  1. You don't know if you've enjoyed it or not? The thrill of the chase? Looking for deals on parts? Especially rarer parts?? Seeing this pile grow and grow until you have everything to put together this modern classic? I like the hunt, but due to funds, I don't do it too often. I have been wanting to piece together a lot of older sets I didn't have as a kid. We'll see what happens there.
  2. After receiving my BnP shipment yesterday, the new pirates figures look great. The blue coat (while brighter than expected) actually looks great in hand and I plan on buying more of them. The new flags are beautiful too. I'm really pleased with this nod to my childhood. I hope LEGO continues to do so with castle and space..although, if they do, then I will be broke.
  3. I have not seen the movie. From the comments here, I assume it must be entertaining. I just didn't feel compelled to watch it. (Keep in mind I've seen countless other Pixar movies, and I do usually enjoy them.) With that said, the set may be pretty neat. I may end up getting it. It all depends on price. Just like I'll probably end up getting Dr. Who and TBBT even though I have not seen either of those shows either.
  4. Oh yes, I know. I bought 15+ of them when they were in stores... I don't mind the set color offerings. I just felt some of the figure colors were a little brighter for what I wanted. However, I still really like them. And I still plan on buying lots of them to go with my modernized versions of classic LEGO ships. (I only have SES somewhat finished. I need to work on my sails still).
  5. LEGO is expensive. Has no one realized this yet? Yes, we expect more pieces or figures for more dollar spent, but it doesn't always line up with that. They have their production costs, then they tack on their profit on top of that. In this situation, it is likely most of the figures will have new printing, which does take time and money. If the set piece count is low, the figures are designed to make up for it. Hopefully LEGO will realize people want quality sets AND quality figures at a reasonable price, but that may be too hard to swing with this theme. It seems most people only want the figures, so the designers probably don't focus all of their time/effort on the set itself. To take Star Wars for an example, Mos Eisley Cantina: 8 figures, plus a large molded creature, 615 pieces total for $69.99. 10 cents/piece has been shown to be not the best indicator. However, that set fits pretty close to what you'd expect. Large number of figures, a decent piece count for the price. However the build (in my opinion) is lacking. It conveys what they need it to, but isn't out of this world good. Jokerland will probably be the same way. It will be full of play features (it is a carnival after all), so it will be a hit with the kids (target audience??) and it will have the main cast to play it out. Long time collectors probably will grumble. Kids will probably love it.
  6. I was unaware comics were still being produced. I didn't know there was still a market for them after the whole '90s fiasco. With that said, I like the characters. The movie storylines are hit/miss, but the characters are neat in and of themselves. So to see them in LEGO form, I call it a win. If it has to take a crappy movie, I'll be okay with it. I always wait to rent the movies, so it doesn't change my life at all what happens. It was funny on Arrested Development when they kept having license problems with Fantastic 4..probably joking about how the real licensing problems are between the companies.
  7. I think you captured the shape very well. My complaint would be, it should be dark orange instead of red .
  8. I have not seen that show. But the vignette looks well done. I like the atmosphere it created.
  9. It does seem difficult to get started into the Modulars now since so many have been discontinued since the inception. I couldn't imagine backtracking that much. I guess LEGO will always have to keep sets current that resemble a city (preferably without play features).
  10. Thanks for sharing. I just checked my invoices in my email and my bank account. They also split the order into different amounts, but it totals the same as the original invoice they emailed me. I'm assuming you are saying, the actual invoice from the LEGO website to compare against instead of what they emailed us? Although it does show the shako was 0.54 instead of the 0.39 on my emailed invoice...odd that that particular piece jumps up.
  11. That is really neat. I hadn't heard of the use of fiber optics or micromotors before. I skipped over that whole generation of LEGO. So if LEGO would have went bankrupt, I would never have noticed probably. But I would have enjoyed that as a kid I'm sure. Are these micromotors still around? Interesting that Mattel lost Disney Princess line.
  12. We were in a money bind around Christmas, so I didn't get too much LEGO at that time. The Mrs said to buy some come double points time. There are a few sets I want, but I think ultimately I should probably get caught up on the Hobbit sets, since the exclusives I want will probably be around a little bit longer. And I'd hate to miss out on Smaug.
  13. I do like the updated versions of classic Pirates though. I do agree, the brighter colors can be hit/miss. I like the updated bluecoat torso, but at the same time, I think I would have liked it to be a little darker blue. Oh well.. I do agree on the shako. I think the black one works better overall, but the detailed one still looks nice.
  14. I love classic castle armies. That was my childhood era, so it always brings me back. I have a modest collection of the main groups back then, but haven't tried army building them since. I should consider it again. I find myself looking back at my childhood LEGO more than modern LEGO..interesting indeed. Keep up the good work. I wouldn't want to meet them on the battlefield...until I get my Black Knights army going strong.
  15. Looking at the video in front of Marcos, it looks tiny. Not very impressive. I didn't measure it out in front of me, just estimated size. It does come off as small. I guess I'll need to actually measure it.
  16. It is pretty obvious Hobbit was not a money maker for LEGO, so they probably have scrapped a lot of things. They didn't put their best effort forward..very peculiar.
  17. I haven't watched TBBT, but I do recall seeing pictures of Sheldon? wearing Green Lantern stuff right? Which, clearly is DC. It would make sense they would include a small trophy sized figure of something DC related, simply because Marvel has that same scale microtrophy out now. But like I said, I have not seen any episodes. If it ever comes on instant on Netflix, I may consider it. But I'm sure I will still buy the set. I love new figure prints.
  18. I think they did a great job with the design overall. It has some neat functions. I think the scale is off with the microtrophies though. One looks too big to fit in the cockpit of the quinjet, and way too big for the forklift and gas truck...so technically they should have made a new even smaller mold OR made it even bigger..could you imagine the jump in price? I think it hits home how it should look, but I think it looks a lot smaller than expected to. I don't know how big Marcos is, but it looked rather small on the table in front of him. The printing on the microtrophies is well done. Interesting how Iron man is like the Comic Con version and not the official version...The minifigures is actually a plus. I won't feel compelled to not buy the set for the minifigures for once. This is a set that looks good as a set. Most Super Heroes sets are good for minifigures only. Interesting. Also, the bottom has dark bley boat hull for pirate ships. I will be certainly looking for them in the after market... And that mini quinjet looks great. So I will probably come away with bricklinking a few of them. And it is odd that the tile in a 1x1 clip is now a legal technique. Maybe the new mold allows for it better?
  19. I never once saw Helm's Deep at a clearance price at any big box store. I saw it at a ShopKo once, but never at any other store. Granted, I did end up ordering it through Barnes and Noble because they had a special LEGO sale at the time of release, but it was still about $100 instead of $130. I wish I would have been able to find it for 50% off. I would have bought multiples at that price. I could use more Haldirs and bricks.
  20. Very interesting build. I love the coloring. I do believe the scale seems a bit off, but it works in this setting. I'm sure, as terrified as Frodo would be, plus the appearance/distortion of everything with the ring on, may make him appear much larger than expected. But the scale does throw me off a bit. But overall a great execution. Good luck!
  21. And yes the old ski is out of production. They don't use the finger hinges anymore, likely due to fragility. I used black 4x6 frames, but good idea on the using the new light bley frame that came out last year. I kept the look consistent in color otherwise.
  22. Why is it I feel more sorry for unikitty than Leia...
  23. That lower level every is very similar to a building in my town that I was thinking of voting for a modular...It does look good as it stands though.
  24. Definitely hit/miss.. But so are all of the series. I wasn't expecting a full monster wave. It does seem like it will exclude a lot of fans. I'm certainly torn on if I want to continue getting a complete collection or just picking up the few I like. With the price increases, it makes collecting harder and harder. And I'd rather have certain Super Hero figures in my collection than just CMFs... With that said, I love the tiger girl. She is a must have. The vampire lady works well. The zombie cheerleader is cute, but mostly for the hair (has to be Harley). I'm hoping the rest look better. But I know my daughter will probably want these since she's a Halloween baby. Edit: Also the vampire lady looks to be on a smaller slope brick than normal. As in she doesn't look as tall. Not a new piece, but new printing on an older piece.
  25. That's right! I completely forgot about that balloon cart. That was a good tie in with the mixer. I think I missed out on that one too. I wonder why they had the hot dog vendor during that summer then. I would have purchased Orthanc that July when it came out (or late June for VIP)..hmm odd
