulars. The colors are fun, but I prefer to look at/learn new build techniques. Yes, we will all buy it because it ultimately looks good, just with a few areas that could be improved (but so far ALL modulars have been like that, in my opinion.)

REVIEW: 71008 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
^No classic space because the insignia goes to Galaxy Squad. Also, quite often with armor there isn't under printing. They did with the Samurai thankfully, but didn't with the hot dog guy. So you never know. I don't think he needs printing since the armor looks great.I love how it allows weapons to be held instead of acting like a jetpack for once. I can't wait to pick up a handful. I think that is the beauty of CMF, they allow everyone to get something, even if they don't love it, someone else will and continue the theme on.- 104 replies

I like the simple use of that grill/ladder piece as a bike rack. I was trying to build one, but that seems to work well enough. I agree, I love the Pet Shop facade. I'd like to see something a little different than this for the Bike Shop, but still a clever idea. I'm torn on that "k" with the cheese slopes. I'd almost suggest doing a different signage, maybe one that has a physical bike on it? The interior works well. I don't ride bikes (haven't since I was a kid), so my mind has never considered a bike shop, but this is a good idea. I may have to consider this as a future modular. Captain Braunsfeld - Those are the official Townhome with the Pet Shop set. Although, it does look like the farthest left is a half plate higher than the original. How is that?

That's funny about the coloring. I actually like the blue. I don't like the brick brick facade. The nougat color can be okay, but I don't want it like that for some reason. I also don't understand the brown inbetween. That is essentially more of the blue building, so why is it brown? It seems like a lot of colors for one facade. I think that is the problem most people have. But maybe they don't like the colors. Market Street was a lighter blue too. I realize most people are hit/miss on that design, but I haven't heard too many qualms with the color. I like the cool yellow color, although I don't like it in proximity to the nougat color. I have plans of switching the nougat color to something else AND not include a brick facade. I'll see how I figure it out. EDIT: Also, in my mind, the "olden days" were all black/white. No colors would be used. That might just be me though...

^I had the same consideration. I ended up picking up Rocket from the Knowwhere set on ebay and picked up the Milano on a 30% off sale. Otherwise, it averages out to be close to $10 each depending if buying villains also. The set itself might be okay. I haven't built it yet, but I really didn't care about getting it. Just like the Quinjet, I only bought for the figures.

If I was into ripping people off, I would have bought more...

Flower cart is really neat. The mini SW set looks good, and I usually try to collect those, but this isn't a "must have." The flower cart looks simple enough, so I will either make a purchase to get it or try to reverse build it. Granted, I'll leave it unopened if I do get it so it's pointless . The mini golf course is cute. I may consider picking that up also.

That's really neat. I was planning on getting more stuff before Christmas, but it looks like I'll wait until January to order it so I can pick this up.

^What problem? Also, I haven't seen these at my Target anywhere. And it said not available at my stores online. Very odd methinks... But it is nice to see "flesh" molding now too. I'm sure they will continue to use that technology since I'm sure it wasn't cheap to mold two colors together instead of printing.

REVIEW: 71008 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great series. Much better than the last one. I like the variety of figures. I'm more of a historical collector, but I'm really digging the space figure in this series. I love modulars, but most city figures are boring to me. But I like what I am seeing here. I plan to get one full set and a few extras of goblins, space troopers, and kings for the capes. I know my daughter will want the Unicorn and the hot dog guy and I think she said she wanted the samurai warrior.- 104 replies

Minifigure Gift Set 2014 at Target
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My wife just pointed this out to me. It said city, super heroes, ninjago, and Chima...which super heroes figure I wonder -
I also build on the floor, but mostly because it is so large AND I don't have a table. I like the ability to spread out with my builds, BUT it is really bad on my knees and back while I'm on the floor. I'm only 30 but my joints feel much older... so that doesn't work so well for me anymore. One day I'll get my LEGO room together with a build station/table. Maybe with a small lip/barrier around the edge so pieces won't fall off so easily...

I'm debating.. Simpsons House or UCS R2-D2. I know Artoo is currently out of stock online, so if it comes back I don't know. But I've seen it available elsewhere. I love the Simpsons, so the house is a no-brainer, eventually. I'm hit/miss with SW, although this looks like a great display piece. I do have a fair amount of other SW sets, so it isn't out of context in my display area. My daughter/wife would love the Simpsons house too, but Artoo would make a great display piece. I'm torn! (My daughter also plays with the modulars, so she has other options of play).

Question re: Brick Friday at US LEGO Stores
TheLegoDr replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Black Friday Wal-Mart had tons of those brick towers. That was their LEGO item to draw in people. I didn't go (I don't do Black Friday, esp on Thanksgiving), but everyone in my LUG that went said they had never seen LEGO sell out so quickly. They were unable to grab any, but the pallets were all there empty within minutes... Other members of the LUG have found them at a LEGO store here in the states, so I'm not sure why it says they aren't available in the US. Probably just not currently available? I don't know. -
EB Xmas Raffle 2014 - Your Ideal Christmas Gift entry thread
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yeah, I think it was after the fact. CopMike shipped to the winner, and then they could trade with other members? -
That actually looks neat. I was unsure by the title, but it turned out well. It gives off a Tron vibe for sure, but also a Blacktron I vibe. I may have to borrow some ideas here.

I converted all of mine to black a long time ago. I also made all of them one plate higher (like LEGO finally decided to do in PR and DO), but I did it to all of them years ago. It made more sense to me. Plus, LEGO can add one extra piece to the piece count to make it look even bigger . The brown baseplate is neat, but I don't know how necessary it was. Granted, they did a new one for PR also and PC...hmm, although I can see good use for multiple light bley/ or red-brown, but not red.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think the idea (and it might not be efficient) is getting as much as you can from one or two stores, and then going from there. Ultimately I don't think there will be just a few stores that have ALL of the pieces. I haven't used that program before. I do it the old fashioned way. I only ordered from a few stores, but I had most of the pieces laying around, but I ordered a bit more for the CC bits and bobs. -
Diorama - The Lone Ranger meets Back To the Future
TheLegoDr replied to technic70s's topic in LEGO Licensed
So how do the canoes go over the tracks? And how does the train go over the water? I'm confused Otherwise, the layout looks neat. I hadn't seen that movie (but I wasn't interested in seeing it..) -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think it is more how do you justify the expense... -
This movie looks great and the sets have so much potential. 2015 will bankrupt me. But I will do my best to acquire what I can. Bryce Dallas Howard And Burt Macklin, dinosaur hunter should be the sequel...

Neat build. I'm with others that know nothing of WW. Although I know she is bad megablocks and looks good doing it. I like the other soldier overall. Although I'd think more of a skirt piece instead of underwear might work effectively. I don't know. But I may have to borrow that combination sometime.

The being "flesh" is fine by me, but the hair colors being so exotic, won't help their use in my displays, unfortunately.
