[OL - FB2] Vineyard of Light Restaurant and Terrace
deraven replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a wonderful bustling scene! I like the way you've done the roads, and nice action going on in the kitchen and bar areas. Those Fabuland tables work really well here in this setting. How did you "fill" the wine glasses? Was that just smashing a 1x1 into them in software, or is there a trick that'd work IRL with those? Either way, it does look good here and adds to the complete feel of the scene. -
This is just lovely. I also like the way the book is integrated, and lots of nice details throughout the build. Also very kind of you to have given Cratchit such an easy commute to work! Your color choices are nice as well.

Welcome to EB, Dan! Happy building!

This is great! You've captured the overall look really well, and have all the appropriate interior details included. Simple and effective way you did the hedge fence there as well that works for the look. Nice build!

Astounding. The precision with which you've captured all the detail is fantastic. Your photography completes the job and makes it hard to distinguish between the Lego and the actual vehicle at a level that's not often seen. Spectacular build!

Welcome to EB, Daniel! Hmm... the first set I bought. Not sure about that; I know the first set I was given as a child, but the first on I bought for myself was probably a Blacktron space set. Christmas will be a variety of fun things for the kids, and I think I'm going to get myself the new "UCS" Ecto 1 (if it ever comes back in stock)! Happy building!

Keeping track of parts or buying new ones?
deraven replied to Lira_Bricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Obviously it depends on time constraints, budget, etc., but I usually buy more of what I need (plus extra so I have them on-hand for the next time). If I'm feeling impatient and not too concerned about disassembling the other MOC (or, more accurately, I don't care how long it remains in pieces before I get back to it ) I'll take it from there. I've tried to get a little less hung-up about taking things apart over the last couple years. My thinking has changed to something like, "if it's so precariously built that I might not be able to put it back together, there's probably a better solution that I should investigate." Also, for MOCs that I'm really fond of but have concerns, if I don't have anything on them digitally I'll sometimes make it a project to build them up in Studio as I'm carefully disassembling them (building from the outside, in) so I know I can always get back to it as-built or tweak them later in the computer at which point I'm OK with scrapping the whole thing for parts if needed.- 13 replies

Looks great, and you've captured the look very well! I would maybe add some texturing to the ground outside to make the build feel a bit more complete/polished. This is a nice addition to your series of architectural styles builds.

I feel the same pinch on availability that a lot of others are feeling. I understand some of the supply chain and production challenges are truly not within TLG's ability to control, but I didn't get to take advantage of the Black Friday promotions since literally every larger set I've been waiting to order is "temporarily out of stock" with no backorders accepted. If they're struggling with demand it seems like it would be logical to accept backorders (maybe with a big lead-time window to set expectations properly) so they at least know what they should be producing in the factory queue. I mean, obviously they should have data on that regardless since they know what they're doing with analytics, but it makes me think that their current bottleneck in production is worse than it has been previously if backorders aren't accepted and there's no ETA listed for when those things will be available again.

Welcome to EB, owenbuildslegos! Yes, it's always nice when members share their creations here on Eurobricks! Note, however, that the paperclip/upload option that you'll see when posting on Eurobricks is only for very small images to be used in your signature line or avatar here on the board. For sharing photos of MOCs, etc., you'll want to use a 3rd party service and I think most folks would recommend Flickr, if not using a Lego-focussed image hosting service ( like Bricksafe, etc.) so you'll want to create an account there if you don't have one already so you can share images of your creations here. Here's a tutorial on linking/embedding Flickr images in your posts: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/97921-flickr-tutorial/ -
Welcome to EB, Mogiie! Happy building.

Very nice. A simple but effective take on the creature, and at about the right scale which can be a challenge. Nice!

Welcome to EB, BaalTheBuilder. (Nice name, btw! ) Sounds like you've got a pretty exciting Lego universe going there, and I look forward to seeing how some of those mash-up MOCs come together. Happy building!

Welcome to EB, John! Yes, lots to love in the current Lego lines these days, but the nostalgia and charm the period you're talking about holds a fond place in my heart as well. Happy building! -
Welcome to EB, Nathan! Looking forward to seeing some of your MOCs soon. Happy building!

Lovely setting/vig, and wonderful car! From the trunk at the back to the cupcake hood ornament at the front, it's just great!

[MOC & Instructions] 4554 Central Station Revisited
deraven replied to legolux1973's topic in LEGO Town
Lovely! Nice update of the exterior, but the interior builds especially are great! Thanks for sharing! (and supported June's castle on its own merits, too) -
Quite nice! Looks great over all and you've hit a nice balance between metal and wood components and just the right amount of mechanical elements. I like the collection of junk they have on deck as well. I think semi-organized clutter always looks nice in these kinds of builds. Only other thing: are they sure those spiders can't climb?

Hi Metal91 - welcome to EB! Are you sure you have a legitimate Lego set? I haven't finished building mine yet but so far no issues like that, and if you look at video reviews of the set online it's definitely not anywhere near as delicate as what you're describing. It sounds like you either have a counterfeit set with poor quality bricks, or perhaps somehow the set was exposed to extreme temperatures that were enough to affect the clutch power of the bricks. Definitely not normal.

If 1x4x6 would be a good size and you're using it for a sliding door, I would definitely take a look at 60596 along with 57895 which are both available in a variety of colors. That might work well in this case.

Welcome to EB, Hanas! I think the general question on the panels has been answered, but if you want to give any more detail on what you're trying to do we might be able to find an alternate way to accomplish it. 1x6 or 1x8 tiles connected across brackets at each end, for instance, could work for something similar to a taller version of 4215 depending on exactly how you're trying to use it.

Very cool! From the bottom it kinds looks like a trilobite. Interesting to see those motorcycle parts used for greebling, too.

the green Dragon we never got? a 2010 Kingdoms speculation
deraven replied to HappyAFOL's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow... what an interesting choice for your first post! I did find that quite interesting and enjoy things like this, connecting obscure bits of history and lore. I don't know if I agree with you (since there are other solutions besides just not making a dragon, plus the dragon doesn't need to breath fire at all), but putting those pieces together (pun intended) does make it a pretty interesting theory. -
Welcome to EB, Arnaud! Looking forward to seeing your MOCs in the train forum. Happy building!
