EB Xmas Raffle 2014 - Your Ideal Christmas Gift entry thread
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks again for doing this contest. It is fun to see what everyone comes up with. My ideal gift would be to spend time with my wife/daughter and have some fun presents under the tree. Simple enough. Ooh, and look there are cookies! -
Nicely done. This looks more promising than what I was expecting. I may have to actually pick this up. Also, that seems quick, so methinks they were already expecting it, or it just translated that easily to real Brick.

Got Counterfeit Minifigs, Is Returning Them Illegal?
TheLegoDr replied to Zorglorfian's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
If it is a low price, you probably aren't buying real lego. The reverse is true too. But the above poster is right. They are careful about using the word lego because they know the repercussions. -
So let's say they do Patty AND Selma...I really hope they have different accessories. Getting duplicates will be all too easy with them..

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I tend to just stare at my Modulars also. They look so nice on the shelf. Although I do take them down quite a bit to look at the interior/rear facade. And sometimes I'll let the little one play with it. She has lots of fun, although I think she'd get better use if they were open backed. But she doesn't seem too annoyed at taking the levels off. As far as PC. I just got it and will open it near Christmas, so I don't have any complaints about it. Although the first time I saw it, I didn't like it at all. The more I looked at it, the more I became interested. Yes, the car still is horrible, but I will MOD that. I had considered doing a nice Art Deco theater, but there is something fun about this Chinese theater, so I may keep it like this. -
I agree. I haven't tried that yet, but I have also considered it. I like more consistency with scale, even within LEGO. The rest of the Winter Village line is a great size I think, but that cottage really made it huge. And since the carousel is a disjointed set, it doesn't seem as large/full as it could be.

I like the official Ent, but the face is captured better here. The beard especially. What do you mean by horn? Looking at that piece, it is in a lot of 2014 sets, so it won't be too rare in the future.

Very well done! I've been curious to see it in the brick. And it did not disappoint. I think it fits of week with the others. In always unsure of white buildings, but this seemed to work pretty well.

Vestige81- you got to go to Kansas city store? It was closed for a good chunk of the day today because of issues in the mall..hearing problems or something. Really screwed over a lot of people methinks

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
It all depends on how it looks and number of figures..sometimes they don't give us what we want, but the sets still sell well. I really like Orthanc, but they barely have us anything in terms of figures. As far as coincidence of ideas sets, totally. It takes lego a lot longer to design and plan sets than it would have taken them to get wind of an ideas set hitting 10k. There is a whole inevitable discovery component. I don't see why people bother doing sets from active licenses.. -
Very neat. A member of my LUG did this but for a Halloween MOC. The search is fun for kids. U can tell you put a lot of work into this. There are a lot of neat details. I've been wanting to build a winter village scene, but it would be much smaller also.

Love it! Your builds continue to impress. I love the color scheme. It works really well. I love the detailing with the white cheese slopes. I will have to borrow that. The old tv is spot on. I'd love to keep building modulars, but I have a hard time finding pieces to complete anything worthwhile. Keep up the good work!

That means with the new round jumper tile and the donut tile from last year we will be able to do another stuff reversal to build out in two directions. Whoo hoo! Edit: is that Marcos bessa with the helicarrier? He's done some quality work so I won't be disappointed with that set.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion

Some fan on brickset said it comes out March 1, and will cost $350. I don't know any actual details, but that just priced itself out of my budget. I can't swing the ewok village at 250, so... -
I thought someone said their PAB wall had some azure bricks, whether light or dark I don't know.

Replacing "OldGray" Bricks in an old set
TheLegoDr replied to Nite01's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Basically anything over 7 years, other than standard bricks in primary colors plus black and white, you should look elsewhere . Lego had a huge overhaul of their color palette, so very few pieces of early sets are available. -
That seems really simple and effective. I will have to look into that as well. My only concern is the window they use on the left vs the one we would use on the right. But I like it. Definitely makes it more substantial for a minimal cost addition. Too bad TLG couldn't do that...

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This pricing difference between countries has been discussed to death multiple times over...I thought it was finalized how different pricing is per country based on many factors. It looks like Blakstone definitely understands it. I would say continue to contact LEGO with your concerns if it is so bothersome. Talking about it on here isn't changing anything. With that said, I am of the same mindset as Off the wall. I am curious as to how much each step in production adds to the cost. Obviously this is an internal question that LEGO won't release, but it would be interesting to see the results. It would reflect how each level of sets can be priced, when a lot of other factors seem off. -
Incredible scale. I'd like to see more inner workings. You said residence hall and kitchen?? Keep up the impressive work. I had considered doing a large scale castle, but it became too overwhelming for me thinking about the pieces I'd have to order, especially since I have other projects I'm more passionate about.

Sounds promising, even if it is vague. I loved MF and would welcome more similar sets with other style of monsters. I agree about not wanting a weird chima hybrid. I'm not into Steampunk that much, BUT in lego form I may be able to get behind it. I love New figures and figure prints.

^So I guess I don't quite understand that gif above of Bilbo. It's been a while since I've seen the movie and wasn't really paying attention. What is going on there? As far as the theme goes, I'd love all background characters too! More prints that are Middle Earth related, the better!

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
So it looks like Raccoon will be only free with purchases..yet so many people have already purchased them..hmm Do they let you buy the set and then get the poly and return the set, but keep the poly? I hadn't done that before, but I don't particularly care to spend any money at TRU, so if I can help it I won't. I'll buy the raccoon at $5 each, but I don't want any $30 sets... -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
You can't have just one... I also considered modding the Pet Shop into white with red-brown windows...interesting. As far as the official set. I still don't love the color scheme, but the building design itself looks interesting enough. I'm unsure on how many kfols will be purchasing this or afols buying this for their kids...I mean, do kids normally get 150-160$ dollar sets for holidays? -
I do have blu Ray and it is so much better. However for something like this I'll go the cheaper way and buy the regular DVD.
