Just finished the build. Not good, not bad. Sort of like my high school transcript, a solid 'C' grade. The roof is stable, unlike some previous Lego VW models. The interior looks nice. Doors and trunk well designed and work smoothly. Even if it's a mini, the lego version is still on the small and easy side.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
A casino is the best idea that I've heard of! Maybe we could have some American Indian minifigs? Before the political correctness gets out of hand, the US government classifies me as a Native American. And, some of us have a sense of humor. Just to clarify by way of edit, in the USA many casinos are on Native American land. -

If you re-read my comment, you'll see that I don't have a problem with WTC references, real or imagined.

I want to see things where people have put their hands on Lego and actually built something. Not meaning to diminish the skill it takes to create something like this, because it certainly does take talent and skill, but I want to be able to put the brick in my hand and put it in place. Let's see the real deal. As far as 9-11 goes, I didn't really didn't think that much about it when I saw this thread. Having spent a lot of time working in the old WTC (in the 80s) well, it's part of history. If someone wants to recreate the WTC with Lego, fine. I don't see anything political in it. The WTC was an iconic structure with significance going far beyond 9-11. I still think of it as that wonderful building off on the horizon that I could see coming over the hill on I80 in NJ or glowing in the night as I drove down the NJ turnpike. What a great place it was. Like AJ Soprano said in the last episode of the Sopranos.......'focus on the good times'.......

How about 'should lego do everything that I want them to do at a price I can afford even if they lose money?

L@go Far too logical of a comment to be on an Internet website. :-) I agree.

Lego 10185 Green Grocer--New Build & Review
Off the wall replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
This is still my favorite. About a year or so ago I bought two new in box. Assembled one of them. It's a great lego product. Enjoy! -
Well, good luck with it. While being a completist, I guess maybe I'm just not that into it.

I have no problem with exclusives. One caveat. For example, if there is an established series, like modulars, where you have a clear series of modulars numbered in the usual ascending order like 10197, 10211 etc and they drop 10210 (number used for discussion purposes only) as a modular into the mix and make it only available in a certain geographic area, that's wrong. However, if they make a modular type building outside of the usual series, number it differently, don't call it a modular and it's exclusive, fine with me. Just don't number it and package it like its part of the widely available series. As a completist, that drives me nuts. Of course, exclusive minifigs given their cost and large numbers probably are a totally different subject. Minifigs are not as expensive (not talking about the after market cost) or complex as a Star Wars or modular building set. And, if lego wants some PR at a specific event, what better way to do it than with some minifigs. Of course, once in production I guess it wouldn't be any big deal to make 25,000 rather than a few thousand and make them available to the general lego collecting population. If they do that once, and find themselves with thousands and thousands of homeless minifigs, then I guess it would be okay to abandon the experiment. Shell? Seriously? It opens a whole can of worms when you want to start singling out individual companies. I'm sure we all could nominate a company, person or country that we think shouldn't be linked to lego.

Yep, and if I didn't agree with you, I wouldn't have had to explain to my wife the ebay purchases for for two of these. -

What's interesting on the second floor is how the blue/white awning pieces don't line up. The three on the left are slightly off from the two on the right. One of those quirky design features that you wouldn't see in a more recent modular designed by TLG employees. Not saying it's good or bad, just saying it is what it is. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think there will be a double points promotion this fall. I also think that TH isn't in imminent danger of being retired. Just a gut feeling on my part, but that's as good as most Internet speculation, I suppose. On another note, I just expanded my TH so that it's 18 wider on each side. The interior has some nice space for something like a court room or law library. But, I'll leave that to whoever inherits all of this lego that I'm accumulating. As far as GE goes, I always put it in the cart and go as far as I can before actually pushing 'order' just to make sure it's available. Since I've bought 11 of them, I don't need another. Of course, most of them went into my Super Grand Emporium of 16,000 pieces or so. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Well, up again at 4am EDT this morning. GE was back as available at lego.com but is now gone, again. Like whack a mole. -
I think every thing is great......except the Plymouth Fury. Way off, but I'm prejudiced. My father helped build them and we had one as a family car. At a minimum, the headlights need to be dual and some how it has to be more like a Fury and less like a Checker. I suppose the lines of many 50s cars are hard to capture with Lego.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Being too lazy to get in the car and drive less than two miles to the lego store, I ordered the Mini Cooper from Lego.com this morning at about 430am eastern daylight time. The GE was available again. Then, an hour later, it was sold out. Another small window. If you still want a GE, I would keep checking lego.com. Go figure, eh? -
Nice work on the building. Texture, detail.....great work.

Keep up the great work! I also started with lego after the first three modulars were retired. Like you, I've managed to acquire the first three that I missed. As far as 10190 goes, research the history of this set. Designed by an AFOL who passed away not long after it's release. This could be my favorite modular. So quirky, many interesting uses of lego components and designed by an AFOL. This set gets a lot of criticism. Some even want to deny its status as part of the modular series. To me, it may be the best. I went ahead and got two as there are two different ways to display the top floor. I put the two side by side so both display options can be seen. Enjoy the build! -

Isn't it getting to be about the time of year when we have the first word on what the next modular will be?
