  1. I keep my sets separate in their own ziplock bags from my spare parts. Right now I have the separate parts in PaB containers or in small plastic baggies (like they use for beads). I like to buy the parts for my MOCs and keep those together apart from the sets. Just makes things so much easier for when I want to build something again.
  2. Totally agree. I love them the way they are. The only thing I would like to see more of are printed legs and arms (when necessary of course)
  3. I have the same set up right now. I have about 6 Serelite drawer sections. Right now though my collection requires more drawers as I have been using some of my lego boxes and extra cardboard boxes (from FedEx deliveries) to store other sets. Incidentally Star Wars boxes make for an excellent storage space for the ziplocked bagged sets. I have the drawers separated according to themes. i.e. Fire sets, police and great vehicles etc are stored in their own drawer. I don't think I will ever separate my parts according to colour. To my mind that is too cumbersome for my purposes. What I am trying to do now is catalogue my loose parts so that when I am building projects I don't order excess when I already have it. Already I am beginning to lose track of what I possess. Right now my collection is about 80,000 bricks and rising. From early Space and Lego Castle to Star Wars and City. Whew!
  4. I would like to thank all my fellow AFOLs in this thread who have shared their thoughts or stories. It is quite refreshing to hear and made me chuckle. If it weren't for the on-line community I would be alone in my hobby. I have always loved Lego toys and to me they are practically sacred (I'm a purist ). My parents bought them for me as kid (like most of us) but as an adult my family and friends don't seem to understand the attraction. I don't bother trying to explain to them why. It's something I love and gives me happiness. After reading your comments I feel much more freedom with my choice for remaining out of my dark age.
  5. I totally agree. Now if they could just redesign the website so that it is more user friendly to search for projects. I for one welcome the new rules. I've always been rather traditionalist with my Lego. It is a toy to free the imagination after all so why not just create? Let TLG fuss over production and part creation etc.
  6. I liked building this set. I just received my copy last Friday. There are only two issues I have with it. The glass bulbs on the lamp posts would not fasten together properly at the top. I suspect that the pegs were not carved quite right. The other issue surprised me and that is the axle used to attach the bucket gear to the top technic plate for the stall next to the merry-go-round. Astrid used a tan axle/Technic pin which causes the plate to bow by a millimetre. I realized she should have used one of the red axles instead. (there are 12 in the set). Even though it doesn't 'connect' to the plate it keeps the bucket gear from shifting and does not bow the plate. I was really surprised this subtle flaw was not noticed and put into production. All in all though I do like the set and the amount of mini-figures since this was also my first 'winter set'. I really wish now I had spent the money on the other ones seeing as 3 of them are discontinued...
  7. Really enjoyed this creation Snaillad. Particularly the brick doors. The art deco interior is amazing. Loving everything about it. How long did this creation take to build? Do you destroy your other creations to utilize the bricks or do you build with all new parts?
  8. You know Faefrost, I really liked your thoughts in your last post. I was thinking that the apothecary idea has merit. I could see Lego making a pharmacy on the first floor and a dentists office on the second floor. The Museum idea also is quite feasible. You are correct it could be like a mini version of the New York Library with lion heads.
  9. Maybe a park next to it? The eatery sounds good as well. I was thinking you could use bars for windows around the spot that will have the jail cells to break the wall up from solely bricks. Are you putting in any skylights? I was thinking the criminals will need a mean of escape. To be less drab why not use either a plate or a brick in a different colour stripe? (Similar to the Town Hall 10224) If it were me I would do grey for the concrete at the base/first floor, then blue and white for the second floor. Did you have it designed in LDD or were you free building? As for a new modular building. According to the pattern that has been established, it will be a type of a government building. Question is will they do a police station or a post office? Or something we have yet to think of?
  10. Thanks for that Si-MOC. Wasn't sure what the wristband actually was. I was rather disappointed this year. Last two years I lived near a Lego store which was great for getting the invites and goodies. Where I live now the nearest store is a 2 hour drive and I can't just pop by like I used to. What I would really love to go to again is the 15% off day for AFOLs. Do they even do that in Canada?
  11. I still haven't had my email order confirmation yet and I ordered this morning. However my order does show it is being processed. Website was down for an hour or so but its working again. Guess they got overloaded. Can you imagine the chaos on 'Black Friday'?
  12. Really liked the mensware shop as you have some interesting choices for the facade. The coffee shop looks great. Loving the fact you made these and I get to see them in the flesh instead of just the instructions
  13. Excellent work. Oddly enough that hotel does look familiar...hehe. Really like your interior furnishings and very creative roofing.
  14. Very cool and fits in nicely with the modular buildings
  15. Thanks Kristel! Actually there is suppose to be a sticker with train times and map on the window panel. Correct sir! Thanks Timmy. Also there will be bicycles for the grate near the stair case but I couldn't add them in LDD (to mount on the grate). I've yet to put in the street lights and traffic lights as well. The idea was to place the modular buildings near this bridge.
  16. Hi everyone, So I really loved the design of the Lego bridge from the 2013 Copenhagen show. So I decided to recreate it in LDD from 3 photos I had for reference. (found them on-line) Seeing as how the photos comprised of two versions of the walkways and platforms it took me the weekend to create it without further points of reference. I will likely add more flair to it later but I wanted to share and see how people like it? I am thinking I will recreate the initial overpass bridge in real life when I figure out the cost.
  17. I like this idea. Now I am trying to work it out in my head how to bust the windows in LDD.
  18. Great work Timmy! Actually I had thought about making Market Street and I put together a spreadsheet to estimate the cost of it if I ordered the parts off Pick a Brick. My estimates minus any exclusive part like the white hoses put it about $250 CDN. I was thinking to outright replace the doors for the newer type of doors. Even though it would be nice to have those doors at $20-30 per piece I think I can do without. Unless I get a bargain somewhere.
  19. Love the interior and the effort you have put in. Could I make on recommendation MacGyver? You have used the red clip pieces on the bottom of the exterior of the house to hold the flange pieces. Perhaps you should switch those pieces around with the top ones? (So that it doesn't look like its bending the parts?) All in all a great MOC.
  20. I am loving the new images that were posted of the 2014 sets. However the new Mobile Police Unit 60044 is bumming me out...why couldn't they go with a surveillance van or something that wasn't a total redo of 7288 from 2011? I really liking the gold rims on the motorcycle 60042. The prisoner transport is also nice. Could make use of it as another armoured truck in a pinch. What's with the traffic/street light in 60054? I'm not sure why they combined them other than say price point...personally the light standard looks like an eyesore. I'd likely order a few pieces to separate them.
  21. With those types of temperatures Timmy you should be alright. I would block the holes or drape something over them to stop the dust and dirt from blowing in. Thanks Charles I did not know about that thread either. I live in Canada so the temperatures here can go either from -30 in winter to +32 in the summer. That being said, my Lego mini figures used to travel with me as a kid in the trunk of the car during the winter months which did affect them. I find the rubber of the tires suffers the most during the heat of summer and base plates.
  22. Actually in the final image they are grey ladders rather than this piece. Although one could use this piece to make the platform slide out? Or another type of piece perhaps?
  23. Timmy are those holes in the wall in your panoramic shot? From the look of your photos I am assuming your city is in either a cold room or the basement? If so you may want to cover up those holes in the wall or put up something to insulate the area. Lego bricks do not fare well in the cold as I can attest. (mini figures tend to split underneath the arms and it makes bricks brittle or able to split as well.) I would hate for your hard work and money into your project to be undone by mother nature. Your town is certainly coming along!
  24. After seeing the images I am beginning to wonder if these will be like Lego Creator sets where you can build three in one models or as per the current discussion combine them? Certainly in the case of the Ice cream plane set it looks like you could build an actual ice cream truck.
  25. I agree, but I was trying to figure out how one would make the trailer section without technic parts?
