  1. This is a beautiful MOC with some brilliant techniques! I love the lower walls, the tan panelling, and the water/rocks. The roofing is also well done, as are the palm trees and the foliage. This is superb! You should consider building for Kaliphlin in the Guilds of Historica.
  2. I really like the chimney and the walkway to the door. I too have lots of 1x4 brown tiles from the PaB wall, and they come in SOOO handy. Very nice build!
  3. I use the crownies as the royal guard for the king. They would technically be independent of the smaller factions (this is very unlike the way GoT works). The King is "supposed" to forsake his faction when he assumes the throne, and the royal guards/escort are likewise unaffiliated.
  4. Quite the build you've got going here! I love that there is a full interior, and it is gigantic! Great work!
  5. Great work with your landscaping! I love the use of the red hoods? for the flower, and the use of the cow horns on the plants in the garden. I also really like the ramshackleness of the shack. Excellent work!
  6. I too started with the Black Falcons, Crusaders and Forestmenm, and I think this was one of the best eras, along with the original Dragon Knights. The newest themes have had much better torsos for generic castle characters, but don't seem quite as a good as the originals. The villagers and commoners have gotten better and better with each new iteration though. I would expect another Forestmen remake, but I'm hoping for new non-lion, non-dragon, non-crown factions. I think every new standard (Evil Knight, Evil Dwarf, CMF 9 Knight) is a boon to Castle, and lets us create even more factions.
  7. There are some great techniques in this build! I love the curved wall - this is brilliant! I do like the cobblestones patterns on the sloped road, but I don't know if I like the studs vs no studs above and below. I really like the sand green door, and the roof to your building, as well as the timbers sticking out of the building. Good activity in your build, as usual. Very good build overall! And I DEFINITELY need to start taking more cake breaks myself.
  8. This is Beautiful! I love the stonework on the sides of the building, and the window arches. I also really like the snow on the roof and the uneven walls along the ramparts. The framing with the dk brown on the house is great, and the windows on the back are excellent too. I really like the way the stone comes down along the edges of the build. I love this MOC!
  9. Nice compact build - you've fit a lot into this! I like the use of the CMF bases, and I like the pen for the drakes with all the bones. I disapprove of a bearded Elf, but maybe he's a half elf? And of course, you're detailed story and description are my favorite parts. Well done!
  10. I must say - the pre-Black Friday deals were much better than the actual Black Friday deals - except at the Lego store. TRU had 3 crappy Lego sets on sale, and BOGO on their marked up SW Lego from 8PM-12PM. On Wednesday though, they had $25 off a $100 Lego purchase and a FB coupon for 20% off one item. Picked up 20 Mirkwood Elves on Wed. Target had one POTC ship and one Duplo set at 25% off on Black Friday, but On Wednesday - assorted 10-20% discounts and TIE Fighters at $35 plus a $5 off $50 toy purchase coupon. Picked up 3 TIEs on Wednesday. Walmart had small sales on a few crappy lego sets on Black Friday. I did not visit them the rest of the week. No purchases made at Walmart. The Lego store had a Black Friday event last Saturday for it's biggest VIPs, with a free PaB box and Lego bag just for showing up, 2nd PaB biox with $75 purchase, free $15 Christmas Lego set (with new horse) with $100 purchase, and 10% off purchases of $150 or more. Plus a scratch off at checkout for 10, 20, or 50% off your purchase ( not cumulative with 10% off $150). On actual Black Friday, they had the same deals without the initial giveaways (free PaB box and bag) plus more than 30 sets discounted. Picked up the Joust and Chess set last Saturday. Not a bad week I suppose...
  11. The polybag would be $5.00. I was saying that in my hypothetical costing of the parts, $3.00 would be steal for the dk green hood, torso, dk brown pants and flesh head. The TRU special was only for Tues and Wed, but I'm expecting people would still want these, even at $5.00 per bag/fig.
  12. Kai - I knew you were kidding, and Garmadon - the flesh one is Elrond, and I didn't want to mess with his hands and I wanted to keep the face even though it's flesh. I probably won't use him much in my MOCs because of his fleshiness. He'll only go in LotR builds.
  13. The way I look at it, the hood, torso, dk brown pants and mushroom are worth $1.00 a piece, the goblet, flesh head and bow are worth $0.50 each, and the dk green leaf, quiver, pair of arches and dk brown barrel ae worth $0.25 each with 2 brown slopes, and some other assorted brown and tan pieces come to at least a $7.00 bricklink part value, and those are all parts I would consider buying off bricklink. The figure would be a steal at $3.00. I will keep my eyes out at my TRUs ( sorry but it is a TRU exclusive) and pick some up for you guys if I find any more. BTW: TRU had these on their website for about a day then pulled them. There's a rumor they might give these away with Hobbit purchases?
  14. I'm sorry if a 50 Elf army isn't "huge" enough for you. There may be a 2nd force meeting them at Ondyllion....
  15. I think there are a couple of factors here: 1. Part of the CMF appeal is not knowing what you will get or which figures they will come up with next, and TLG is playing to this. B. The other lines (TMNT, Chima, etc) will sell based off the set and figure design themselves, so releasing images builds up demand. For existing lines (SW) the demand is already there, so it may be more of a bonus for fans. 3. Unlike other lines, the set packaging can be released without giving anything away.
  16. Skaforhire - TRU was my goldmine. I picked up 20 and it was $25 off $100! I prefer the brown hair for my woodland Elves. Abu Dun - perhaps this is a feint and the Elves will instead be bolstering Ondyllion's defenses, or maybe they will be massing there to stage an attack on Victor's forces from there...? It may depend on what shows up for Challenge VI? Kai NRG - I'm sorry but this is completely your fault. I had to accept your challenge. I picked up 30 of the CMF Elves which are goldmines! I use the torsos, legs and capes with the Mirkwood hoods for my rangers, the shields for my Elven Phalanx, and then the bows with the Mirkwood torsos and quivers for my archers. I am saving the tan hairpieces for my high Elves. http://m.flickr.com/photos/29025875@n06/8207691067/Lightbox/ Ecclesiastes - Jealousy is completely right!
  17. I couldn't resist. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76290
  18. Those Ondyllionites have just been asking for it!
  19. It is a beautiful figure. I was considering buying a 2nd copy of the game to sell off on Craigslist just for a spare. Now I'm wishing I had, although the hairpiece is being released in this color, and that was my biggest draw for the fig.
  20. That is a beautiful church! You should build for Nocturnus! I too love the windows and the steeples, and the color combination is great!
  21. Wow! This is Awesome! A beautiful rendition! I love the railings and the snot work on the sides. Excellent MOC!
  22. I was trying to combine the Challenge Build with my character's history/title "Keeper of the Sacred Grove". The Grove is quite a bit larger than the build itself, and the grove itself is not ordered in rows as you would expect a grove of fruit trees to be, but more random, and diverse - hence the multiple different types of trees. The site itself is sacred, hence the construction of the shrine long ago and the planting of the grove, but the Elves view the trees and soil to be more sacred than the shrine itself.
  23. I had a very poor showing since Challenge IV - 0 free builds! I did have a 5th guild entry, but I'm going to have to get down to business now that Challenge V is done! I'm already halfway through my first one.
  24. GoH was exactly what I needed to start building with my overly giant collection. I had been collecting since I got the King's Castle for Christmas in 85, but hadn't built a castle MOC in about 15 years - I was just always collecting to build at a later date. My MOCs had always consisted primarily of castle wall pieces for the base before GoH and I'm kind of sad that I've lost that innocence and can never rely solely on those for castle walls again. I'm very happy with how much my building has improved by being around such great builders, how much more versatile my parts collection is now with all my challenge purchases, and mostly by how many amazing creations have been posted here. GoH is the best thing to happen to Lego since EB (and SW before) IMO.
