Thanks for the tips on the Enlighten tracks. Where is a good place to purchase them? I have extra plastic composite wood boards left over from building my deck in the backyard. That stuff is great. I don't have to re-stain or water seal the deck. It's almost 10 years-old.

As I don't have room for a permanent photo booth, I toss a couple of whiteish poster boards on the sofa and use an inexpensive Vivitar flash off camera for light. The flash is bounced off the basement ceiling. I triggered the flash wirelessly using inexpensive Chinese radio triggers. I shoot in manual mode. It's quick and dirty, nothing fancy. The classic town 1980s fire engines have blue lights which say somewhere in Europe like Germany. I changed all mine to red lights to match North America.

You can do a custom white balance with the Rebel XT. You can shoot a 18% gray card or white background and set that to custom white balance. It is easier to get it "right" in camera than to do a lot of Photoshop work afterwards. Shooting RAW with your DSLR will allow for easier editing of the white balance after the fact.

Cute. It is a little bit like one of those Transnet inspection cars.

That's interesting. I didn't realize there were many cab-forward steam engines. I am only familiar with the USA Southern Pacific cab-forwards for long tunnel service in the Sierra Nevada. They burned oil instead of coal.

I think it depends where you are. Folks in Mississauga and Brampton, ON seem to have some good clearance deals. There is nothing good at my local Target or Walmart for that matter.

It wasn't too bad working at height. The trick is not to look down too much and think about falling and what would happen to the Lego collection. Congratulations! You have been busy besides Lego. Get your rest and sleep now.

Excellent work. Love how you hid a GBC mechanism inside to run the waterfall. Maybe it should be called the Great Stud Contraption.

This is a great idea.

I like Swiss crocodile locomotives. I think Lego came out with a couple of versions of them that I missed in my Dark Ages. I took some creative license and built a dual crocodile locomotive for twice the jaw crunching traction power. We have Killer Croc from the Batman theme as the driver/engineer. Let's go for a train ride with the family. Crocodile Locomotive by dr_spock_888, on Flickr

Nice. Did you build an interior bar too? -

I volunteer to display at my LUG events and LEGO store windows. That puts a fire under my butt and I make time to MOC as I have to get things done before the event date. For parts, I use mostly what I can get off the LEGO store Pick A Brick wall. It is probably the least expensive way to get many of a part new. I'll re-design my MOC around what I have available unless it is trains, then I have to bricklink or S@H online for the train motors and wheels. If you are a member of a LUG, you can look into LUGBULK as a way to get parts. If you're ok with used, you can check out bulk lots on eBay, garage sales, Kijii, etc. Winning building contests is another way to get parts. You'll find that your part collection grows over time. Then it causes another problem when your wife says you have too much.
