Hi all, I'm mainly a train guy, but I have a mild interest in architecture and an opinion on what I want in building design. This year I decided that I would build a house for our LUG's annual Christmas show, and of course it took me basically the whole year to design and build something I liked. I actually started with three design "concepts" that I felt were worth trying to implement: "open" house, "indoor-outdoor" house, and "workshop" house (this one). I won't say much about the former two since I may still want to build them in the future, but workshop eventually won because I had more issues shrinking the other two (more on that in a bit). The concept behind the workshop house is simple: the bottom floor is entirely workspace and the second floor is entirely living space. That's it. I build scale models for my trains, so I originally intended to make a scale model for this house, but it very quickly became apparent that a scale model would be really, really big, even after I reduced the scope (fewer rooms) of the design. It was only on the third revision that I finally decided to make it more of an "architectural concept" than a scale model, and tried to design it with the same level of fidelity as say a Creator or Modular building. And that's the one I actually built. In this design I also tried to manifest some themes I'm indirectly interested in exploring: the contrast between old and new, open floorplans, and the inclusion/intrusion of nature. For example, the workshop section of the house is built to suggest brick, something very heavy, while the top is designed to look more modern, something more light. The kitchen/dining room/living room are all in the same space, and the only private sections are a bathroom and bedroom. Finally the workshop has wide sliding doors on both ends such that it can essentially be transformed into an outdoor space. Finally, because I was looking at Creator sets for inspiration, the house also folds open down the center. I'm not sure how much play value there is in a thing like this, but at least you can see inside. Looking at the furnishings I can elaborate what I meant when I said "architectural concept" vs "scale model": in this house there isn't explicitly all the things you would need to make it livable, which is what allows to not be huge. There isn't like a shower or a kitchen sink or a refrigerator, rather there is a suggestion that there is a bathroom and a kitchen in their respective locations. Most of the furniture is stolen from official sets. I'm really not into furniture as much as the building-level idea. Those doors aren't really supposed to be clear, but I couldn't find anything opaque, and I wanted viewers to be able to look into the rooms. Finally there is a laundry room on the roof and an opening thing that was supposed to be a skylight (you can see it in the LDD model), but the old skylight piece turned out to be very hard to get. I think that's everything I have to add; there is of course a full gallery if it ever gets moderated, and if you are in the SF Bay Area you can see the house for yourself at the BayLUG Christmas display.

This is a LEGO Ideas project I have made of Rockie - a guitarist that can keep the beat to the music. See more at the project site. I would appreciate if you gave it a look and your support! Rockie's head and neck can move (the same kind of mechanism I used in my Star Wars Bobbleheads) and if you have some music on and tap on his head it looks like he is keeping the beat to the music. See a video that demonstrates this . Rockie is a teenager who dreams of becoming a great music star one day. "Practice makes perfect!" is his motto. So far his only fan is his mouse friend Mac who always sits and listens to his guitar play. He specifically enjoys playing rock music, but also other kinds of music like jazz and blues. -
This is my version of Donald Duck's car in LEGO. It was a challenge to build eventhough it is so small, but of course a fun challenge! I would appreciate if you also had a look at the LEGO Ideas-project here. Some history Donald Duck´s car made its first appearence in the movie "Don Donald" from 1937, and in 1938 it was introduced in the newspaper comics by Al Taliaferro. The design is originally based on an "American Bantam 1938"-car, but has changed slightly over the years and varies from different cartoonists. Its name "The 313" comes from the license plate that has number 313, which also is the day when Donald Duck was born (13th of March). The design is mainly inspired by the original fictiv car "Belchfire Runabout", which you can see in the last photo.

Hi! That is my entry for the new contest: a tractor mixed with a dragster with a cartoon style! I amplified the shapes of a real tractor: I put huge rear wheels compared to the frond ones, there are 2 big headlights on the front of the hood... The only fonction of this MOC is that it is powered by a pull back motor. (Also, you can move the spoiler because it is fixed with a pin with friction, but that doesn't upgrade the playability) The anti-roll bar has a real utility. Without, the tractor finishes on its roof. The shock absorber is really useful: without, at the acceleration, the drive wheels "jump", they are not in contact with the floor anymore, so the motor is not used at 100%. So actually, the tractor does wheelies smoothly. That's all! -

80cm Sonic Before you ask, this is not a digital build. You may discover that the head is slightly (about 5 degree) leaning backward because it is too heavy. I can ensure you that tangible build is much funnier than digital build. I have to pay attention to the structure and balance of the model. Not a huge fan of Sonic, but my daughter is. So, this MOC is built for her. Desired to build this a year ago. The planning stage is long because I need to figure out how to support Sonic's huge head with his thin and long legs. The actual building stage takes about 2 weeks. No glue used. This is a mini version of Captain Future's Comet/Meteor spacecraft from the famous 80s cartoon. Despite its size the construction is actually reasonably stable and the design also allows the wings to rotate freely from the rest of the spacecraft.

Gotta get back, back to the past... Samurai Jack! Armed with a magic sword, a heroic samurai warrior sets out to defeat the evil demon sorcerer Aku. However, Aku transports him into the distant future, where the residents name him "Jack". Now Samurai Jack must find a way to return home to the past and obliterate Aku once and for all! Don't forget your hat, Jack! "Who dares to summon I, Aku?!" Using all the pieces to make his main form, Aku can "shape-shift" by being rebuilt into a scorpion... …or even a winged creature! Hi everyone. I'm new here, and I really, really wanted to show you my latest MOC... the legendary Scrooge McDuck's Moneybin. The project is also available on Lego Ideas (link at the end of the post), but first let me give you a tour, so you can check with your eyes if it's worth your vote . Be sure to scrool the pictures till the very bottom. I promise you won't regret it. LEGO SCROOGE MCDUCK'S MONEYBIN by Matteo Sperati, on Flickr This is the front, with the iconic huge dollar sign. The armored door is the first element of playability: it can be opened and closed pulling the two bars attacched at the side of each half. Also, it is not very clear from the picture, but the small stairway has two lion heads at the bottom, to give the entrance an imposing and intimidating touch As you can see is quite a tall building (33,3 cm, or if you prefer 34 bricks, from the baseplate to the top of the dome). On the roof we have the famous dome, that here I adapted into an helicopter landing pad. I couldn't not include the cannon to shoot at the evil Beagle Boys and a telescope to read the newspapers for free. Ok, now the interior. I wanted this set to be fun for adults to build and extremely fun for kids to play with, so it had to be easy to access every feature. The easiest way was to put the front wall on a separeted baseplate, so all you have to do to 'get in' is to push it away. As for the floors, they can be easily removed thanks to the trail design: they slide in the groove bricks inside the external walls, so it's easy to get into action And now the ground floor. I designed to be the most intimidating possible. Imagine: you are a business man and you have a meeting with the richest and toughest duck in the world. As soon as you enter, you don't have the time to enjoy the nice floor with dollar mosaic because you notice that a security camera is pointing at you. The frame with "TIME IS MONEY" also is not very welcoming, you wait your turn on the green sofa... and then you realize that is placed right in front of a giant anti theft protection cannon. As if it this wasn't enough, you also have a Scrooge McDuck's painting that seems look at you. AND IT IS, because that wall hides a secret passage, with an hole to spy from behind the painting... but what's so important that Scrooge wants to hide? Treasures, of course. What else do you expect from the richest and most adventurous duck in the world? Notice also the black lever to turn back the secret passage ;) Here you can enjoy the anti-theft protecion cannon in action... "Say hello to my little friend" And now the first floor, with the private rooms of Scrooge. On the corridor, a picture of him from when he was to work as gold prospector in Klondike, but most of all, the frame that says "There is no such a thing as talent, only inspiration and ambition". But let's see better the others room... Have you ever tried sleeping on a canopy bed made of 100 dollar bills? Trust Scrooge, you will sleep like a baby Sleep well, but get up early: Scrooge knows it well, he even has a frame in front of his bed to remember it. On the bedside table, a nice family picture from great comic writer Don Rosa. SALON 1 by Matteo Sperati, on Flickr And now the salon, or is it better to call it "Worry Room" ? Why do you think that carpet is threadbare that way? Scrooge's nervous walking, of course. What a shame, it was only 60 years old . We also have a library, a pendulum clock and a marble bust with laurel leaves (I can easily Scrooge get inspired by great leaders from the past). Here is Scrooge, literally showering in money, happy as a baby. He even has the shower curtain made of dollars And finally the second floor, with his big office. This is definitely my favorite floor, I made sure to put EVERY SINGLE DETAIL that I remember from the comics: EVERY SINGLE ONE. There is the giant vault door, the display case with his beloved number 1 dime, the earth globe, the weelbarrow full of coins, the pyramid of coins with Donald polishing them, the money bags, the graphic wih his profits skyrocketing, the gun on the wall, the desk with multiple phones and an old crank calculator... but wait, what's that lever under his desk? This is my favorite feature. I didn't like the classic way to make the trapdoors work, with the stick to be removed and then manually put back. No, I wanted it to feel real, so I designed the mechanism in a way that opens the trapdoor when you push the lever forward, and automatically closes it when you pull it back. What do you think about? Please let me know Ok... now the moment you were all waiting for...what it would be the MoneyBin without the giant money pool with his 3 cubic acres of cash? Let me explain how it works: sure, you could open the vault hatch, but to access the money pool, we actually have to go to the back. The back wall can be removed (it's easy to pull thanks to four bricks that stick out). With the back wall removed, we can admire the money pool thanks to the 9 big transparent panels . We have the trampoline, the giant meter to measure the level of cash... and not a single coin. why? Maybe the Beagle Boys stole it all? No, it's empty because you are the one going to fill the MoneyBin. The MoneyBin is in fact a giant piggy bank, that you can fill through the apposite coin slot on the back of the roof. Once filled, this is the final result AND NOW THE IMPORTANT PART... This is *almost* a Disney train - Linus the 2-4-0 steam engine is from "The Brave Locomotive" that was started by Disney animator Andrew Chatsworth before he got hired, Bill Peet wrote "The Caboose who Got Loose" some years after being let go from Disney, and Conjunction Junction (part of "School House Rock!" educational TV series) was created by ABC, which is now owned by Disney. What am I talking about? Keep reading to find out! Meet Linus the Brave Locomotive, and his driver Henry! (from Andrew Chatsworth's animation on Youtube as seen here. ) I decided to make this 2-4-0 out of LEGO after watching the short over and over, as it's an inspiring tale and very well done animation-wise. I did make some changes to Linus' design from the cartoon, such as adding a number 2 to his tender and cab. I also borrowed heavily from the 2019 Disney train and 2010 Toy Story Western Train Chase sets. (Linus is actually missing one part - the smokestack from the Orient Express. The stack seen above is a stand-in and will be replaced at some point.) The rear of the engine. Sorry for the color issues with some of these photos, it's because my phone camera doesn't like taking pictures of blue objects.... no idea why. On September 29th, 1973, a new School house ROCK (link to wiki page for those unfamiliar with what that is) music video was played for the first time alongside your regular American Saturday morning cartoons such as Scooby-Doo, old Rocky and Bullwinkle show episodes and maybe some Johnny Quest. This new music video featured a diminutive stereotypical train conductor, two hobos (one fat and tall, and one small and skinny), and a train with words on it... not just any words, but CONJUNCTIONS, as the name of the video and location is Conjunction Junction. This train is shown in order above, with comments about what it could possibly be carrying in the fictional ROCK-verse. The first two (NOT + THIS) are obviously Boxcars. The BUT tanker (most likely hauling Butane) and THAT boxcar. Finally, AND (which is possibly a refrigerated goods wagon) plus an OR (ore) hopper. All together, these train cars taught (and entertained!) generations of school-age children and some older adults about Conjunctions, and other videos taught about American history, the environment, math (multiplication tables up to 12 but skipping the number 1), science, money and even early home computers! (among MANY other subjects) All of them can be found on Disney +, as Disney owns ABC, which is who made the original music videos. Heavily inspired by @zephyr1934's MOC of "Katy" from the classic children's book "The Caboose who got Loose" by ex-Disney animator Bill Peet. Zephyr's version can be seen here in his own topic. I didn't want to use stickers for Katy's eyes like what's being done by the original builder, so I decided to use the eyes from set 43186 (Bruni the Salamander buildable character) from the Disney Frozen II line . I also added a actual mouth, as just the two eyes without something between them looked kind of odd, most likely because of the specific eyes I chose. The MOC I based this on used a different method for the mouth using a lot of SNOT-work.... I used a brick with 2 studs on the sides and two quarter tiles to give her a open mouth. The roof has also been modified, and a different stove pipe added compared to what the original MOC has. However, what's a freight train without someone or somewhere to tell it where to go next? Enter the railyard dispatch center, which is not just any old building: it's the Conjunction Junction dispatch office as seen in the education cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock "Conjunction Junction" episode from September '73. I've made some changes to the original cartoon design, such as adding a removable roof to the building (for getting access to the inside details), and placing a water tower nearby for thirsty steam locomotives. The tower top rotates a full 360 degrees with the water pipe, allowing the engineer to pull up, get his loco full of (imaginary) water, shove the pipe away, and move on. Also, there is a dilapidated boxcar behind the water tower for the Junction's two resident hobos. Inside the openable building is a typical furniture for the 1930-'50's time period which I think the cartoon takes place in. This includes: - corner desk with telephone, a railroad oil can, and lantern, plus two chairs - oil fired heater / stove - time clock next to a day-at-a-time calendar showcasing a exotic locale - potted plant, just because! EDIT 11/28/23: Added Katy caboose and Linus - the brave locomotive to the main post, which has been completely redone! Thoughts welcome! -

Hi everyone. Although my Lego building projects aren't normally Star Wars related, I've been collecting the sets and mini-figures for the last 6 months. To bring them all together and to celebrate Christmas, I put together a short comic book style story based on a Christmas Party MOC. I hope you like the idea. Maybe the story isn't the funniest or the most accurate, but it's intended to be a fun first try at something new based on one of our Lego MOCs. I'd love to hear your comments. Thanks, Mike .
