Yep, if you want to headline one of the most expensive lego sets on the reseller market and assume the that ring has being going on for years. As a former prosecuting attorney, it sounds more like an inflated police value estimate. Like when the cops bust someone for drugs and their stated street value is several times more than what the actual haul of drugs would bring on the street. Inflation makes the bust look better and sometimes impacts charging/plea bargaining, etc. What's getting frustrating in a jury situation is the headlining of the possible, but improbable, fact. Sure, maybe they only stole and sold 10179s, Taj Mahals and Statue of Libertys. Not impossible.............but seriously? Only the OJ or Zimmerman juries would buy that. Edit.... Look at the CBS 5 local coverage. Not a lot of $300 sets. Not to mention averaging $300, but I guess I did mention it. Unless they got the the lego back to the future set to actually go back in time, there's no way they averaged $300 a set. Maybe they had $250k in inventory, I can't tell. Or, unless they got to $300 by figuring he got a refund on a set from the store and then sold the set. But that's beyond my comprehension of how that would work.

Some other thoughts on 10190 being part of the modular series. 10190 was featured between CC and GG when Lego was advertising the modular line. Just line you see TH, PC and PR together in current ads that you see at the end of Lego instruction books. If nothing else, 10190 was included by TLG in the mini modular release (like you said) and that's pretty definitive proof that it's in the modular series. I tried to rationalize it not being part of the modular line because I missed it and didn't want to pay a high price for one in the aftermarket. I finally stopped lying to myself and bought two used 10190s.

Netting $300 a set sounds a tad high. Again, I'd hate to explain to cell mate bubba that I'm doing time for stealing/fencing lego.

I'm just not feeling it.

I would love to see an alternative build. I just can't wrap my head around what one would look like. The Simpsons house seems to be the antithesis of every modular building.

I really like it. I'm not down with most of the 16 wide MOCs as most look like shoeboxes set on end. However, yours avoids the shoebox appearance. I like the choice of colors and the details. Using the same standard that the majority used in evaluating the PR, height is not an issue. So, you should benefit from the same rationalization as the pros do. I would add some detail on the front between the second and third floors. Much better design than many that are for sale on ebay. Thanks for sharing.

Lego 10211 Grand Emporium - New Build & Review
Off the wall replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
Actually, it took more than six. :-) The added fourth story took up a lot of parts. Not to mention the increased width. -
Lego 10211 Grand Emporium - New Build & Review
Off the wall replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
Not giving a flip about the interior, and even if I did I find this interior satisfactory, I think the exterior is outstanding. So much so that I've expanded this building to be four stories and cover six of the 32 x 32 plates. There are at least a few of us who enjoy buying multiple copies of a modular and expanding its footprint. I think it keeps us going during the long drought between modular releases. Now that the GE is available again, I'm mulling over a fifth floor. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't know where they were, are or going to be as far as priority is concerned. But, on a scale of 1 to 100, I'm pretty sure modulars aren't one or one hundred. Somewhere in the vast middle is what I presume.........with no supporting evidence. 'A ways down'? Meh, who knows for sure, eh? Besides, I can't quantify 'a ways down'. I guess I probably maybe perhaps meant they weren't as critical to Lego as some series. Sorry for the confusion. I can be that way at times. -
Just a brief correction. It was not a 'civil war'. My ancestors had no interest in taking control of Washington DC and governing America as one country. They (we) wanted our own country. May seem like a small point to some, but the correct term is 'war between the states'. Some prefer 'The war of northern aggression'.

I didn't say they were less important than in the past. So, our statements aren't in conflict. End of story. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Off the wall replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I have no basis for making a reasonable comment on TLGs modular building profit margin. I have no clue. But, I'd miss modulars if they weren't around. Something does tell me that they're a ways down the priority list at Lego. -
Maybe an idea will take on a life of its own. Like modular buildings and the detective agency rumor. The rumor itself has now been used to support the rumor. I think lego has done a great job with most of the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Especially Robie House and the imperial hotel.

Danpb......really nice work. Thanks for sharing.

I've simplified things a bit. I just look at the finished product and it's either great, meh, or sucks. Death Star, large Eiffel Tower, green grocer......great. Taj Mahal, palace cinema.....meh Trevi fountain, parisian restaurant, sandcrawer.......suck. This is my new scientific, highly researched and indisputable ratings system.

Thanks. Appreciate the insight. Guess I was spoiled by getting the update in July last year. As far as the popular rumor goes, well, never mind.......

Agree. I also voted below average. If it's 'average', then what's 'below average'? In comparing it to the rest of the series, I had to go with below average.

Most of those alternate builds are those wonderful (sarcastic) 16 wide flat front whatevers. What a waste of a FB. On a positive note, Mugen's (link in previous post) looks outstanding ('outstanding'......one of many words that can be used instead of 'awesome').

It just hurts too much to break the seal on a retired set. Especially when I'm unsure of what I'm going to build once the seal is broken.

Thanks for the review, rollermonkey. I've heard the same from another AFOL. My wife bought this for me on Sunday during one of her frequent mall visits. It's on the shelf and, based on what I've read about it, I'm in no hurry to get started. Between this and no news on the next modular, I'm starting to think my favorite lego products (architecture and modular buildings) are on the back burner at TLG.

Art Deco items...including...... Catalin desk sets from the 30s, old plastic clocks, especially tube radios. Lego is a very friendly hobby from a cost standpoint. You can have a very nice collection and not break the bank. It's also very flexible in that if you run out of space, you can simply disassemble something and store it in a box.

The charger is very nice. I had a 383 Plymouth Roadrunner and my best friend had a 440 6 pack 'Cuda. Ah, those were the days.

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
Off the wall replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
They should make a war theme. Okay, call it a military theme if you like. There are 'people' getting blown away in so many fantasy themes made by so many toy manufacturers, lego included. I wouldn't buy a military theme as I don't like war, real or pretend. But, my preferences shouldn't impact what others want. Besides, not like lego is going to make a minifig with a suicide vest. I'm sure a military theme would be done tastefully. Or, at least as tastefully as pretend killing can be. Remember, when all said and done, the end purpose of a military is to break things and kill people. -
The question is, how are they graded? On a scale of 1 to 10, and if you're comparing Lego modulars with whatever else is on the market, then they just might be all tens. If they are competing against each other, then it will be interesting to see which one is at the bottom and which one is at the top and why. To me, it's only meaningful if they are graded based on a modular v modular comparison. So, they can't all be nines and tens. It can't be like American public schools where everyone gets an 'A'. Except for me, that is. :-) And, please give 10190 a break. It seems like many people want to rationalize it right out of the modular series. Glad to see you've included it. After all, Lego considers it part of the modular series as evident in the advertising materials dating back to when the first few modulars were released. Thanks for your efforts and I look forward to the results!
