"I have seen the future and the future is green!" A wise elf augurs as she gazes into the faces of her allies and wonders. "Do we have anything that can answer this nefarious threat?" Silence. No one wants to catch her eye. Those that do, cannot hold her gaze. "But what of the Sky Reamer, my lady?" A voice from behind the group eventually calls out. A murmur of voices, a turning of heads, and a young Elf with hard eyes steps forward. "Let us attack them from the clouds. Let my Sky Hunters rain death from above... Please?" She pauses a moment, before turning towards the stone again. "Let me see, Kinsman. And let me think." For what seemed an age she stared into nothingness before pointing back across the group, uttering a single word in reply. "Go." That was less than an hour ago. Now the young Elf finds it is he who is lost in thought. It is a good job his dutiful beast knows the way to the Sky Hunters home better than he does. For years the Sky Reamer project was nothing but a dream. He lost count of the times he was told that it would never work. That the Giant Eagles wouldn't want any part of it. But now, they needed him. They needed his team. They needed him to be ready, But was he? A low growl brings him back to the present; The majestically beautiful white lion, telling him of their journey's end. This is my take on the 41174 Starlight Inn set that I picked up a few weeks ago. I'm normally not a big fan of sets and usually only sees them as parts pack but I liked the idea of this one. However, I didn't really like the use of some colours and wanted to use them more realistically, e.g. only green plants and leaves and keep the purple and pink for the interior. The structure is made to reflect the set with a kitchen and sitting room at the ground floor, and a bedroom and a balcony with a telescope on the upper floor, as well as the rounded window. No thought has been given to how this would go with whatever stories goes on at the Elves tv show, comics, books or whatever, I don't care about them at all. This is just my try to make a better inn that could go with the Elves minidolls. Thanks for watching! /Etzel

Hi all,just wanted to share a moc me and my daughter have been building. She makes all the design decisions (she's 6) and I just have to build them! We've just moved house and all my Lego is still packed away, so we've only got hers to play with. It means we've had to compromise a lot, but it's made us much more creative!

Hi All, This is a small build I did for a LUG build competition. The competition was to do a 16x16 build with crossed themes. This is the first build I've done using the Elves figs (I've got some sets for the parts). Thanks

Disclaimer: This is not an attempt to say that LEGO does not produce any gender neutral themes. Architecture and Creator are consistently gender neutral. City and Collectible Minifigures are largely gender neutral. Such themes exist. More themes should be as inclusive. Question: What do you think of the way LEGO markets their non-licensed themes to boys and girls? My answer: I don't like it. I think they are focusing too much on targeting girls and boys individually, rather than producing more gender neutral themes. My example: 2 LEGO themes in the past 2 years that serve as 2 sides of the same coin. Take the concept of Medieval Fantasy. Let's market "fantasy" to girls. We'll have cutesy woodland creatures with pretty designs on their faces, a bakery, a school, a pretty pegasus, and lots of bright pink and lavender colors. It will feature friendship and nature, and the characters will all be Elves. We'll use minidolls instead of minifigures. We'll call it "Elves." Let's market "fantasy" to boys. We'll have scary wacky lava monsters with a creepy goofy jester, oversized weapons, a castle that's a tank, a robot horse, and lots of transparent neon red orange and baby blue colors. It will feature combat and technology, and the characters will all be Knights. We'll use large figures and various monsters. We'll call it "Nexo Knights." Personally, I think that both are successful ideas within those narrow markets. I don't think LEGO would have made such sets if they hadn't done extensive market research on young girls (in the case of Elves) and young boys (in the case of Nexo Knights). But how many young girls would like Nexo Knights? How many young boys would like Elves? Did they have both genders in their focus groups? There are lots of kids (and teens, and adults) who prefer gender neutral ideas. By splitting the concept of medieval fantasy into two diametrically opposed versions, each catering to a traditional gender role, they have lost anything that lies between. Things feel like they've been pushed in either direction, leaving very little overlap. I would like to see LEGO create a new theme with sets that capture the best of the above, engaging both girls and boys at the same time. It could be a "fantasy" theme that lies between the Elves and Nexo Knights themes. So let's have woodland creatures and lava monsters, let's have Knights and Elves, all in one theme. Let's have Castles that aren't built with a single gender in mind, and let's have a good variety of colors that can appeal to a wide base of fans. I think that would be great, and I'm sure there are many others around the world who would love it as well. Another Example: I have young nieces within the age range of most LEGO products. The oldest niece is around 9, and was talking about how much she liked the cool ninjas in Ninjago sets. She specifically talked about how much she liked the Temple of Airjitzu. Then, she looked a bit sad and said "but it's for boys." I don't think that LEGO should really be for boys or girls, it should be for boys and girls. I wish my niece, and other girls like her, didn't feel compelled to avoid what they see as sets 'for boys' and gravitate towards sets 'for girls.' Boy sets have lots of weapons, ninjas, and knights, while girl sets have juice bars, malls, and hotels. In marketing and advertising, only girls are ever seen playing with Friends sets, while only boys are ever playing with Ninjago. It would be great to show girls playing with the ninja sets as well, and to help that, maybe there should be more female characters in those sets. And the same could be said about boys and sets like the recording studio. There is a definite disparity in gender throughout the LEGO catalog. In sets geared towards boys, there are very few girls, and they are usually some sort of nobility, or peripheral and unimportant. Even when there is a female knight, she is a princess, and the only female on the team. In sets geared towards girls, there are very few boys, and they are usually fathers or romantic interests. Even when there is a male friend, he is focused on paying attention to the female characters as a photographer, worker, or nurturer. Also, the Collectible Minifigures (arguably one of the better themes in this regard) always have a skewed gender ratio that favors males over females. I feel that their current marketing teaches a negative lesson to young children about gender norms and stereotypes. I appreciate what they are trying to do in drawing in more female fans, but I feel that they are going too far in the opposite direction with their female themes. It would have been better to incorporate female characters and sensibilities into the themes they already had in order to cultivate more positive gender relations and images. More questions: Can you think of other instances where LEGO has targeted a specific gender, and if so, how do you think it has had an impact (either positive or negative)? Obviously Friends is made specifically for girls, which introduced the minidoll seen in Disney Pricesses and Elves. Do you think that this approach is a good one? While targeting boys and girls specifically may be good for LEGO as a business, is it good for fostering positive gender images, or does it just reinforce the status quo of gender norms? Do you feel that LEGO has any kind of social responsibility in this area as the world's largest manufacturer of children's toys? Do you think that girls should be relegated to doing 'girly' things, and that boys should be relegated to doing 'boyish' things? Do you think I'm making a big deal out of nothing? Anyways, I thought this might make for an interesting discussion. I don't think that anything said here will change the way LEGO does business, as they seem perfectly happy with their current approach, and they aren't likely to take the opinions of some AFOL's to heart. I hope I've expressed myself the way I had intended, and that I haven't rambled on and lost the attention of the readers. I just had some thoughts about this, and wanted to hear some of yours.

Newest additions (as of Aug'16): Older: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have several creations & modifications, but I’ll start off with my biggest mod yet: The expanded Mysterious Sky Castle. The first castle of the Elves theme is quite beautiful, but was a bit too cramped for my liking. I started off by doubling the floor space. This was a rather easy modification to do. All you need is some plates, a few extra tan bricks and whatever else you want to add to the new space. If you have the castle, I definitely recommend widening the castle. After that I decided to add a new floor, which I placed below the existing ones. I incorporated the rockwork, and lava/waterfalls from the Elves Spa and Bakery sets. More to come!

I bought some pegasus wings from the Elves range (these pieces: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=20313&idColor=95#T=C&C=95 and http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=20312&idColor=95#T=C&C=95 ) on Bricklink. They're genuine LEGO pieces but I found that the bar along the side of the wing is too thick and can't be held by regular LEGO system clips. The wings don't stay in place. The slightest movement or contact and they just pop out. Is this a known issue or are they supposed to be that way? -
So, After having done my microfighter Hoth scene which went down quite well, I decided to do an Endor one. In a conversation that followed, I jokingly said I should do one with a Friends twist, and call it 'Friendor'. I wanted to create something that would, when on display, give girls something to enjoy looking at rather than something that could typically be perceived as what a male would normally enjoy. However my job position has taken a turn which means I won't be able to do anything to do with lego (or pretty much anything) for the next year, and so thought I would share this little start of it with you guys as I've no idea if I will manage to get round to it after I come back. So, I had planned to do a microfighter imperial shuttle. When I saw the Elves dragons the idea instantly popped into my head to crossover the dragon and imperial shuttle. This is what I came up with... I think you can probably see the slight nod to the shuttle The dragon could stand on its own 2 feet without the 2x2 boat stud on the bottom, but the 2x2 curved tile kept coming off as it has a weak clutch strength. So figured I would just use the boat stud, and have the tail help with stability while it is standing on its feet. In flight mode, it looks pretty good on a stand. It is generally a pretty sturdy build too. My only real issue i had with this was how to get a minidoll to sit in it infront of the main fin. This was the best solution I could come up with... I'm also not entirely satisfied with how the top of the main fin has turned out, but can't dedicate anymore money into this at the moment (surprising how expensive these colourful parts are!)More pics of it on my flickr. More pictures of the story available via flickr and all good retail outlets "So the Almater finally sees sense in that pretty little head of hers and decides to let the Sky Hunters loose, eh Dawn Weaver?" shouts the red-haired elf, wind streaming through her hair, as she calls down to the pensive looking elf at the head of the Sky Reamer. The young kinsman's face broke in to a wry smile, and he calls back over his shoulder, still keeping his face looking into the clouds, eyes straining as he scans the area ahead. "You really should show the Almater more respect, kinswoman. You never know, you may become one some day!" The red-haired elf roared with laughter. "I shouldn't think so, Weaver. I won't live that long... I love the fight too much! Speaking of which, where are they? Can you see them yet?" A shake of Dawn Weaver's head and she turns her attention to the elf behind her. "See anything through that spyglass of yours? "No, not with this low cloud type that we seem to have around us. But this isn't a normal cloud formation, there is some unnatural magiks at play." The dark-haired elf lowers his seeing scope. "They know we're coming... we must be careful. I have a bad feeling about this." A look of concern flashes across the she-elf's face. "Then I say we land, Weaver", she shouts. "Now!" "Understood my Lady," the young Elf replies before calling out to the majestic birds connected to the Sky Reamer by a harness and a large chain. "Take us down my friends, quickly please." The giant Eagles cry out in unison, a response to show that they have understood and the craft begins to descend through the clouds. "Crew, prepare crossbows," Dawn Weaver commands as the Reamer prepares to land. The two of them hurriedly start unfastening the catches around their weapons. "Contact!" he shouts, opening the front section as the Eagles alight gracefully. "Right my Lady, we're here," he says, brandishing his spear. "Your orders?" "Same as they ever were, Weaver," she says with another smile. "Let's hunt some Orc!" Meanwhile, not far away... "So Spike... woz we doing here then eh? "We'ez waitin' innit Grungorth... for da pointies! "Da pointies, Spike?" "Das right Grungorth... Da Boss ses dey'r coming dis way wiv some big thing in da sky!" "So das why we gots a shoota Spike?" "Yur Grungorth... Da Boss ses if we sees anywuns we don't like... den we shoot em!" "And yous can fire dis thing then can ya Spike? "You betcha Grungorth... spent all last week shooting at snotty little Gobbos. Great fun! Now shut up Spike and listen out for them. While building up my county, I wanted to establish a remote Elven city and the result was Gondolin. Its origins try back into the ruins of Ferodin that are in the forest. Here I have made a ship of Gondolin and some characters to add to the story. Elven forces of Gondolin Gimrog Ferodin was the great kingdom of elves, but now it is merely ruins just Northwest of Enthall. Long before men came to inhabit the villages that united to form Vanhorn, Elves ruled over the Forest. Territorial battles were common and one such battle laid siege to Ferodin and left it to be reclaimed by the forest it lived in. Rumors exist of the tomb of the Great King Filond being hidden amongst the ruins. The remnants of its people fled to the Western coast of Avalonia and are said to have sailed on to other lands. Of the elves who fled from Ferodin, there was Zenithorne, a lieutenant who, with his last company was somehow separated from the refugees. Now realizing the mistake, Zenithorne moved to regroup with his kin, but the attackers dived him and his company. Unable to get past the enemy, He accepted his fate and pushed his company Northward. After several days, they came the falls of an unknown river and all agreed that there was something magical about this place. Zenithorne and his company remained at these falls for several months and finally decided to establish a kingdom, which was named Gondolin. Zenithorne was crowned King and Gondolin remains one of the last of the Woodland Elf cities. During its height, Ferodin was a great economic power and its bank became renown for security and wealth. An Elven city located in North of Vanhorn and on the Falls of Rhondurin, Gondolin was previously a city apart from Vanhorn, but with new elven representation in the Council of Vanhorn, Gondolin has joined Vanhorn for the benefit of trade and some participation in the affairs of Vanhorn. The city is made of granite walls and straddles the River above the falls. King Ebronshir, descendant of King Zenithorne rules over the city. His close friend and top General, Gimrog, bears a great war hammer, named Cedulil, and is the main correspondent between Vanguard and Gondolin. Gimrog is also in command of the Navy of Gondolin, which is comprised of many small, light ships that can easily navigate the streams that lead into Rhondurin and the great river itself. The colors of Gondolin are Dark Blue, Light Blue, and Gold to honor the natural colors of the Falls of Rhondurin. What King Zenithorne and his soldiers noticed at the Falls was something that has long been hidden from the world of Men. The Falls have special powers that must be mastered before they can be used. Zenithorne spent long days wading in the water and by the time his wife bore a son, Zenithorne could muster the strength of the water at his command. He became master of the River and spent his elder days wandering along the banks. During one such excursion, Zenithorne found a gleaming sapphire on the riverbed. Plucking it from the waters, he realized he had found the heart of Rhondurin and named it Aquilan. It was this stone that granted the powers of the river to Zenithorne. He earned it and it was only then that Aquilan made itself known to the worthy individual. Zenithorne had his smiths fashion a golden necklace and set the stone in it. When Zenithorne died, the necklace was passed down to his son and Aquilan followed the line of Kings to Ebronshir, who now wears it. When the King dies, the jewel will pass to Emilule, his son who is currently at 58 years of age, still quite young for an elf, and he will become the sixth King of Gondolin. A curious part of the powers granted by Aquilan, the children of the one who bears it will always be born with blue eyes. Wyndor's Saga: See what happened prior to this: The Laughing Dwarf At one of the passes through the mountains that stretch along the border of Avalonia and Mitgardia, a small band of elvish guards had been alerted by their spies to the fact that reneged dwarves would be trying to enter their green land to wage war and wreck mayhem. These elves were not used to the cold weather that came down from Mitgardia and filled the pass with snow. They often spent the day huddled together waiting for the evening when the next shift would take over for them and they could continue their huddling by a fire. That day had they had seen very little activity on the road. Finally a wagon made it’s way up the trail and past the guards. “Ho there!” shouted one of the elf guards. “What are you bringing into Avalonia?” The oversized man pulled back on the reigns and brought his team of horses to a halt. “Not’in here but beautifool trees from Valholl” the man said through his beard. The elves looked the cart over and under before letting the oversized man pass. “Alright, you may continue you on your journey” they said. “And may we say, these are some most magnificent trees you are transporting. It’s nice to meet someone else with good taste.” The oversized man picked up the reigns and prepared to continue. “By the way” the elf guard asked, stopping the oversized man before he could go. “Did you see anyone else behind you on your way up the pass?” “Uh… no, I was the only trooveler I could see” he answered. “Noo one was behind me.” “Alright boys,” the elf guard turned to say, “Let’s turn in early to the fire. If there was no one behind this gentleman then it will be at least an hour before a traveler would pass by.” The elves turned to head towards the camp and left the pass. The oversized man waited till the elves were far out of sight and then took off his overcoat. “A brilliant plan Rothgar!” said the upper half of the man. Three other dwarves popped their heads out of the logs and one of the asked, “Are we there yet?” “Almost,” answered Rothgar. “We’ve made it past the hardest part. Now we just need to get to the cliff so we can fire on the Drow in time!” OoC: Hopefully you'll caught that the oversized man was really two dwarves standing one on the other's shoulders. But just in case, I'll mention that here And yes, that is a Brian Regan reference in the title.

Getting into Avalonia was not going to be easy, but dwarves are resourceful....and a brainstorm session can yield some great ideas! Raven Darksight was contemplating how to lead a group of his Dwarven Army into Avalonia, but those elves seem to notice everything. There has to be a way in to get past those elves! Ibun, son Mim spoke up, "I got it! We all know how Elves love the forest and the trees right?" "Aye!" "Well, all we need to do is have Rowyn and Bowyn dress up like a tree. They wander over near those Elves and start yelling 'Oi, Me leaves hurt, me branches hurt! Please help!' We know that those Elves won't be able to resist helping out a tree." "Stupid Elves, they'll probably still be munching on their croissants and sniffing their flowers while rush over to help the tree too!" "Yeah, then we sneak by and we can hold some leaves to hide us!" "Yeah, stupid elves!" They all laughed as they pictured those stupid elves sniffing flowers and helping out the tree in distress. If this doesn't work, nothing will!

Ladies and gentlemen. Hi. Some of you (not many, I'll wager) may or may not have been following the growth of my character Warlen Melimane on the Heroica RPG. Now, it is time. This is the tale of how, so many years ago now, the tale of the Gladeborn, Warlen Melimane. And Quarion. Long ago, and by long I mean several years ago, Warlen was still living with his kind, and Quarion was still... living. Quarion was a rouge, who had come to the kingdom of the elves to help them defeat a dragon, by the name of Nebulae. He was bored for the first few days, so he took to wandering the forest, and it was by the river Darguill that the rogue met Warlen Melimane. He was practicing his wood Magic, and they soon became firm friends. On the day when he was deemed to fight Nebulae, the great dragon burned Quarion with dark flame from the pits of hell, scarring him and setting in motion events that no Elven cleric could heal without corrupting themselves. And so up came Warlen, a young Elven mage back then, and he cast a spell that meant his friend would live... with both reward and price. Despite being a Mage, not a Cleric, he did it. Somehow, impossibly, incredibly, it worked. The reward? Quarion was alive, and without his body, his mind could think freely, therefore allowing him to be amazingly intelligent. The Price? He was reduced to a floating, flaming head, and stripped of his Rougish powers. But Warlen paid a far worse price. The darkness corrupted him and his staff, so that he became a slave to the forces of dark Magyk, against his will. Thay left the Mages, and Warlen emptied his small home of all his belongings, and we began our journey. Ever since, they have traveled the land searching for cures. Hello guys, I have not been very active in the GoH over the last year after the "Age of Mitgardia - Military" contest. Now I have managed to build something that would fit for GoH again and I hope that more will follow in the future. Though I am in the guilds of Mitgardia, I hope I am allowed to post a creation that is more Avalonia-based. I built all Lego elves sets that I have, and here is my Elvendale. I really like the castle (41078: Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle), it is my favorite set. Sets in the picture: 41071, 41072, 41074, 41075, 41076, 41077, 41078 and 851341.

I hereby present the Elves of Historica as I envision them, from across the Guilds. I've had these mostly assembled for almost a year now, but I was waiting for the new Hobbit sets to make final determinations. I am sure things will change once wave 3 of the Hobbit sets come out. I will be significantly increasing the size of the Sacred Oaks clan and the Evergreen clan once I pick up my many Mirkwood Elf Army sets. I did borrow the TMNT helmet concept from Ecc, but I already had Legolas and the Fili or Kili torso slated for Mitgardia. I knew I wanted to use the TMNT helmet somewhere, but I hadn't really considered them for Elves before. C&C Welcome!

I was going to ask this question in the LotR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion Thread, but then I figured it might be better suited for it's own topic because a poll can be used here. This thread is also meant as a discussion about the pros and cons of buying each specific number of Mirkwood Elf Army sets. If mods disagree and want to merge it with the other thread then by all means. Personally I was planning on buying about 10 of the MEA sets in total. After taking a closer look though, I think 5 seems like a much more reasonable number. That way I can still get a good number of elves, orcs, and Wargs without going to crazy with the elves (or Thranduils). I will probably end up just buying another 10-20 Gundabad Orcs (with hair) on BL for hopefully under $4 a piece, 5 more elves to make it an even 20, and then buy 5 or so more of the dark brown Wargs. I am guessing the Wargs should easily be under $7 and closer to 6 since they are going to be available in such a cheap set (almost half the price of the Warg Attack set the gray Warg came in). Right now the gray Warg is barely over $8. As I already mentioned, I have no need for 30 more elves that 10 MEA sets would give me. I just got 20 of the Mirkwood Elf polybags last year so that would give me 40 green hooded elves and over 50 elves total! More importantly though, I don't want 10 Thranduils. Unlike Eomer in the Uruk-hai Army set, Thranduil's head piece makes him way to distinctive to serve as anything but Thranduil. With Eomer it was pretty easy to mix him in as a standard Rohan grunt. For this reason, and also the inclusion of so many elves, I don't see this set selling anywhere near as well as the Uruk-hai Army one did. I personally bought over 20 Uruk-hai Army sets and I know there were others who bought many more than that. People on average seemed to buy way more of that set than the 1-3 MEA they plan on buying too. So, how many Mikrwood Elf Army sets do YOU plan on buying and why?
