  1. So I saw this one when it was posted, but never commented on it, and It definitely deserves praise! This is a gorgeous build with gorgeous brickwork and roof work, the trees and snow are very well done, and there are tons of beautiful details. The well is great, and the little coth sacks are a beautiful touch. Amazing build!
  2. I saw this when I was updating the index, and I can't believe I missed it the first time around. This build is simply stunning. The round tower, the staircase, the lake and the rockwork - amazing. Your builds are always top tier, and this is one of your best IMO. Incredible!
  3. I think the "fortress" will depend on the entry. I don't foresee a universal name at this point.
  4. I hear worms escaping from a can...
  5. Sorry to hear of your misfortune NM. It should open some building time for you though... Tights are only worn by the forestmen of Avalonia. The peasants wear hose and the nobles wear leggings. And we only talk about legwear in the Kaliphlin thread - That's where trivialities are discussed. The Avalonian thread is dedicated to more epic topics, like the fate of Revolword..............and daffodills.
  6. I think the Hobbit is doing much better because it was timed with the movie. It fits too, because Unexpected Gathering and Warg Attack are selling like hotcakes (even Goblin City set is selling decently) while Mirkwood Spiders and Barrel Escape are not doing parcticularly well. I think if LotR Legos would have coincided with the original LotR release, they would have sold much better. I'm just happy they are out, and I count each new wave we get as an unexpected gift.
  7. The price point argument makes sense when you look at Chima -all the sets are $15-20 or $35-40 except for one $80 set. I have also thought that LoTR has not been selling well both from what I've heard from store staff as well as how the sets are almost always in stock in huge numbers. It also makes sense that TLG would aim this new castle line at younger kids, since LotR was so AFOL based.
  8. Please feel free to comment on builds you would like to see in existing threads, but do not start threads to request them. This topic is Locked.
  9. There is no longer a pinned MOC index for the Historic builds. You can find the original thread below, but it is not currently being updated. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16637&st=0
  10. To use the term "coining", it implies there is some 'value' to what you're creating
  11. I show Worriz and Lennox cards on my Eagles' Castle review.
  12. Wow. What a difference White balancing makes! Thanks Kai! Thanks for the feedback everyone!
  13. This will be my first review, so please provide plenty of feedback if there's something I've missed or your would like to see in any future reviews I might do. I did not intend to purchase this set in particular, but my Lego Store was out of Equila's Utlra Striker, and I wanted to hit the $75 minimum for the free Ewar polybag. I am very excited about the Wolf, Eagle and Raven Chima minifigures, and Worriz and Ewold were the main reason I picked up this set. I do like the whole presentation of the Chima sets, and the layout in the Lego store itself was rather ornate. The kids on the back box seem to be having an enormous amount of fun - they might be overdoing it just a little bit. Coincidentally, the other 2 sets on the box are the other 2 that I own. The top of the box shows Worriz and Lennox, but does not show the Eagle's name. I could actually not find any reference to his name anywhere in the set, which is weird. The contents of the box were 3 bags of pieces, 2 sealed packs of cards, a few assorted speedorz parts, and two instruction booklets. Lennox and Worriz' cards also have a nice presentation, and look interesting, but I have not learned how to play the game, so sadly I cannot discuss the pros and cons of these characters in a high stakes Speedorz tournament. The instruction booklet does include a short demonstration of how the speedorz scoring would work with this particular set.... and it also includes a legend for the character card itself. I learned none of this. And the instructions also included the standard part inventory pages. On to the building! The contents of the first bag. This bag included all the parts for the minifigures, as well as the Speedorz parts. Other than the figure parts, not too much to get excited about here. The contents of bag 2. This bag contained the majority of the interesting pieces, which were mostly just new colors. The contents of bag 3. These would be the parts of interest from this set. A few standard pieces colored in dark blue and dark azure, as well as 4 of the new wing pieces, a gold Chima gem, and a large white bracing piece. I did not include the 12 trans blue Chima gems, since it looks like you get these in every Chima set. The back of the new white brace piece. Now we move to my favorite part of the set - the minifigures. Woohoo! As I mentioned earlier, all of the minifigure parts were in bag 1, but only Lennox's head was individually bagged. Probably to keep his precious mane looking pretty - Those lions are SOOO superficial. I do love those Eagle wings - such a nice piece! Worriz' cape was included in the cardboard cape box (2 red rubber bands were in the other). Very nice design, and I don't remember seeing this particular cape cut anywhere before. The heads without the headpieces. Worriz and Lennox have pretty nice faces, but Ewald looks like he's either sleeping or drugged. Obviously he could care less who wins this tournament. And here we have everyone with their respective headgear. And here have everyone in their full regalia. All three of these minifigures are beautifully done, and I saw no apparent flaws or misprints with any of them. Worriz is looking pretty pimped in his cape too. At last the two opponents are armed, and they can't wait to get at each other. This emnity must run deep. On to the building. Our speedorz are the first thing we shall build, and the Speedorz-specific parts are shown here. The speedorz are pretty simple to build, and the figures cannot be removed without removing the faceplate, which is held in technic pins. Overall pretty solid, but the propulsion unit on the back of Worriz' Speedor does not work well with his cape, and you have to be careful not to bend or tear it. With the first bag complete, it doesn't really seem like we've gotten too far, but you have to remember that we've already built the minifigures as well as the two Speedorz. With bag 2 complete, the set is starting to take shape, and is looking a lot more promising. At this point we have the core parts of the set complete. Now to finish off the loose ends. The set is now built, and the wings are primed for the Speedorz to shoot for the pillar in the foreground. If the pillar gets hit, the wings spring to the upright position, as shown. And here we have the full layout with all of the figures and vehicles. Viola! Not much for spare parts, the cheese slope, bracket and tooth are kind of nice, but they are pretty common pieces. In Review: Playability: 8/10 - The Eagle's wings spring up very nicely when the Speedor hits the pillar, and this entire mechanism is solid, without being tempermental and some play features can be. The minifigures are also locked into their Speedorz, which keeps them from flying everywhere. They pulled this off very well, so I rated it high despite the lack of any other moving parts or play features. Design: 7/10 - The set works well for it's purpose, and the eagle statue looks solid and well detailed. I am more impressed with the set now that I've built it, but I would not have bought the set if it weren't for the figures. Price: 8/10 - Although I could see this being sold for $35 US, $40 US is a good price for 3 amazing figures and a 369 piece count. Overall: 8/10 - The figures are superb, but this set has a lot less new pieces and recolors than the other Chima sets which is disappointing. I bought this purely for the figures, and that's what I got. I have some high rez pictures of the figures and cards here: Thanks for checking out my review!
  14. What!!? That sucks Z - I was hoping to augment your builds a little better this year, but now I've really got my work cut out for me... I'm going to have recruit more GoHers this year, or maybe get some more of our attendees together in a cooperative build... Hmmm.
  15. I think, given the fact that we are dealing with PJ, nothing can be ruled out completely. He has taken a ton of of "artistic license" with the first Hobbit movie, so I would not be surprised to find new things thrown in to the later movies that do not match the books or chronology. Everything is pure speculation this point.
  16. This a great build. The tower is impressive, and I like the frame work and the sand green as well as the gate itself. Nice work!
  17. I couldn't have said it better myself. I knew exactly what this was as soon as I saw it. This was one of the first castle sets I owned. From the tower to the windows to the battering ram - you have done a superb job!
  18. Nice build! I like how so much is compacted into it. I like the waterfall and the diversity of the trees. I have a ton of red, white and pink flowers from PaB walls, but I've realized I have like 20 blue flowers. total. I'll have to remedy that soon.
  19. This is a wonderful build! The castle is excellent, and I love the way the rocks rise as you move to the back of the castle, and the wall rises with it. The trees are excellent as well - I may need to start borrowing this technique, they look very realistic! Great job!
  20. This is a fantastic MOC! I love the fortress, the buildings in front, the ship, the awnings, the sheep enclosure, and the ton of small details you have included. This is indeed a superb MOC on a scale rarely seen! Amazing work!
  21. This is excellent! I love all the bookshelves and the layout of the library itself. The stained glass windows are great too. Nice work!
  22. I like your concepts here, and I really like what I see for the Rivendell paltforms. Can't wait to see the finished product!
  23. I picked up 4 of them back when TRU was giving away the minifigure packs in November. I was able to Bricklink the 2 minifigure packs for $20 a piece, and it knocked my Uruk-hai's down to $20 a piece! I then found 3 Uruk-hai's at one of my Targets on the 26th for $21 a piece, which I snatched up. I checked 6 more Targets that day, and none of the rest had it on sale (did pick up some Naboo Starfighters at HALF OFF though! ) I know this will be a nice after-market set, but I may want to hold onto them for figs- I'm leaning in that direction right now. I finally opened up one of them yesterday to display the figs, and I can't believe how many great pieces are in that set! It's definitely the best set for the money, probably because there are no main characters in it. K-Marts in my area have always been very hit or miss, usually tending towards miss. Target has been a little more consistent, but TRU has probably been the best, even though I only find LoTR/Hobbit about half of the time. Star Wars is far more consistent at TRU and Target.
  24. I'm thinking there are definite bad guys and good guys, and the Speedorz actually come with vehicles and extra brick built scenery while the spinners just came with the spinner and a couple weapons. The Speedorz are a much better value IMO.
  25. I personally am glad they did not make the oaken shield, since I think they did a horrible job of incorporating it in the movie, and they made it a central item in the movie like Sting and Orcist.
