Impressive. I only have cardboard boxes separated by color. I'll eventually separate each color into parts, but who knows when. I'm guessing you bought Green Lantern. Very fun build actually. I liked how it did the missiles. But I agree, some weird parts that may or may not be useful. I'll keep them in my colors, since that is how I separate stuff

Lego classic town and space minifig questions
TheLegoDr replied to Chris1594's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Not to hi-jack the thread, but is there a way to tell with Black Falcon figures if they are the newer TRU version or the originals? I recently purchased some from a LUG member, but they looked to be in too good of condition. And at the time I completely forgot about the TRU kit that came out a few years ago, so I thought I was getting really good condition classics, but now I wonder... -
What kind of budget do you set?
TheLegoDr replied to TheLegoViking's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Ultimately I don't have a budget. I need to since we have other monetary obligations, so LEGO goes to the back burner. But if/when I am able, I try to pick up some smaller sets I want. The larger sets get put on the waitlist until double points/holidays basically. My birthday the last few years goes to LUGbulk, which actually is upsetting since there are so many sets out there I want, but pieces are good too. I haven't ordered from bricklink in forever. There are lots of projects I need to work on, but I never have time to touch LEGO. If it wasn't for the occasional downtime at work to look online at LEGO, it wouldn't be a hobby anymore...sad. -
^^I agree. I said something similar last year. I'd love more existing parts in colors it wasn't previously available in. Just think of what some people could build with the right color/brick. I think it would only work if LEGO went back to making bulk LEGO packs instead of actual sets. I don't think you could justify having this large variety of bricks in certain colors it if didn't work in a set. So I think for now, LEGO has been doing a decent job getting old pieces in new colors to us. It has just been slow going. ^And I know what you mean. I don't live near a LEGO store, but it would be nice if there was an official website regarding when the walls change and what is currently available. Brickbuildr is great, but not updated often enough it seems.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd always welcome Bebop and Rocksteady! I don't know about big figs though. -
There was a future of SW contest a few years ago. I thought for sure I did this same idea (not that it isn't an obvious one). But looking back at the Flickr picture I posted, it was actually old man Luke with a wooden lightsaber as his cane. Old man Han and Old lady Leia were inside waiting for his arrival.

^That's interesting. It could very well be true, but it may have been a polybag from the start to entice people to buy the set upon release. It is interesting how it ties so well together. I don't recall the hot dog vendor from a few years ago going very well with what was available at the time, or was that when the Mixer was available for the first time? I bought Orthanc and received the hot dog vendor, so it didn't line up with what I bought I guess I should say... I do like the addition of the Highlander. I would consider doing something similar. I actually like the flat roof on the back too. I still think it needs work on the front in general, but I like the increase in size. For whatever reason I have a mental block on using up the entire back of the baseplate. I feel I need to leave SOMETHING for some reason. Officially it was like that, but Palace Cinema changed things, right? The back corner baseplate is entirely filled in for the theater, whereas CC and GE both had little cutouts. I wanted to mod TH, but I was leaving some extra studs on the back exposed, maybe I should push it back farther. It isn't like I have a vibrant city on the backs of the buildings.

I guess I'm not that big of a DC fan. I know nothing of Teen Titans... I really only knew who Batman was (because he is all that needs to be known. He is Batman) The Jokerland set sounds good. I'm curious on the figures. I only buy super hero sets FOR the figures, so a set that has multiple figures I don't want/need, limits the appeal. I didn't buy Arkham either because as cool as the set was, I didn't want to spend that kind of money for a few figures I needed. So I bought the few figures online and called it good. Now we are getting yet ANOTHER Ivy and Penguin...I really hope they are variants at least. If they are the same as they were, then I guess I'll be not purchasing the set. Deathstroke can go either way. I only heard of him because of Arrow.

Overall they've done well with figures in this line. The sets are hit/miss. I think the new movies weren't as good as they could/should have been, so that probably hurt sales (if others thought like me). Granted, I still want the sets and genuinely like the sets. Middle Earth LEGO was my favorite theme, but it wasn't handled properly. With that said, it definitely has been difficult seeing the sets available near me. Granted, I don't have a LEGO store near me (~3 hours away). But I've only ever seen the smaller 3 at ONE Target, and the Smaug set at TRU (of which I went there in mid December). I have yet to see any really since then. And of course nothing ever at Wal-Mart. Either they have sold the small amounts the stores purchased, the stores didn't get enough in initially, or they just didn't get any in because of lackluster sales records with the theme. Granted, Chima is constantly discounted and they keep getting new sets of that. Tough to say with these decisions. But I'd love to get Smaug and the figures, but I didn't care much for the set AND it was definitely too expensive for what you get. Yes, large molded figures will take lots of money to make, but if the 10 cents/piece rule applies (which I know it isn't exact for all sets), then basically Smaug is going for $50 just in that set alone...which sadly is still cheaper than what eBay thinks.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree, the Modular would make more sense for IDEAS for a large scale set. However, I don't see it happening. As bland as the museum is compared to the official modulars, they would have to re-work it quite a bit to fit in. A lot of people keep talking about how great it looks and how it fits in, but it really doesn't. Look at all of the other modulars. They are more colorful and "fun" than this. The argument is, well museums don't have to be colorful, and you are right. But to fit in with the rest, what would look better? A bland museum facade that is essentially monotone, or adding in some splashes of color? The Grand Emporium is tan, but it has white, light bley, and dark green to help out the tan. But it's the same debate about Market Street being official or not. That is bland too and it is colorful. I think it comes down to non-LEGO designers just can't compete with LEGO designers (on most things). That's why they have the job and we do not. I've seen some great MOCS out there, but it doesn't mean it would do well as a set. I'll bide my time and see what wins in the end. If the museum wins, then congratulations to the designer. -
I think the best option here is to just move where LEGO is more plentiful. That solves one problem Before I really came out of my dark ages, I fiddled with LDD for a few months, but haven't touched it since. Real bricks are preferable to me, but also I quit having enough access to a computer outside of my work computer.

21110 Research Institute available at S&H
TheLegoDr replied to TheLegGodt's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's a neat little set, but definitely NOT worth the after market prices. It's a VERY simple build with limited pieces, so...Outside of the astronomy printed tile, it has mostly easy to find pieces too... I did get one from LEGO when they re-released it prior to Christmas, but my daughter has been pretty vacant about it. She actually has been preferring my Milano with Gamora set...odd. -
Interesting idea. I was wondering what a dark blue Modular may look like. the design of the building is interesting. Obviously, it is Fire Brigade through and through, but it is an interesting concept. I really like the interior. I don't know too much about life back when this would have been built, but this seems really neat. I'm not in love with some of the exterior features, but it definitely sets it apart from other MOD/MOCs.

I have read some reviews on S@H, but I mostly stick with reviews on Eurobricks, mostly for the depth. I like the variety of angles of pictures and the more describing of what to like/not like. Although, I have also done a handful of Brickset reviews. That gives some insight into sets. I think with the little time I have, I end up not doing reviews only because I have other things I could be doing. But if I had more time, I would certainly do more reviews. I like reviewing things. And it is usually longer than "best set ever" or "worst set ever."

I liked series 9, just for the number of figures I wanted/liked. My favorite figure is the Revolutionary Soldier though. A great update to the bluecoats (this was before the new Pirates theme was announced). Plus the wig was a nice addition to era figures.
-
I agree. Similar sizing would be important. Medium blue was big back then, but since then LEGO has introduced many new colors. I'd also recommend a change to color. So is the idea to recreate the official Market Street with updated pieces/techniques OR to create an entirely new "market street" that looks nothing like the previous one released?

Let's do this on a reverse. Build a bakery Modular that is a front for illegal flowers... I'm thinking one flower cart is too ginormous. I didn't get one because it sold out so quickly, but even then, I think I'd want to modify it. It seems too tall maybe. I don't know.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'd think that certainly factors in, especially if you won't see it in the end build. But it also would go along, what is on the pipeline currently that we could use as that random hidden support piece. It's like the extra 1x2x2 windows in the Town Hall that are used as support under the main floor. They already had tons of those in the set, so what is another couple instead of trying to get a 1x2x2 piece that wasn't anywhere else in the set. I think it takes a lot more effort than people realize to design a set AND produce it efficiently. I'd love to take a factory tour. I'd actually love to see all of the inner workings of everything at LEGO...even the boring business meetings... -
Wow, I am surprised at the high total. That would be about $60 USD...it looks great, but I wasn't expecting that.

I don't love the expansion, but it is a great start. Definitely things I'd do differently, but we are all different builders with different ideas. But I am liking the wider barbershop area. I prefer the wider interior of the pool hall; however, I don't love the wider front facade. It makes me wonder if maybe I should add more to these sets, although I don't have the budget to buy 2 of any of the Modulars. Too many other sets require my money..grr.

I know I have definitely killed my share. Not sure why. But it happens..

Minifigures Series 13: 33 packs opening
TheLegoDr replied to BrickSev's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Galaxy trooper armor is brand new. Definitely an appealing figure. Be careful with the female samurai armor. It is so flexible, if you push too hard on the front (like when feeling bags) you will permanently create stress marks and it ruins the look. -
Really neat. I was about to comment on those clock faces. Definitely improved Big Ben. The Tower Bridge is a nice size and detail for the scale. A good idea for sure. I had considered something similar before too. Although I do own Tower Bridge, it's still sealed. I just don't have the space to display it properly, so I am biding my time on building it. Plus, the repetitive nature may not be fun either..

The Oscars is still a thing? I enjoyed the LEGO movie, but it isn't the best thing since sliced bread. But what really is? Sliced bread is the best...err, what was I talking about?

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I really enjoy the Marvel cinematic universe, but I can't understand the desire for a ginormous helicarrier. Who has room to display it? And who will have money to afford it (along with all of the other Marvel sets, plus other themes they may want)? Just seems odd to me. I definitely agree on a larger scale Marvel build since they haven't had any so far, but this seems too large and too expensive. It may look amazing. It may be my most favorite set ever, but I just don't see how most people will be able to justify that expense. That's more than my car payment!
