Well, the train cars seen above aren't going to happen this year. But maybe next year, by this time, (hopefully) they will. On a more positive note, I made this hover-tank for use with the nexus force which should see action in January.... I hope. The All Terrain Hover tank (otherwise known as an AT-HT) prototype was designed by Imperial scientists long ago. It was stolen by rebel soldiers who, in in their haste to escape from a small moon-shaped space station descending on them, got their overclocked hyper-drive to send them far far away from their home galaxy to the milky way before their ship crash landed on the far side off the planet the Nexus Force landed on in 2011. Before, the crew all died of extreme old age, many eons before the ship's wreckage was discovered, they set this story I've just told on a message disc for future explorers to find and relay... along with the AT-HT secure and intact in the cargo hold. When the Nexus Force found the wrecked ship so many years later, they took the prototype tank back to base. It took a while to figure out it's drivers manual, but after a while, they got it working. They then set about making more of them, as they were impressed by it's firepower and range capabilities. So far, they've made about 15 (plus the prototype) of them for defense of their base in case a battle should occur. In reality, this model was based mostly on set 75152 (Imperial Assault Hovertank) and a turret from 75080 (AAT). The model has been updated to have the Nexus Force orange, white, and grays, color scheme as shown on all the models I own of this theme. I plan on using the 2014 Arctic printed slope for the logo on this tank when I get two of these models in the new year. The front seat is the driver, the second seat the gunner, the one in the turret is the commander. As no gun needs to be reloaded, (energy weapons, no shells) the gunner doesn't need to be near the turret to control it.

I originally got this basic model from a page on Bricksafe by user @sed6 as seen here. I revised the freight door to be movable, changed the roof color to dark red from black, building color to sand green from tan, plus I added a "cast iron" heating stove and it's chimney flue to the model for late-1800's period look. This station will go along with my western stuff on my layout as seen in this topic here. The platform side of the station. There is plenty of outside seating on both the left and right sides, yet they are still under the roof awning to be protected from rain. (three seats per side) The model features the separate entry doors to the station premises for cargo and people on the both the street and track sides. Inside we have the freight area (on the left) and the passenger area (on the right) with a connecting door between the two. The passenger section also has the heating stove which currently is keeping the coffee hot. (or is it boiling the water for tea?) This part of the station also has three inside seats for weary passengers and a cash register for ticket dispensing. The station is modular, and comes apart in four sections: - Left platform end - Right platform end - Station roof - Station building I was originally going to build the Disney station in blue, but the projected price was out of my budget, so I settled for this one. This is is just as good, if not better, because everybody's got a Disney station now, but nobody but @sed6 has one of these custom depots. (and mine is different from his to boot!) - Real life pictures to come: December 25th, 2019.- Real life pictures added, 12-16-19! Thanks for stopping by, and if anyone needs bigger versions of these pictures, they are view-able at my flickr feed. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome!

This was because I couldn't make @Carefree_Dude 's design "work" in LDD, and as it was untested in real life by me as well, I decided to go with the tried-and-true. This engine will be dropped off almost as soon as it is built in early November into a show for about two months over the Christmas holidays as part of Gateway LUG's display at the Way of Lights event (located at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois) My Wild Western stuff will be there as part of the display. Thanks! That tender design is also used on my 4-4-0, as seen below.
-
As seen here on EuroBricks, user @Carefree_Dude tried his hand at making the new Disney train have working pistons and getting rid of the hideous no-metal-axle wheels. I was very much impressed with the results, and took the pictures and reverse engineered them to have a similar 4-6-0 of my very own. (If the tender looks familiar, it hasn't changed at all from the last version.) However, as you may have noticed, the pistons are different, as they gave me a ton of trouble figuring them out, so I imported a design of my own previous use that I know works. The rear of the loco features a ladder to the tender-top, where the hatch to the water tank is found and also where the neatly stacked wood pile is located . These passenger cars were mostly inspired by set 10014 (Passenger wagon) but repainted red instead of green and with fancy part 30613 "Brick, Arch 3 x 6 x 5 Ornamented" on the end of the cars. I might be mistaken, but Flickr user The Shubes (Isn't he on Eurobricks too?) may have been the one to inspire these coaches with his own red versions of set 10014 as seen here. The end of my passenger train features this little four wheel caboose. It was designed after set 10015 (Caboose) with some features taken from set 7597 (Western Train Chase) This design is now finished in real life, after a record six days from designing on 10 / 20, ordering on 10 / 21, to being built on 10 / 26. That's really fast service by my standards!

I am working on adding these train cars (hopefully) by Christmas. We will see which projects get built and which get pushed back, as their is only so much budget to go around! Welcome aboard the Astro-train! This futuristic stream-liner was a mix of the 1950's Earth train called the "Aerotrain" but redesigned specifically for use by Nexus Force personnel as a high-speed, high-security ground transport between the northern-most city of St. Nicklaus and north-pole-hugging outpost of Ice Station Odyssey, around 590 miles away. (this all takes places on the ice-bound planet of Beta Polaris, which orbits what we here call the North Star, far away from Earth.) Thus this makes it a space train! Unlike the original Earth version, the Astro-train is super-streamlined, and can go up to speeds of up to 230 MPH on special track, with super-elevated curves and long straight-away's of hundreds of miles, all while using Positive Train Control (PTC) on the the mostly double-track mainline, where all vehicle crossings are flyovers and switches virtually non-existent once out of St. Nicklaus city limits. This train runs along with Seven identical versions of itself on the route with up to five in running order on the route and at least one in the maintenance shed at any one time. Also, please NOTE: The train is authorized to make 15 minute stops in the icy wastelands at native villages as requested before continuing on to it's destination. Signal boxes are provided at certain spots to stop the train at the correct spot to en-train, with only village elders having the keys. To de-train, you must pull the cord at least full 10 minutes before you wish to disembark to allow the train to slow down. Only five stops are marked on the route, but several unmarked villages are springing up, so the schedule has gone out the airlock recently. (In actuality, this is a heavily modified version of 2018 Star Wars set 75217 (Imperial Conveyex Transport) mashed up into an 8-wide version of my 1950's Aerotrain model. The model also features inside details and Jacobs bogies besides the lift away side panels of 75217 and removable cab roof.) This loco is missing five printed pieces: (1) slope of this type for the front of the nose, right below the third headlight. It is the Nexus Force's logo. (4) of this round tile for the roof engine exhaust vents. Fold up the walls so you can look underneath at the powerful diesel engine. The roof of the engineer's cab comes off to place a figure at the controls. Each of the four cars can hold four seats each behind the two fold-up side walls. These are the four passenger cars, which are linked together in pairs of two by Jacobs bogies. They can have more two-car sets dropped in or out, but the rear-most car set is the minimum. (as the last car carriers the four tail markers) I thought about adding another two cars, but the price was too prohibitive right now.

Welcome to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry! The whole castle up to fall 2019, including set numbers: 75954 (Great Hall) 75953 (Hogwarts Whomping Willow) 75948 (Hogwarts Clock Tower) and a majorly customized version of set 4867 (Battle for Hogwarts) This model was originally inspired by 2011's Battle for Hogwarts set, to which I added a basement layer to bring it up to 2018 set height. I also redid the roof peaks from sand green to dark bluish gray, and added more inside details. On the left is the Slytherin common room, and above that is the astronomy tower. The dungeon is empty, as it is no longer used, much to Argus Flich's dismay. On the right side on the bottom level is the micro-scale Chamber of Secrets with it's large face in the rear and stone snakes statues. Up a level is the entrance to the chamber, the sink in the girl's lavatory that Moaning Myrtle haunts. Up one more level is a generic classroom. Bridging the two towers (literally) is the stone viaduct is one of the three or so entrance's into the school.... unless you count the seven secret passages! The Great hall, with the dock used by first years to get into the castle proper from across the lake and the train station. Four tables, four houses to be sorted into. Hufflepuff in the top left, Slytherin on the top right, Ravenclaw bottom left, and Gryffindor bottom right. The teacher's sit at the head of the room. Looks like one of the Slytherin kids ordered lobster! Through this courtyard archway Harry Potter and Ron Weasley saw the flying ford Anglia disappear into the Forbidden Forest after it had hit the Whomping Willow. It was not the last time they would see the car however.... The potions classroom (bottom level) and Gryffindor common room (middle level) with the owlery on top. The clock tower set has had it's Yule ball parts removed. I didn't like them, and they dated the set to later point in time than I wanted. Upstairs is the hospital wing, while the middle floor features the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom and the Headmaster's office, while the ground floor features the prefect's bathroom and another exit onto the school grounds. Heavily inspired by Eurobricks user @f2iso100 model of Hogwarts' bell towers (as seen halfway down on page six of this topic here.), I have devised my own model, with some revisions to make it's features more visible amongst all the tan. I made the stone shutters for the actual bell area wooden, and reduced the height of the towers by a good three bricks, as it currently looms over the official sets by a good floor-and-a-half. (10 bricks) The bottom floor features the house points tally counter across from the Tri-Wizard Cup. Looks like Gryffindor and Slytherin are tied for the house cup! The second floor features the Room of Requirement in it's room of hidden things configuration, with the chalkboard from the Dumbledore's Army room, the possibly still broken Vanishing Cabinet, and a few sealed crates. Above that, on the third floor is the Divination classroom. This includes a crystal ball and pink teapot with 2 teacups. Continuing climbing up to floor four, we have the two belfries with the dual "iron" bells that swing side to side. No, they don't actually make any noise. From left to right in the upper row: Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Prof. McGonagall, Prof. Lockhart, Prof. Snape, Prof Flitwick, Rubeus Hagrid, Argus Filch, and a custom random Professor. The students are mostly all as they are in the sets, with the addition of one custom Dean Thomas. More could be added in the future, depending on what Lego releases for the required castle expansion. Until then, this is it, and I hope you enjoyed it. Comments, Questions and Complaints are always welcome!

Slight bump! I've designed a better Hogsmeade station (as seen in the updated first post), and hopefully it will be built next month... I also have finally taken the pictures of the Hogwarts Castle, and plan to upload them at around the same time as the station. Keep your eyes peeled for more pictures in the mean time!

MOC: Flying Scotsman (with free instructions)
Murdoch17 replied to damangos's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have it in my downloads folder on my computer. Let me see if Bricksafe can take it. Hold on.... EDIT: Success @SD100 @JochemvdMeulen! Here you go, the original PDF over on Bricksafe: https://bricksafe.com/pages/Murdoch17/flying-scotsman-build-instructions -
My brother did something really similar with his Darth Vader's castle set, as seen on his Flickr feed. (I helped with some picture taking on these early shots) He turned it Blacktron III with trans-bright green windows and lime accents.... among other BT3 stuff such as 2x light-cycles, an Emperor's shuttle and so on.... As for you, @hagridshut, I would say the list you have is awesome so far, so stick with that for now.... don't want to bite off more than you can chew at one time! But for the long term: give the SPIII someone to fight: maybe the Black Hole Gang needs a hideout? What about a dilapidated version of the Lockwood manor set from Jurassic World? Wooden (brown or dark tan) planks across broken windows, the big dinosaur being one of the crew's "pet's" (maybe Brickdaddy?) and the inside featuring areas for their treasures to sit and be counted.... along with their prisoners / dino snacks!!

OCTAN diesel refueling depot with Santa Fe Bluebonnet F7 units
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
BUMP: It's taken me a couple years (2, actually) from start of design to this late stage of tweaking, but the main fuel depot model's parts were ordered on 9/30/19, and should be built in real life soon. However, the tanker truck (or something like it) will be a later addition.... I couldn't order It right now as I'm not too sold on it's looks. That portion may change by the time this is finally 100% done. Any suggestions, questions, or comments about all this? i just updated the main post with new pictures of the final depot design and sort-of final truck model.- 12 replies

Thomas the Tank Engine - MOCs of locomotives and rolling stock
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
(slight bump) Look out everybody, Diesel 10 is back and he means business!! Here we see him chasing Lady and Thomas on the Magic Railroad... check out the first post for more details on this devious diesel (and I added Thomas too)! Oh, and @Sérgio, thanks for commenting. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. -
Wild West - Trains, Town, Military and mini-figures
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I plan on placing a custom US civil war-era flag above the main gate.... I just have to order it, plus a Confederate flag for the wandering band of renegade troops who decided not to surrender in 1865, and a cavalry battle flag or two for my Union commander. I really wasn't sure what to put inside the fort as when I scaled it up, the blank spaces just became bigger.... I need to work on making those area less obvious. (I'm looking at you, 100% blank wall!) \ Side note: I'm hopefully going to have 16 of these cacti sitting on the Western layout come November. The design is an old LEGO Club one from the Lone Ranger era that I reverse engineered and strengthened with a rod going through it.- 109 replies

Wild West - Trains, Town, Military and mini-figures
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I can't wait either @KotZ! I hope you like my latest teaser of what I've been up to: This is an updated and vastly enlarged form of sets 6769 / 6762, (Fort Legoredo) with new parts and some modifications to the original set. These new parts include two cannons which oddly are missing in the original sets. (You will note the battle damage to one of them, as I ran out of brown 1 x 2 log parts and fell in love with the look.) I have heavily modified this model from it's original set state by adding Technic pins to hold the sections together, and by filling in the gaps in the wooden walls. The jail cell has also been enlarged and opened up for play-ability, plus a train platform had been placed at the secondary gate (opposite the main one) for loading and unloading soldiers and equipment. What do you guys think?- 109 replies

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, but it though this would be the best place for it! So is it just me, or does the new Gingerbread house look like it could be heavily modified (I.E. remove the candy features and introduce tan tiles over windows, renovate the exterior fireplace, and such) into the Shrieking Shack? (not my picture, it;'s from Brickset's review of the set) The white piping con the walls ould stay, as could the rooftop snow and brown framework, but what about the rest? What would be good for windows, for example? I was thinking about trying it out in LDD once the instructions get released...

This modular Victorian-era train station was inspired by set 71044, Disney train and Station. It now has a chimney flue featuring two fireplaces, freight area with dual sliding doors, and three loading platforms under a large canopy. The street facing portion of the station should have the year 1891 on the studs above the two main doors. (This was the year the 100% fictional station was built.) The large clock on the tower is gone, replaced by a smaller version above the main door to the platform, while the word GLENNCOE (a slight misspelling of a real Missouri town... the real town only has one "N" in it's name.) goes above the right hand door, as this is the name of the station and the town it serves. Also in that general area of the model, you can see I removed the second floor balcony, as I thought it looked better being replaced by a window. The upper floor features the station master's office with desk and telephone, along with a much later addition than 1891, a computer to track train movements. The lower floor features the cargo depot with opening mailbox, and passenger waiting room with ticket desk. Six public waiting chairs are also included on this level. The station comes in several large, easy-to-take-apart sections: -tower roof -second floor hallway roof -second floor -first floor Train track 3-way switch designed by 4DBrix, printed by OKBrickworks. It works like a charm, and is used on the station as a funnel for trains to be switched to the proper platform. NOTES: This real-world picture of the REAL Glencoe station is from 1910. It no longer exists as a building, and this is the only known photo I could find, taken from the Facebook group, "Missouri railroad depot's and structures". (I had to ask if anyone had seen a picture, and this was it.)The rail line passed through there from the mid-1850's to the mid-1940's, when it was moved to it's current alignment, and the old one abandoned to nature. However, a little 12-inch gauge ride on railway now calls Glencoe home, as it has since the late 1950's. This station (and any of my LEGO trains lettered for the Wabash Frisco and Pacific, the name of the small 12-inch gauge line) are a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the rail line that has had such an impact on me growing up.. and still inspires me today! EDIT 5/4/21: Added real life pictures of the canopy and updated train station to this post. I also changed the formatting a bit. Some pictures of the inside details remain to be changed over to the newer style. (I.E. with the canopy showing, not the old singular platform) As usual, comments, questions, and complaints are always welcome!

We will just have to see what the future holds!

Wild West - Trains, Town, Military and mini-figures
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This new train station was inspired by set 71044, Disney train and Station. It now has a new chimney flue featuring two fireplaces, freight area with dual sliding doors, and a longer loading platform of five tracks in length. The clock on the tower is gone, replaced by a double sided clock above the center door and where the word LEGOREDO should be spelled out in printed 1 x 1 tiles. Now, I know this is a pretty fancy station for a frontier Fort town of the American Wild-Western period, but I'm going to say that since the town is in the middle of a twenty-year silver rush boom (circa 1873 - 1894), they splurged a bit and made their new train station one for the ages. (Their old wooden one burned down in The Great Prairie Fire of August 1884. The town was largely unscathed by the fire, but the original station was in ruins. See my many other models in their dedicated topic here.) This the rear of the station with everything all closed up. The four exposed studs in the middle of the wall should have the year 1885 in 1 x 1 printed tiles on top of them. (They are not in LDD so they are left off, same as the LEGOREDO ones from the track side of the building.) The inside is accessible via three opening wall flaps and a single lift-away roof section. To get them to open you do as follows: Pull on the two wall lamps to get those sections to open, while the upper left panel is is open-able via the tan brick one the far right side. Also, The middle roof section pops up and off easily, as it is held on by only eight studs. The interior is kinda bare compared to the heavily detailed set it's based off of, but it does feature some basic furniture. The lower floor features the fireplace, desk with old-fashioned cash register, plus three chairs in the passenger depot, next to the door to the freight section. Upstairs is bare for now except for the fireplace. BUILDER'S NOTES: I might not be able to get this new station done in time for the Christmas-time Lego show I am putting those other Western models in, but the new station will be able to built with this one without using any of the old brown one's parts... so it's not like I'll be missing a station or anything in the display. I've already got most of the blue wall bricks and dark red roof parts pulled out, I just need to order the rest of the nearly 1,900 bricks. Hopefully, I can get it done by November, with real world pictures uploaded by Dec 1st, or maybe sooner, if I'm lucky.- 109 replies

Classic Space SHIP - real life (finished) MOC - Project Upsilon

MOC: Flying Scotsman (with free instructions)
Murdoch17 replied to damangos's topic in LEGO Train Tech
First off, thanks to @damangos for the awesome instructions! Second, I reworked my original 7 wide Emerald Night tender from 2014 to have three wheels and the classic LEGO train logo instead of the 6 wide tender used by damangos in the original model. (I like them both being the same width.) The engine is modeled in BR dark blue, and is numbered one higher than the A3 engine series ever went (2509). Both the train and engine are named the Scarborough Flyer... and yes, it's build-able. The rear of the loco, with the LRTS logo on the side of the tender. (I can't find the 1 x 1 letters anymore in quantity, plus they are getting really expensive, so I made this logo instead.) -
