  1. Great review for an equally great product.
  2. I wouldn't waste valuable carry on space with lego. Having moved and traveled a whole bunch more than I've wanted to, I'd simply pack the lego in boxes and move it with the rest of my stuff. Not like your moving crystal or pottery that's easily broken.
  3. I buy multiples of modular buildings in order to build larger versions. It may not be as cost effective as brick linking the exact parts that I need but, being relatively new to lego, it has allowed me to build up a large inventory of 'extra' bricks in a short amount of time.
  4. I don't collect city. I will never collect city. So, what's available in city is irrelevant to me. MOCs? Can't think of one. But, that's why we look to the TLG design team for new, innovate products and designs.
  5. Well, playing devils advocate, we need a police station that relates more to the AFOL modular theme and meets those standards. I haven't seen an existing lego police station that I would add to my modular city.
  6. Since I have all of the modulars, and since I can't get another grand emporium until the end of the month, I'm working on completing the winter village series. I've completed the first, second and fifth in the series. I'm currently working on the fourth. Still shopping for a good deal on the third one.
  7. That actually sounds pretty good. If you look at a lot of buildings, they are occupied by many different businesses. So, having a private detective, a barber shop and whatever in the same building would make a lot of sense. As would a combination business/residential building.
  8. One of the best MOCs that I've seen. The detail is incredible.
  9. I'm taking everything with me. Including my dog. It hasn't been proven conclusively that I can't do it. But, it may be a moot point as I plan on living forever. So far, so good. Seriously, I couldn't care less and don't think about it.
  10. I like TH , and thanks for the review. The only problem I have with it involves proportion. I think it just begs to be expanded. Legosjaak and I have both expanded it. Mine has the same height, but each side is three windows wider. Since we apparently only get one modular a year, I spend a lot of my lego time trying to expand existing modulars. The GE and TH are good candidates for expansion. Some of the others, not so much.
  11. Yep, Herky, this detective agency rumor has really gained momentum. I even see where neoape.com refers to it. Well, for the sake of all of those wishing for a detective agency, I hope it works out for them. As for me, as long as there's a high piece count and a building of substance, I couldn't care less about the theme.
  12. Search 'lego modular building' on US ebay and sort by highest price first. You'll see a great hospital and a very nice shopping center building. The hospital is simply outstanding. It's hard not to pull the trigger and buy it now.
  13. That's a nice corner building. But, work would have to be done on both sides to add more detail and windows. Also, one of the main areas of opportunity with a corner building would be the open, corner area in front on the building. A fountain? A park type setting? A bus stop? A small news stand? I'm open to a corner building, with some 'tweaks'.
  14. Nice. Very nice.
  15. Other than the fact that they represent buildings, there's not enough of a clear relationship to the modular line of products to get even a completist like me to buy them. Pass.
  16. Two reasons for my owning roughly a dozen grand emporiums. First, I wanted a department store that looked as if it took up an entire city block. You know, the old fashioned kind. I could only see doing that by making the GE the basis of my building and expanding it to 96 x 64 and adding a story or two. Second, I'm lazy. Just easy for me to keep ordering GEs rather that using pick a brick or other sources. While I do have more than my share of unopened bags marked '1' from the GE, I also accumulated a lot of bricks and windows for MOC projects. I have no investment interests with the GE.
  17. Well, I can't understand why you can't log on to your account. And, you seem to be overly concerned for no real reason about ending the auction early. Hope it works out for you. Think I'll just move on......................
  18. Just end it until you can figure out what you have. Don't be concerned about what people think. End it as item no longer available.....I that's what I used to use, may not be the exact wording. But,why can't you get into your account?
  19. Astrid's design would be fine with me.
  20. I have eleven grand emporiums. Nine in the four story 96 x 64 version of the GE, one in the 'normal' version and one still in the box. I have five town halls, three used to make a larger one and one normal and one new in the box. A few pet shops, a couple market streets, one corner cafe, four Parisian restaurants (two to make a larger version), two palace cinemas, two fire brigades, two green grocers. And, one mini modulars.
  21. Okay, as an American who's fairly ignorant about football.....I have a question. The announcers today kept saying 'there was nothing Howard could have done about that one.......' Well, a lot of goals against him today. Your opinions? Did Howard have a bad game? His defenders? The whole team? Thanks.
  22. I'm watching my third match of the day. Rough start for Everton, to say the least. My Saturday consists of a vente coffee mocha and a scone at 7am at Starbucks, home by 730am and then three matches. Done by about 230, hit the outdoor spa with a beer and then out for dinner. Ah, football season. What a wonderful time!
