  1. So we're getting a remake of Jabba's Sail Barge, and that's it for the summer? And after such a dismal Winter 2013 wave. Rather disappointing year for SW sets. Everything's CW or Prequel except for 2 Jabba sets, the Hoth set (which is actually decent), and another A-Wing... Yep, we definitely need another AT-TE and Gunship! It's been a whole 2 years since we last had them!
  2. This is merely the calm before the storm of MOCs that are about to start showing up.
  3. That is true. The shields themselves do not reflect the intricacies that usually went into crests, and are very simplified.
  4. Oh, did you not notice the Spartan, Legionairre, Highlander, Musketeer, Aztec Warrior, Geisha, Shakespearean Actor... those ARE historically accurate. Lego is what you want to make out of it. If I want my Lego based fantasy to be somewhat realistic from a historical perspective, yet integrate fantasy elements into it, that's my perogative, and Lego provides the means to do it.
  5. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he is. It makes perfect sense, and that would be Awesome!
  6. 1 vote to 2: Wonder Puddle - I love the originality with the characters 1 vote to 9: Captain Nemo - great build for a complex cover 1 vote to 11: Def - Iconic cover of one of my favorite comic books Great entries all!
  7. There are a number of different types of Lego collectors. There are the casual collectors, who may only purchase a few sets each year, and don't consider buying multiples. For this type of collector, they may only pick up more figs from a faction if new sets are released with them. When I was younger, I never even considered buying duplicates of sets, and I would have fallen into this category. There are also the army builders who look at every new set as a potential avenue for new factions, pieces, etc. They see a CMF with a new shield and say "I have a new faction thanks to this one figure!" I definitely fall into this category now as an AFOL. Castle sets now appeal to me more based off the figures and parts included then the set overall. There has definitely been more appeal to the sets lately as Lego has moved more towards high quality sets (Medieval Marketplace, Dwarves Mine, Joust), but it's still the figs that matter the most to me. I would think that the majority of EB'ers would fall more into the army builder category as AFOLs, but that it's probably more of an even split in terms of the consumer base. Personally, I feel that since you can drop $20 on Bricklink to pick up 20 of a shield you want, it is a complete waste to bring back a faction that's already had a run. I'm all for rereleasing old sets like the Black Falcon's fortress was, but a repeat shield is a wasted shield IMO.
  8. I hope that the CMFs popularity might inspire Lego to make new themes along these lines. While dissapointed with the Heroic Knoght's Crown shield, I am glad that it varies from the standard crown. I was excited about the Black Falcon's return in the joust set, but I really want a larger oval version. I agree that a new crest gives more potential for army building and the Deer, Boar, Tree round Dragon and plain round shields have been some of my favorite things to come out of the CMF line.
  9. I love this MOC, as said above, the simplicity works great for this, and I'm really impressed. Nice build!
  10. I love the throwback to classic Castle. Ah... Black Monarch's Castle - one of my favorites! I always loved how they had these scenes in the catalogs. I miss those.
  11. This thread should be reserved for Historicy-related acquisitions. It's not a problem to post additional purchases along with it (just like Boshuda21 did above), but there should be at least one History-related item included. There are other threads for other themes.
  12. Can't wait for you to post your builds!
  13. I did something similar with them: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=76290 I took the shields from the CMFs to equip armored units, took the hoods from the Mirkwood Elves to give to the CMFs, and replaced the CMF bows with the new long swords (Evil Knight) and short swords (Blacksmith). I gave the Mirkwood Elves the CMF werewolf hairpieces instead of the CMF Elf hairpieces. The hooded Elves are at the top of the picture, and a little hard to see.
  14. 1: Ninja sets came out long before CMF was even imagined 2: The crazy scientiest already showed up back in the agents theme in 2008 3: The Elf is more related to the Fantasy theme than the LOTR theme. Dwarves, Orcs.... Elves. 4: There was a Pharoah/Mummy figure back in the Adventurers series of the late 90s. There have really been no direct corellations between the CMFs and later themes except for repeated themes (Ninja, Pharoah's Quest). The only connection I can kiiiiiinda see, is the Monster Fighters, except that there was already a monster theme. The zombie would be the one direct ancestor I can see, but you can probably claim a distant relation to most new themes that come out. I would LOVE to see a Historic theme, but I doubt it will happen. I can only hope for an eventual rennaisance or Colonial Era theme that doesn't focus on castles or pirate ships. (Nothing against Pirates )
  15. I too am working on multiple builds. Need to get a couple of pieces, but I don't want to wait for BL.
  16. I don't think the Forest Maiden is related directly to the Forestmen, nor the Heroic Knight to a new Crown faction. I don't believe the CMFs have ever heralded a new theme to date, but rather the opposite, following on the heels of a previous one (Elf/Evil Dwarf, Man-bat, Mech, Merfolk). New pieces may signal potential alternate uses (Forest Maidens hair) but that's the only forecasting they've done...thus far. I would say that the fantasy theme and the Kingdoms theme were some of the best Castle themes in a long time. Dragons, Dwarves and Trolls were a great addition and the Civilian sets in Kingdoms were great! I was much less thrilled with the Crownies/Skellies and the Knight's Kingdom II before (although KK2 had the best selections of shields in a single castle line, by far!) Lastly, the Firestmen have never been officialy named Robin Hood and his Merry Men, nor has there been a Little John ir Will Scarlet, and I don't see this changing, so we shall never see a Feiar Tuck. A monk or friar would be a great addition though (they did include Tarot cards....)
  17. I look forward to seeing all 25 days!
  18. This MOC is SUPERB! I love all the details. I can definitely see the influence of DC and DG, - Well done! I love the crow cage and the innovative figures as well as all the detailing you've done on this. Magnificent!
  19. I'm in too! Would we want to set a time limit on how long the next person had to complete the build? I know this was an issue with the titles early on, where one person would claim the right to build for a title, and then you wouldn't hear anything from them for a while.
  20. Carlist Riekeen! Woohoo! Been waiting for him for a long time. The new Atgar looks nice too. A nice little set that I will definitely be picking up.
  21. Maybe Historica is a 48 hour day instead of a 24 hour day, that or it's a 730 day year IMO.
  22. Agreed - this is great news! Lego is fun, but real life is more important.
  23. I'm jealous! Last Black Friday weekend score - CMFs at half off at the Lego store.
  24. General LoTR discussion belongs in the LoTR & Hobbit thread. Merged topic
