Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X 1:8
sm1995 replied to Porsche96's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, that is huge! Very nicely done. However, I do think that proportions are a bit off. The glasshouse imo is too tall and wide, maybe you could try making the roof one stud shorter from both sides( left and right)? Other than that, good job- 18 replies

That is nice to hear. I was expecting outriggers a la 42009, aka just a gimmick. And yeah I forgot the whole deal with suspension, that does make sense!
-
Am I the only one who thinks that outriggers on this set are almost completely useless? They don't really work and they take up a lot of space. When I get this set I want to make the tipping bed pneumatically actuated, remove the outriggers and place all the pneumatic switches there instead. Ideally I'd remove the gearbox and add another motor with a switch to operate the turntable. That should make the whole set a little easier to play with...

Wow, thanks a lot Apologies for the OT posts, now lets get back on track. What do you mean by "emptiness on the rear wheelarches" though? Is it the fact that the c-pillars are rather low compared to the "bulging" and tall wheel arches? Looking at the P1, it seems like the roofline abruptly ends thanks to the tall rear arches.. is this what you mean? Also, please note that I'm not trying to be condescending or offensive with these questions, I'm just trying to understand your point of view -

Wait what? Like a lego MOC car designer or an actual car designer? Either way, I disagree with you. The lines on this car remind me very much of those on a Ferrari 330 P4. And it's considered to be one of the prettiest Ferraris of all time. -
Technic Hall of Fame Discussion
sm1995 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry, I don't really agree with your reasoning. Sure it may not draw an actual "fractal" ( something I know nothing about), but... a. Does it do something that no other lego creation out there does? Yes it does. b. Is it a crazy complex and fascinating piece of engineering? Yes it is. I think based on those two criteria alone, it qualifies for the HOF. It is my humble opinion that you need to open your eyes and see the bigger picture here; a simple technicality doesn't (IMO, again) discredit all the 'outside of the box" thinking and hard work required to come up with a creation like this. -
Great review! Hope to see more of these in the future :) Me personally, I hate this set. The functions are pretty useless because the set isn't motorized. Like I really don't understand how a manual winch is a useful/fun thing to play with. But worst of all, it looks incredibly hideous. It's almost as if they tried to make it as ugly as possible.. what in gods name is going on at the front? and why mount the LA downward and have those two LBG L beams sticking out at the back? Even though it's great set for parts, I would most definitely buy 42038 Arctic truck ( which is a terrible parts pack) over this abomination.
-
What?! Are you aware that we owe China trillions of dollars and probably a good idea to maintain a healthy a political relationship with them?
-
The 42043 has more useful pieces, redesigned versions of clutch gears/driving rings, is more complex, is more detailed and has that beautiful MB logo. I own the 42009 but if I were to choose between the two I would definitely get the 42043. The strengths of the 42009 include the beautifully complicated gearbox and the very innovative outriggers. The crane itself isn't that impressive imho but if you like mobile-cranes, it's a pretty good set.
-
Eh, I agree with you to a certain extent. IDK about you guys but after a while it becomes pretty easy to guess the axle size just by looking at them. So while color coding makes it easier to sort things out and find pieces, I don't really think its necessary. On my last MOC ( which was a truck) I had to use an illegal technique for the grill because the #9 axle isn't available in black So, it goes both ways really.

oh okay... wonder why TLG decided to go with flexible connectors though.. Thx for the ldd file, complete newb here to LDD and decided to mess around with the rear tailight section and modify it a bit....this is what I was able to come up with, hope you don't mind.. Here's the ldd file https://www.dropbox....xle SM.lxf?dl=0

I agree that the frame is too thick, but the overall build is very clean and pretty. No offense to Jurss, but I prefer this version over his.

Pneumatics General Discussion
sm1995 replied to 9v system's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'll start off, is there anyway to make the retraction of a pneumatically actuated arm/ crane more controllable? In my experience, the weight of the crane arm( or whatever) always makes it drop down too fast when the valve is opened. You could make it controllable by adding another cylinder on the opposite side of the hinge, but is there any other way to overcome this problem? -

Very cute You nailed the looks on this one. However, I'm more interested in the mustang in your avatar When will we get to see that? -
Amazing review, Rishab! I really like how it read like a piece of literature rather than a wall of text with a bunch of facts thrown in there. As for the car, it is my favorite Lego supercar ( no disrespect to anyone else) and in my opinion the best looking as well ( I like gapless bodywork). Shame about the weak connections, but it really does make up for it with it's phenomenal looks.
