  1. Welcome, by the way! Yes, you still can. Click on your name in the top-right corner to bring down the menu, then go to 'account settings'. On the left, go to 'signature', and type away! You will have to merge all the little train pictures into one file in paint or something first, as only a few images are allowed I believe.
  2. You finally got it working! Well done! (I've been following the progress on this on your WIP channel). This is an impressive layout, and the storytelling/animation is well done too. Have you ever considered trying make a layout modular and taking it to a show or something, or would that be too complex/stressful/time consuming? Thinking about it, it probably would. It's just that I'm sure loads of people would love to see something like this 'in the flesh'...
  3. I think it's just the box where you make your post/comment, so where I am typing right now. You can just paste the link and it turns into a video for you - no hassle at all. Sorry to sound impatient, but this issue hasn't been resolved. It isn't a major issue, but I find it irritating. Is anyone looking into it?
  4. I think this is the right place to post this. The links in the index in the first post just link back to the same page, rather than the selected model for me. Has anyone else observed this?
  5. That makes sense about building from the back and working forwards. Even though it won't happen anytime soon, what do you intend to do once you've finished, other than enjoy all your hard work? Would you ever get bored and rebuild any of it? We have an advantage over traditional railway modellers here! I also think that adding working signals would add another dimension to the layout, and make 'operating' it possible, rather than just 'running trains'. You could work out a timetable and try to keep to it, like the aforementioned railway modellers sometimes do... Not that there's anything wrong with just watching trains go by, of course.
  6. This... this is impressive. If all the scenery is going to be to this high, consistent standard you will have one epic layout. One thing though... how much will this cost? I mean, that bridge can't have been cheap, and it's only a fraction of the layout. It does look excellent however, I like that you're putting effort into other, non-railway related items. Do you have plans for railway infrastructure next, such as a signal box?
  7. Impressive, although I completely failed to understand or even pronounce it's name... Are you saying that it can't be deformed in any way as all the chains act against each other? Or would it just go splat if you picked it up and threw it?
  8. Ugh, it's happened again. Currently in the train tech forum, the 'ask here' special red tag on the general help topic extends all the way across my screen, on both my laptop and phone. I remember this happening before, right after the forum upgrade, but I can't remember if it was ever solved or if the topic just slid down the list out of sight. I can't see it in any other sub-forums, because no other topics have these 'special' tags above their title. Can anyone else see it or is it just me?
  9. Plenty. There is a limit somewhere, but not one anyone is going to find with only a few m-motors running. Batteries won't last as long though, of course. You could put an 8869 switch between the 'box and each motor to individually control on/off and direction, and allow the rides to be spread out further.
  10. That scene looks really nice. The coaches are a little bit tall, but I don't know how to solve that. The station and surroundings look excellent in this scale, how about putting some micro-people in it? I would also recommend switching to actual rails (3228c or equivalent) and train wheels; 50254 for the coaches perhaps (they fit onto part 4600), or the larger 55423c01 to replace the 2x2 round tiles directly. (And have a look at this thread, too; it makes the post more interesting and accessible )
  11. I'm now thinking how to squeeze in a motor into one (an autocoach that is) but I don't think it's possible. Perhaps micromotor+9v cell and modified power clip? With elastic band power transmission... hmm. It would be awesome to see this moving though.
  12. Those pneumatic cylinders are brilliant! Why did they get made?
  13. Welcome! Very good model, instantly recognizable as a GWR Pannier (to me, at least!). Good job capturing it in such a small scale, too. How about trying to represent cab windows with 1x1 technic bricks? Other than that, I can't think of a way to improve it easily. For LDD, which mode are you using? If when it starts up you click on 'extended mode' you get a much larger selection of parts to use; all of them, theoretically. You can then use actual rails and rail wheels, although the latter are probably a bit too big for the scale represented here. Also, you might want to edit the formatting in the first post; most of your text is a link !
  14. My profile picture is a motorized narrow-gauge diesel train MOC that never really worked... it could only just pull itself along, let alone the wagons I have pictured it with. Never mind, it looked good on the tracks! I used it as it had a fairly simple background which I could edit-out a little bit. See if you can spot the driver-fig in it!
  15. It's beginning to make sense... are you just building the scenes from the promotional video? That doesn't explain the little yellow bit in the first picture though. That's a very good model of the oil platform by the way, I especially like the landing helicopter!
  16. 10196 is the older set from 2009, the new one's set number is 10257.
  17. I can see what looks like a micro-scale train in the background, and a yellow tile in the foreground... perhaps it's built in blocks of colour? It would certainly be different...
  18. Nope, that link works fine for me with no adverse effects.
  19. Aah, Ok, that also explains the sunken m-motor for the point changeover outside. A neat solution; things you don't want to see can be easily tucked away.
  20. This is nice. It's not overly big, but big enough to fit some lovely details in the machine shop. It's a shame not many people are going to see it in the layout. Does the shed itself have any details inside? (Oh wait, they're on the Flickr.) I love the inclusion of the crane and pit roads inside the shed! How did you make the pit though? Are the baseplates raised up, or did you cut a hole in the table/baseboards? (I also love that coaling crane outside...)
  21. Oh yeah... oops. I was forgetting that. That is like the earlier steam-era semaphore signals (still in use today) which are either yellow-arm for distant or red-arm for stop, as you said. And yes, @McWaffel's system appears to be freelance, I just wanted to give details on another prototype he could use if he wished. There are many, many options available for inspiration!
  22. In Britain we have up to 4 aspects: red, green and two yellows. Red = stop, 1 yellow = stop at next signal, 2 yellows = stop 2 signals away, green = clear. 3-aspect signalling is more common however, i.e. without the two-yellow phase; that's only necessary on longer, faster running lines. Some smaller lines even only have two aspects (red and green). With advances in LED technology signal brackets have been reduced to only one or two 'lights' anyway as each one can do multiple colours, and only two will ever need to be shown at the same time (see above).
  23. ...and then there's arguments over should we be using our land to grow crops for food or crops for products (biodiesel etc and now plastic for toys)? We use less oil if we can grow our fuel (which is good for our planet), but we still have many underfed countries in the world. Which should be prioritised? At the moment we seem to be making ourselves more land by deforestation. Oh, this world is a mess, isn't it! But I digress. At least LEGO is making explorations into alternatives, it shows the company wants to move forwards and be sustainable at least in the short-term. Good on them.
  24. Whereas I only have 80 sets and 9,288 total parts, but it is still considered 'too large' by certain other family members.... I feel this is a good size, and have almost stopped buying LEGO except for the occasional Bricklink order, because at this size I know roughly how many of each part I have, where I have used a certain piece, what MOC I will need to dismantle to build another one, etc. It's all 'on show' either as built models on a low table or in transparent boxes (sorted by colour so it looks neat and presentable) underneath. It works, but who knows what will happen to it all when I go to university in September... I get the feeling 'certain other family member' will want their table back if I'm not using it...
  25. This is actually an impressive MOD, and makes the set a whole lot more interesting to me with the increased functionality whilst retaining the original looks (if not improving them with the tube routing!). I especially like the 3-way tipping trailer! Very well executed overall. Good job!
