Grogu is failing hard everywhere though- no idea why it was expected that removing him from the pram and upping the price would suddenly turn a heavily discounted set (and one they knew was underperforming for at least a year) into a winner.

Who’d have thought that making another of the exact same thing people have had the last 6 years to buy wouldn’t improve sales?

I think that the Starfighter wave next year will ultimately be a lot better and more appealing to buy more sets from for a couple of reasons

  1. There’s a larger star studded cast of characters aside from Literally Me. Therefore we’ll get less of the tedious repetition of the same two chaps from this year, and more variation like the ST/ RO sets.
  2. The ships and vehicles are likely going to be more original than not. (So less remakes)

In their defense, it seemingly works for 501st battle packs.

It's too early to tell for sure- TMAG certainly had some very unique set material that lego just... didn't cover, but Starfighter definitely has potential to give us something like the start of Resistance where you had a selection of colorful racing starfighters (And lego proceeded to not even make the main hero ship).

Also I can't remember if I mentioned it but your meme yesterday was one of the best posts you've done for the TIE Avenger campaign.

Woohoo!

Lack of commander isn't great, but he's relatively easy to purist.

A little unfortunate that it sounds like they're just doing two variants of snowtrooper rather than one with a removable heat mask, but having both types is of course better than only including one. Especially because it's been ~4 years since snowtroopers have shown up. Granted they're not exactly hard to get ahold of secondhand, but it's nice that they're on shelves in some capacity, especially since it's not like they're likely to pop up anytime soon in non-"smart" sets. (Remnant AT-AT this year, snowspeeder likely making in appearance in a "smart" echo base", and it's not like we need or will get a new BP or hoth AT-ST anytime soon.)

Find it strange the AT-AT has only got one pilot. Makes you wonder if they’ve shrunk it down to the point where it only fits one in. I know it’s the Mando and Grogu film but this set didn’t need another version of both characters would have rather they had gone towards the commander or more snowtroopers.

can’t wait for the pics.

still think this years release schedule is just bizarre. We got couple of sets coming June, the shuttle July and at least a couple in August. Then you have the normal AC in September and the other UCS in October.

Part of me misses the old school January/June releases

They killed Januaries all the way back at the start of the modern era in 2021, and it seems Augusts are dead as well now (I believe only 3 sets, unless lego wants to actually give us a good surprise for once.)

Forgot to mention, maxbautde said the version we‘ve seen in the YT short was the same as the actual set

I think we all assumed that- it'd be weird for them to render a full, built model for an upcoming set and then just make something else for the actual product.

Sure, but the build could have deviated in some sections, so it‘s nice to have it confirmed they‘re identical

Gonna get my word in before the AT AT gets revealed and my hopes get invalidated.

I’m not sure Lego would waste unnecessary money on a new normal Snowtrooper helmet mould. And the remnant ones eyes in the video seem much bigger than the current one. So my hope is that the AT AT Commander has been confused for a normal Snowtrooper due to white armour.

Probably a stretch though.

Either way, despite a couple of hiccups in the minfig selection (Mango Yogurt again instead of a Commander and/or 2nd Pilot) I am honestly really hyped for this set now. It sounds like one of the most fun play-sets we’ve had in a while. Nowhere near 2022 AT TE hype but definitely 2023 CG Gunship and Cal Kestis ISD levels. And I just love deployment functions, I live for that Bantha poodoo! This is why I love shuttles and the 2022 AT TE so much.

And the fact an INT-4 can fit in the interior mid-section suggests that it’ll have a decent size. Plus potentially space for a speeder, cargo and weapon rack. And the price doesn’t seem too bad as long as they don’t pull what they just did for the shuttle in € to £ conversion.

It might be the Warlord doubles as a pilot. Or hear me out on my above theory, what if the commander doubles as a pilot?

Agreed. This is why the X-Wing is my favourite set in the initial movie wave. Ironically it has the most new characters than any other set in the wave.

And it’s time for our daily allotted TIE Avenger time. For the 398th time. Any suggestions for day 400? I’m all ears.

I have never seen an INT-4 before this discussion and I must say the thing looks outrageously dumb to me. Maybe it'll be better as a Lego. But weird thing for Favreau/Filoni to dig up, imo.

The commitment to having M&G as figs in basically every set is surprising. Was it always like this for movie releases? There's about a thousand ways to acquire those two at this point.

It is definitely abnormal but part of it is probably due to them really being the only main characters. It's not like with making sets for the sequels where you had Rey, Finn, and Poe, plus main antagonists who regularly show up to focus the sets around. But to some extent it is also just Lego being weird and wanting to include them in every set for some reason cause there were still sequel sets that didn't have any main characters/villains in them.

Finally got around to seeing TMaG yesterday - I think it was a solid movie and echo most of the sentiments that people have shared in here about the sets being a little bit too "safe."

I think the AT-RT set could've been downsized (there's no reason that set should cost as much as it does, anyway), and then in the $40-60 price point, throw in Mando's house, possibly with 1-2 characters that we didn't get yet.  The Anzellan's ship is cute, but realistically should be smaller (though I understand it's a bit hard to convey the scale in LEGO since minifigure scale =/= real life scale in most cases).

I would also agree that one of the Hutt guard ships could be cool, and a set based on Shakari would've been neat as well.

Anyway, 8/10 movie (a little long at times but fun overall).

As is most of maul. Once again, an animated series in which Maul is brought back manages to vastly outdo the live-action media set in the same era that in which Kenobi features prominently. Something something poetry something something rhyming.

I hope they do. If they wanted to, it would also be a good element to add to the conflict between being mandalorian and being a jedi- Jedi aren't supposed to have attachment, Mandalorians are all about clan and family. If Sabine stays in the Peridea galaxy, she'll stay a Jedi. If she returns to Ezra, Hera, and Zeb, choosing family over the force, she'll lose her powers. It'd call back to both the decision to allow Elsbeth to find Thrawn so she can save ezra- choosing family over balance- and staying behind on Peridea- choosing saving her master over being with her family.

Eh... I don't know. There are some elements that are very good, and there's a big middle section that heavily includes Mandalorian culture so I have to push that- but some of the characters' endings feel almost disrespectful and the story remains very much unresolved. I wasn't particularly attached to certain characters before reading the book, but if I had been I would probably have been incensed at the ending rather than just perturbed. (Obviously I can't tell you WHICH characters without spoiling things, but suffice it to say if you're especially attached to anyone from the KOTORS, it might be wise to just read other legends novels.)

Yup, the only way to get particularly accurate figures will be Lego actually putting out some products for it.

Oh yeah, I was extremely worried going in that it would be a show about Devon in which Maul is just sort of in a Rebels Ezra role and she'd end the season fighting him alongside Daki, so seeing that poster leak was extremely helpful since I could go in knowing they were going to end up with Maul and Devon aligned.

We do get Wedge every once in awhile, probably since he was in the movies, but it's been 6 years so I wouldn't mind seeing him show up again. Maybe a definitive ANH X-wing could have Luke, Wedge, and Biggs alongside R2 and another astromech.

You could say that halving Maul only doubled his potential… or you could choose not to and save some groans at the dinner table.

I can see that. Maybe there is potential after all… I still hold that Dave won't desert Sabine and Ahsoka to another galaxy, but maybe that's precisely what he's doing. I do wish there had been more outward conflict between Ahsoka and Sabine over the latter's conflicting Mandalorian and Jedi values, because Ahsoka quickly dismissing it fell flat for me.

Thank you, then. The only OR characters I'm attached to is Darth Malgus (because coolest Sith design ever, am I right?) and my random fanfiction characters from that era, lol; so anything is fair game.

Indeed, and so my quest as the Thunder Lord will continue… whenever I can think up a remixed line. (I don't know how Clone Commando does it every day.)

Same. Seeing how Maul was handled in his show, it makes The Bad Batch (aka Omeeega's show) look even worse.

BIGGS!
While I'd love a definitive ANH X-Wing like you've described (especially after rewatching ANH on Monday), given we have a "smart" X-Wing that supplies the characters and a NR X-Wing that supplies the peak of X-Wing design, I'm willing to hold off for the time being. A definitive Y-Wing is more of a must for me—Y-Wings in particular feel directly tied to Episode IV, whereas the X-Wing have become the mascot for Star Wars overall. Of course, we do go back to the question of whether LSW '27 should celebrate 50 years of ANH or of the Star Wars franchise.

On the topic of collecting Red Squadron… what about a Yavin IV D2C with the every Red, Gold, Phoenix and Blue Squadron seen onscreen at that location—as well as the Rogue One crew.

I’m a Aslume veteran who knows the lore… yet reading this still somehow made me think I was having a stroke. Excellent Jonkling my good sir.

Squadrons and Aftermath fans are in shambles as the Bomber was their only set.

Much like the inclusion of Bae Sloane, generic OT vehicles should use the chance to include more obscure/ comic/ book/ game characters.

A Y-Wing with Norra Wexley, TIE Fighter with Captain Kerill or Pellaeon, X-Wing with Wedge, etc…

The Trans-Neon-Green Lanterns face off against the bleak Blacktron… Brickest Night 3: Return of the King?

Thank you, good sir. Long live the Aslume!

That set managed to have so much appeal for being a mere OT remake. (Yes, a remake 20 years in the making, but a grey ship nonetheless.)

Agreed. Dodanna's inclusion in the '21 X-Wing is one of the main reasons why I enjoy it so much—build aside. Iconic main characters need be included, but adding background or minor characters helps round out the world—especially as the price point/amount of iterations climbs higher.

How about a Star Destroyer with Pellaeon? A TIE Defender with Pellaeon? A hologram room with minifigs of those Imperial warlords including Pellaeon? An Admiral Thrawn bust with Pellaeon to accompany Thrawn? A $350 replica of Pellaeon's mustache? And how did I forget to mention Mara Jade?!

Additionally and off the topic of LEGO, after my recent rewatch of ANH and the Battle of Yavin, I'm once again asking for a Rogue Squadron movie starring a recasted Wedge. X-Wing action never gets old.

That sounds intriguing. How will they accomplish the model at a presumably miniature scale? Guess we'll see soon enough.

I'm probably most looking forward to full pictures of the Sandcrawler. Wrong colour aside, it does look well done from the outside, so I'm curious how the interior was handled. Plus, there's the Mudhorn and Blurg from which to expect horror.

The Remnant mold is definitely a new one incompatible with any sort of heat mask extension, but I'm just saying if they were gonna give us a new mold for that anyway, why not make just one more so we can have the removable heat masks. Unfortunately like you say I think confusing the commander's a stretch given his face would be showing and he'd have a lot more black/grey on the body than a snowtrooper.

Yes, it's very nice to see them throwing in that sort of feature, even if we have Mowgli and Glock instead of more imperials. Really a lot of these sets would benefit from replacing Mango and Grok with other figures- Cara/Boba/Elia in the shuttle, another anzellan or kaibu in the starship, etc. Lego doesn't usually repeat characters so often in SW, so I don't think it's a budget thing, I just think Malding and Glob are included because lego likes the "conflict in a box" and those two are extremely popular... ignoring that anyone who wants can pick them up from major retailers for $7 anyway.

Forget saving the groans on the twice-the-pride-double-the-fall, I've been so broken by nerd culture that just seeing the word "potential" makes the Fantastic 4 "say that again" meme flash into my mind.

Yeah, at times it felt like they took who Sabine was and shunted it to the side to give Ahsoka an apprentice. But I also can buy that after losing Ezra she cut herself off from her people and religion- which also helps with the fact that she didn't ever show up in Mando. (Though that's more on Mando, it's ridiculous that Bo doesn't seem like she gathered anyone beyond her own clan in the attempt to retake mandalore)

Yeah in that case you're fine, it's way before Malgus is born so you're good.

The TIE Avenger personally descends from the heavens to deliver a new line of inspiration to him.

I get that at this point we SHOULD hold off for the time being... but I want both. One of the reasons I've been advocating for a big flagship-price-point Trench Run set with the X-wing, a TIE, the Advanced, and an exhaust port/turbolaser turret. The Y-wing I think realistically just has to happen if lego even remotely knows ball, it's been so long since the last one, and was one of the first 5 sets. (If we don't get a trench run set, packing it with the advanced as an anniversary throwback would be nice.)

Yavin IV MBS set would be awesome, it's a shame how infrequently we get that style of set. It could definitely include a lot of pilots we don't typically get, though I don't think we'd see more than 6 of them in a single set given how similar they are. The designers could maybe be sneaky and throw in a rack of pilot helmets somewhere to get us the clean-shaven OT pilots, and then make more facially distinct ones like Biggs, Porkin, etc the included figs so we could purist the rest with generic pilot faces.

I'm very much looking forward to the sandcrawler and it may be the only non-gimmick SW set this year (or since march 2024, actually) that I buy. Though I intend on sticking a ton of random brown plates and tiles to the exterior to cover ~60% of the surface.

Posted (edited)

They leaked.

The AT AT is beautiful besides Mango Yogurt taking up the spaces that two able bodied imperials could have. The hull is the same height as 2020. And surprisingly decently priced?! The speeder-bike looks like a refined version of the 2020-22 model so that’s nice. INT-4 is a bit blocky but I’m glad they included it as a feature. The exterior looks very polished and the interior looks somewhat sizeable.

Long live the empire! And hopefully we get an imp BP in January to provide troop complements.

The sandcrawler also looks great!

So which way SW fans? Grey tank on legs or grey tank on treads?

From the blurry pics we have so far it looks like the video helmets may have been inaccurate as the slits look a similar size to the normal Snowtrooper (RIP my delusional hopes of a Commander)

This is yet again another problem with a SW movie focusing on only 2 characters, granted this is rather a merch problem here as Rotta has a Han sized role I think. (I’m waiting for a D+ release to watch it but I don’t mind spoilers) It’s called Star Wars not 2 Dudes beat up some bad guys. The repetition of the same bland Mango Yogurt is just boring. I don’t know if I’m making sense here?

Starfighter sets will be more exciting as it’ll give us Ryan Gosling, Aaron Pierre (John Stewart minifig?!!), Amy Adams, Simon Bird and Matt Smith minifigs as they have already been teased 2 years in advance. Allowing for more different character combos in each set, or at least making it more likely.

This makes me very tempted to do that one season 5 homelander meme in the near future. But it’s probably a bit too far.

AT-AT and Sandcrawler have been revealed.

132126_Track%201.jpg

Looks like 1x2x1 panels in trans yellow are back... that's the first time they've been available since a single 1987 Blacktron set. (They look to be used on the front-facing windscreen of the Sandcrawler.)

Posted

They both look good. Honestly the AT-AT is a bit tempting as I've been wanting one for a while, but I think my lack of free space plus not enjoying the movie is kinda pushing me towards not getting it haha. Sandcrawler isn't my thing as much but it's nice that we're getting mudolorian and Kuiil (in a cheaper set).

Posted

Sandcrawler and AT-AT look good. Remnant snowtroopers look so much better than the renders. I like that they have kneeguards now.

RE the whole Mando in every set I think him only having the one outfit heightens that. Han was in a lot of Solo sets but he's constantly changing clothes so less repetitive.

Posted

Love both sets! Nice to see the new rock piece being used for the Mudhorn egg. The new Kuiil looks good, but I think I prefer the previous one :snicker: I’m well aware I‘m probably the only person on the planet to do so :laugh_hard:

Hmm, AT-AT is not speaking to me, not sure why. Maybe the legs look too long to me? I'm not sure. I've never owned a lego AT-AT (unless you count the Dark Side Developer Kit), so maybe this is how they always look. And as I said above, I just don't like the INT-4.

Think the Sandcrawler looks great, though. Probably won't get either, but happy to see nice play sets like this being put out.

Dark Side Developer Kit must have been a hand-me-down to me from a cousin if it came out in 2000, since I was quite young. Quite an expensive gift back then - about $200 inflated value. Never got into the "engineering" Lego stuff as a kid and not sure I ever actually built it. Still lying around the parents' house!

I've enjoyed the look of all the sets that have been revealed for these past few Mando waves and these are no exception. Out of these two, I think the walker in particular is a great set.

Price and space mean I probably won't pick anything up, and will instead sadly peruse the figures on the aftermarket (still not seen Zeb go below £45 which is ridiculous).

I have to say though, the more time passes, the more these brick built animals appeal to me.

I wish the mudhorn was it's own little £10 set. I'd snatch that up in an instant.

Posted

Both look good - the only real things that I'm seeing that I'm iffy on are the usage of a sticker for the AT-AT windscreen, and I'm not sold on the Mudhorn build.  Brick built SW creatures, to me, either look great or leave a lot to be desired, and this one isn't the best in my opinion.
