  1. Very nice. I see you have a library WIP in the background. Maybe some random 1x1 plates could work. I kinda like the uniformity of same sized round plates.
  2. If the part or item wasn't packaged by LEGO with the set, then it isn't completely a pure C model of that set. C models are basically alternative (alt) builds of a set. Mixing sets would be analogous to what we call "kit bashing" in the model railroad hobby world. Taking parts from several different model kits and making a new model out of them.
  3. Actually, I think that frame could work as a handle to carry your BWE around. We'll have to see how balanced it is when it finally comes out.
  4. Thank you everyone for your comments. Thanks. Your whaling suggestion did have a "bad" influence on me in the hunting build. I was more influenced by my grade school field trip to the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, Massassachusetts, USA for this build. It was the main business in New Bedford back then. Thanks. That is right. Whaling ships would go out to seas for year or more and they would process the whale at sea. It is more dangerous to process at sea, a wave can send boiling oil splashing on you. You can slip off while cutting up the whale at the side of the ship and into a group of sharks drawn in by the scent of blood. Didn't you know that the Sea Rats breed horses with invisible reins? They can read their driver's mind. They are smart enough not to start if the pirate driver had too much rum. Thanks. Pretty cool, I got my MOC to look like LDD. The piece of cat hair on the foreground would probably disqualify me.
  5. I bid a nice build. I think this would fall into the small license category too.
  6. Cute. Those guys on left seem so disappointed. Until next time...
  7. Nice story telling method. I guess the captain and crew are in for a flogging when he gets back to Eslandola.
  8. Thank you all. It is fun to MOC with Friends. I may be secretly trying to get more girls interested in engineering with Friends. Thank you for digging that up for Doug72. All I can recall is the pieces came from an old Crystal Reaper or was it Crystal Sweeper set. Thanks. That would have been a great April Fools Day joke. It's probably too late to now to stir up that kind of trouble. Jim may not like that. Bin would be 10 high and 10 wide and feed down to a scooping area. Maybe I can make it like the side of an open face mine.
  9. I think this could be useful for small LEGO train applications like a small shunter MOC. Cramming in a PF IR receiver or SBrick can be very difficult. Since it is a bluetooth 2.0 device, it can work with a wider range of phones and tablets that don't have the latest and greatest BLE equiped. Old phones and tablets are cheap meaning you can get one for letting visitors at your LUG event shows operate your MOC or train layout without putting your own phone with your personal info at risk. It doesn't sound like you need to be on the internet to create profiles like SBrick. You probably don't need a data plan on the phone. It may offer more flexibility to the advanced users than SBrick. But it is not too hard to make your own custom solution these days with off the shelf components for people who are already that advanced.
  10. You didn't say what the photo is used for. Assuming it is for publishing and advertizing the event. You may want to clean the lint and dust off your black cloth before taking the picture and be mindful of where the background ended in the upper right hand corner. I think getting the graphics and texts on the device and component in focus so they are legible may be helpful to the viewer of the product.
  11. Is that class 2F your only ship?
  12. Nicely armed wooden fort. I think it is good place for the new recruits to get their feet wet and learn Viking combat.
  13. Welcome to BoBS. Nice little boat.
  14. Oh oh, I hope he has insurance. This is fun like a daily comic strip. Well, almost daily.

  16. Freebuild #1 April 2016 We saw earlier that some of vile pirates were also into whaling, athough they were not very good whalers. http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=124733 When they did catch one, the whale was rendered into oil at the Sea Rats' on-shore whale oil factory. Whale oil uses included oil lamps and soap making, It was an important product before the discovery of petroleum oil. To make whale oil, the whale was cutted into strips of blubber. The strips of blubber were boiled, a process called "trying out" to extract the oil. After the oil has cooled, it was put into barrels and transported to market. It should be noted that the stench of smoked blubber was impossible to eradicate, you could smell the processing crew approaching down wind from a nautical mile away. 17. Good job depicting the results. You could say the L'Olius attacked you like a "hurricane".
  18. LEGO Friends Wheel Bucket Excavator Great Ball Contraption - the Friendly WBE way to move GBC balls It has been a while since I've made a GBC module. This is something fun for the LUG's upcoming event season. I've been sitting on an idea to use those "scoop" pieces in a GBC for a couple of years. The upcoming BWE finally kickstarted my bum to action. It took some trial and error to get them to work. I may have to do more tweaking once it starts going to events. As GBCers know, what works great at home, does not outside the home. Wheel Bucket Excavator GBC by dr_spock_888, on Flickr I still have to make a suitable ball receiving/loading bin. I am not sure the events GBC coordinators will let me use the lid from a take out order of french fries.
  19. It's like an expensive bottle of fine old wine. Open and enjoy it? Keep it corked for future resale? What's your main goal? Enjoyment of building or seeing a sealed set on the shelf? Financial investmet?
  20. They should have instrumented it with strain gauges. Now I'm curious how much force before the bricks start to deformed. I used to get to crush concrete cylinders made from various batches of concrete. It's a lot of fun. Be sure to wear your safety glasses.
  21. I see playing the MRCA like playing the stock market. You can win big or lose it all. Shared ownership would be like mutual funds. There should always be an element of high risk for things to go really bad like a stock market crash. The bigger the investment, the more dividends you can make but at same time the more of your investment you can lose. I think it could be fun to add an element of running aground in relation of the ship's draft if there is going to a simulator. It'll be too much work to physically roll all the different scenarios and matching outcomes to ship characteristics.
  22. Congrats on the new job. Would it be helpful for you to receive an email notice each time a person submits a Free Build form and/or a Ship License form with some of the details like the link to post?
  23. I like the older planes for their small size and nostalgia value. They fit better in a small apartment. I don't mind the molded pieces in the larger planes. They are a fun challenge to find a creative use in other MOCs. If you have the time, money and space, then go for a proper minifig scale like these guys. Untitled by Derek, on Flickr
  24. The BoBS leadership have names for the 3 Sea Rats faction vessels. Poseidon's Revenge The Walrus Fortune's Miskeeper For some reason the names never made it into the public.
  25. Since NPC pirates can't really negotiate, the easy thing might be set the ransom at the license fee is for the class. It would be like licensing a "sister ship" as you will have to pay the same licensing fee for the lost ship. Besides pirates aren't the type who would sell out for less.
