Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don't love the constant figure duplicates. I thought there were a lot of IM duplicates, but it looks like at least 3 version maybe? Based on the pictures, the names are different. Leg printing would be nice, for certain characters, but I don't know if it is necessary for everyone. The overall printing is significantly more detailed now than it used to be. So that says something. The new Hulk looks good, but I can't be so sure about the other new figures until I see better images. Hulkbuster is too big IMO also. I don't know much about it, but it seems too big. Granted, wasn't there concept art of the size difference and it was bigger in the movie also? -
I guess I hadn't noticed it being too thick at the neck with Storm. Is that the same material as the Hobbit capes for Galadriel and Elrond? I guess I don't remember how they felt.

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looks good. I was already sold on them, but seeing them again makes it a must. I really don't want to buy two Kitty sets, but I may have to so I and my daughter can have one. I didn't care for most of the 2014 LEGO movie sets, but 2015 is making up for it. I want all three! -
Not making a LEGO theme too kid friendly? That sounds contradictory...it is a toy after all. I'd love to get some new monsters. But I'd hope they wouldn't re-release the same monsters that MF did, considering a lot of them were already re-releases of CMF monsters from previous years... I'd like some variety. A LEGO mystery van would be welcomed. I doubt it will look that good though. We'd need something IDEAS related like the Ecto-1 to make it worthwhile. But maybe I'll be surprised. But until LEGO confirms anything, OR actual pictures are leaked, I wouldn't call anything confirmed.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am considering the story along with any physical play features to be a play feature in itself. But there isn't much that I can think of. The DO has the removable hidden areas to facilitate the barrels of goods. The TH has the elevator I guess as a play feature, especially since they haven't put in another one, just stairs. But in that same breath the revolving door on the GE could be a play feature instead of a neat detail. I guess the DO does stand out a bit in that regard. I doubt they would do a pharmacy, period. Let alone one with any play features. Not much to do there. It seems, medical world is only a small amount of LEGO's City line. Although you'd think plenty of kids want to play as a doctor or nurse. -
So I did read the cape is of a different material. I wonder what the longterm durability will be like. The Vitruvius from the DVD set ripped in half by the neckhole. Very cheap fabric. I realize that is a Chinese factory figure, but how can "cloth" be so terrible too. I really hope that isn't the start of things to come.

Well, USPS is probably short staffed..they typically only ever have one window open whenever I go in with a Loooooong line. Either way, I did receive an email too. It seems silly to offer double points that close to Christmas, since I bet most people wouldn't receive it by then. That seems like a quick turnaround time. Much faster than what they usually do.

Every child is different, whether gender roles are there or not. As Peppermint_M pointed out, people can like a variety of things, regardless of what society/parents tell them to. My daughter loves princesses, but in the same breath wants to shoot her bow and fence with me with our lightsaber blades (all while wearing a dress and fancy jewelry)..I see nothing wrong with this. She prefers dresses/skirts, but likes other "boy" activities, does that make her a boy? No. Does it make her less of a girl, or less feminine? No. Cracked has had some problems lately. I quit reading it a few years ago because the research quit being as thought out as it was when I first started reading it. Maybe different management/editors/staffing? I don't know. Either way, Since the Almighty LEGO said it be so, we should abide. The dude does.

There was a law that passed recently forcing online retailers to collect sales tax also (or it will be passing soon?). Either way, LEGO now collects taxes. I think they have for most of this past year because since I live nowhere near a store (and there isn't one in my state) I always ordered online, and I remember getting hit by tax a lot this year.

Bricks & Pieces section "I want to buy a piece" won't
TheLegoDr replied to Prince Manic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
BnP does this yearly. They have holiday too AND probably catalog updates. A lot of new inventories would be added and it might be difficult to get all orders out in a reasonable amount of time. I believe it is handpicked per order since it can be so unique. -
Green 32x32 Baseplates Sold Out S@H
TheLegoDr replied to KringlesBricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That is too bad about the blue. I didn't need a ton, but still useful. -
I hadn't really ever thought about the order I'd list them in. I like all of them (except for MS), but I'll see what I can come up with by looking at Brickset. 1) Pet Shop: I like having two smaller buildings. I do think they could be a little taller to fit in. I know the argument is that a skyline isn't the same height, but these just feel small next to some of the other sets. 2) Parisian Restaurant: Same qualms as above. I love the exterior in pictures. I have yet to build mine though. So I may not like it as much later. 3) Green Grocer: I would say this belongs towards the top, but since I don't own it and only have a modified version (that I actually prefer) I would put it high on the list. 4) Cafe Corner: Shaping is great. Roof is neat. Colors are odd. Dark blue, red brown, dark red? Who thought of this. 5) Fire Brigade: First modular. A lot of charm. I like the "living quarters" although it does seem weird being two levels but really tall. 6) Palace Cinema: I have yet to build it, but it has a lot of charm too. I can see what they were going for with it and I respect that. I did want an Art Deco version, but this is pretty neat. I did see an old theater recently that had windows along the exterior, but they were all blocked out. I don't know how this would look with red-brown bricks where the windows should be. 7) Town Hall: I love the color scheme and the size. I think overall it looks too tall for the width. Like many I have modified it (or have plans to modify it). But my modified version would put it higher on the list. Since this is the official list, I'll leave it down here. 8) Grand Emporium: Unfortunately it made it lower on the list than expected. It hits exactly how that building should look. I don't even mind the repetition of the build. I love the color scheme together. It just ended up being lower because this line has so many great sets. 9) Market Street: I think that sums it up. The blue is okay. Dutch architecture is okay. But something just seems off with this one. The constant window seems odd for sure. The alleyway/market area to nowhere seems useless, although the gate entry with the owl is actually really neat. Detective Office....who knows where that will line up until I actually build it. Color scheme is decent. Build looks interesting. Odd with the unusable space above Al's.

I don't love how it looks compared to other modular buildings. I've said it before. But looking at the Photoshop I think I might be the only person that prefers the blue. I think in the smaller width the light blue works, but when you expand it, it is too much. Switching it to brown just makes it boring. With that said, I typically don't alter the sets. I like working in that footprint. Limits to scale makes you more creative. With that said, again I must be alone, but if I were to mod this set, I wouldn't change al's, I'd actually change that ugly brick facade on the pool hall. Just interesting how everyone is different.

I saw it available last Friday, so I immediately ordered it for my daughter. After missing it originally, I decided I didn't care about it. But seeing it available again I figured my wife would be upset if I didn't get it. I used up my VIP points since we are in a money bind..but now I can't afford the Candida for free...That's life I guess.. And what do you mean bnp is closed until end of January? I didn't realize a website would close do you couldn't order from it. Why would they want extra money? I guess to bricklink I go.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'd say I want the whole wave. Much better than the current marvel line up where I only bought two cheap sets. This I will pick them all up and I guess sell the extras since there are so many duplicate figures..I realize it is their movie, but I don't need a dozen Batman, Harry potter, Jack sparrow, out and of these superheroes... -
Printed vs. Stickered Bricks - some data
TheLegoDr replied to 62Bricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Interesting result, although not surprising. I think stickers count as "play features" since most kids LOVE them. My daughter asks for stickers all of the time. I don't get it. As far as durability, it seems the newer stickers are better than the old 80s/90s from my youth. Most of those have peeled. Only time will tell what happens. -
Really neat. I like how it has part of the castle wall, but you can see the inner working also. I really like the stable set-up how you can look at both levels. Good scene!
-
Well I've purchased a few figures here and there, but have never gotten into Ninjago. Looking at those figures, I am drooling. I don't want to pick up the sets per se since next year will be an expensive one, but I may try to source those minifigures from somewhere/one. They are looking superb.

Nicely done. I like the overall look. I like the last picture more than the previous. I was going to mention having it slightly taller with dark red would help, and it does. I don't love the inverted slopes on the ground floor underneath the second floor. It feels off. Maybe centering them differently? The rest looks good. I really like the simplicity of the entrance with the slopes in dk bley and the white curved slopes front/center on the awning. Keep up the good work. As you can see in my signature, I chose to do a Modular in dark red at one time too. Although I went darker colors instead of white. Interesting to see the differences.

I'm loving that new Batman.

It could still be series 14 since it would be coming out in August/September just in tune for Halloween. But I'll welcome a Scooby doo theme

EB Xmas Raffle 2014 - Your Ideal Christmas Gift entry thread
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd imagine the community team provides these figures at no cost to CopMike. Just like they will give sets to certain reviewers for free, in exchange for a review to help get the word out. Why do you think so many people are trying to have the next big LEGO blog?? -
How different is the color than the Starlord GOTG figure hair? I was thinking maybe Jurassic World hair?
-
I like the extra room with the new banner. It almost feels too tall, but I know how compact the previous was, so it is probably just my brain not being used to it. The festive scene is a nice touch too.

Lego version of CU campus in Boulder CO
TheLegoDr replied to dvsntt's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Impressive. I could see our LUG wanting to do something related to UNL. Although I would probably opt out. Either way, the scale and detail look good here!
