[MOC] Excavator. Single motor, fully functional.

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

Do you like oldschool Lego Technic with a single motor and many functions?

I hope you would like my excavator.

It has only a single PF L motor and is fully functional. It can drive and dig.

Enjoy the show 😀

I know at least one youtuber that will be the happiest man in the world when he stumbles on your creation

More seriously, this seems a great piece of both engineering and design, congratulations!

In an increasingly Bluetooth hub and many motors world this is most refreshing and also brilliant. Followed on t’flikr.

That looks amazigly playable! Very well engineered and great design as well! I like how it can rotate its understructure while keeping the upper part fixed. How did you synchronize the two movements so precisely?

If I tell you I have calculated it, you won't believe it, will you?  And you couldn't be more right. 😉 To be honest, I got it by trial and error. The initial design was very close, so I decided to try different tracks gearing. The result is perfect. I like it.

This is so nice.  It reminds move of the universal sets (8082) years ago when they used only one or two motors to do it all. Great playability.

If I count right - there's 16 universal joints? Holy cow! Regardless, it all works, and very well at that. Great build!

Wow!!!

Technic at its absolute very best. One motor, about a thousand functions - and you have to manually pull and push levers in the right order and have to remember which one causes what motion. How cool is this!!!

All the best,
Thorsten

Yes, you're right, there are 16 UJs.

Any chance for instructions?

If you keep motivating me like this, I will think about it. 😁

I think they'd be extremely popular!

When it comes to the instructions, I wonder if I can even claim the copyright for my design. I don't want to be blamed of plagiarism. My design is based on 42042 and 8043. It's a kind of mix of these two models. The udercarriege and superstructer is based on 42042 and the excavator arm is taken from 8043.
BTW, I wonder if the authors of these models are on the Eurobricks forum and what would they say about my design?

This is a great build, congratulations! Very nice use of sliding levers for the gear box. The gearing actually looks remarkably neat and straightforward considering what it is doing!

Regarding originality, in my view there is nothing remotely wrong with incorporating ideas from elsewhere.
