1x1 brackets, why don't they fit at their bottom?
deraven replied to astyanax's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My guess is that it's because of how the bracket may be used in-System. Because it is an upward-facing bracket, it is conceivable that it would be placed on top of a plate or brick in the middle with studs on either side, and the height from the bottom edge of the bracket to the lowest point of the outward-facing stud needs to accommodate the upward-facing stud from the plate or brick under it. Older upward-facing brackets do appear to have the studs centered and so have a collision of approx 0.1mm, so I'm guessing they moved this stud up by about that amount to allow it to "legally" connect flush in that configuration. I don't have any handy to try; if you try it IRL does this bracket still have that issue where the bottom plate of the bracket won't quite sit flush if there's a stud under the side-facing stud of the bracket? -
What a wonderful world you've created! I like the timber sections on the castle, the paths winding between everything, the cathedral, and all the great vegetation. Awesome build! With regard to sharing more photos in the post, the paperclip/upload option on Eurobricks is only for very small images to be used in your signature line, etc., here on the board. For sharing photos of MOCs and whatnot, you'll want to link to your photos from a 3rd party service. Here's a tutorial on linking/embedding Flickr images in your posts: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/97921-flickr-tutorial/

Nice! Those blue flame pieces really work well here for the spilling water, and the darker green for the wet ground is a great touch. Lovely build!

[moc] DM&IR C-10 combination baggage/caboose

Looks great! I must say, just using SNOT plates really does capture the look really well. There's a lot to like with all the details, but one of my favorite little bits is how you simply but effectively replicated the chimney design. Lovely build! -
Welcome to EB, Mike. Glad you found your way out of the dark ages and into Technic! Would be fun to see some of your MOCs sometime. Happy building!

Lovely. It strikes of nice balance between detail and part count. Nice roof design.

[MOC] Castle Beach Fire Department Engine 17

This looks great, especially for a 6(+)-wide design! The compartment and hose bed designs are very well done. -
Welcome to EB, Shuttlefan! Plenty of good conversation to be had here, and looking forward to seeing some of your MOCs. Happy Building!

OK... these are way better than I thought they'd be. Some are basically re-colors of SW sets with a few older elements included so of course they look nice, but the extra details with things like the Blacktron TIE, Ice Planet snowspeeder, and M-tron AT-ST are truly delightful! Great builds!

Welcome to EB, Mick! I hope you can really enjoy embracing the fun of being an AFOL even from the middle of nowhere. At lease these forums are only as far away as your computer! Happy building!

Agreed that the atmosphere is well-done, especially without a ton of extra detail crammed in. It's a good balance. Spotted the rug/hearth in front of the fireplace that looks interesting...

Pretty clever use of those hulls to good effect. A nice alternate that wouldn't have been my first thought for a build from that set!

Hello human person. I am also a real human person, conversing here with other human persons on the planet Aerth. Welcome to you, brittlebrown.

Love it. Great details and features throughout, and NPU on the lower face/"mouth" piece. The equipable components look good as well and add even more fun!

Welcome to EB, scoober boo! Be sure to check out Bricklink for some of those older sets if there are specific ones you're looking for vs just trying to pick up lots on eBay, etc.. Happy building!

Where do you see LEGO in 30-40 years?
deraven replied to HappyAFOL's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm not sure about how much further they can go with the level of detail on minifigs before they stop feeling like Lego, but definitely a little more room to go there (like enhanced printing on the full figure and around the sides, etc., or enhanced dual+ molding). The additional articulation would be interesting to me if it came from new materials and not just trying to add joints or other changes that would detract from the classic minifig look. That is, if the arms and legs (and maybe torso itself) were made of a material that looks and functions the same as it does now, but has some elasticity and memory that would let you do some of the types of gentle bending and posing you see in the newer Lego animation style. Maybe some kind of memory plastic that could easily be returned to the standard shape/position. -
[MOC] Neo Galaxy Explorer - Lego Ideas submission
deraven replied to Tom_Brick's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Wow - all those curves! If feels like Neo-Retro-Classic Space to me, and definitely a fun interpretation of the good ol' CS stuff. The way the wings of the auxiliary craft fit in with the main engines while docked is very nice and echoes the original while still being something new and interesting. Great build!- 7 replies

There is a lot to like here, and one of my favorite subtle details is the different greys you used in the smoke from the chimney. It's great!

Excellent! I like the colors you've worked into the building; subtle but add some nice visual interest. One of my favorited details is the patterned tiles on the steps and balcony. Fancy!

Nice bit of story, and a pretty dynamic build for the size.
