Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
I have a few of those lime green torsos for Star Wars builds, but they just don't seem "castley" enough for me to use in GoH. -

I always forget about E-bay as a Lego source. Between Bricklink and the Lego store, I'm pretty much set. I don't even check Craigslist right now! (which is has led to some amazing finds in the past) -
I would say that upon seeing final pictures, there are no glaring problems or cause for outrage. While there may be some disappointment in Heraldry or design style, and this is a departure from Kingdoms, these are still sound sets, which are aimed at a younger target audience.

Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ironic, the challenger who says to never challenge... Such words are ill advised and will be long remembered. It seems that Drow are not the only beings that need to be eradicated from Nocturnus. While Nocturnus is well known for it's monsters and undead, the majority of inhabitants are human, I think... -

Lime green can be useful for swamps, but that is more of a nocturnus feature. -
I think the base on a MOC can really make it pop! It is not necessary by any means, but it makes the MOC look more professional IMO. It does seem to be a lot more work than it should be though, from the few builds I've done it with. I have always used base plates, and utilized the big 16 x 8 green bricks for support higher up (roof support for removable layers, or the base at the top of a hollow mountain, etc.). The base Plates have always worked well, burlt now I'm trying to work on more grading with my builds since I think it adds a ton ( Buurli's recent LotR build for example). I recently did my first plate base build similar to what Legonardobhas been doing, and it worked out really well. I will be posting it soon.

Updates get done when they get done. These are taken care when the people who are volunteering their time choose to do it. Once land is claimed, you don't have to have worry about losing it. -
So I'm working on my Challenge VI Entry, and I am trying to create armies for each of the guilds. I have tried to use what I have seen posted in each of the guild forums without using the same unit for multiple guilds. I'm trying to define the different units that you'd see from each guild, and I'd like some feedback on any units that I might be missing, or any changes that people would suggest. Not that I'm necessarily going to listen to you, but I would like to portray the different guilds as they would like to be portrayed. Here goes. Avalonian Units Dragon/Sand Green, Elves, Forestmen... Easy enough. Kaliphlin Units This is the Guild I still need more units for. The figure in orange will have a white turban instead of the black turban, and I am planning to use the Alamhut guards (dk gray helms). I'm not really sold on the scale mail red ninja wrap unit, but I don't really feel that using the ninja torsos would be appropriate. I would like to incorporate the ninja wrap with a unit, but I haven't found a great use yet. Mitgardian Units Vikings and Dwarves fill out these units pretty well. Plus, where there are dwarves, there are often gnomes... Nocturnus Units I can't really afford to buy Bossk heads in mass, so I can't really do the reptilian units. Minotaurs, Dwarves and Orcs will have to do (and I don't have the werewolf heads that Hersbrucker was using, but I may end up buying some). I may also add some zombie units to this guild's forces. Valyrian Units I took some liberties with the new soldier, but I thought he might fit in well with the theme. Obviously, this is a smaller guild and there will be less soldiers. I may add some pirates/sailors in, but that is YTBD. Obviously I don't have any knights or Sigfigs included, and I'm planning to make Sigfigs as you guys have them. Also, there are some larger factions missing, (Falcon, Bull, Old Lion, Leo) that I haven't included with any of these. I don't really see them as an integral part of any guild, even though I know some people do use them. Let me know what you think!

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Golden Minifigure Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to TrumpetKing's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I can't tell you how many hours I've spent sifting through boxes for figs. I've probably spent 2 hours on series 9 alone- and that's been an easy series for me. I'm only looking for figs with big pieces-dress/armor/cyclops- 87 replies

Both fleshie and yellow are supposed to represent the same color, but they don't look good side by side. We have other colored heads for other ethnicities, so I wouldn't say that it's a race comparison is accurate. I WISH they hade made them compatible with yellow so they could represent another ethnicity, but I can't allow them both in my builds. I wouldn't ever use Fleshies if I hadn't been forced into it by Star Wars. -

It has actually worked out well now for me (even though I hate fleshies). I have been forced into fleshies for Star Wars, so now I use fleshies for SW and yellows for Castle - my 2 big Army Builder themes. -

It doesn't matter if you use Yellows or Fleshies. It's your choice. -
This is Collossal! I'm impressed by the sheer size and number of troops! About 550 troops you say? I'll have to scrounge around for minifigs for my army now. I may be able to match that...

Great job on this! The tower is excellent and I love all the character you've given to it. The rockwork, the windows on the tower, the foliage - well done! I especially like the horses leaping the creek. Excellent MOC!

I really love the dragon head! One suggestion - for the teeth along the top, you could use this piece http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4081b if you put the ring in place of the 1x1 round brick, then you could put 1x1 cones on the other end of the ring and have the same teeth along the top and bottom. If you faced the 1x1 plate portion of the piece inward, you wouldn't even see it. Great start!

I like all the activity in the interior, It really adds to the build. I also like the plate work on the ground at the doorway and fence.

As always, a very solid build SK. I like the stream and the snow and the interior. I also do like the stone wall of the building and I'm impressed that you also tiled the interior - Great job! I would love to see the same width for the tiles on the corners, but I don't know if this is doable.

Check out the beginning of the index and look at the scoring for the Challenge builds. I believe the free builds are scored in generally the same way, but I'm not sure if the Guild Leaders have ever laid out a specific X,Y,Z for criteria. The biggest thing is the quality of the build. Are you using new building techniques? Are you incorporating the style of your guild, or the build your MOC is set in? There are also points for story, photo quality, originality and such, but the quality of the build is the biggest factor. As to the posting of free builds, if you post a story thread, you can post individual threads for decent size MOCs, but if you've got 4 little MOCs in your story, or 1 big MOC and a couple little ones, you shouldn't be making individual threads for each MOCs. I believe DeGothia has posted a couple of builds recently in threads, and then he posted a story thread using the 2 MOCs as the setting. He made the thread stand out by using good angles for his shots, so the builds were indeed just the setting, not the focus of the post. Does this help?

I do hope that the Saruman/G-White hairpiece is separate from the beard piece. It looks like it probably is, but I can't be sure. I've waited so long for a white hair piece!
