After being captured from her home-world of Chima by a rouge Blacktron III agents, Windra of the Wolf tribe was experimented on and given a synthetic Chi-substitute to keep her from going through withdrawal. This worked, but had the side-affect of mutating her DNA and turning her into a Changeling. Simply put, she could change at will into a larger, more savage, primal and angry version of herself. She can still retain some parts of her regular personality so she could talk, make plans, and even do things she could not do in regular form, such as talk to regular animals at very low frequencies, especially the lava cats that live around the castle where she and her fellow captives where being held. (This eventually helped in the escape of the captives and destruction of the splinter group of Blacktron III scientists.) In reality, this is the great wolf form of this mini-figure (the regular figure is seen above too) and will be used on my lava space base. The great wolf-form came in black originally from set 76084 (The Ultimate Battle for Asgard) as the wolf Fenris, which I recolored to white and modified for Windra. Any thoughts?

Sorry for the 8 month BUMP! This model is Vader's castle, a upcoming Star Wars set (number 75251). But I'm going to retrofit it for my space stuff, specifically, the home of my techno-mage, Analog and his fellow band of runaway rouges from the corrupt Space Police IV regime. My backstory for the building is as follows: The Black Castle and the planet it sits on were once the epicenter of a ancient mega-empire of aliens from an age long past, known as the First Ones. They were ended nearly three billion years ago in a cataclysmic event simply known as The Great Event. Their Empire was besieged by a entity from beyond time itself, possibly from another dimension altogether, which turned the entire city world the castle sits on into a volcanic wasteland, with the shining ivory tower turned black and scarred, it's water feature turned to lava, in a final battle to destroy the evil entity, in which the empire's defender's succeeded, but only just barely. The empire, which spanned the entire LEGO galaxy, fell completely apart without the capital planet. Local species rose up to take over their own planets in time, but by that point any traces of the old empire were only a widespread myth.... except for the legend of the Black Castle. You many know it as the legend of Atlantis, as that was the name of the home planet / city before it fell apart into the volcanic wasteland. (The eons of time and many translation errors may have gotten the name of the method of it's destruction wrong, but it still sank into a sea of liquid, right?) More recently, rouge Blacktron III scientists stumbled across the castle, and set up shop there, performing experiments using equipment from the castle's ancient, - yet still very highly advanced - medical bay on unlucky captives, creating techno-mages, changelings, and many more things that would make even Dr. Frankenstein weep. In a desperate move, these captives rose up from their shackles and destroyed the all the Blacktron that knew of the Castle, thus keeping it's location secret. This ramshackle group still keeps the castle for their own, with group leader Analog and his car Shatter-point running supplies, new recruits, and news back and forth across enemy lines to and from safe houses and the castle. (If you want to see more stuff about what I'm planning to do to this castle, look at the first post!)

Sorry for the year-long bump but I finally got the airplanes designed for Ogel's fleet, which have been added to the first post. Here is a description for the fleet's protocol for the procurement of ancient artifacts: When the troops make landfall at a new location, they scout out a potential airfield site and clear the way for supply planes, fighter escorts, and bombers in case local or native "pacification" is needed. When all this is done and the wanted item is secure, they send for Ogel to personally see it home to his fortress, while the troops re-board the battleship to search for more treasure.
-
I just revised the back-story to this for Ogel to be a bit longer: Born in 1893 as the last heir of the nation that bears his name, (Ogel) William Joseph Ogel was determined at an early age to rule his country with a iron fist. He became Lord (emperor, in effect) of the country in 1910 and heir to his ancestor Vladek's mysterious powers. (today we would call this physic energy "mind control") However, his control oddly ended at the border of his country. Desperate for power, he devised a scheme to amplify his powers using a strange substance known then as Ogelium to be dispersed via an unknown method. (probably via the water supply) Thankfully, World War I intervened before he could enact his plan, and he scaled back his plans until 1918, when the war ended. He had stayed out of the conflict, and secretly built up his military in the process. In 1920 he lost his left eye in a accident with a small sample of Ogelium, after which William kept the glowing ruby-red socket behind an eye-patch from then on. Determined once more to take over the world on his own terms, in 1925 he contacted Lord Sam Sinister to get him objects of great supernatural power. This eventually led him to the un-named jungle island where he and Sinister actually beat Johnny Thunder and company to the treasure at the last minute. Determined not to share the treasure with anyone, Ogel greedily double-crossed Sinister and grabbed the "treasure" for himself and his army of mind-controlled soldiers. Sam then go into a sword fight with William, which William won, but at the price of his left hand. Afterwards, it was revealed the treasure William took was fake, and than Johnny and Sam had joined forces to blow up the temple after the fight. This was done to prevent William from returning and getting the real deal. Furious, Ogel replaced his hand with one of Ogelium and permanently removed his patch so that anyone could see his scarred eye. After having lost his country during a Great Depression-era revolution (started by Lord Sam Sinister in a grab for power which cost Sam his life) Ogel retreated to his island fortress, whereupon he plotted and schemed for around 30 years to regain his evil standing with the world. By the late 1950's, he had gained the notoriety of a urban legend, a myth mothers told their children to scare them to behave. But certain world leaders knew he was real, and still alive due to an mechanical encounter suit to keep him physically fit. After firing a nuclear rocket at the moon in 1965 to announce to his demands for world conquest (or else!), he was the subject of the newly-formed Alpha Team mission, which, helped by an aged Johnny Thunder, sank Ogel and his entire military base to the deep ocean depths. In 1972, he reemerged from the depths using nuclear-mutated sea life to try to conquer the world once more, and was again stopped by Alpha Team. In 1978, he tried to freeze the world solid, in an "If I can't have it, neither can you" scenario, only to be stopped by Alpha team's leader, Agent Zed. In the process of fighting Zed, Ogel was finally defeated by destroying his encounter suit, revealing the frail, 85-year old man inside. Ogel's final act was to take a fatal does of Ogelium, killing him nearly instantly... but not before detonating a remote nuclear device, destroying Zed and much of Ogel Island. ....rumors persist, however, of a clone of Ogel running amok in the world, trying to regain his evil place in the world as late as 2009.... Comments, Questions, Suggestions, and Complaints are always welcome!

4-8-2 Mountain type steam loco - Frisco 1522 - real life MOC
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry for the one-year bump, but yesterday I got the chance to live one of my dreams regarding the real-world 1522 and my LEGO model, and I thought I would share it with you. Ever since I went on the last Kirkwood to Hannibal trip behind the Frisco 1522 in early 2002 at age 8, I've wanted to own a model of the famous burly Baldwin. I've tried many times over the last 16 years (mostly in the last 8) to recreate her, until finally getting it right in late 2017, in LEGO 6-stud-wide format. Then, the museum in which the engine resides opened up the cab for the 16th anniversary of the last ride on the 22nd of September of 2018 (they had never opened up the cab to the public before then and may never again). I tried to get in, but didn't due to unforeseen complications. That is, until a helpful employee let me into the cab to take a couple pictures with me and my model this Saturday, the 29th. All I have to say is, thank you to Sam, who helped me out to get the above photo of me and my model in the cab of the Frisco 1522. Here is a closeup of my LEGO model of the 4-8-2 steam engine in the real-world Frisco 1522's cab it is modeled after. I believe the model is sitting on the diesel link-up computer that allows for the steam loco's engineer to simultaneously control the following diesel locomotive that provides electricity to the train and emergency motive power in case of steam breakdown. -
Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This is Betty MK-II, the production version of a 1960's prototype building cleaner robot by Kristel Enterprises that was bought in large numbers by Classic Space command for modified use on their spaceships exteriors. In actuality, I was inspired by this pretty cool older model named Betty by builder @Kristel to create this robot using some newer parts. I plan on adding this robot to my real-world fleet of model's eventually. Any thoughts? -

Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I finally got around to taking pictures of the revised Astro-Bot 33 (inspired by Hachiroku24's Iron Giant model ) without knees and with the new ankles. It really helped with model stability, which is good because of my upcoming Gateway LUG Christmas display. This will entail the robot to stand for about quite a while without supports or human intervention... I just hope my tinkering is good enough. (If not, I'll just have him sit down.) These two new pictures are in the first post. -

Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The August 17th command center was actually my first choice, but it's cost overruns kept me from ordering it.... $220 dollars was the original price, and it only kept going up from there according to my daily Bricklink custom list-checking, so I did not order it. Also, the final parts on the orange base were supposed to be a stopgap project in case costs kept creeping up on the Classic Space base, but I took a gamble and did not order the orange parts. Instead I ordered the modular Classic space walls using two Bricklink stores' 20% off coupons I had in storage that I'd forgotten about. (I can always come back to the arctic base models later) Anyway, I might use your story idea, as it sounds awesome. -
Love what you've done with the 103 model, and I think the backstory is top-notch awesome! Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see what you do next!

Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This building is just a flight of fancy for the future. I was basically curious to see if 2012's Haunted House (set 10228) would look good with Benny and his space base as his house / command center. I've already got the majority of the parts in other models that would be torn apart anyway to make this, so it's really not that big of a deal to make in real bricks. I took out all the 'ruined' bricks and changed the colors to blue, white, trans-yellow, and light-bluish gray. The model also has a sign on the second floor advertising it's classic space heritage, which means it should have two of this print. As you may have noticed, there are sections of the fortress walls attached to the front of the house. They seems unevenly spaced, but this is because the house is not "in system" with the rigid grid-like wall sections. I made a 6/8 wall section and attached it to one side of the house, and 2/8 connector on the other side. This allowed the house to become "in system" and actually centers it very neatly on the side wall of the fort. Inside the house on the lower floor is TV with VCR player, couch, lamp, table and stove, along with stairs to the second floor. The second level features Benny's bed, curio cabinet, Classic space supercomputer (seen here ) and a model rocket. The attic floor features a model city with monorail and a vintage '80's video-game arcade cabinet. You get to the attic by pulling the outside pin which causes the attic ladder to fold down automatically. The house opens and closes on four hinges, and locks shut on a single Technic pin. Here we see the house connected to the already-ordered modular base walls. Model backstory up to 1988: In 1903, the successful banking tycoon Randolph Keystone died, leaving his business, stately Victorian mansion, and fortune to his only daughter, the budding mathematical genius Sylvia. She and her husband, George Star, would take her father's business to new heights, but also take her education to the forefront of mathematics and science, with a fixation on astronomy and rocketry. Her great grandson, Benjamin (Benny) Star, would sell the family banking business to much of the community's dismay in the mid 1970's, and then began to fill the Victorian mansion with many electronic gadgets, a huge Radar Array, and a large mainframe computer. He also became a college-educated astronomy major, astrophysicist and NASA test pilot dropout (too radical in rocket design for their tastes) before leveling the grounds in what used to be the Victorian hedge maze and gardens just in time for the newly-formed Classic Space force to come knocking at his door in 1978 while looking for a home base. They built tall security walls and a gate around where he had leveled the ground, plus adding noise deadening technology to the house to keep the home's windows from shattering every time a ship took off. Several years later, a bigger spaceport was completed nearby, and by 1986, Benny's rather small base was considered too tiny for use by the newest capital ships and is now used only by commander Benny's personal fleet, with the house has also been converted back to Benny's own usage instead of office space as well. What do you think of this potential model? (backstory idea by @icm) -
BUMP: (Sorry!) First post revised, and new pictures added of both the base and submarine. Here is the story so far: Twenty-seven years after the end of the roaring 1920's, and the demise of Lord Sam Sinister and his friends at the hands of Johnny Thunder & Co. plus the betrayal of Ogel by Sinister, Lord Ogel is ready to exact his revenge! (This event cost Sinister + his evil friends their lives, Ogel his hand, and submerged Ogel's highly advanced country beneath the waves of the North Atlantic in 1929 by way of a mysterious ancient super weapon, by the way.) Now, in 1956, the presumed-dead Ogel is back: his cloaked underwater bases are finally ready to exact his final plan on the surface world: his skeleton drone armies and mutant sea animals are exacting heavy loses on trans-oceanic shipping, bringing down many, many tons of ships for the last six months. The surface nations are clueless, and are pointing fingers at each other as to who is responsible, escalating tension in a Cold War to the boiling point. Meanwhile, the now aged and retired Johnny Thunder is on all-expense-paid luxury cruise of the Caribbean, having just left Miami for the Bahamas. Little does he know an old enemy is waiting there to put a hole right through his plans... and the cruise ship! Unbeknownst to either Lord Ogel or Johnny, a team of super-spies known as Alpha Team are also on board the cruise liner to keep tabs on Thunder, as he still carries a portion of the broken super weapon that sank Ogel's country on his person as a reminder of his guilt. Alpha Team want to procure the shard for the US Government to research it for a potential power source, but the sinking of the cruise ship by Ogel by his submarine's drill prevents that. Thunder ends up in the same boat as team leader Dash, while the rest of Alpha team end up in a separate life boat. Ogel pulls the two into his sub, taking the shard from Thunder after a brief struggle. Ogel reveals his master plan on the way to his sunken capital base. Lord Ogel plans on causing WWIII between the superpowers by sinking enough ships to destabilize the countries enough that a large explosion (caused by the ancient staff on a coastal city or port on an allied city of either side) could result in a nuclear war. Then, Ogel will use his skeleton drones to rise from the seas to take over what's left of the surface world using the military weapons and supplies plucked from the ships they sank earlier. It is at this point that the sub docks with the submerged base and Ogel beckons the two (now handcuffed) figures out of the ship and into the base proper, where a platoon of skeleton drones take the two deeper into the bowels of the base and far from Ogel....

This vessel, (called Project Upsilon) was Classic Space forces secret weapon against any potential uprisings of any alien, robot, or human race outside of the Galactic Space Congress. I say WAS because it's death-star level super laser was never used due to a planted Blacktron bomb sending the station and it's crew hurtling through hyperspace toward a black-hole in early 1988 during the early hours of the attempted Blacktron coup. The station was never recovered and almost all of the crew was presumed killed by the black hole except for blue astronaut Benny, who fell off the station before it reached full light speed while doing regular maintenance to the solar arrays. (Benny survived a day floating out of conciseness in orbit off Jupiter II before being found by retreating Congressional forces. He still wears the broken helmet and smudged suit from that day as a reminder of the eternal sacrifice of his fellow two crew members that were lost. He was, for a time, secretly considered with suspicion regarding the loss of the ship by rouge operatives of the Galactic Space Congress' black ops division.) Thirty-one years later in 2019, the station is found floating in the very far-off Delta quadrant of our galaxy, completely iced over. The crew are flash-frozen from that horrible day in 1988, and the main computer is barely running on emergency battery power. The clock on the computer is checked by Benny himself: over 200,000 years have gone by! (The ship went inside the black hole which deposited the ship in the very distant past via a time vortex.) The fusion reactors are restarted, and the barely-functional computer begins to wake up the two crew. Then it is discovered that a third frozen astronaut is on board in Benny's bunk, a pink one, who was not on board when the ship was blasted off towards the puncture in space / time. Who is she? Why is she there? The answers may lie inside the thawing mainframe core of the 1980's computer... Here is what I've been working on for a year or so on my computer, and more recently in real life. Overall this 101 studs long beast in real life is quite light, although it's not to easy to hold while taking a photo... I had to have another person help me with this picture as the 14 top and bottom stands that keep it level on the table don't make very good holding points for flight! The eight yellow triangular things are movable solar panels, while the cockpit seats two Classic Space mini-figures. The large super-laser emitter on the front is a Death Star-like cannon, used only in times of last resort against unfathomable enemies to the normally peaceful Classic Space fleet. (this would mean potential Blacktron, Robotron or Spyruis incursions, if it hadn't been sent into a Black Hole and time traveled back 200,000 years within minutes of first coming online in 1988.) The ship featured both a dual fusion reactor system and solar panels in eight moving segments as a backup in case of emergency as well as powering the super laser. This would prove vital in keeping trajectory equipment's backup batteries charged and cryogenic crew storage frozen solid for several hundred-thousand years.... you never know how long this station would have lasted otherwise on just fusion alone! The brand-new cockpit should seat two figures, ideally the yellow and white astronaut's from the Benny's Space Squad set. (70841) The solar panel's intense energy from even remotely nearby stars powers the super-laser. (In case you were wondering what those black-and-white pods were on the solar panel wing struts, they are small maneuvering rockets.) The rear of the ship. I was inspired to create the engine pods on the space station after seeing a older post by Flickr user Karf Oohlu as seen here. The access hatch to the inside of the station is visible at the extreme rear near the two engines. I plan on using the white, yellow, and pink astronauts for the lost classic space crew of Classic Space station Upsilon. Benny was also part of this 1988-vintage crew, but managed to loosen himself from the Blacktron-sabotaged space station before it reached the black hole whereupon it vanished, presumed destroyed, with it's crew (minus Benny, who was badly damaged but ok) assumed dead. NOTES: I would have put this SHIP (which stands for "Serious Huge Investment in Parts", in case you didn't know!) in with my other Classic Space stuff, but I think it's best to keep mini-figure scale base and this major space ship separate, as it's not meant to land on planets' surface's. Anyway, this is my first SHIP, and most likely my last one as well. EDIT: main post edited and pictures revised 9/03/19. Real life pictures added! Comments, questions, suggestions, complaints and such are always welcome.

Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
After going to my local LUG meeting today to display my Classic Space stuff and having the robot fall over and apart (again), I have come to the decision that the knees were too fragile for it to work with the upcoming LUG Christmas display. (This will entail the robot to stand for about a month-and-a-half without supports or human intervention, unless it falls apart again!) Thus, I replaced the knee joints using the method shown in the picture above. The lower leg does rotate freely now, but that's the price I'm willing to pay for having the robot not topple over at the slightest breeze or bump of the table. Any thoughts? -
Wild West - Trains, Town, Military and mini-figures
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
In this picture you will find handy pointer arrows to each updated building and words describing what it's function is supposed to be. The only building missing from this picture is the town's train station, but that was a bit obvious looking with the tracks, platforms, etc. The bank and the train station are the only two buildings already built in real life... and the bank still needs work to be 100% finished. Each building is open back for play-ability and almost all of them have inside details except for the town hall. (as I was not sure what to put in there) I eventually want to put signs on all the buildings designating each business, either using printed 1 x 1 tiles or carefully placed stickers. The Sheriff's Office with exploding jail cell is mostly from Colby City Showdown (set 79109) while the bank is heavily modified Gringotts Bank from Diagon Alley (set 10217). The rest of the buildings are designed from my imagination. To be built in early 2019, hopefully by March!- 109 replies

I'm personally hoping the riverside boathouse either turns out to be side-wheel or stern-wheel steam boat, or even a keel boat... I really don't care, as long as it's looks loosely Western. No matter how small, I hope it will be a boost to me and my slumbering Wild Western layout!- 280 replies

Benny's Classic Space models - spaceships, robots, and buildings!
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This model was heavily inspired by set 75916: Dilophosaurus Ambush from the first series of Jurassic World sets. I'm thinking about adding two of these jeeps (and a bunch more astronauts) to the base at some point in 2019. The rear of the vehicle has a spare tire, license plate and tail-pipe, plus the roll-cage folds back to allow for you to place the driver in the seat. -
You can find the LDD file here at Bricksafe @supertruper1988. Thanks for the video @dr_spock, it's a shame you don't have it together anymore. Oh well, maybe someday a version 2.0 will be built?

MEGA BUMP: (sorry for this!) The plow's main body was slimmed down from eight wide to six wide, and roof line was heavily revised. The doors are now open-able, and the wheels are now light-bluish gray, but I sadly still haven't figured out how to motorize the rotating blades. The rotary snowplow model is supposed to be built in early 2019 to join the rest of my Museum of Transport models as seen above. Any thoughts?

General Motors Aerotrain - 1950's prototype diesel passenger train
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry for the mega-bump, but I finally figured out how to get a picture of my LEGO model sitting on the real Aerotrain. If you look real close in the shadows near the giant "3" placard under the triple headlights for my model, you'll see the LEGO engine by itself. This was the best picture I could take of the two together, after multiple attempts at several spots and angles. I would've put the rest of the train up there, but that would've been overkill and the space used wasn't big enough for all five cars + the loco. Next up on my agenda of trains from this museum is a rotary snowplow... which also happens to be my last train for the foreseeable future, as I just can't think of anything that really excites me right now. Any thoughts?
